6-pack of .68mm TUSQ Guitar Picks - Standard Shape, Bright Tone

Sweet tone starts with Graph Tech TUSQ guitar picks! Boasting an amazingly high stiffness-to-thickness ratio, TUSQ guitar picks have a clean, articulate attack and a smooth, balanced feel. And Graph Tech's three distinct pick formulas give you three different tones - bright, warm, or deep. Whichever shape you choose, you'll immediately notice enhanced detail and response when you play your guitar with a Graph Tech TUSQ guitar pick.

Not bright.

By DECEMBER from BEAVERTON, OR
Music Background: Making original music since 1998. Guitar, bass, synths, hand drums.

I recently noticed how dramatically the sound changes with different types of picks, so I got a bunch of different new picks to try. Seems like no matter what I do: pickups, amp, guitar, EQ... it always sounds muddy, so I'm trying to find the brightest picks available.
The "Bright" .68mm TUSQ picks sounded promising, as they're specifically labeled as "bright". I also got Clayton Ultem .58mm, Dunlop Ultex sharp .73mm, Dunlop Tortex .6mm. I've been mostly using the Tortex Flex .5, .6, and .73mm...
Well, the TUSQ "Bright" are the darkest of them all! The Tortex Flex .73mm is similarly dark, but all the others I listed are brighter than the TUSQ.
The thicker the pick, the darker the tone. But the Ultex .73mm is brighter than the Flex .73mm. I don't use any thicker than that. The Flex .5mm is brightest but the low end is lacking. I usually prefer the large equilateral triangle picks but sometimes the smaller ones work better for the part.
My favorites are the Ultem .58mm, Ultex .73mm, and Tortex .6mm.

So far so great!

They are so much thinner than I ever used to play with. Yet they are stiff enough to get the job done like my old thicker picks.

Tusq Tone Control

By Don B. from Cleveland OH
Music Background: Basement Player * Piker (Plus) Level

I picked up all 3 variations (bright / deep / warm) for use on a Brand new Martin (MMV). I was really impressed with the distinct variations in tone that each provided. I did a blind test with a couple of friends and all commented on the difference in sound, especially on more open chords. In addition, I liked the the way each "flavor" felt exactly the same in my hand...other than a slight texture change, each version had exactly the same feel. By having one of each in my case I feel like I have added an organic tone control (for lack of better description) to an already killer guitar.

Not so much...

Always lookin for something to improve the sound. Tusq sounds exactly the same as the far less expensive fender standard 351 pick. Just not worth the money...
