Rich Tele legacy, infused with modern refinements

By MICHAEL from HOLMEN, WI on January 22, 2024

I've had the Am Pro II Telecaster for several months now with absolutely no regrets. I didn't need to touch the initial setup, as Sweetwater did a great job. The modern refinements along with the V-Mod II pickups deliver the quintessential Tele twang with impressive articulation that would be expected from a vintage Telecaster. The "Greasebucket" mode adds to a warmer, rounder tone, push the pot all the way for a raw, vintage vibe. The Deep "C" neck profile fits snugly in my hand, and the satin finish allows for speedy runs. I don't know if these are stainless frets or not, but I am impressed with the quality and with the precision of the build. I got a keeper!

I am playing it through a Fender Blues Jr., and recently got the Fender Tone Master Pro. It is simply amazing.

My First Telecaster

By Chad from SLC on June 15, 2022

I love this guitar. It's beautiful, feels nice in my hands and it sounds great. I'm already playing way more than I was before. And thanks to Paul for the great service. I look forward to doing more business with Paul and Sweetwater over the years.

This covers all tones - Strat, Les Paul, Es-335, even Metal

By CG from Dallas on April 7, 2022 Music Background: Expert guitarist - 40 years

I am a believer - single coils can blow away a humbucker if wound right, with the right magnets, and the right hardware and tone wood. I have owned every mainstream guitar and this tele is my new gigging monster. I can not believe the bridge pickup it growls with amazing sonic balance. I was able to dial in The Cult's booming chords, the Stones Start Me Up, Mike Campbell's perfect Petty tone, even Van Halen, Metallica, and Jet's tone. The Middle pickup is beat in series if you want full humbuckers tones like Lenny Kravitz, the Bridge tones mirror SRV - I mean nail them even better than my strat. I am in love with this guitar. The neck is absolutely butter, bending notes in the upper neck is effortless with the radius and extra reach is easy with the contoured heel. The weight is spot on 8 lbs, which is perfect and it balances well on a strap. Again, the tones I am getting are bringing my tone alive for Classic Rock, Blues, Country and Southern Rock., I have a PRS, Les Paul, Es-335 and a Strat and some custom guitars, but this guitar is WAY more utilitarian and effective. The Olympic White color is drop dead gorgeous and relic-y with creamy overtones. The Rosewood neck feels right to me but the neck did have a bit of fret sprout but c'mon it's a tele neck with rounded edges, some fret sprout is going to be present. The case is lightweight, molded and has very thick furry felt. Very happy with this guitar and so glad I didn't settle for a MIM. If you ever doubted a tele as being to tele sounding, this guitar solves that issue. Buy one!!

Am Pro II Tele

My first impression has not changed. I have had this guitar for a couple of weeks now and still impressed. The neck feels perfect. Frets and neck finish are good. Overall weight is good. The V-Mod pickups sound good clean and with heavy gain. It is a keeper.

It's a great tele!

By David from Indiana on November 17, 2021

After spending forever looking at different telecaster models, I finally pulled the trigger and decided to give the pro ii a shot. It arrived in two days. The first thing I noticed when I picked it up and strummed it was how amazing the neck felt: the satin finish and deep c (compared to a more glossy modern c neck on my other guitar) felt like a dream. It resonates very well and the pickups give you the tele sounds you probably already love if you're looking to pick one up. I haven't quite found a use for the push-push control on the tone knob, but that's a feature I can play around with. Worst case scenario I just don't use it in the alt position. It's a great guitar anyway. For aesthetics I swapped the pickguard with a mint one and I think it looks amazing.

Sweetwater did a great job on the setup! The action was low but reasonable and it was intonated very well. Thanks for making this one easy!

Oh Wow!

I made the trip to Sweetwater today intending to play all rosewood necked Tele's in the store. This was one I asked them to set aside as the drive was long and two of the three in the store had sold; ironically this very guitar was my "pick" of the three.

I played this through a Fender Blues Jr amp and immediately made my decision. This guitar sounds and feels perfect. It's going to be a studio guitar and I plan to record with it all day tomorrow. Oh and I bought the amp too.

Staff was amazing and every person working there was helpful!

First Impression: A Great Telecaster!

By JC from NC on February 14, 2021 Music Background: Guitar 'Piddler'

First, you need to know that this is a '1st Impression Review'. I've only had my Tele for one day and have only played it for one hour so keep this in mind. I have a 1991 made 52' Telecaster Reissue that I love. I also have a new American Professional II Stratocaster that I just received from Sweetwater as well. I wanted something a little different in this purchase. That's why I chose a Rosewood Fretboard and the Olympic White. I always associate Maple Fretboards with Tele's and they are great. The Rosewood FB on this guitar is really good. It played well with no adjustment at all. The Olympic White paint cannot be appreciated by the pictures on the website. It's more of a creamy, off-white and has a slight 'antiquish' look to it right out of the box. I can imagine that it will only look and play better as the years go by. The sound of the Pickups are very 'Tele-like' and the 'push-pull' feature on the tone knob for the middle position is very different for me. I haven't really formed an opinion about it at this point. It's there and I might use it in the future but if I don't then, that's fine too. Sweetwater really delivers on their gear. I got a great deal on a new guitar with fast shipping (I had it in 48 hours from hanging up the phone).

Great Telecaster

By Gus from Phoenix, AZ on December 30, 2021

I recently picked up an American Pro II and an older American Pro telecaster.

The Pro II has a lot of features that modern players will enjoy. The neck profile of the Pro II is slightly wider than the original Pro, alleviating issues like bending the high or low E strings off of the neck. The pickups on the Pro II also sound fuller and not as focused on the highs. Bridge position is aggressive but not shrill. Neck pickup is smooth and full-bodied. The cut at the back of the heel makes playing in the higher registry easier too, another bonus for lead players.

Taking off the pickguard reveals some interesting things. First, you can see the wire used for grounding the pickups, which helps out with a lot of feedback issues on older teles. Second, the body is pre-routed for easy modifications (I LOVE THIS).

As far as what I don't like... the push/push knob is supposed to change the tone in the mid position. It does thicken it up a bit, but it's pretty subtle and it seems like such an unnecessary feature when the pickups already sound fuller. The wider neck accommodates lead players, but it feels a bit rough on the hand when trying barred chords compared to the thinner neck from the original AM Pro.
