What is Demo Gear?

At Sweetwater, we're so picky that what we call a "demo" is actually better than what most music retailers sell as "new" gear! Our gear hasn't endured hundreds of people a week plunking away at all the keyboards, fumbling through Stairway to Heaven on every guitar or playing with every fader and knob on a mixer or control surface.

What demo means to us is that we've had it out of the box, or maybe it was in a customer's hands for a few days and isn't "factory fresh" as a result. Every demo item we sell has Sweetwater's 2-year Total Confidence Coverage™ warranty, and has been tested and verified up to "new" specs by our factory-authorized technicians to make sure it's in perfect working order before we ship it to you.

When you buy a Demo item at Sweetwater, you get:
  • 2-year Total Confidence Coverage Warranty™!
  • Products inspected and tested by our factory-authorized techs, guaranteed to function like new (or better)!
  • FREE shipping on most items
  • Equipment that will MEET or EXCEED your expectations!

Heavenly Heads

When it comes to tone, versatility, and durability, these heads can't be beat… well they can, literally… just… never mind. I play a lot of gigs for local schools and universities, so the genres I need to reproduce span from military cadences to broadway to classic rock and everything in between. Before I discovered Evans Black Chrome, I would literally change my heads out before each show to fit the sound I was aiming for… but no longer! For being such a heavy head, the Black Chrome's response to lighter playing with brushes and rods really surprised me.

The tone in a word is "warm". I've used heavy heads in the past that make my drums (especially the smaller sizes) sound more like cardboard boxes than toms. Not the case with Evans Black Chrome heads. These things really sing. Nice crisp attack, thick resonance, and a medium decay. The BEST part about these heads is that they require NO dampening! For the past 15 years I've used everything from Moongels, Gaff Tape, napkins, empty wallets, you name it to try and kill unwanted overtones. Don't even worry about it with these guys. The trick is not to over tighten. Start with a couple of turns on each lug, slowly bring it up to pitch from there, and you're done. No joke! It's that simple to tune these bad mama-jamas!

Built to last! I attend / play drums for a smaller church, so buying equipment that's both budget friendly and durable is important. Evans Black Chrome heads have really come through for us. Since our drums only get played a couple hours per week, we've kept the same heads for over a year, and they sound almost as good as the day we bought them.

I've always loved how black heads look on a full drumset. I've put them on 3 different drum kits of varying quality, style, and finish and have gotten compliments on all 3 kits sonically and visually.

If you haven't, get on Evans Drumheads YouTube channel and watch the intro video for the Level 360 heads. I promise you'll be amazed, and let me tell you from 15 years experience and hundreds of drum heads tuned… Evans Level 360 heads are the EASIEST heads I have ever tuned. What used to take an hour or more, now takes only minutes. I'm not endorsed by, or paid by Evans in any way. This is my honest opinion. Give 'em a try. I think you'll be as impressed as I am.
