TaylorSense

By Ruben Niesvizky on March 19, 2024

I was afraid or self installing it, did not want to mess it up. comes with clear instructions and Sweetwater as well as Taylor offer support in case you needed,. it was easy to install. I would recommend this gadget 100%, very helpful to understand the state of your instrument. the app is self explanatory and gives you the hourly pulse of your Taylor temperature, activity and humidity. great product.

Mike Sopper is such a wonderful Sales Engineer - always responsive and available, knowledgeable, caring for my needs, always in a great disposition.

Works well, easy to install, very good value

By Mark from St. Louis on February 15, 2024 Music Background: 66 years old, playing about 2 years, intermediate level rhythm player. Some live performance (I’m a long-time professional harmonica player & the band is working me in some on rhythm guitar).

I installed this on both a Taylor 214ce and a Taylor GS Mini-e Koa Plus. It is not hard to install and then setup/sync on the iPhone app. Takes the guess work out of wondering if the guitars are at proper humidity levels and have adequate remaining battery life. The app provides alerts on humidity levels and battery life so you can address it before there's problems. During winter when we're running our heating system I use the D'Addario GHP Acoustic Guitar Humidifier and store the guitars in their cases which works great. I can tell when the humidity level drops a few percentage points that it's time to re-moisten the sponge (about 10-14 days between). The 214ce is in the Taylor softshell case and the humidity level is always about 44-45% which is less than the GS mini which is in a very nice hardshell SKB travel case and stays at about 51-53%. I would use the "impact incidents" alerts if I were traveling with either guitar, but I leave that alert off otherwise because it uses more battery life.

Great device

I love that I can monitor the health of my guitar. Easy to install, se up and use!

SO much better than other hygrometers...

By Steve Wilhoff from New Haven, IN. on April 13, 2023 Music Background: 40+ years on guitar

I've been using the TaylorSense on two Taylors I have (a 214ce-K and a K24ce). I switched from the D'addario Humiditrak.
I used the Boveda packets with the D'addarios and could never get a reading higher than 40%, even with 4 packets in each case.
I even the Boveda packets out with the D'addario GHP Humidifier, but still...no increase.
The humidity reading on the home hygrometer showed a level between 49-52%.
Once I switched to the TaylorSense, I had consistent readings of 49-52%. Locked in the case, I can maintain that level with
the GHP humidifiers.
I placed the D'Addario Humiditraks back in the Taylor cases and left them there. I'm STILL receiving readings on both of them,
each showing 41%. Obviously, there's a problem with D'Addario.
Also...I NEVER received an impact alert with the D'Addarios, not once, and I move these guitars from the house to the car
to church or other venue 1-2 times a week. The TaylorSense chastises me every time I fail to treat the guitar like a newborn
infant.
The battery indicator is a huge bonus for me. I check it via the phone app before a gig and never have to worry about
replacing a battery at the last minute.
Installation was very simple with help from Taylor's instructional installation video.
I'd recommend the system to anyone who owns a Taylor.
BTW...for the money, go with the D'Addario GHP instead of Boveda packets. They're too darned expensive. :)

Well Worth the Money

By Todd Cowdrey from CINCINNATI, OH on February 22, 2023

This just hands down beats the living daylights out of having a hygrometer rattling around in the case. Period.
If you have a compatible Taylor buy it.
Takes less than 10 minutes to install.

Peace of Mind

By Roger Graham from Cedar Rapids, IA on February 17, 2023 Music Background: Guitar, Bass, and Keys. Home Studio

Perfect addition to protect your investment. App works great, the Bluetooth has awesome range. The Humidity seems to be close to accurate, but with a safe range of 40-60% if you maintain 50% you'll be fine. Temperature is spot on. Good Price for all that it does. Easy to install and set-up.

5 Stars, Although I do think that this should be standard equipment on All Taylor Acoustic\Electric Guitar.

Convenience and peace of mind

By Sweetwater Customer from Morgantown, WV on December 28, 2022 Music Background: Hobbyist musician; piano, guitar, flute, bagpipes, composing, songwriting. Into jazz guitar.

Monitoring the humidity without having to open the guitar case is very convenient. I don't play the guitar everyday, (I rotate through my guitars), but I like knowing it's humidity so I can take action if needed (eg wet the sponge in the humitar). The app was easy to setup and pairing my phone with the system was very straightforward.

TaylorSense battery box & app

By David from Missouri on December 13, 2022 Music Background: later in life beginner

I got this for my 214CE. It works great. It's really nice to know what the humidity is inside of your guitar. I turned off the impact sensor part because it tends to drain the battery quicker, but the guitar stays at home and doesn't travel.

Great product!

By Sweetwater Customer on September 21, 2022

What a great upgrade for my Taylor acoustic! Install was easy and it takes the guesswork out of the humidity, battery life, and temperature of the guitar.

Great Product

By Mike Kusenko from Pittsburgh on September 13, 2022 Music Background: Guitarist for nearly 40 years

This takes the guess work out of your humidity level and battery life. Was an easy install into my Taylor 324CE Builders Edition. I don't have to wonder if the humidity is correct in the guitar now!

Great little device

Easy to install. Setup and app are user friendly. Works well with both my apple and android devices.

Great peace of mind

By John Schneider on April 11, 2022 Music Background: Professional performer

Works as designed. Installation was easy. The app is very intuitive and straightforward. Although it is a bit pricey, it gives you peace of mind knowing your instrument is safe, properly climate-controlled, and your battery status is known before it dies in the middle of a performance.

Peace of mind for my 816ce Builders Edition which no small investment . Easy install, set it and forget it with 2-way humidity packs.

Works as described

By John ;-) from Copley, OH on November 22, 2021

Following the step by step instructions, it is easy to install and functions perfectly. You have to be in bluetooth range to receive data. Nice to have the data readily available. No guesswork. ;-)

Great to have all this information!

By Robert Huber from Buellton, CA on October 16, 2021 Music Background: Professional

I really like knowing if my battery is good. My guitar went dead a few times at a gig and its very frustrating. I have the ES-2 system and installation was super easy and fast. Cool product!

The TaylorSense Hygrometer Works Great

By Brad from Lakewood, Colorado on July 8, 2021 Music Background: Fingerstyle Ragtime and Blues player, recreational player

The TaylorSense hygrometer works great. I have five TaylorSense devices installed and use the App to observe the humidity of my guitars daily when I'm home. The TaylorSense monitors humidity, temperature, battery life and impacts (accidental drops) to your guitar. Be sure to watch the online video's provided by Taylor before starting your first installation. Three videos exist. The first goes through a lengthy discussion on whether the TaylorSense will work in your Taylor Guitar. The 2nd video shows how to install the TaylorSense device. The TaylorSense replaces the original battery box found in your Taylor guitar. The battery box is located on the end of the guitar where the strap button is located. The 3rd video shows steps on downloading the TaylorSense App to your smartphone and linking your phone via Bluetooth to your new TaylorSense device. The TaylorSense Mobile App is compatible with most IOS and Android mobile devices.

If you are a DIY type of person, after watching the installation video the installation is relatively straight forward. The trickiest part is providing slack in the cable from existing battery box to the Expression System preamp. This requires the installer to reach through sound hole of the guitar and opening a cable restraint tab located on the top edge of the guitar. Doing this provides enough slack in the cable so when you remove the existing battery box to connect the new TaylorSense device you can pull the electrical wire/connection point outside the guitar. After the TaylorSense device is connected and reinstalled in the bottom of the guitar, it is necessary to reach back into the sound hole and place the cable back into its restraint and close the tab. This secures the cable and eliminates any rattles of the cable. If all of this sounds too complicated, you can search out and find an authorized Taylor service technician to do your installion.

One thing I learned after installing my TaylorSense devices is that I've been over humidifying my guitars. In my home I have a swamp cooler for evaporative cooling. I didn't realize how much a swamp cooler increases the humidity inside my home. Living in a dry climate like Colorado I just assumed I needed to have a moist dampit in all of my guitars. I would always keep the guitars in their cases when not use as recommended with a moist dampit. The swamp cooler was providing 50% humidity to the room where my guitars were stored and I didn't need the moist dampit in the cases. I will be watching in the fall when the furnace starts running and the swamp cooler is off on when I should start using the dampit's again.

There weren't any surprises with the TaylorSense hygrometer. Everything worked as advertised. Inside the box there are plenty of website and telephone numbers if you need help. Go slow and read all of the information provided. I called Taylor Customer Service and found out the number of guitars you can use on the App is unlimited.

I recommend the TaylorSense hygrometer and App. You'll have to judge on your own whether or not to install the device yourself. If you are a DIY type, go for it. If not see your local Taylor technician. Either way, you'll love knowing that you are taking proper care of your treasured Taylor guitar and keeping the humidity in the sweet spot between 40% and 60% relative Humidity (50% is ideal).

Better than a a case hygrometer

By Tom R. from Virginia, U.S.A. on March 15, 2021

I put it in my Taylor 814ce DLX. With a hygrometer in the case I waited to see how it would work. My case hygrometer showed 50% RH but the taylorsense showed 58% RH. Something wasn't right. So I put my case hygrometer (it's small) down into the guitar. After a bit I checked and it showed 56% RH. I guess the difference was being near the sound hole and there is a variance in these devices. Pulled the hygrometer out and put it back into the case. It fell to 50% RH again. I wouldn't have suspected that much of a difference. But I'm convinced that I'll have a more accurate reading of what the guitar is actually at with the taylorsense readings since it's measuring inside the guitar itself. It was simple to install. I'm going to order another one for another Taylor of mine. The bluetooth range is what I would expect and it seems to have a low drain on the battery.

Great features, not great accuracy

By Joe Marri from HONOLULU, HI on February 6, 2024

Mine seemed to always read just over 60% and therefore the app was giving me warning messages. I ran some calibration tests and found the accuracy was poor. I tried working through Taylor but they sent me to a third party who never responded, so I ended up returning the unit. Too bad.

Works most of the time

By David from Missouri on January 16, 2024 Music Background: Beginner

Humidity on this seems higher than it should be. Seems to stop logging temp and humidity and then starting back up a few hours later. This happens occasionally whether I am out of the house or sitting right next to the guitar.

TaylorSense battery box failure

By Neil Russell from Salt Lake City, UT on January 10, 2024

This is a cool concept, knowing the humidity and temperature of my guitar. For two years it worked perfectly. 25 months after purchase ( 1 month after the warranty expired ) the Bluetooth unit failed. I guess I'll put the original battery box back in next time I change strings.

It's not accurate

By Russ from WA on October 12, 2022

I've had this and several other hygrometers for over a year. The Taylor sense consistently reads too high. I tried to get help, got sent to the software developer: no help.

Inaccurate humidity reading

By Sweetwater Customer on April 1, 2024

Arrived quickly, installed easily. Unfortunately it seems to be reading way off on the humidity reading. Which is why I got it. Reads 62% no matter what. In a case with desiccant that isn't changing color. And a different hygrometer is reading 43% which makes sense with the desiccant behavior. Working with the tech company. Will update if it ever works.

Beware: The app is not compatible

By Brian from US on January 11, 2024

I initially liked the TaylorSense device, particularly for monitoring humidity and battery levels. The unfortunate thing is that the app needed for monitoring has been quirky. I have been in touch with Taylor and the company that developed the app and they have been of little help. At this point the app does not work at all with my Pixel phone. The app company said they were aware and would fix it, but that was well over a month ago. They have not responded to my recent emails and Taylor has not responded to my request for a refund. At this point the TaylorSense device is of no value...I can't recommend it.

Did not make it through warranty period before failing

By mark lloyd from Stephens City, VA on February 20, 2024

Worked for a while then just stopped connecting to app.
Despite being under warranty, no replacement was offered when i contacted Sweetwater.
Rather than waste my time with 'debug scripts' or trying to get taylor to send a replacement, I simply reinstalled the factory battery box. I am now using a small govee bluetooth hygro tucked in the case. IT eats batteries but at least it works. I doubt i'll bother trying the Taylor Sense again.

Keep a supply of 9v batteries - you’ll need ‘em

By Sweetwater Customer on January 2, 2024

I sent my 12-string back to Taylor to upgrade to the ES-2 pickup system. They called me to recommend the new (at the time) Taylorsense and did I want to get that installed too. Sounded like a good idea so I said ok. I wish I hadn't. I don't play my 12-string a lot; it might sit in the case for a couple of months sometimes, and when I get it out, the battery is always nearly or completely dead. This thing is always on and using battery power. Also, I find I don't really look at the status anyway, so it was a waste. This thing might make sense if you are a traveling gigging musician and your guitar is subject to potential rough handling and environments, but if you are just a hobbyist, it's not worth it. I have taken to just popping the battery out now when I put the guitar away.

Very Poor Design - Useless

By Sweetwater Customer on November 30, 2023

The design of the system is terrible. It does not provide push notifications. You have to open the app for it to sync with your TaylorSense device. Only then will you be alerted to humidity or temp being out of range. This is a marketing gimmick. You're better off getting a hydrometer.

Bluetooth doesn't stay connected

By Socal Buckeye from THE 805 on October 4, 2023 Music Background: 20+ years of guitar playing

I have two Govee hygrometer/thermometers that I use. One in the guitar case for my Taylor 324ce, the other in the room in which all my guitars reside, and both perform flawlessly after nearly two years. I just installed the TaylorSense. It took less than five minutes to install. App download and setup also took less than five minutes. The TaylorSense operates great - until I place the guitar back in the studio. Then the Bluetooth disconnects once I walk down the hallway and go into the living room.

Overall, it's not worth the price. For the record, the temperature and humidity readings between TaylorSense and Govee are within .01 of each other. Save your money for a quality Taylor guitar, but pass on this cash grab. I'm considering a return because I'm not going keep my Taylor within ten feet of me everywhere I go in my house, lol. 10 feet seems to be the range on this product.
