Fender American Vintage II 1972 Telecaster Thinline Electric Guitar - Aged Natural Reviews

Semi-hollowbody Electric Guitar with Ash Body, Maple Neck, Maple Fingerboard, and 2 Humbucking Pickups - Aged Natural

The Fender American Vintage II 1972 Telecaster Thinline is a hyper-accurate take on the company's first humbucker-equipped electric guitar, which was also the first Tele with six adjustable bridge saddles. The '72 Tele Thinline is built around a lightweight, semi-hollow ash body that yields a bright, sustaining acoustic tone with truckloads of extra resonance. Wide-Range pickups, with authentic CuNiFe magnets, serve up thick humbucker tones with the perfect amount of high-end bite. You'll be blown away by the effortless playability of this guitar's "C"-shaped, hard-rock maple neck and vintage-radius maple fingerboard. The American Vintage II 1972 Tele Thinline boasts plenty period-correct appointments, including knurled flat-top knobs, a 6-saddle hardtail bridge with bent steel saddles, "F"-stamped tuning machines, a 3-bolt neck plate, and a sweet-looking gloss polyurethane finish on the body and neck. The '72 Telecaster Thinline reproduces the quintessential tone and feel of one of the most coveted guitars in Fender's storied history. The American Vintage II 1972 Telecaster Thinline epitomizes Fender electrics in their purest form. So, if you've been eyeing a Tele Thinline, now's the perfect time to take the plunge.

Amazing guitar all around

By Brian Bocchino from PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ on April 15, 2024

I love playing this guitar. The finish is amazing, the frets were smooth and the sounds I'm getting are just what I was looking for. You get that humbucker output while maintaining that fender 'sparkle'
The neck is fast and very playable, but with the vintage 7.25 radius. It's a great mix.
Looks great, sounds great, and scratched that semi hollow itch

Excellent playability and tone

This is one of the best guitars I own. The CuNiFe pickups sound amazing and the fretboard is very comfortable. The whole guitars feels like a big candy. It is very inspiring...

Fender American Vintage II 1972 Telecaster Thinline Electric Guitar

By PHILLIP BUSHE on March 30, 2023

Had my guitar for 3-4 weeks and just changed the strings, it was the easiest change ever, nothing fell off and the quality of the guitar is superb. The feel, look and the playability is simply brilliant, the finish is a beautiful work of art and enjoyable to play! Kudos to Fender I would recommend this guitar to everyone.
When I received my guitar the packaging was perfect and the setup was fantastic.
Thanks to Ben and all the behind the scene staff at Sweetwater, for a job extremally well done
I would recommend Sweetwater and Fender for all my future musical gear!

My First Experience With Fender...and it Was Terrible

By Steve on April 10, 2024

I was really excited to get this guitar. It looks stunning...the reviews were mostly stellar...and it sounded great in the YouTube videos I watched. Unfortunately, my excitement ended quickly once I received this guitar and started playing it. First off, the guitar would not stay in tune even after playing it for several hours. The intonation was also terrible. I did some research and many people suggest changing the stock saddles for higher-end ones by Graph Tech. I did this...and then I also changed the tuners to Kluson locking tuners. I did my best to get it intonated...still didn't play well. I adjusted the action and the pickups as well...still no luck.

I decided it would be best to take this to a professional guitar tech...because that would at least ensure it's 100% set up as best as possible. Well, I did this...and when I got it back...it STILL won't tune properly and the intonation is just off. I have many other electric guitars from Gibson, Rickenbacker, PRS, and Guild...and every single one of them stays in tune perfectly and has excellent intonation. One of my PRS guitars is $600 and Made in Korea (for reference). I expected a lot more in terms of quality for a guitar costing this much that is also made in America.

Sadly, I had no choice but to return this guitar. I can't justify keeping an expensive guitar that doesn't play well. Maybe I just got really unlucky and got a lemon from the factory?! I guess I will never know. It's really unfortunate, too...because the guitar itself is absolutely stunning in this aged natural finish. I loved looking at it...I just hated playing it...and a guitar is meant to be played and enjoyed. I wanted to share my honest experience in case it helps anyone else out in the future.
