Hardshell Case for 6 Cymbals and 1 Snare Drum with Wheels

What makes a great trap case? A lifetime warranty is a good start. The SKB Trap X2 Roto-Molded Drum Case offers the same rugged reliability as its upright Trap X1 sibling, but in a sleeker, more compact design. Its thoughtful design makes loading cymbals and gear a breeze, and getting it in and out of vans or up stairs even easier. Thanks to four smooth-rolling 4-inch wheels, a convenient top-loading layout, and both top and side carry handles for team lifting, transport is hassle-free. Sweetwater drummers are quick to point out the spacious integrated 6-cymbal vault (up to 20 inches) and carpeted snare storage. Finally, the roto-molded polyethylene shell is great at absorbing impacts to your stands, throne, and pedal, ensuring they are free from damage wherever you play out.

It depends on what you use it for.

By Ron from Herriman. Utah
Music Background: Semi professional drummer.

First off this case is solid and will hold up to a lot of abuse. I have used it on a number of gigs and it's been good.

That said there are some things to consider. For me the cymbal vault is useless. There is no latch to secure the door properly and when you take the lid off the case the cymbal door will come open. I suppose if you had one or two cymbals that might be ok. But the door will still come open when you least expect it. I taped mine shut with black duct tape.

This case will hold a lot. So depending on the amount of equipment you have it will get real heavy fast. Adding cymbals would make it very very heavy.

I have four medium weight cymbal stands and a very light high hat stand placed in the tray.

The bottom area is somewhat clunky. It's not flat and it has odd shaped sides. Due to the wheels I guess. Anyway it's like a puzzle getting stuff to fit just right so the tray will fit over it. It is a pain at times.

Lifting the case into my jeep is best done with two people due to the weight. I can do it but much easier with two

This case is not bad. Far from perfect but it rolls into the gig real easy and it's nice having a lot of equipment in one place.

If you can go to a music store and check it out first I would suggest that. Then buy it from Sweetwater if you still want it.

Design flaw.

By Ron r. from HERRIMAN, UT

This is a very well made case and the casters are pretty good. They are not cheap plastic. I will use this case and for the most part I am happy with it. It weighs 38 pounds empty so you do the math. It's a heavy box when filled.

The design flaw is the Cymbal compartment. They don't tell you this, but the only thing holding the cymbal door closed when the straps are released are two plastic tabs. That's it, there is no latch. So if you have cymbals in the cymbal compartment and unstrap the case, the weight of the cymbals will cause the cymbal compartment to come crashing open. It's rediculous they did not put a latch on this. It would have been easy to do.

So in order to prevent this from happening, as soon as you open the case, take the tray out and reconnect one strap. Keep in mind, the cymbal door may or may not open immediately upon unstrapping the box. A slight nudge is all it takes for it to open. The more cymbals you have in the cymbal case the easier it will be for it to fly open. A clear design flaw.

I did not buy this case to put cymbals in so I will not be using it much if at all for cymbals. So it's not a deal breaker for me.

Otherwise everything else about this case is excellent and it will last for years. If the casters go out they would be easily replaced so that won't be an issue.

SKB, put a latch on the cymbal compartment and you will have about as perfect a trap case as you can get.

Still my favorite case!

By Michael G. from NE Indiana
Music Background: Semi professional

This is still my favorite case. It's versatile and well built although the wheels are a bit undersized if you plan to use it a lot over the road. I have friends that have swapped out for larger caster wheels. SKB has always stood behind the product and provided me with free replacements so I just shoot them an email when I need replacements.

SKB Rolling Trap Case

By Terrell P. from Virginia Beach
Music Background: Experienced

The case is exceptional. The only problem is one of the screw holes for the coasters is mistreated so the screw has to be forced and don't go in all the way. So much for QA...

Game changer for gigs

By Mikey from Houston, TX

I've been touring with this case for well over 12 years and it's still working like a champ. I play a modest 4pc kit with 2 medium sized cymbal stands, clamps, medium weight hat stand, floor legs, dbl braced snare stand, nitro throne (small padded seat instead of tractor), double pedals, cymbals, and 14" Snare - all of it fits inside this case. I've had to replace the buckles once due to stage hands grabbing the straps instead of the handles...yeah I don't know why they do that either.

***HELPFUL TIP*** cut a dolly plate of 3/8" or 1/2" plywood and upgrade to Penn-fab 4" casters. Do the math, trace it, whatever you gotta do to use the threaded holes on the SKB case. Be sure to get the right length of bolts. I did this little upgrade the first week I had this case many years ago and it's never failed. Also, the little cavity inside the cymbal vault is big enough for a shaker, vocal mic, etc.

Fantastic Case!

By Mike G.
Music Background: Touring

I have used this case for almost two years now and I still love it. It has lots of space and the cymbal vault is great. The only flaw I could point out would be the wheels. I used it frequently for Lower Broadway gigs in Nashville, so I had to push it sometimes several blocks along the street and that took a toll on the original wheels. Other than that its still holing up to road use really well!

SKB X2 trap case

By Joey

This is a game changer for me! Getting all my hardware, snare drum, pedals, and cymbals in once case on wheels saves 2 trips to the car during load in.

RAD CASE!!

By Patrick A.
Music Background: Touring musician

I took this case on a month long European tour. The case held up extremely well!
I'd put larger casters on it...
But! with pedals, cymbals, brick of sticks, and a snare. The case came in at 98lbs.
After multiple flights, and 3 weeks on a tour bus/trailer, it performed like a champ!!

Also fits in the trunk of a subaru legacy, and a kia avanti, with some room to spare.

If you gig for a living, this is the case. hands down.

Excellent Trap Case, Well Made

By Sweetwater Customer from Tonto National Forest, Az

I heard good things about SKB Case Line from other drummers, and I'm glad to say it was as described.
I like the Idea of the Cymbal Compartment Design, The cymbals are well protected and plenty of room to take what ever I need, without having to buy another case on casters. Also the snare drum compartment
will accommodate a 14x6.5 or less with carpet surrounding the snare drum. I have plenty of room in the removable tray which is also well designed, So you can use this in or out of the main case.
You have an extra compartment, nicely designed next to he snare drum, for multiple items like my snare stand or other hardware.
Overall I find this new design by SKB to be a great Improvement over the larger models, sleek look and easy to load. The straps are sturdy and will defiantly pull tight and stay tight.

Great protection, but....

By gene from houston, texas
Music Background: 28 yrs of playing, full time private instructor for 7 yrs

I purchased this a while ago and returned after one trip to Washington state.
It protects gear great, but the casters are not suitable to travel the airlines. From Houston to Washington, upon arrival, the first thing I noticed was one of the casters had been bent in and not repairable or replaceable. SKB has great warranty and customer service and refunded/replaced this case with no issues. So other than that flaw, this case protects gear great. Cymbal vault is cool, enough room for snare drum, spdsx, sticks and some hardware.
