The PJ pickups are clean sounding and very versatile. The neck is very comfortable and playable. The metallic red finish is stunning. I love this bass.

Trbx174 an amazing bass

I ordered this bass and received it 2 days later. It plays and sounds fantastic. This bass feels awesome with a strap and the set up is perfect. I can't believe how great this bass is for the price.

Just for practice!

I was skeptical about this bass. The last time I bought a bass this cheap I got junk! But this Yamaha 174 sounds good and plays good! After I set it up I was even more impressed! I'm no Getty Lee, but I've been playing for a long time and if you want a bass to start out on or just for jamming with your friends without breaking the bank this bass is for you! Thanks Sweetwater.

Great bass for the price. Came with some fret buzz out of the box.

Great starter bass

By Kevin from MERIDIAN, ID on February 8, 2023

Excellent "bang for your buck" beginner bass. I hadn't touched a bass in years and wanted something affordable to pick it back up. It's not high-end by any means, but it's definitely very comfortable to play and feels well-balanced. Doesn't suffer from weight imbalance like many cheap basses. Frets are nice and rounded at the edges, unlike many cheap basses with sharp edges. Overall it feels very premium for the price.

Very Pleased

By Sweetwater Customer on November 18, 2017

I'm VERY pleased with this bass. Being a guitar player, not a dedicated bass player, I'm not familiar with bass guitars that much. But for the money, this one is great for what I need...recording my songs. I wouldn't recommend it for heavy use, but for studio use, it's seems like an excellent low budget choice. Good tone, no buzz, set up well out of the box.
