On top of its tone-shaping controls, you can alter the tone of the EarthQuaker Devices Talons overdrive just based on what type of power supply you use. With a standard 9-volt power supply or battery, EarthQuaker Devices describes the sound as a "warmer, amp-like tone." With an 18-volt power supply, you get more clean headroom and a slightly "tighter" sound. Vintage tone hounds will probably prefer the 9-volt sound, and players seeking a more modern sound may prefer an 18-volt power supply.
