Double-row Tambourine with Nickel-plated Steel/Solid Brass Jingles - White

Juggling the tone of two jingle types, this Meinl Percussion Recording-Combo ABS Tambourine delivers the shimmering warmth and crisp attack you'll find handy any time you reach for a tambourine. Sweetwater percussionists really appreciate the combination of the slightly darker solid brass jingles with the ultra-bright nickel-plated steel jingles, and together, they let you produce anything from swelling sustained low-volume shaking to powerful and percussive strikes and snaps. It also doesn't hurt that this Recording-Combo ABS Tambourine is virtually indestructible, making it an excellent option for live performances or worship bands where instruments get passed around a lot. And between its guiro-style playing surface and padded grip, you couldn't ask for a more comfortable tambourine.

Great sounding tambourine!

By Pine C. from Eastern Idaho
Music Background: Semi-pro

I play in a band doing lots of pop and jazz standards with 3 or 4 other folks. The new tambourine adds a nice percussive base to our performances. Nicely made and a great sound.

Best sounding tambo I've recorded, and the balance and responsiveness are amazing. Get the best and you'll never need another.

Fun and Shimmery

By Frequency F. from DELAND, FL
Music Background: Reviving interest in music

Never had a tambourine before! Listened to some reviews and liked the shimmery chime to this one. The different metal alloys (or whatever the proper term is) make it sound bright. Feels solid and stable. Like the other reviewers stated it does have some heft to it. Since I'm using to add some flavor, and have available to my jam buddies, not too concerned about the weight. Happy with it.

Very Good Tambourine

By David R. from Las Vegas
Music Background: Musician/ Producer/ Engineer

as a owner of several tambourines, I'd have to say this a worthwhile addition to any percussionists collection.
the mixture of different jingles give this tambourine a unique and distinct voice when mixed with other tambourines and percussion. If I needed to own just ONE tambourine however, I wouldn't get this one first but if you record a lot of percussion or you gig on percussion for a living, it's definitely worth the money.

Cool Sound

By Steven R. from SUGAR HILL, GA
Music Background: Gigging Drummer, Soundman

The combo of brass and steel zills (jingles) offers a nice full dimensional sound. I love brass, and this combo is great too. Volume in live performances cuts thru nicely. ABS frame is very strong and a bit heavier than most, but not objectionable by any means. Grip is comfy. Highly recommended.

Satisfied

By Rex H. from Pahoa Hawaii
Music Background: Reeds, Didj, Native American Flute since 8 yrs old, I’m now 73

My 1st purchase from Sweetwater and overall a good experience. The product I acquired is of great sturdy quality and exactly what I wanted for jam session participation. I'm a woodwinds musician but also an explorer into new musical ambition and appreciation of string and percussion instruments. Most of my favorite musicians are well rounded with many talents and achievements. Jerry Walsh of the Didj Project is a great example of what I'm in awe with in music exploration, achievements and capabilities. Steve Hackett and Jake Shimabukuro being my favorite stringed instrument magicians.

Does everything I want

By Sweetwater Customer

After trying to play my drum-set-mounted tambourine by hand, I realized that I needed a real hand-held tambourine. This tambourine succeeds on two levels: 1) it's easy to hold, a good mid-weight, and has a great sound and 2) it's really eye-catching on stage, with the white frame and two different colored metals. I am so glad that I didn't try to "make do" with the mounted tambourine!

Rings loud and clear. It's my only one so i have nothing to compare it against. But on it's own, sounds good.

Good quality for the price, but be aware...

By JPS from Colorado

... It's quite heavy, so if you play for long stretches of time, choose a lighter tambourine. It's loud though, so you can play it with a smaller more relaxed motion and still get a lot of sound. I suspect Meinl could have made this model lighter without sacrificing ruggedness, but they do offer quite an extensive range of different tambourines.

Professional tambourines sometimes have hammered jingles which prevent them from having a specific ringing pitch. The combination of machine-stamped steel and brass jingles means this tambourine doesn't ring at a single pitch. However, the brass jingles are all pitched at F# and the steel ones are all pitched at B, so those two pitches are the main ringing sound. Most people wouldn't notice or care.

I'm on the fence about the spongy rubber handle. Because of the weight, I think I'd rather have a smooth hard handle, rather than have to squeeze a cushiony handle. At some point, the handle will wear out, and I'll find out if it's better with or without.

It's durable, affordable, loud & clear. But it's heavier perhaps than it needs to be.

Right sound, good balance!

By Michael K. from Alabama
Music Background: Professional

Its been a while since I purchased a tambourine, I have one I play every week but it's slightly different. This is an amazing update to mine. This was purchased as a gift to a friend to use in her ministry. She Loves it! The double ring one brass, one nickel had me a little concerned it might be loud or brash. For a tambourine it is PERFECT! With a little practice anyone can make this one sing sweet music.

Modern style tambourine

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Playing now more than ever!

It's beautiful to look at. It's relatively comfortable to use. It has no volume, and that's the reason for two stars.

Great Choice

By Barton P.

I've used several tambourines but this is my favorite so far. Great weight, balance. Excellent sound. Some popular tambourines feel and sound like toys, this feels like an instrument.

Love It!

By Stephen F. from Lapeer, MI.
Music Background: Studio producer/musician

This Tambo sounds GREAT! Love the clarity and brightness. The variety of steel and brass jingles together ads a great thickness to the sound. The handle is also well-made and easy to keep a grip on.

It does happen to be a very LOUD tamborine, but I happen to like that quite a bit, and it works great in my recording studio.

Top Quality

Just got it so I haven't used it on stage as yet. But it appears to be be very well made, heavy duty and comfortable in my hand. It sounds great as well.

Can a tambourine be "too loud"?

By Nicholas C. from Honolulu, HI

Solid construction, good feel with the grip, easy to play. It's not a complaint, but my only worry with this instrument is that it is really loud. Haven't used it performance yet, but hopefully it's not overpowering.

Love it

By David T. from Seattle, WA
Music Background: 50 years performer and recordist

Stage or studio, this is my favorite tambourine. Note, however, that it has a more delicate, longer-sustaining tone than the ubiquitous RhythmTech, which might actually be a better choice for you if you're trying to cut through a loud band.

Feels Great

By Sweetwater Customer

All around, this is a great tambourine. Nice, crisp, jingly sound, and the padded grip is easy on the hands. Seems to work well on tight patterns, whereas some cheaper tambourines the jingles are too loose. Whereas when you have excessive space for the jingles to travel, this causes a less-than-tight action. This tambourine is much tighter than my other, cheaper tambourine. Recommended.

AMAZING SOUND

By Ellyes B.

This is by far the most amazing tambourine I've ever held. It has the brass and silver jingles giving it a "crash" kind of sound, which makes hitting it the most satisfying thing in the world. And don't worry about hand cramps from all the fun you will be having with it, because its grip is superb and will although will eventually become uncomfortable due to personal fatigue, you will be able to keep a beat going for far longer than any other tambourine. Excellent product for a percussion enthusiast like myself.

ABS tambourine

By Sweetwater Customer

This tambourine is a great addition to grow list of percussion items I use while playing jazz, folk, early alternative, and country music. It fits very well in either hand and can easy be mounted to a stand. It takes the slight hand vibration to activate music and is easy silenced for a break in the music. A must have for the open minded genre musician.
