Excellent Pedal
I few years back I replaced an Ibanez Tube Screamer that was stolen along with other pedals on my pedal board. These pedals are heavy plastic but work fine and sound great for a fraction of the cost. I don't abuse my equipment so they work fine for me. There's no way I would spend the extra money on Ibanez or any other brand without first checking to see if Behringer has a version. Can't say enough about Behringer. My thoughts.
It's green, but not too mean!
I bought this to use at jams where you never know what amp or pedals you'll be able to use. I figure if I forget & leave it at said jams, I'm only out $, or thereabouts!
This Pedal Blows Me AWAY
Such legitimate sounds coming out of this little thing! I have worked on tube amps for years and this pedal is the closest to an overdriven TWEED FENDER..... I use 2 (they are only 30 bucks) and kick the second one in for over the top distortion... Just buy one.... Heck, buy two!
Tubescreamer anyone?
Sounds much like the old tubescreamers. Great sound and inexpensive what else do you need?..
Baddest Little Pedal For The Price!
This Pedal Packs a punch no matter what your playing but really shines in Blues and Rock and definitely the best for the price this should be if not your first pedal as a begginer your 2nd or 3rd it is that important to the development of your playing from the early stages you will have a edge without the pricetag!!
Smooth like butter!
I put the TO800 between an Epiphone Firebird and a Gibson Goldtone GA-5 and it bleeds pure BLUES. Make yourself happy and buy it.
great value!
provides the tone & boost you would expect from a vintage tube style overdrive, it comes very close the the pedal it was inspired by at a fraction of the price. great service from Sweetwater as always!
Putting a little more fun in my sound
Cruising the January sale email, I hit the brakes when I saw this for such a low price. If it was mediocre, no big loss, I could pass it on to someone I know just learning guitar right? But just like every other Behringer product I own, this one knocks it out of the park for a great price. Why pay a fortune for a pedal that does the same thing? The signal through is clean and the ways you can set it provides a versatile range to fit any situation or playing style. I love the way I can shape my Les Paul to get just the right sound for what I'm playing.
As always, Sweetwater customer service is the absolute best. Thank you Joey for making all this happen with no hassles in spite of my bobbles!
Plastic Huh.
How many parts of your car are plastic? Enough said, this thing sounds great, it's a no-brainer.
Maximum chuggs
I bought this pedal, after researching it and checking out reviews.i play thrash and various forms of extreme metal.it took my rhythm tone to the next level.the chugs and crunch is so satisfyingly heavy.this pedal is THE best affordable alternative to more expensive overdrive units.at the price you can't go wrong
Excellent pedal- Drives Solid State or Tube amp well
I purchased this primarily to use with my 67' ProReverb. It gives the warm drive and break up I was looking for without having to turn the amp up ear splitting loud. I also use it to give my Boss Katana 50 MKII a nice boost. For less than $ this was an easy choice. I will likely buy more Behringer pedals. They allow for experimentation without breaking your wallet. Sweetwater service and follow-up is stellar.
Great Pedal for the price
A great pedal for the price. Has everything you need for a clear overdriven sound. I am a beginner and this pedal worked really well for me and introduced me into the world of drive pedals. Would definitely recommend buying.
Behringer TO800 Vintage Overdrive Pedal
Love it! Extremely good sound and at a great price. Sounds as good as most of those high dollar tube screamers.
My favorite overdrive
I have used 2 real tube screamers, a soul food and a tumnus extensively, as well as tried out/gigged numerous other pedals but i think this is my favorite overdrive. I am using this and the tumnus for stacking-they are on bypass loops so I'm not too worried about the plastic enclosure as my foot never hits the pedal. Nice buy!
Great Overdrive
If you want a cheap Tube Screamer clone, I'm not sure you can get one better than this for less money. I own this and a TS mini, and from what I understand, both are based on the TS808 circuit. The TS mini has a richer low end to my ear, but the two pedals are not that noticeably different, and I prefer playing the TO800. I crank up the level, turn the drive all the way down, and leave the tone knob at about 9 o' clock for a light, bluesy breakup that's surprisingly touch responsive. It works for me and my taste.
Best bang for my bucks
Nice pedal, very affordable. I've read a lot of reviews about Behringer pedals not being very durable because of the plastic casing, but I don't really find that to be a problem since I mostly play at home. Behringer pedals don't come with a 9-volt battery or ac adapter so plan accordingly if you buy one. As others have mentioned before, the battery goes directly under the pedal switch and you will need a small screwdriver or something similar to depress the pins on the side to remove the switch cover and install a battery.
This pedal is an excellent entry level pedal and produces a decent tone. For the money, it's just a great buy and should last a good long while if cared for properly.
Low cost, but valuable.
This is a perfectly fine overdrive for the price… I've owned a good amount of stomp box type pedals, from low cost to high, and have not yet had the experience of the plastic housing on the behringer units crack or break. I gig pretty regularly, and so far so good. It sounds like it's supposed to , And it gets the job done. I personally use it as a lead boost into a boss blues driver, and it stacks with it wonderfully. If it breaks, given the price I'll buy another. You might have seen the YouTube comparison videos, so if you have, and are thinking about this one…. Just grab it, it sounds just how it should.
Way cooler than I expected.
I've always said I didn't like tube screamers, but maybe I just never tried an 808 variant. Not only do I love it boosting a Friedman BE-OD or Wampler Pantheon, but I actually like the sound all on it's own. I've also got an EQD Plumes that I use for some of the same things as this TO800. The Plumes is fuller sounding, but for a boost, that's not necessarily what you want. The TO800 is pretty perfect Volume all the way up, Drive all the way down, EQ starting it at noon and tweak to taste. Takes your low to mid gain amp or OD pedal up a notch. More sustain, more gain, more clarity. Cleans up the low end. Makes everything tighter and more articulate. This thing really delivers what you'd expect from a TS808 style pedal. Silly not to pick one of these up, even if just as a backup/spare.
Get TWO! I mean it!
This little effect is a miracle. I play blues and rock and EVERY sound that comes out of this little green box. If one is into extreme, over the top, towering volcano of sweet distortion BUY TWO.... There really is no need to purchase boutique overdrive effects when fifty bucks for two of these guys does the trick! Sweetwater MUST have a demo of twp chained together. This little pedal ROCKS!
When You Don't Want To Commit To A TS
I was weary of dropping serious cash for TS pedal so I chose this unit to experiment with. And honestly, I don't know if I want to pay money for a TS because this unit is AMAZING. With this unit, some sort of BD pedal, and a fuzz and I don't think I'd ever want any other OD pedals on my board. Beautiful crunch at high gain and nice clear transparent distortion at lower settings. Wanted to pair this with a delay and reverb and it fits perfectly. From some indie styles to some punk and this unit was stellar. Recommended.
It does what a good time screamer does
It's a tube screamer! Just playing it alone by itself through my board was loads of fun and I keep finding little things I love about the tones it produces. It's probably the best budget tube screamer clone around! Don't believe me? Shoot it out with a ts808!
This pedals makes people angry.
I've never owned a TS before. I put this pedal in front of my old Twin Reverb and start playing. My friends are asking me what overdrive is that?, because it sounds awesome. I told them it was the new Cusack and they went "oh".
I know how it looks
I know how everyone is either on board with Behringer or not. For those who want to hear a Great Tube Screamer sound, it's worth $. Sure, it looks bad, but all I care about is tone and this sounds fantastic. Wish I had these when I was younger.
Great pedal
Does what I wanted it to do and sounds great!
Sounds just like my TS-808!
Outstanding little pedal! It sounds just like it is supposed to. Rich, Creamy overdrive!
Sounds good to me.
I was lugging a heavy pedal board up and down basement stairs for each band rehearsal at my brothers house. I keep a Peavey solid state there for convenience so I don't have to take an amp. I decided to try some Behringer pedals to just leave in the practice room because the price was so reasonable. I had my first rehearsal with my delay, noise suppression and the Vintage Delay, 2 of these TO800's to stack as I could not get the OD300 at the time in stock. I am not a fan of a tube screamer into a really clean amp but was surprised at the full overdrive I got from this. I bought the NR300 Noise Reducer because I guessed incorrectly that these would be noisy pedals because of the price. Not too noisy at all with a decent amount of drive settings. I have never used a noise pedal before and not sure I like it but really don't need it. Also I just ordered the OD300 today and will just wait until it comes as I feel it will be good as well. Perfect for my rehearsal and honestly I would gig with the TO800 and the VD400 (vintage delay) with no concerns If my main ones went down. I thought them being plastic would make them flimsy but they feel more solid than I expected. IMO these are good quality pedals. I have been playing in bands a few decades. Hope this review is helpful.
The Best !!!!
Amazing overdrive sound for my telecaster with just a little bit of tone and it sounds creamy and no treble ice picking
Solid Value and TONE
There is absolutely nothing bad about this pedal, even the plastic case is solid. I don't use batteries but when I do the "hassle" of the battery access is a non issue for me. The tone is a win, price is win, sweetwater service is win. I always test "transparency" of ODs by feeding it with FUZZ. With the TO800 tone knob at noon, the delicate and sometimes edgy and thin highs from the fuzz with single coils are rolled off. This "roll off" of highs is actually desirable by some of my clients and guitar buddies But with the tone at max, the highs are just slightly attenuated. Great pedal for revoicing fuzz and rolling off the ice pick from single coils. It also cleans up pretty good with guitar volume attenuation.
tone n crunch!
This thing sounds great for the price and the shipping was very fast! Always a pleasure doing business with Sweetwater!
Wow man
Lol I can't believe the sound for the price. Hilarious. Sounds just as good as any Ibanez I have access to. And there is a lot.
It walks the walk!
This my 2nd review on this pedal. I have used it for 1 1/2 years now & have changed it from 4 stars to 5 stars. It still sounds like a TS-808 Tube Screamer, as I stated in the earlier review. I am now using it in front of a Marshall Origin 20 watt head & the sound is great. My concern before was it being made of plastic, well we have put it through the paces & all is well. Housing is holding up fine, switches & controls are like new. I use it nearly 1 hour a day, everyday, & it is still going strong. I highly recommend this pedal. It should be on everyone's pedal board. It adds a sweet OD without sounding "Fake". Get one, you won't be disappointed!
Shhh it should be priced higher
Buy one. Buy a few if concerned about build quality. You'll be frustrated that this pedal sounds better than your 200.00 gain pedals. I am.
Great Pedal
I'm no overdrive pedal expert (more of a jazz guy) but lately I've been obsessing over them, I guess after 50 years of playing I was due. It sounds good and I've compared to what I've seen on you tube A/B'ing through the same monitors. Also to some other NON-TS budget drives off of Amazon that I bought. It's got its own sound, I thought it would be a bit more gainy but I just boost it with something else and it responds.
It's On My Pedalboard
Yea, it's plastic and it only costs $. But does it work? For me, yea. I was putting together my pedalboard that I was going to use at my 6-month solo restaurant gig. I had several overdrives/distortions in my box o' pedals: vintage RAT, BK Butler Tube Overdrive, EH Little Big Muff Pi, Rocktron and...this Behringer. I swapped everything in and out, flipped switches and twisted knobs and what stayed on the board? The Behringer. Yep, who woulda' thought? This little green plastic box was the easiest to dial in and gave me the sound I was looking for. Everybody's got a different sound in their head they're chasing and for me, the Behringer TO800 delivered. It's not that any of the other pedals were "bad", they all have their applications, but for me, the Behringer TO800 gave me the sound I wanted with a minimum of knob twisting. I set it and forget it, and when I need that singing sustain I punch it in. Is it the most durable OD pedal? Probably not. Is it a great performance/cost value for the weekend musician? Absolutely.
Great pedal for the cost
Purchased a few months ago, and I really like the sound it makes. I have a solid state amp, and this sounds really good through it.
BEST PEDAL EVER
Same circuitry as a tube screamer. Not the craziest pedal ever, and it's got a flimsy plastic casing, but it sounds great, there isn't to much hum, and if you're careful with it, it will last for a long time. Plus, if it breaks, you can go out and buy another one... Great deal, awesome pedal!
Vintage Greatness
The Vintage Tube Overdrive takes me back to the days of my childhood and the music I grew up listening to. This pedal sounds awesome whether I'm running it through my preamp of my amplifier or through my effects loop. That's not an easy task with my piece of junk amp! It makes my junk amp sound awesome!!!!
If you want a great budget pedal this is one I recommend, I'm a guitar player on a real tight budget, I can't afford the expensive toys.
Mojo
I watched the JHS video, OK? This sounds JUST LIKE the TS808. And I have one of the reissues. But I plugged this one in and, I don't know, maybe it's because I'm so frigging cheap, but I just LOVE playing through this pedal. It's got some serious mojo...
Great circuit and sound
This thing is perfect if you are looking for a TS808 at a fraction of the cost.
It is identical except for the plastic casing, which does seem to be less flimsy than
the older Behringer ones. A+
same circuitry as a tube screamer
You can't go wrong for the fraction of the cost of the Tube Screamer. Only difference is one is metal and one is a hard plastic. I would definitely buy this again for the price. It sounds really good. I have had some of the more expensive pedals that are 10x the price and this is just as good.
Excellent Overdrive Pedal
When I received this pedal, the first thing I did was put it right next to my other, more expensive "green" re-issue and A/B'd it. Is it EXACTLY the same? Of course not. The most obvious difference is the TO800 has a plastic case. To be fair though, the case seems pretty hearty, and unless abused it should last a very long time. Beyond that, I have to say I found it difficult to hear much difference between my traditional green overdrive
and the Behringer. Like many folks, I have a lot of overdrive pedals and certainly didn't need another - but curiosity got the best of me. The price is just ridiculous. It's so cheap, I had to try it.
To sum up: If you're looking to get into a great sounding "green" overdrive pedal without spending too much coin, this is a solid investment.
The reviews are true
I bought this because it got so many great reviews and I am so happy I went with my gut on this one. I was going to buy a JHS Bonsai, but it's $220 new. For $30 this thing is awesome sauce. Seriously, buy one. I might buy two more just because I suspect they will be collectible someday.
If you want a Tube Screamer, and don't want to spend the money, this is equally as good if not better. Can't rave about it enough.
Great pedal
To start with , I cant believe the the price for this pedal. Its an unbelievable value. It sounds great. Use it on the clean channel of your amp and its a nice smooth overdrive. Where I think it really shines is when you put in front of your dirty channel with the drive all the way down and the level turned up. It ads so much to the dirt. You need to get one. You wont be disappointed.
Great Tube Screamer 808 clone!
If you want a near identical Tube Screamer 808 sound, then this is the pedal for you. Not only is it dirt cheap, but it sounds amazing, and is a terrific price... You could buy 3 of these for one Ibanez TS808!!
People may complain that the casing is plastic, but it doesn't bother me. In fact, it feels pretty sturdy when I play it.
I would recommend playing this with the AC adapter though. The battery compartment is a pain to get to...this goes for all Behringer pedals like this one.
Authentic Tubescreamer Tone
This... pedal sounds great. Literally the same tone as a 150$ Ibanez pedal. Can't believe how adorable it is, and as a mostly bedroom player I think it will hold up for quite a while. Could not be more pleased with the tones. Excellent value, if you need an overdrive on a budget, don't think twice.
Great Pedal
Ordered this and several other Behringer pedals when they were on sale, and they have all been great, inexpensive additions to my board. This one has a nice overdrive sound that works well with both single coils and humbuckers. Given the price point of these you really cannot go wrong are they perfect - no, but considering that you can get 5 or 6 pedals for the price of one or so "boutiques" who cares. While they are made of plastic, this is not a problem for me. Only minor complaint is the battery compartment is not easily accessible, which is not really an issue for me, but may be for battery users.
If you wanna make your wife happy buy this pedal and spend the money you saved on a night out with the missus! And you'll still have money left to buy the Behringer Super Fuzz! Chewy thick goodness! Or the Behringer OD/Distortion pedal. Oh, yeah! Stack 'Em!
Crazy Thing That This Inexpensive Pedal Nails the Vintage Tube Scream Vibe Better Than SEVERAL Other Brands At Triple The Price
I was so skeptical of the hype surrounding this pedal- the ratings just couldn't be accurate;reviews had to be bogus. I DID choose to get one for a young nephew to add in front of his barely decent small-watt combo. As I was tuning it up for him, setting intonation, and string heigth, I gave that cheap Behringer a full tilt workout. Man, I nearly felt insulted it sounded so good, especially for a garage band/man cave,semi-gigging player. Seriously, this ain't right, but all goood. Try one, just for drill. A tiny bit noisy and in a plastic housing but this be a real gem for a low gitas cash count. I was tempted to leave a better drive pedal behind for my little nephew, and kinda use it or awhile but couldn't do it. Added a 7 band EQ pedal, it became noiseless and sounded right. It's fun to play! For the $$, yep...Old Dawg is getting a couple pronto.
Unbelievable.
Full disclosure; I am a Tube Screamer junkie. I have a TS808, TS9, TS9 30th Anniversary Edition,TS9DX, and TS5 (not to mention an Ibanez JD9 and Hardwire CM-2). This thing absolutely blows a TS808 out of the water. I am not exaggerating, it has more clarity and articulation, and to my ears, an overall better sound. Save yourself the $... and get this thing. Who cares about the name or the plastic enclosure, don't jump on the thing and it'll be fine. Hell, for the price, get four or five of them. Seriously one of the best values in pedals on the market, period.
Mind Blown
I expected great things (tone wise) from this pedal and it delivers. What surprised me though (and maybe it’s just me) is that the build quality isn’t that bad. I’ve seen reviews that say how flimsy and easily breakable it is but I don’t get that feeling using it. Yes, it’s plastic but the functionality is what matters. The adjustment knobs are really nice to adjust as they have a little bit of tension to them which feels nice on the fingers, to me. Unless you curb stomp every pedal you own switching it on I honestly wouldn’t be worried about it breaking.
The tone is fantastic. I like to keep it at 25% drive 75% tone and 50% level. I play mainly doom and post rock so I put this guy before my Hoof and magic happens. Don’t delay getting this steal of a pedal!
Don't go by the cost
Don't go by the cost of the pedal or worry about the durability. Like my sweetwater rep Andrew Reina said nothing wrong in trying this out since it sounds good for such less cost and he is absolutely right, it sounds excellent. For a beginner like me I can experiment with this and then go for Ibanez tube screamer. Thanks Andrew Reina for your patience to walk me through the difference between different types of pedals.
Bought this on a whim...
I bought this on a whim because it was so cheap not knowing what to expect. The reviews were favorable, but I still was apprehensive as far as how it would sound. But I figured for $... if it sounded terrible, I could use it for some weird noise rock style stuff and I’d only be out a few bucks. This thing has made its way to my regular pedalboard. It’s literally a tube screamer that isn’t $100-$150. If you can get over plastic casing (which as long as you aren’t stomping on it with all your might...it looks/feels like it’ll be fine) then buy this. If it DOES break you can buy 4-5 of these for the price of an actual TS9 or god forbid a TS808.
Nice Overdrive
I have an amp that has overdrive in it but, works with the boost function. I disabled the overdrive and, went to clean boost added this pedal and, that was the answer. I have owned and used other brands of overdrive-distortion pedals that had the sound of this one but, around 5 times more expensive. Yes these behringer pedals have plastic housings but, don't let that stop you from buying one. I have some that are 5yrs old and look and perform perfectly. I've been a musician for well over 50yrs and, I would recommend these to anyone.
Sounds like a 1980s screamer
I used to play a ts9 in the 80s. This Behringer sounds like it. I’ve had this for 3 months. No problems. Good buy.
Excellent!!!
For the price, you absolutely will not find a better "clone" than this. It's clear and articulate, yet it retains a warmth that isn't muddy. Yes, it's plastic. But, if you don't abuse it, you'll be fine. As far as inexpensive overdrives go, it's worth trying out!
It sounds great-I had an original 808 & later original TS9 years back.....Thought this Behringer was worth trying & now that I have,I'm glad I did.It sounds great. That was the reason I gave it 5 stars.I was going to knock off a star after trying to install a 9V battery.....If you're playing in a church setting (like I am) or anywhere that there are people there who would be offended by swearing & cursing, you'll want to avoid having to change the battery while you're around them....The tone & the price + the fact that I'll be using a 9V adapter saved it for me....It is plastic so therfore I was'nt expecting the solid feel of another similar pedal but the pins that hold the battery cover/top of pedal on really are terrible...IF I sent it back, that would be the main reason.....otherwise,I do like the tone.As always, great service from Sweetwater.
Green pedal sounds just like the real deal
I bought this TO800 back in the days when it was only $20... Better get it before the price goes up again. Buy it as cheap gifts for your guitar playing friends and neighbors. And yes, this sounds exactly the same as a Ibanez tubescreamer. I have a Ibanez tubescreamer and this TO800 and listening carefully I cannot tell any difference between the two. It sounds good, I like its pleasant green color, its durable enough for home use, maybe even live ( I only play at home). I am very happy with mine which I keep on my B board with its other Behringer brethren, buy it.
A great little pedal
This is a nice little entry level pedal. I just started using a pedal board and didn't know much about using different pedals. This pedal when engaged gives a nice little growl and boosted tone. For the money you can't beat it. I'm looking at what other behringer pedals i can get.
Tubescreamer for under 25 bucks
Decided to try after seeing online reviews and comparisons between this and a vintage Tubescreamer. Thought no way it could be that good. Surprise I was wrong. I have had tons of Tubescreamers and screamer clones. Moded screamers by analogman and jhs this little puppy can hang with any of them. If you are in a pinch or deciding if a Tubescreamers are your sound. This is a cheap and easy way to get one. Way to go pleasantly surprised!!!!
It's a Tube Screamer
It's a Tube Screamer. Dead on.
You pay extra $$$ for a nice enclosure and a brand name.
(side note: we bought this to throw some dirt on a Roland piano for a few shows because an Ibanez or a Rhodes is way too expensive - this thing delivered marvelously. I use it in my guitar rig now)
Beyond my wildest dreams
Mine came today. Was doing a lot ot reading and even more watching Youtube on this pedal. Pulled the trigger over the weekend. I play metal, and use a Bugera Trirec. Been wanting to just give my distortion a little edge and clean the tone up. This pedal took me about 10 minutes to dial in. I have to say, this is exactly what I needed. I now have the sound/tone I have been striving to achieve for the past three years since I went full tube. Highly HIGHLY recommend this pedal.
Astounded
I wasn't expecting to be impressed in the slightest when I was buying this pedal, but at the time I bought it I was a little tight on money and was trying to cut costs, so I sold my Fulltone OCD and bought this just to get me by. And wow, though it's no OCD I'm amazed at how good this pedal is. Yeah, it's a cheap plastic case, but it sounds absolutely fantastic and it's actually quite versatile considering what it is. Zero regrets here. If you're wondering if it's a smart choice to buy this or not, just go for it.
TO800 Pound Gorilla
Well, the review title may be a bit hyperbolic, but this pedal is quiet and sounds GOOD. Just as we don't take our high-end guitars out on gigs, this will easily replace a valuable vintage screamer for those risky venues.
Awesome Overdrive!
I had a few bucks to burn from a gift card I was given as a Christmas gift, so I picked up one of these pedals, not expecting too much. Once I plugged it in and played around with it for a while, I was blown away. This thing produces a perfect more mellow overdrive sound for the pop-rock songs that I play where my normal overdrive sound is too much. I am so happy that I've added this pedal to my arsenal. It's really been a great find. Yes, it is plastic, but unless you are abusing your pedals on a regular basis, I think it should hold up just fine. And at this price, if it does break after a while, replacing it won't be a big deal.
Bang for your buck
...it would not be fair to give this less than 5 stars. Yes it's plastic, and probably won't hold up well if your gig a lot or are hard on your pedals, but it sounds good, it's not noisy...
If your on a budget or a beginner or just not gonna use it much. Give it a try, it's a win win for the price.
Very Impressive
I ordered this because of the price and the reviews but I was still a bit skeptical and honestly wasn"t expecting greatness. This thing is amazing. It doesn"t sound quite as good as a TS-9 but it"s pretty darn close. It"s certainly worth the money which I"ve never thought the TS-9 was not to mention the TS-808 (the most overpriced piece of gear in the history of music). The build quality isn"t wonderful, however it is much better than I was expecting... I highly recommend this pedal to anyone from the beginner to the seasoned gear snob. For the price you likely won"t be disappointed and if you are it will still make a pretty cool paper weight. Stop reading this ridiculous review and buy the pedal already jeez!!!!
Great Overdrive Pedal!
I own a "ton" of pedals im studio work, you never know whst you'll be called upon to do. I already own several Behringer pedals, and I also own a tube overdrive/preamp. So I'm up on what a good solid state overdrive should sound like.
This thing is great! It sounds smooth and warm- the onset of overdrive is very gentle and doesn't sound rashy. That would be enough, but... This is the deal of the year!
If you don't care to own one, give it as s gift :)
Impressive
Well it's plastic. But that's kind of expected at this price.
But man does it make up for it in tone.
Quite surprised actually. No need to spend a lot of money to get a really good sounding overdrive pedal now a days. Does it sound like a good metal green overdrive pedal? Yup. Very happy I got this.
LOVE IT!
If you're on a budget and want a crisp crunchy boost this is the pedal for you.
Super Clone
Killer Pedal...10/10 Out of The Box
Greenie Tone-Meister
Hard to fathom the quality of tone coming thru this plastic box. At this price, I'll purchase another before I buy another 'original' green box.I have a REAL original, this unit actually compares in tone/sound. This pedal along with the Vintage Tube metal-housed pedal will get you ALL THE WAY THERE,drive wise.I combined with a MojoMojo and about flipped out at the rich harmonics thru a tube amp. WOW- I have purchased a Behringer "clone" version of all the high $ units in my pedal board just to see where the rubber meets the road. So far, only the yellow chorus pedal,UC200, has been sub-par, although it may not be fair to compare to a vintage FX60 from '85! Just buy one...today.
Great pedal!
This pedal adds rich harmonics and is very touch sensitive. It's like adding a Presence knob to my amp. It cleans up nicely when turning down the guitar's volume knob. It's quiet for a gain pedal and the drive is sweet sounding--not harsh, brittle, or muddy.
I compared the TO800 side-by-side with my Boss Super Overdrive SD-1 and the Behringer won every category. The SD-1 is very noisy and sucks the low end out of my tone. The Behringer is very warm and musical.
I also tried it with my Martin Dreadnought Junior and it worked well with the acoustic guitar.
This is my first Behringer pedal. I bought it based on the reviews and they were right. I'm blown away by this pedal and highly recommend it!
I'm Shocked!
I got this pedal because I like ODs. I have a few and all have a different sonic flavor. Now, being as this thing is green, and configured like a TS9, and only $20, I decided to throw caution to the wind and order one. I'm really glad I did! Being as I have modded the daylights out of one of my TS9's, I could not do a side by side comparison with a stock one. This is the part where I made someone unhappy. I had to get on stock TS9 back from some who had borrowed it. Although there are slight differences between the two, the TO800 held its own. I would have no issues using this an stage or at session. To anyone who is on the fence about this because of the price...BUY ONE, or two. No regrets here with either the product, price, or Sweetwater!
Incredible Value Pedal!
This pedal produces nice warm tones indistinguishable from a real tube amp to my ears. So smooth, and so natural, from clean to distortion. I'm playing a Fender Strat HSH through a Fender Champion 20 amp for home studio recordings. No noise or hum with this pedal. Good versatility, from clean to dirty to full crunch tones. No, this is not a "metal" pedal, but then that's what I expected since it's called an "Overdrive." But it goes well as complimentary to a metal pedal. This is an incredible value pedal. If I didn't know better, I could've easily seen this pedal costing $100 just based on the sounds. As a side note, I've heard people complain much about Behringer pedals being constructed of plastic and having a difficult process to change batteries. Well, first, regarding the plastic construction, this is a solid plastic. It's not like you can sit there and bend it back and forth like a credit card. So unless you're going to use this pedal as a trampoline, it's a non-issue really. I'd say get over the paranoia. Second, if you're still using batteries for your effects pedals, not only is this poor practice as a musician, but also this is a lame excuse for blaming this pedal if you have difficulty changing batteries. USE A POWER ADAPTER AND DAISY CHAIN. Pure and simple. Especially considering how cheap power adapters and daisy chains are nowadays. I use an Outlaw 9V DC Power Adapter (cost me $7.95), which powers virtually any pedal universally, and I have an Outlaw 9V DC 5-Way Daisy Chain Cable (cost me $4.95) which plugs in to virtually any pedal as well. Now how long would it take you use $13 worth of quality 9V batteries? Whereas I'll never have to worry about buying or installing batteries again, and be saving a lot of money in the long run. So I have no issue with batteries installation because I simply bypass the need for batteries. Bottom line: This is a great pedal, at any price level. Highly recommended.
Great for the price!
Bought this nearly two weeks ago and finally gt to use it last Sat night at a gig. When using my Strat I only used this plus a boost pedal for solos and it sounded great and then when I went to play some rock with my Les Paul I used it to boost my solos...sounded great and the price wasn't bad either!
NICE TONE
I was blown away by this pedal it gives your signal the right amount of front end gain without a lot of noise that a distortion pedal can bring. gives you a "rhoads" type of tone and a "letekro" kind of mid range tone.
only complaint is it is made of plastic... but you can buy another one and for the price why not by 2.
Very Good
This OD pedal is a gem for the price. I own and have used other well known and much more expensive OD pedals and the Behringer TO800 is a real surprise. It provides a nice warm OD/boost without adding any noise to my signal. It sounds as good as my primary OD pedal that cost 5 times more.
Very Impressed
This pedal does not compare to a TS9 or a TS808, but just consider the price difference. Why would you expect it too. Testing them side by side it is impressive how good this pedal is for the price. My biggest complaint would be this pedal makes slightly more noise and hum, but it's minimal. This pedal makes me question why I put out the money for a TS9. If something happened to my TS9 I would have no hesitation replacing it on my pedal board with this Behringer pedal. As for its build quality, sure it feels cheaper, but it has actually held up well to a good amount of aggressive stomping, and if it breaks whats the big deal, buy another and you still spent less than you would on an Ibanez.
behringer overdrive tru800
Absolutely shock at how good this sounds for 30m bucks!! I actually prefery the plastic housing as it has no paint or anodising to chip, and it's darn near indestructible 5 stars
Strong contender for best OD under $
This is a great sounding pedal with good controls. Can get it to sound almost identical to a TS. Only cons are plastic enclosure and can get a bit fizzy with gain above 2 o'clock.
Just the right amount of crunch
This is a budget friendly pedal that provides a surprisingly nice sound. It adds just the right amount of crunch I was looking for.
do you feel lucky?
this is my second attempt to find "The One". the first was too noisy- this one is dead quiet when you switch it on. gives just the right amount of edge, at least with my guitar and amp (which is solid state). btw, the amps onboard distortion was not getting it by a long shot. if you get lucky like i did, this is a cheap way to go.
Pretty close to the Tube Screamer
I actually wanted to order another Tube Screamer TS9 but it was out of stock. The web page gave me some alternatives and this was one but at about a quarter of the price. Decided to try it. Not disappointed. Very close to my TS9 but perhaps not quite as well made. Still a good backup.
As good or better than any TS-type OD I've tried
I usually stick with my Vox amp, but I occasionally play a Fender-style (mid-scooped) amp to mix things up, and that's where I thought it would be a really good idea to have a TS-type OD on hand. While I don't love it paired with the Vox, but it's no secret the TS circuit really works its magic on the Fender-style amps.
Most critical reviews of this pedal point to the plastic construction/durability rather than sound quality. I agree. I'm not at all a fan of how it looks or how it feels in my hands, but if you can get past that, the sounds are great. To find this level of sound quality at this price point is ridiculous. No more than I plan to use it, this is the perfect compromise for my purposes.
Best Green Drive!
It has a red light. Its almost free. Its a TS.
Any Questions
Thanks to Delvin and the gang
The price is right!!!
Does what it says. Good for a little grit to your sound but no means for metal or hard rock. Can be used to push a tube amps gain channel for a good brown sound. Wish it had a bit more kick to it but that's why behringer makes other pedals.
For $, every guitarist needs this
Woke up all my distortion pedals exactly how I wanted and the noise floor is WAY better than I expected. This is a MUST HAVE!
Unbelieveable Value!
All I can say is Josh was correct. This pedal sounds just like a Tube Screamer! I have had it for a few months now and no problems. Songs good whether you dial in high volume and low gain or vice versa. A great bang for the buck. Only downside is that it is made of plastic and durability may be suspect. With that said, given the price, you could probably order 2-3 of these and come out ahead financially, especially with the recent price drop.
Well worth the cost
You can't really beat this pedal. After watching a JHS video on Behringer pedals, I decided to give this thing a shot. It was my first tubescreamer. I didn't quite know what to expect but the back to back comparison with the original, headphones on, left me barely able to tell the difference. I played around with it once I got it. I like to play metal, and I've got an amp capable of great tone, so I currently have the gain and level at noon/eleven respectively and the tone at 2. On my clean channel, it gets me a tone similar to the one from Danzig's "Mother". On my crunch channel, it boosts and tightens, just as you would expect. The price to performance is unbeatable. The only thing that would make it better is if all the housing was metal but it is what it is. Will I eventually replace it? Very likely, one day, when I have the cash for boutique goodness. But for now? This thing'll last me a long while.
What now
Walked into Sweetwater during Guitar Month to see these pedals on the middle display. Saw the price tag -- Had to get it. Sounds awesome, just like an Ibanez Tube Screamer (I think a TS808, but I'm not an expert on TS sounds). The only issue I have with it is that it seems to make a lot of noise when I'm not playing. Still maybe the best deal on a new pedal that I've ever had. If you're wanting to try a TS out but don't want to spend the money, this is what you need.
Very Pleasantly Surprised
I was NOT expecting anything really... This thing sounds absolutely awesome for what it is. Build quality is okay considering it's a plastic housing. I do have to take off half a point because the IN jack lets go of the cable way too easily, but that's an easy fix as long as you know what you're doing.
Seriously if you're on a tight budget or you just wanna have a little fun and give a few cheapo pedals a try, this one won't disappoint. Tried it in several applications from the SRV stuff to tightening up my sound on a high gain setting and it was great in both. No, it's not anything crazy like a Maxon OD808 or a Fulltone OCD but c'mon… you get something that sounds this good.
discount overdrive pedal
I picked up this TO800 pedal and the Behringer super fuzz pedal also. Both pedals seem to be easily worth 3 times the price. You get that big discount because of the plastic enclosure. These pedals still look strong, they are not flimsy at all. This vintage tube overdrive sounds more like what I hear on song recordings but both pedals are a must have at this price point. The ability to tweek the sounds on both pedals is very good, so you can sculpt the tone to your own personal likings as you play.
Juicy sustain!
Used this pedal in a band setting and absolutely loved it! Helped me stand out when playing leads and the sustain put a huge grin on my face. Definitely like it more than the Joyo Vintage Overdrive I used to have. My bandmates also complimented the sound I got. Thanks to Caleb for keeping me posted on the shipping. I will definitely consider other Behringer pedals.
Nice pedal
Nice pedal and great sound not over the top distortion but nice for rhythm you can hear all your notes well good for the blues or if you are not looking for that heavy metal sound yes it is plastic but seems to be well made and should hold up if you have it in a pedal board and don't beat on it I am very happy with this purchase
Solid
I was surprised at the tone and the sustain on this pedal. The only problem I have had with it is that it will not work on battery. It Works great when on a power supply
Not Bad
Bought this for my practice rig. Have a TS 808 that I don't want to leave at rehearsal space. Very close to the 808 and very good price with free shipping! I'll definitely buy more behringer pedals to complete my practice rig.
Good TS9 Clone
Very good TS9 clone, I bought this pedal out of pure curiosity to see for myself if the positive comments are true, and they are! decent sound that allows me to jam with friends leaving more expensive gear safe at home, I recorded a couple of tracks with this one and other tracks with an Ibanez TS9 and no one can tell the difference once in the mix. Thanks to Matt Masek for an outstanding service, as usual. I recommend grab one of these here at Sweetwater.
Great pedal!
Does what I bought it for--a smooth overdrive to about 3/4 Drive, then it'll really dish up the dirt if you want it. This pedal has a great sound, maintaining your tone, particularly the bottom end. I already had a Boss Super Overdrive, but I wanted something not as gritty and this pedal delivers. This pedal is more touch sensitive and tube-like than the Boss SD-1. The articulation to your picking is excellent! The only negative is battery access, but I plan on using their PB600 pedal board, so I won't be using batteries. I have this pedal outputting to the input of the Boss pedal. Lots of tonal possibilities now without risking expensive pedals being nicked on a gig. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
Not Bad
While its not going to change the world like the original tube screamer did, but it definitely works as advertised. It boosts the guitar up to a nice tube overdriven sound even on small combo amps or cabinets. It has a wide drive and tone range that can go from a slight clean boost to a full hearty crunch. It's true like other Behringer pedals it is a plastic housing but if you don't plan to treat it rough I see no reason for it to break. So if you don't want to spend the money on a TS9 this is definitely not something to pass over.
Excellent Value
Replacement for a stolen Ibenez Tube Screamer. Does the job at a fraction of the cost. Heavy plastic. I'm not hard on my equipment. No reason to spend more for this type of effect. Been using it now for a few years and have no reason to look elsewhere. Behringer pedals are fine.
Behringer vintage tube overdrive T0800
Straight to the chase. Well its not cast aluminum housing for that price..It is,however, surpisingly good sounding regardless of price. Tone wise a lot of bang for short money. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it as long as you're not expecting bulletproof construction. 4.5 out of 5
Behringer Tube Overdrive
Great pedal for trying out overdrive. Plastic construction is good for home use, but probably not great for travel. If you purchase this pedal, make sure to purchase a power adapter or a power supply. Batteries die quickly and when on low power, the pedal does not function properly. Also, the batteries are not fun to change, especially if on a pedalboard.
Lots of bang for a few bucks!
Saw the Youtube comparisons, this pedal against a much pricier verson and couldnt hear any real difference, I ordered the pedal and it sounds great no reason to spend more money, give it a try!
As good as it gets
Ok let's talk about what a tube screamer is: a mid boosted distortion pedal. In that definition, this is even more like a TS than a TS. I'll say its one of the two best TS clones out there. I dont think it loses to a real TS. In fact, I sold my TS and am probably going to buy another one of these. It does cleanish overdrive all the way to EVH territory if you set the tone knob right. Save yourself some money. This pedal is it.
TO800.
with free shipping the price is hard to beat. Sounds great & completely satisfied. If Behringer made it simpler to add or change a battery, I would have gave it 5*, instead of 4. Grab yourself a power supply and you won't cuss while performing this task. Sweetwater delivered, totally satisfied, you guys rock !
Great pedal
Awsome pedal for $... If you max the tone out the pedal seems to get little extra distortion
making this my favorite overdrive. Im using it between my Fender American Strat and Orange
Micro Terror. All knobs on pedal set to max.
Good Pedal
PRO's: IMO, & to my ear, I can not tell the difference from this pedal and a TS-808 Tube screamer. Sound is the same, controls work the same. I've tried it in a Blackstar amp & a Hotone Purple Wind amp, sounded good in both. The switch is silent. It's way cheaper then the Ibanez.
CON'S: It's plastic. I'm in my 60's, handicapped and only play at my home studio & jam with my Grandsons. I treat my equipment gently so the plastic housing isn't a issue for me. When I played in Bar bands 70's thru the 90's I think the housing wouldn't have lasted long. But for the cost difference you could buy several of these. They could have charged a few bucks more and put in a battery box, because installing a battery will have you cussing in a few seconds. A power supply (Which I already had) solved that issue.
FINAL: Behringer has come a long way with their pedals in the last few years. The sound is good. If you are easy on your equipment, or are using this at home, you won't be disappointed.
Awesome Pedal!! Couple flaws though =(
This pedal is great! The only problem I have is that the battery compartment is not easy to access. This is not a problem for me but it could be for some people. Actually, the tone knob just gives sort of a flat tone no matter where you set it but it is not that bad and with most amps it sounds fine but with my Yamaha THR10 II I am having trouble getting the tone right, so you might want to get a graphic equalizer or even a different pedal altogether if you are going for a Nirvana guitar tone. Otherwise this pedal is awesome! It sort of dampens other pedals that are before it which is a good thing in my case. If it weren't for the tone problem I would give this a 4.5 or 5 star review. I find it sounds best with other pedals if you are going for a more distorted sound. I have played guitar for like 4 years and I'm a tween.
Almost free
For the cost of this pedal I would have been content if it didn't sound as good as it does, and it truly does. I've blown much more money on worse things including other pedals, the price is very deceptive, the sounds you can get aren't. I primarilly use it to boost an excellent Fender Super Champ XD, it takes it one notch further, as I hoped it would. They obviously kept the price very low with the plastic case, not to worry, it's very sturdy but I don't play out anymore and can't vouch for how it would hold up over time on stage. I've entertained the thought of running 2 of them together, probably a duh idea but that's the way us guitar players think at times, the tone we're looking for is usually elusive, even when it is sometimes right in front of us. If your budget won't let you get the pedal of your dreams, you can't go wrong laying out 20 bills for this one. .
Yes it is cheap
After 15 months of light use around the house, the LED stopped working (but only while using the battery)... the overdrive effect still happens, but now I need to plug it in to get the LED to come on. Weird.
Also, after comparing this to the similar BOSS pedal, I noticed that the TO800 has a way brighter buffered bypass tone than the BOSS, and not in a good way. It also makes the effect seem really muddy when you kick it on. (The SD-1 has a warmer buffered bypass tone while it's effect is brighter and more articulate than the Behringer, making it more balanced.)
This thing does sound really sweet, though! Back in the 90's I had a cheap Ibanez "Sound Tank" version of the TS and then later got a real TS-9. This sounds as just good as either of those did.
Kept it because of price
Didn't really care for this pedal didn't make much difference in my amplifier sounds
But I just kept it
My son plays semi professional and he didn't think much of it either
average sound, VERY cheap build quality (from a pro guitarist)
I am very surprised this thing gets such good reviews. I have owned MANY TS clones over the years, the GREEN RHINO being my fave. This Behringer has average TS sound, a little bit screechy/scatchy, pretty good but nothing great. Sound is OK for the $ I paid for it. The real problem is this thing is CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP (I currently own two other Behringer products and know their reputation). The plastic case feels incredibly flimsy, like it will break apart in your hand when you remove the front pedal part to change batteries. Also, the knobs do not rotate smoothly... the left knob binds up at one side of the rotation. Checkout the other TS clones (Joyo, Nux) for a metal case, a better battery door and smoother knobs. What a cheap piece!
Not Bad
Just received this today and spent 3 hours developing a tone for my Gib LP and Blackstar ID core 20 amp. Ive never owned an overdrive pedal, and was not sure how,,if it all, it would work with my Rat 2 Distortion. It does not work that well with this amp (on clean) with both the rat and the TO on, for me it was hard to dial in) mostly muddles. But seperately it does pretty good (3 stars)(It is pretty good, and this thing says its then worth 3 stars.I don't have much to compare it to other overdrives Its not as sustaining as my Rat, and not as heavy,,so its kinda cool switching it up for something different. I was bored with my Rat,,and this made me realize how good the Rat is for me. It does sound pretty good. I have tone on 10, drive at 2 pm, and Level at Noon,,amp EQ at noon,Gain at noon and vol at noon and LP varied.,,Do try to get a Power Supply,,Behringer works fine,,because its difficult to change batteries,,and can easily break by doing so. If your on a tight budget, this is good for a variety of sound.
Pedal
I'm not thrilled with this pedal but for the price point it is what , it is OK
I'd say try it you might like this pedal. I do like this company that makes item.
Not horrible
I bought this pedal a few months ago, but over the last couple day the pedal has been acting up, when I plug it in the he light comes on but it stays on and does not turn off. It works but the volume has to be turned up on my amp, I tried to fix it, but nothing with work, I don't know if it was something I did or the pedal, but it is a cheap pedal, overall not a bad pedal, but your better off getting a boss overdrive or a tube screamer
Wow a tube screamer copy that sounds like a ***** overdrive
Very disappointed. I've owned a real 1982 TS9, Distortions galore and yet this one is below all of them. Its cheap, i know. Just the noise (interference) and the loss of bass, make it a 10 on the suck meter. The old TS5, TS7 or even off brand distortions are better.
