This Value-packed Bass Is Loaded with Features

Loaded with professional features, the Yamaha TRBX605FM offers incredible value in a bass guitar. A classic tonewood combination of solid alder and stunning flamed maple delivers punch, bite, and sustain by the truckload. A comfortable 5-piece maple/mahogany neck combines excellent playability with superior tone and stability. Experience maximum sonic flexibility, by way of the TRBX605FM's YGD H5 pickups and audiophile-grade active/passive 3-band EQ. Beyond that, a high-mass die-cast bridge and innovative headstock design provide optimal vibration transfer and tuning stability. A battery-alert LED rounds out the impressive TRBX605FM.

A classic tonewood recipe

The TRBX605FM is built from quality tonewoods. A solid alder body provides a balanced yet punchy foundation for this bass's tone, yielding equal doses of lows, mids, and highs. A stunning flamed maple top frames the TRBX605FM's basic tone with brightness, bite, and sustain. And the added snap and warmth provided by its 5-piece rosewood-capped maple/mahogany neck are the final ingredients in the TRBX605FM's classic tonal recipe.

Flexible active 3-band EQ

The bassists here at Sweetwater appreciate the clean, open tone exhibited by the TRBX605FM's dual YGD H5 pickups. Plug in, and you'll experience ample output and dynamic sensitivity, by way of these pickups' quad-pole-piece design and robust Alnico V magnets. Beyond that, the TRBX605FM is loaded with an audiophile-grade active/passive 3-band EQ. This flexible circuit offers a level-matched output in both passive or active modes, and tone-switching circuitry that moves seamlessly from treble control to master passive tone. And as an added bonus, a battery-alert LED prevents unexpected power losses when you're performing onstage.

Comfortable 5-piece maple/mahogany neck

If you're searching for extreme comfort, you'll enjoy playing the TRBX605FM. Its TRBX neck design combines a comfortable profile with 5-piece maple/mahogany construction for excellent tone and stability. This bass's refined neck joint reflects the perfect balance of strength, vibration transfer, and upper-fret access. And you'll benefit from superior tuning stability and reduced overtones, thanks to a headstock that virtually eliminates lateral string tension.

Yamaha TRBX605-Trans Black.

Yamaha TRBX605FM - Trans Black. Does everything I want it to do. Flatter radius neck is a pleasure to play. Active, and passive. Great workmanship. Nice 5 string for the bucks. Takes any type of string I want to experiment with.
For the price, there isn't a bass that comes close to the Yamaha TRBX605FM. I would like to see a 6 string version of this Yamaha bass in the future

About me:

All Styles, and performances played on most of the usual suspects of musical instruments which include all species of keyboards, and string instruments that have been manufactured since the dawn of time. I got my start performing in the last century.
Music background: Proffesional Musician.

Great has been upgraded to Awesome!

I have owned the previous version of this bass. Many have stated that the sound can be a little bland at times but with this new version, Alder/Flame maple top, it absolutely sings! The tone is very different though many people will denounce tonewoods but I am super satisfied with this purchase and look forward to many years of playing this bass!

Solid

Bought the bass because I needed a black 5 string and I love my old '98 BBN5 (clear Alder). Tried out the 605 in the store and new it would work fine. I prefer 19 mm string spacing but the 605's is comfortable enough and I like the fingerboard radius and the location of the dots which work well in an orchestra pit with low light - better than center positioned dots. I used the bass immediately after purchase for a theatre musical. I found that the stock strings were not suitable and I got a lot of black fingertips from something on the fingerboard which did not go away after a change to different strings. Not sure about all Yamaha basses, my BBN5 was used when I bought it but this one needed some break-in and the more I play it, the better it gets. It's been about 6 months and after a show with a dozen performances, hours of practice and rehearsal and continued use at home, this girl sings. Her neck is solid and substantial but not too thick. The more I play it and the more I play it against my other basses the more I like it.
Biggest drawback IMO is the passive tone control which seems to do little, very subtle, for my tone until nearly turned all the way down and then it really cuts tone. Good idea, not the best execution, here. Still, not anything to get overly concerned about for me.

Trans Black TRBX605FM

Finally got the opportunity to gig this last weekend and overall, I am very pleased. Weight is fantastic, and balances well on the strap. Good, solid tone and even across all strings. Very good B string with no floppiness. My only real issue is with the treble side fret ends. From the first fret to the last, every single one is sharp. Going to take a bit of work to get this in comfortable playing condition. I was able to ignore the sharpness to get through the gig, but was definitely noticeable and discomfiting.
