superb, serious instrument.
as the owner of about 45 basses, i'm here to say that this bass is a serious professional instrument; its quality is beyond reproach. given that it's made to john patitucci's specifications and not mine, i can't find anything to criticize. it's heavy, the string spacing is wide, the preamp sounds like john patitucci no matter how you set it, but these aren't faults; they're the features. playability is excellent, the strings ring like a piano (seriously, i know it's a spinal tap joke, but the sustain on this thing is ridiculous), it's surprisingly well-balanced, and all the components from the bridge to the pots are top quality. the EQ, in particular, is very well tuned: the bass knob basically controls the B string, the mid control covers everything from the open E to the open C, and the highs are everything above that, including the hi-fi shimmer - a very friendly and usable design. overall, it won't become my #1, but it will get played, and i'm glad i have it in my rotation.
Perfect bass!
Absolute quality! High quality materials producing a beautiful tone. The favorite bass of my collection, which includes 3 Ernie Ball BFRs and 2 American Fenders. A work of art!
Amazing Bass, 55 point inspection need a supervisor
I played keyboard for 20 years and three months ago I decided to start play bass. I don't have a lot of reference about type of bass but my ear have the taste for all the years in the music. This bass is truly amazing and for my hands is perfect. I can reach easy the frets and the tension of the string for me is perfect. The bass is big and the weight is like 11lbs but for me, for now is fine. Perfect Bass!!
My only complaint is the 55 point Inspection of Sweetwater. This is a $$$ bass and the the is no protection around the bass like one layer of bubble wrap, extra protection on the neck or something like that. The first bass arrived with two dent in the neck and Sweetwater change it without any issue. The second one arrived with a little dent in the neck and the plastic piece the show the controls names was extremely bend. They need to put more effort in the 55 points of inspection and put more protection on a instrument at this price.
Exceptional
Easily one of the best basses I've ever owned.
Dream come true!!!
After following John's career for almost 30 years. And one of my teacher's play the first version of this bass, I felt in love with everything at the time. When the time came to pick a new yet very rebate but all around instrument for my arsenal, as a call it, a toll for work, it was a no brainer. I have had so many compliments from seasoned, grammy award grammy players, about the features, tone, feel and pretty much everything on this bass!!! Not only I am in love with it! but everywhere I go, play, take it and use it!.
Yamaha trb jp2
Good Sound, versatility, Exellent instrument!
TRB JP2
I"m the 2nd owner of My 2015 TRB JP2 that came from Sweetwater! I still use the original Daddario strings and the bass still sings out clearly, what a preamp and electronic! I have small hands but suprisingly I can handle this 26 fret and 35 scale beast! It proves that this bass is so well thought ergonomically! Wood combo of alder ash maple create a wonderful out of this whole sound, low is so solid & tight, treble and mid are so balanced, 1st time I played it live all my folks loved this bass, they said the low is insane! You won"t sorry buying this thing new or used, the best 6 string I owned!
Dream Bass !
I had been thinking about making the change to a 6 string bass for several years. After doing my research the decision was made to pick up the Yamaha TRB JP2. And it was definitely the right decision ! This bass not only sounds awesome but looks absolutely stunning ! The EQ allows me to dial this bass in to get the exact sound that I'm looking for. I receive so many compliments on how great this bass sounds. As always the staff at Sweetwater were professional and extremely helpful and the customer service is why I come back to Sweetwater again and again !
Great looking bass
I bought this bass to impress and please myself but I was deceived to see how bad it sounds.
The electronics quality is crap. The Marcus Muller basses sound way better for less money.
A bass like this should have a 18 volts preamp system.
