Fender American Performer Telecaster Hum - 3-Color Sunburst with Maple Fingerboard Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar with Alder Body, Maple Neck, Maple Fingerboard, 1 Single-coil Pickup, and 1 Humbucking Pickup - 3-tone Sunburst

An American-made Tele at an unbeatable price — that’s exactly what you get with the Fender American Performer Telecaster. Experience balanced tone and extreme comfort, courtesy of a lightweight alder body, maple modern C-shaped neck, and easy-playing 9.5"-radius maple fingerboard. Heat things up with an awe-inspiring combination of vintage-tinged sonics and modern output, thanks to a Yosemite single-coil bridge pickup and DoubleTap neck humbucker. On top of that, a push-pull coil tap accesses a whole universe of tonal textures, while Fender’s Greasebucket tone control keeps things from getting muddy. The American Performer Tele includes ClassicGear tuners for rock-solid intonation.

Versatile Tele Workhorse

By Nathan Pierce from COLLINSVILLE, IL on February 7, 2024 Music Background: Intermediate amateur, playing 29 years.

This axe has fantastic classic Telecaster tone with the added humbucker to fatten things up when needed. It's like having two guitars in one. The Yosemite pickups add a modern hotness to the tone that I love. The push/pull pot will give you the classic single coil neck tone, so no worries about missing out on that. The satin finished maple neck is fast, ultra playable, and feels great in my hands. I wasn't sure if I'd like the vintage tuners, but they look and work great (although re-stringing is sometimes a chore). Because I like playing a lot of open chords, I did replace the 3 barrel bridge with a modern 6 saddle one to help with intonation. But I can't think of a style of music that this guitar won't shine in. It'll do twang, it'll do warm, hard rock, blues, pop, even metal. I'm really pleased with the quality of this guitar.

Love the humbucker

By Joel from California on May 6, 2020

So glad I picked this tele. I play a lot of blues, and the humbucker makes for some fat clean tones. Love the jumbo frets for bends. The sunburst finish and 70s style headstock give this guitar a cool vintage vibe without getting into reliced territory. The maple fingerboard plays great, but is a bit on the pale side so keep that in mind if it matters to you.

Nice Guitar

Fender is producing some nice product.

Couldn't be happier

This guitar fits like a glove. I love the shape of the neck and the satin finish on the back. I wasn't too sure about the Humbucker in the neck but now that I've had some time to play with it I made the right choice. When you split it you get the single coil tone you've come to expect from a Tele. Great guitar!

Great tone

By Mike from Michigan on May 26, 2019

This is a great guitar that is very versatile. I love the neck humbucker sounds but it also can get very close to a traditional single coil sound when the tone pot is pulled out. The bridge pickup sounds like a tele should and the neck is fast and easy to play with the jumbo frets.

the Tele I've always wanted

One of a Kind Tele

By TucsonGuitarGuy from Tucson on January 27, 2020 Music Background: 50 plus years, non professional, cover bands, jamming

I've played for over 50 years, always had telecasters along with other guitars. In my effort to trim my personal inventory down I wanted the "one" telecaster. This one hits the mark perfectly for my preference (abergine color, rosewood fretboard, humbucker PU, coil tap feature). I ordered it with fender deluxe molded strat/tele case ($199) that fits like a glove. It came pretty well set up, action was a little high and intonation off a little on a couple of strings but those are just nits to be picked, all in all playable right out of the box. I think the price is right, the product is fantastic and this will be the "one" guitar for me from this point forward. Oh yeah, the tone is perfect, classic tele with the extra depth of humbucker, especially with a touch of "blues" distortion - righteous.
