Shockingly good

By Liam C. from New Hampshire
Music Background: Guitarist/bassist

Been playing the walnut flat version for a few months and am blown away at the quality of this instrument. There are many small blemishes and imperfections, but nothing that affects playability and honestly I kinda like them. Can definitely see myself still playing this bass in 10 years.

Happy happy happy!!!

By Glenn N. from Ruidoso New Mexico
Music Background: Blues and 60 & 70's rock started at 16 now I'm 72 and still playing.

Recently purchased a TMB100M(flat yellow) and it felt great from tuning and ever since. Love the natural neck and control knows sensitivity. Had a 1974 jazz Fender that was my baby until my house burned this spring but I've had Ibanez before with good results. When I got this bass set up it played and sounded beautiful. It's a joy to play and price was great. Sweetwater's service has been great. Took some of the pain away from my Fender Jazz burning.

My favorite BASS to play!!!

By Sweetwater Customer

I've bought two of these over the past six years or so and I'm continually pleased with the sound and playability of these basses. For the money spent, you can't find a better bass. As a side note, both of my Ibanez' play and look great after much abuse. The only reason I have more than one is because one is kept at my practice space and then one more for home use. I adore this instrument. Beginner or not, this is a quality guitar that will neither disappoint nor break the bank. A third one is probably on the horizon for me. I'm afraid they're going to disappear or that they'll change the style and I'm just so dang pleased with it as is. I find this model is extremely well suited to Funk/R&B/JAZZ sounds, but can thump pretty hard for someone wanting to play more in the rocknroll vein. Highly, highly, highly recommended!!! 5 out of 5 stars!

GOOD FOR THE PRICE NOT FOR THE TIME

By Grayson

It's a good price for a beginner bass guitar but I've had my for 8 months and the input is messed up.

Awesome bass

By Al from Texas
Music Background: Hard Rock, Metal

I bought this bass several years ago due to good reviews and price. I thought I'd buy it just for practice purposes at home and use my higher end basses for rehearsals and gigs. I've only replaced tuners with Grovers. I practiced with it at home day pryor to rehearsal and enjoyed it after I stored it for several weeks. Yesterday I took it to practice and band members complemented bass sound and that they really liked tone. Reviews are great for good reason. This bass goes against the grain of " You get what you pay for " mentality. I never thought that this bass would be my " go to " bass. It's light weight, sounds great and is a keeper.

Could have been better.

By Christopher T. from Michigan

The bass I received had a few issues. The bass/tone pot was warped causing it not to be able to turn both knobs on the double shaft pot, The bass had a lot of fret buzz in neck due to a large bow in it,I went to adjust the neck and the truss rod head had a lot of damage in it, it looked like someone had tried to turn it with an incorrect sized tool. I tried to turn the neck truss rod with the included tool but it was very hard to turn to lessen the neck bow and the tool would slip due to the truss rod head being partially stripped out and at this point I did not want to risk damaging it more. The battery pack was not shielded very well causing the entire bass to pick up a lot of interference with anything nearby electronic.

I exchanged the bass for a GSR200 that had no issues out of the box. The sales staff at Sweetwater really went out of their way to help me get this fixed up and I am very grateful for their help,

Beginner and beyond

By Ben
Music Background: Performer/Teacher

This bass is impressive. The sound is fat, and the feel is surprisingly good. This is the backup bass that squeezes its way between you and your high-end go-to bass. The only thing cheap about it is the price. When someone hears it, they like it, then you tell them the price and it shocks them.

Best bass in this price range!

By Chris from New York, NY
Music Background: Session/Gigging

I've been playing 5 string jazz basses for the past 10 years and I really was missing the sound of the p-bass pickup. I didn't want the shell out for a Fender without seeing if a 4 string/jp arrangement was comfortable and this bass had everything and looked pretty neat.

The bass is amazing, really for $ you don't expect much and this bass blows the doors off anything near this price range. For years if anyone asked for the best beginner bass I recommended the Yamaha TRBX174, but this is much better and cheaper.

Pros:
-Comfortable instrument overall, small neck, light body & well balanced when on a strap.
-active preamp, easy controls & decent sounding pickups

Cons:
-No radius on the fretboard, it's flat as a sheet of paper (some people like that though)
-No control for the mid in the preamp; can sound muddy with the bass control up and crackly with the treble up.

Really for the money you can't come close to this bass, I actually snuck it into a recording recently and it sounded great! If you're just starting out or looking for a decent knock around bass you can't go wrong here. I'm probably going to get the Talman 600 next!

Astonishing

By Jefferson F. from Jackson, MO
Music Background: Played, toured, recorded extensively

I bought this bass for rehearsal and songwriting purposes. I've been recording with an American Fender Jazz bass and a vintage fretless P bass...until I plugged this thing in. It's got a mean edge that cuts through a mix like a chainsaw, is very flexible and when you take a look at the frequency analyzer you're gonna see this bass mixing itself. I wasn't expecting much...but this bass is way underpriced. Buy with confidence. Oh yeah...it's comfortable, has a great neck and fretboard and the controls are nicely indented for center and well placed. Just a real win in my book.

Versatile and clean

By Connor from California
Music Background: Mojo Master

I bought this bass strictly for recording. I played it next to a Fender P bass (MIM) and this this sounded nice and clean and a bit more twangy/modern compared to the P bass (lower and more thumpy).

[Yes, I know, they're in different leagues]

The TMB-100 is very versatile with it's on-board EQ section and three pick-ups. I'm using it strictly for DI recording at the moment. Tuning knobs are nice and fat and the cut out of the body sits very comfortably. The nut is made out of cheap material (go figure) and also the wood is light but has a brighter resonance.

The action out of the box was not too high or low and it's well intonated. I chose this by how it sounds and I love this thing (especially for the price).
