Amazing
I've been wanting to learn bass for quite a while now, and I was wanting something affordable to play on. It's a very good quality bass. I'm going to play in my friends band with this bass, and it definitely looks and sounds like it will do well.
Epic axe, accessible price.
This is a wonderful instrument. Sound, feel, neck shape, weight, fit, finish... all outstanding. Pickups have great diversity and sound superb and have a cool indent built in as a finger rest. Frets were all really nicely laid in, no sharp edges. The 3-series TRBX's are a littler preferable to me to the sound of the more expensive 5's, they are 'rougher' but I like it. The 5-string version is also really excellent.
Does it all
Playing for over 40 years I look at my tools as just that, tools. This instrument with the preset EQ settings on the 5-way switch, lets the working bass player go from thump to funk in no time.
All the sounds are usable. The electronics are quiet and the body and neck fit me perfect.
The body is light and balanced standing or sitting.
The neck is unfinished and fast, and two octaves. the hardware is good.
My playing styles are from Jazz , R&B to rock and country. I own eight bass's for that reason setup for different styles. This one can cover it all. also at this price point it is a awesome value.
As always Sweetwater delivered fast and undamaged.
The setup was also playable right out of the box.
trbx304
I am not a very good bass player as I mainly play guitar. I had a hard time finding a bass that was as comfortable and playable as my fender precision bass but this bass is awesome. I wanted a bass with active pickups the eq switch is awesome very comfortable body and neck. I learned don't buy a guitar just because it looks cool get one you can enjoy playing and this one is aces on every detail a joy to play
About time
Its about time yamaha started putting selector switches on their basses. I had an older model that you had to select pickups with the volume knobs. Thank you yamaha!
Condition of product
The Yamaha TBX304 4- string bass is an absolutely wonderful bass guitar.Upon arival tho, the bass was grossly under set up with SUPER high action and buzz throughout the instrument.I'm used to impecable service and awesome product delivery of items in the past which suprised me comming thru Sweetwater. Not only was the bass not set up and the truss rod was freely moving and unattached to the body with SUPER high action, there were several knicks and scratches on the neck and edge of the fretboard. It clearly was a prior return from another customer.
After spending money on a guitar tech to address the issues(who said it was one of the longest set ups he has ever done), the bass was impecable and plays like a bass much more expensive.
Overall, the assistance and help resolving this issue was incredable and could not of been handled better.I still highly recomend Sweetwater for their great products and wonderful customer service, and love the products they sell.
Cheap nut Possibly other parts too
Getting this bass I was initially satisfied but changing the strings caused the nut to become a little lose and then just straight up broke off when fixing the sliding nut. Im no expert I'm not sure theyre supposed to be break like that, also the pickups are impossible to adjust the height of. Thanks, Yamaha.
One major problem
The problem with the bass is the 9-volt battery that it uses. It drains the battery rapidly even when you're not playing the bass or have it plugged into an amp. So you have to take the 9-volt battery out every time you finish playing and you might actually have to replace the battery in the middle of a set. Do not recommend this bass at all.avoid.
