great tuner ................

By Brett from Humboldt County California
Music Background: been playing guitar since the dinosaurs roamed the earth ...........

I've heard this is a Boss circuit repurposed as a Behringer. I have one already. Getting another for a new pedal board I'm putting together.

Great Tuner

By Brett from Humboldt County California
Music Background: Have played guitar for years

I have one on my pedal board. Yeah it's plastic housing, but works great. Same circuit as the Boss tuner. Getting another one for a new board I'm building. Do yourself a favor and get one and stay in tune!!!

It burns up batteries LOL. This pedal works AWESOME.

Don't use batteries with it. Get a power supply. Nuff said.

Works fine

By Sweetwater Customer

I'm teaching my grandson how to play and work on guitars. I got him a starter guitar (Epi SG Tribute). I set him up an amp rig and got him this tuner. When he comes to my place I have two amps and plenty of cords. All he has to bring is his guitar and the tuner. I don't mess with using a battery. We just use a wall wart and it's all good. It does what it's meant to do. I think people that give it bad ratings are basing their expectations on something else.

Mostly functional

By Mike from New Jersey

It's cheap, and for good reason. The battery compartment is difficult to open and the 9V in is in a awkward spot. The response time is slow. The small dot indicating a sharp is hard to see. When trying to tune anything below about B1 it takes forever to register the note, if it ever does; I need to use the 12th fret harmonic to tune my 8 string guitar and my bass.

The Tuner I didn't know I needed.

By Sweetwater Customer

A fellow musician had an old version of a chromatic tuner with pedal that I could not find anywhere because it was discontinued. Upon finding the BEhringer TU300, it was the exact same one, just a different brand. It performs exactly how I need it to, allowing me to tune silently, then switch over to rock and roll. Great product.

A Mixed Review About the Behringer TU300 Chromatic Tuner

By James R. from Florida
Music Background: 35-year professional guitarist.

To be honest, I have very mixed thoughts about this tuner. While the tuner has the potential to function accurately (and does, under the right conditions), there are a few issues that may have influenced my purchase had I known in advance.

Firstly, although it is designed to work with either a 9V battery or 9V power supply, the battery option is quite impractical. Not only is the battery compartment a nuisance to open, even a brand new Energizer battery lasts but one day. (I tired a new Duracell the following day, with the same results.) Secondly, when using a 9V power supply, the unit will not shut off completely. That being the case, I have to unplug it after each use.

No, I didn't pay a fortune for this unit, but the inconveniences are a bit too much.

Inexpensive Great Quality

By Donny W. from Longmont, CO
Music Background: 50 years performing Blues, Classic Rock and Worship.

What can I say? It's a Behringer! I've never been disappointed with anything I've ever purchased from this brand. From mixing consoles to microphones to effects to this tuner. Always no frills, fully functional quality. This tuner is no different. Easy to read in low light, and very accurate. I love the fact it mutes while tuning, but have noticed I have to turn the guitar volume up for it to register, then turn back down before unmuting. No big deal for half the price of other units. Very happy with this puchase and my sales engineer Drake. Thank you!

Inaccurate

By Gabriel V. from WINDERMERE, FL

I have tested this against regular clip on tuners and against songs I know to be in standard tuning, and this tuner is incorrect in its tuning. It makes you go about a 1/4 off what is actually correct. There are plenty of clip on tuners that are cheaper and better. Don't waste your time and money on this. It's not even worth the small amount of money that you will spend on it.

Cheap but effective

By Brandon from Tennessee

Behringer makes great pedals and this tuner works well and inexpensive compared to others but for the price they are great!!! Sure the housing is plastic but if you're stomping your pedals hard enough to break them that's on you. Just a gentle tap will do. Has worked well for me for years.

Look Into It

By Sweetwater Customer

The price is what lead me to purchase. I only briefly looked into the product. It'll do the job, but it is made of plastic, so whether it stands up over time remains to be seen. Also, the battery compartment is cumbersome to access and I'm curious how long that aspect will stand up. All that said, the price is a third(or less) of the major names I'd have gone for if budget wasn't an issue. Though I've only had it a couple months, I'd still most likely recommend it.

Buzz

It took me a week to figure out that there was a buzz coming from this tuning pedal no matter what external power source are used. The only way to remove the buzz is to use a battery and it eats batteries.

not good for bass

By Sweetwater Customer

had this tuner for a while and it won't pick up the low B on a 5-string bass- I'll tune with the natural harmonic and it still doesn't work great on that string. sometimes it struggles with the E as well. If you're using a 5 string or drop tuning I don't recommend it.

Great product at a great price.

By Brenden B. from LOS ANGELES, CA

I have come to learn over many years of touring that paying a high cost for certain gear is not always the best battle plan. I have also learned that Behringer makes products that do a good job and hold up well. Their pedals that emulate sought after, venerable high end pedals work very well and at less than half the cost!
If you play out often then $ plus dollar pedal may just as well stay in the studio and the behringer can make the trips to the venue.

April 26, 2023

Works but wouldn't buy it again

By Abuelo D. from Central Indiana

The pedal housing is made of plastic, which was surprising. The enclosed "instructions" are not very helpful; they make reference to operation modes that are not explained unless you download the PDF of the user manual from the Behringer website. The enclosed instructions explain what's on the pedal but not why or how you would want to change from one setting or model to another.

Decent Tuner for the Price

By Sweetwater Customer

I was interested in trying out the behringer pedals as they have a lot of options for an affordable price tag. I can see why, as there are several areas where they cut corners to reduce cost. It doesn't have a true push-push switch like higher end pedals, just a push button on a spring - probably will reduce life expectancy. The battery housing (I couldn't find one at first) is in a weird place - under the switch itself - and requires tools to open - concerning as reviews state the battery life is not great on this. There is no power switch, rather it automatically turns on when a cable is inserted to the input jack - not a design I'm a fan of.
Now on to the actually function: tuning. The tuner is not near as sensitive as I would like, requiring a firm, sustained note to get a reading. The range is limited; don't get this if you need to tune a bass. It struggled even on the low strings of my guitar. Lastly, the pedal has a bypass mode (which was my main motivation for getting a pedal over a clip on tuner). Little did I know, the tuner *only* functions in bypass mode and does not provide pitch readings while in normal operation.
Overall, the construction is lackluster and there are better alternatives out there. This is the cheapest for its value thought, and it's not worth it to me to return it for the time being.

Great Turner pedal at this price!

By Jordan G. from Tacoma, WA

Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because it is slow when using a drop tuning. Other that a great pedal at a awesome price. Easy to use and accurate. I use it for playing at the house.

Not Responsive; Doesn't Pick Up Low End

By David J. from Madison, WI

I have several Behringer pedals, and all except this are good for what they are. This tuner is not responsive, inconsistent in responding to input, and almost never picks up the low E or A string on my guitar. Seems like some folks have better results with the pedal, but I would not recommend this. I was hoping this would be a cheap backup/extra tuning pedal, but it's not worth the space in my bag, let alone the purchase price.

The Price Fits

By Justin V. from DERBY, KS

Picked up this tuner a few weeks ago. It is very slow to register the ringing strings. Also compared it to three other tuners I own and the three were a match, tune wise. The Behringer tuner pedal was sharp on all the strings when compared to the other tuners. I returned the tuner for a refund. For a $ pedal you certainly get what you pay for. I do not recommend it.

February 9, 2022

Not that great!

By M

This pedal tuner does not have a true bypass in it. So it will greatly diminish the sound of your guitar or bass when it's connected regardless of the mode it's in (kind of defeats the purpose of having a pedal tuner). It also tunes very slow for a bass guitar. Was a wast of money

Good tuner - instruction misprint

By Stevolo from Idaho
Music Background: Novice

Great tuner once you figure it out.
Recently bought one, and was VERY disappointed at first.
Instructions have a reference to "see Chapter Operations," but there's no such thing in any of the instructions that come in the TU-300 package.
The on-line instructions for the TU300 are just the same.
But digging a little further, I found the "Operations" chapter on the Behringer website for the old TU100 model's instructions.
Without the instructions, it's pretty easy to start pushing the "Mode" button and not knowing where that's taking you.
Maybe some folks with more experience with a pedal-type tuner could figure it out intuitively, but for a novice, it was pretty frustrating without complete instructions - note this is a problem with the Behringer instructions, not Sweetwater or the TU300 itself.
So, a half-star off for that.

Worth 20 bucks, but no more than that...

By Sweetwater Customer

Well, proof that you get what you pay for! It has a really hard time tracking lower notes (the low E and A on a 6 string) even when using 12th fret harmonics. If you have a baritone guitar, forget about it! Also lets quite a bit of noise leak thru and you have to disengage some pedals and crank your guitar volume so this will hear you. I wouldn't trust it in a live situation to save my life.

Behringer TU300 is cool! Buy with confidence!!

By Brandon T. from Zachary, LA
Music Background: Professional (playing gigs and recording since the early 90's)

I had been curious about this pedal for a while because it seems very similar to the wildly popular white Boss tuner pedal (I forget the model). Is true that it lacks the steel casing of the Boss, but it still feels like a solid pedal and that it could possibly withstand constant use/stomping. It is very accurate with tuning my 5-string bass and works every bit as well as the Boss does. All the LED's were nice and bright and easily discernable and each mode/setting does exactly what it's supposed. I prefer the chromatic setting with the stream/cent button set to "stream". My only complaint is the location of 9v power supply plug-in which is on the side (on the right) instead of on the top of the case, and unfortunately the power supply (bought separately, doesn't come with the pedal) isn't a right-angle connector, which could make difficult some types of pedal boards. I've read where some weren't happy with it's performance powered when powered with a battery. I'm not a fan of using batteries for pedals to begin with, even on the best-of-the-best brands (power supplies all the way around for me). FYI...I'm only using this tuner with my home recording set-up where it stays on via a Behringer power supply during my recording sessions and it will permanently live on my desk, not getting stomped on. So, not worried about it there. I will say, though, I wouldn't be afraid to use it at gig. It's not a steel case, but it's sturdy enough in it's hard plastic case, and I don't kick my stuff around like a football either. In summary, buy with confidence, it tunes precisely, and it is sturdy enough which makes it an awesome bargain!!

Absolute garbage

By Pat from Ohio
Music Background: Long time bass player and guitarist

I've used many tuners over the years with both bass and guitar. Most had a few quirks but generally worked well. This is what I get for being a bargain shopper. For acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and bass, it's almost worthless. It recognizes signal extremely slowly, and it never quite locks on. It seems pretty darned inaccurate too. I went against my own standards and bought this cheaply made reverse engineered/copied piece of gear. At least I'm not out much money. To the trash heap.

February 7, 2020

good not great

By Christian from Seattle

I purchased this after returning a Donner Deluxe DT chromatic tuner because it was so inaccurate as to be worthless. This is better than that at about the same cost. It is not perfect however and will probably be replaced at some point. It's much more accurate than the Donner, but it's still not what I would like from a tuner. It's also often very slow to identify the note being played. This is particularly a problem with lower notes. Most of my guitars are tuned to drop-C (CGCFAD) and the low C does not register at all when plucked normally and even using 12th fret harmonics is very slow to identify. Bass strings are also hard for it to identify and I've found I must use 12th fret harmonics to tune them at all. Finally, the pedal produces noise that flows through my board whenever the lights are on. It mutes the signal of the guitar (as desired) but once the tuning lights come on it produces a high pitched kind of whining noise that even gets past my noise gate. If this thing was a $50 pedal, I would be really disappointed, but at under $30, it's OK.

Absolute garbage, a nightmare for the rest of your pedal board

By Mike L. from Vermont

The fact that it's a plastic pedal would be the first warning not to buy, however, Sweetwater conveniently doesn't list this fact anywhere in the description. I unfortunately didn't get the chance to return it while I could, now I'm stuck with two of these garbage pedals. The absolute worst part is the fact that the power is located below the input, instead of at the top of the pedal. It's a disaster when trying to add it to your existing pedal board. The tuning is ok, but once again most phone apps can do the same job. Save yourself the regret and buy something like a used Boss tuner or similar. And as far as Behringer goes, stay away from the plastic boxes. The metal ones, like their Phaser, are quite good though.

returned it after a day

By Evil R. from New York

It works.
But I returned it after a day.

I use a lot of alternate tunings, so I often have to retune/detune very quickly during songs in a gig.
I didn't like the fairly small lettering. I prefer big and very clear.
Also, the # indicator is a very small dot, hardly visible.

Functional but

By Donny K. from IN
Music Background: Wannabe Tribe rockologist

Tuner works well but I don't see it lasting long using batteries. Also this thing loves batteries for lunch dinner and snacks, so don't leave your cable plugged into the input or you'll be replacing them on a daily basis. I prefer batteries because it's less crap to throw in my gig bag and less extension cords and power strips all over the stage, but for this I would suggest you buy a power supply if you want to use for any length of time. You have to push in the hinge pins on each side of the cover/stomp plate to remove it to access battery compartment. The pins are spring loaded, so when you put the cover back on you have to force the pins with the ears on the plate. I envision the ears breaking because of the amount of force required to push the pins in. Not the finest German engineering here, I would say back to the drawing board for this Behringer product.

Good tuner don't forget the power supply

By Eli W. from Franklin, PA

This is my first pedal tuner. it works well as far as I can tell. I love that you can use it for bass and 6 string. I got it for my bass. My only complaint is you need the power supply which is sold separately because the battery will die fast if you leave it plugged in.

If you are out of tune you suck.

By Alex from Dayton, Ohio
Music Background: Humble working player

If you are out of tune? You suck. There really is no way around that. The tuner is the most important pedal on your board. They all work, so the only relevant questions are: 1. Does it nuke your tone when in bypass? 2. Does it nuke your pocket at the point of sale?

The answer to the first is no. And at $... I rated this 4 stars.

My Old Faithful

By Zach
Music Background: Experienced Amateur Guitarist

Honestly, I bought this pedal as a throw away, "I just need something cheap that'll last until I can get a better one" kind of thing. Yet, this pedal is the only one that has been on my pedalboard since the day I made it, and it's still going strong. Works as described, mutes the signal in the normal output, doesn't in the bypass, and I've had it for at least 6 years of performing almost every weekend.

Behringer TU300

By Larry W. from Ohio

I had bought a very expensive strobe tuner and hated it ! Returned it and since I have a Behringer twin amp (which by the way I love), I decided to try out this tuner and I am glad I did !!! It worked perfectly right out of the box and very user-friendly, with simple set up and compatible with my existing 9-volt power cord. It has a hard plastic shell but for the price who cares, it works as good as the much higher priced tuners, and that's what really counts!

Excellent Accurate Tuner For the Price

By Michael H. from Minneapolis
Music Background: 40 Years of Rockin', Funkin', Groovin' and Strummin'

I wanted an extra tuner to leave at a friend's house, practice space or gig bag, but didn't want to drop another $100+ so I thought I'd give the Behringer TU300 a try. It has worked perfectly since day one, it's a fraction of the cost of my other more reputable brand-name tuners which I've hooked it up alongside and it matched the accuracy of those exactly. The housing is entirely plastic and probably can't take the abuse that more expensive tuners would, but I've been hauling it around for a couple of years now and it still works as perfectly as it did when it was new out of the box. No problems at all and I'm totally happy with it for the price.

Nearly Perfect

By Ken O. from Austin, TX

This pedal tuner works like a more expensive brand, and it's performance was "as good as" more expensive, well known names. The TU300 is a step below the big boys due to a plastic body/casing, and a small bit of noise. I have a home project Strat-style guitar that acts the same with every good tuner;G string causes a familiar glitch of back n forth of tuning LED's when actually perfectly tuned. If the tuner is accurate enough,I can do a quick micro-tune on the G and promptly fix it. This pedal pulled it off, which was a nice surprise. Behringer price,name-brand permformance. Buy two.

Good luck, bad luck.

By Joseph S. from CONVOY, OH

Played for several years when I was a teen, actually got paid to make music a few times . . . but got away from music once I entered the military. Got back into music in 2014. Trying to save a few bucks, I bought quite a few Behringer pedals. All but one do their job. Not the greatest, of course . . . but for 20 to 50 bucks a pop, who can complain?
I didn't really want to have a tuner clipped to a headstock all the time and thought that maybe a tuner inline on my pedalboard would work. I placed the TU300 first in line . . . thinking that there would not be any any noise or interference. Well, the tuner worked fine, but none of the other pedals worked with the tuner on my board. Didn't matter if the unit was turned on or not. It wiped out the other pedals.
I don't mean to sound like I'm knocking Behringer. I'm not. For the money, for a beginner? Can't beat a Behringer pedal. I suppose it's maybe a quality control issue, because I also had to return a Behringer "Hellbabe" wah pedal that had connectivity issues inside.

Quite Disappointed!

By David L. from Danville, VA
Music Background: Took music for 6 years, played in several bands (guitar)

After reading reviews and watching them on You Tube, I could have flipped a coin to save time. Greatest thing since sliced bread, or just as useful as a slice of bread. In my case, out of the box it didn't work. It wouldn't register the notes unless you walked them up, hitting each one, from the low E up. If you hit a random string, it registered the high E with none of the tuning features. I am really let down, as some of the folks say that they are durable and dependable. All of my other pedals are BOSS, including a TU 3. I want an extra so that I can leave one on my board and in my "stuff" bag. I may just buy another TU 3, although they cost over 3 times as much, I haven't had trouble with mine. My Behringer PB600 pedal board is fine, I just got a bad one, which you can do with anything.

Only Tuner i've ever needed

By Mitch from New York

This was the first tuning pedal I ever had on my board. When I first got it I had intentions of replacing it eventually. I figured i'd get it starting out to save a few bucks to use on other pedals. While I have changed in and out many of those other pedals over time this tuner has never moved off my board, I see no reason to get a more expensive tuner. It works great, I don't notice it effecting tone in any way, and its cheap. My biggest complaint is the power LED being a bit bright blinding you just a bit from seeing the small display right above it.
