Super value

By EJC from SC on April 17, 2023 Music Background: Praise & Worship

I own red version of this one. I have played guitar for around 30 years but I recently started playing bass until now, laying tracks on my own demos. I got a very basic cheap bass but quickly realized I needed to invest into a better instrument.

Enter the Yamaha 305. I find the 5way selector is priceless for me, it fix the guess work out of finding good tones for different applications. Then you can tweak it as needed with the onboard active controls. The battery is accessible via a latch door, where other models from other brands that I looked into have you use a screwdriver to access the battery. The workmanship including the fretwork I could find no fault on great solid job Yamaha.

In terms of just pure value this is hard to beat. The only thing I can think of to add is a switch to play in passive mode just in case you your battery decides to act up in the middle of a gig. I know that it's a feature of its bigger brother but if I have to switch between the five way selector and that the five way selector wins for me especially since I do not play bass live just in a recording environment.

Awesome

High quality and love the easy playability!

So impressed with Yamaha quality - on par with the best of the best

By Kevin P. on October 4, 2022

You really get more with a Yamaha product. This bass is solid - it is tight, I can tell that the construction is first-rate, and I already know it's going to last. I bet the techs who run the 55-point inspections love Yamahas - they seem so easy to set up and keep in tune.

This is my second Yamaha TRBX. I got the Candy Apple Red 304 a few months ago and was so impressed I bought this one as soon as it came back in stock. And Geoff is the consummate professional - he is always looking after my wants and needs, and I never feel like I'm being sold to.

I wish all companies operated like Sweetwater, the world would be a better place! :-]

Really Nice

Really nice Bass. The best you can get at this price point. As always, Yamaha delivers on quality and sound. I have only been playing for a month and don't consider myself a bass player, but if you have the best tools to start, you will build a better bassist.

Great bass great price

Love the new bass. Easy process of purchasing it thru Sweetwater. Also got a case for it the same week.

I have never owned a Yamaha Bass but, I have a Yamaha Trbx305 Bass and it got a great tone and great furnishing. I can't wait to get hold of my personal TRBX305 Gear soon. And I will recommend it to every bassplayer

Awesome Bass

By Tim Reeves on February 20, 2019

I own a TRBX 305 and 304 and they are both awesome. They are my main gouging basses now because they are super light, have a lot of versatile tones for any genre, and are easy to play. I have several other fender p basses and jazz and none of them measure up to these. And both of these together cost less than one of the fenders.

Exceeding ALL of my expectations!

Well ..... I tried a used one at a local music store & I was pleasantly surprised by the superior tone & feel of the Yamaha TRBX 305 .... I decided to order one & give it a try .... I have quite a few basses ...this bass has become one of my main go to basses.... it's got excellent tone & the 5 position tone selector (EQ) switch is great....it is NOT a useless gimmick! ...the bass has a very solid feel to it ..great fret work ... moderate weight 9 lbs ... sturdy good quality hardware..smooth pots ...beautiful finish & matching headstock ...it compares well with basses cost 4 to 5 X times it's price.... it was set-up very well right out of the box!.... accurate harmonics ..very even sustain ,, NO dead spots!.... rock solid stable tuning even de-tuned 1 whole step!! low A thru F. very versatile sound that works with any style or genre .... I am extremely pleased with this high quality machine!

I never owned a Yamaha bass until now and I don't see myself buying anything else now. This bass is perfect in every way. The construction is flawless and the Performance EQ Switch is no gimmick. It's very useful. This bass also has some extremely hot pickups. I couldn't be happier with this bass. It's for sure my number one go to bass.

Yamaha 305 Rocks

By Sweetwater Customer on October 10, 2023

This bass has made me a Yamaha bass customer for life! This bass is absolutely amazing. Sounds great in just about any amp I've played it through. The 4 knobs and a selector switch that allows for multiple different settings. The active pickups make the sound puch through a recorded mix and playing live with guitar and drums. My Sales Engineer Colton is very knowledgeable and made this recommendation as a value 5 string and was spot on!

Great bass

By Chuck from Florida on November 1, 2017

Very solid instrument. The 5 way EQ switch is great, gives you different sounds before you even touch the other controls. It’s also very loud compared to my other basses. The Yamaha with the bass and treble controls flat is more focused on the low end compared to my Cort Curbow 5. It’s a well made, great playing bass

Very well built instrument

By Allen from Raleigh, NC on October 12, 2016 Music Background: 25 years as a guitarist.

I needed a decent inexpensive bass for recording some solo material. I have to say, I'm really impressed with the quality of this instrument at this price point. Much better than Ibanez and Schecter basses of similar cost. Light weight, balanced, very comfortable to play. The neck profile is somewhere between a soundgear and 5 string precision. Just right for me. Jason was great to deal with, as always.

Nice Bass

By Ron D. from Texas on January 10, 2018 Music Background: 38 years

I would definitely consider this a nice bass guitar, good fit and finish, I like the strings it comes with, seem to be a medium uncoated SS wound, once stretched and tuned they kept their tune pretty well. The neck is unfinished and not very slick and the frets feel a little sharp, the whole rig needs setting up that's for sure, but it is usable out of the box.
Sounds good and clean through DI.
I especially like the EQ set up on this rig, being able to switch directly to a certain EQ and tweek it from there is just about as easy as it comes.
The balance is amazing!
5 String of this quality for this price....AWESOME!

awesome bass

By John Regan from Syracuse, NY on March 7, 2014 Music Background: home recording

I just got this bass in from Sweetwater. I really love it. I got a five string to go along with my new seven string guitar and this bass delivers. It has great action and playability. The tonal variety with the two band eq and five way preset switch is vast. It has a nice, tight low end and the high notes on the upper frets are clear and piano like. This bass blows away my Carvin B4 and it costs less too. I would recommend this to a beginner or a pro. Thank you Joseph Secu for making this and all orders go smoothly. You guys went all out with the candy on this order!

Not For Pro

By Timothy Sessoms from MIDDLETOWN, DE on May 25, 2023

This is a nice playing bass but lacks the sound needed outside of the practice room. If you truly want to be a bass player, don't go cheap. It will cost you more in the end.
