Toca Percussion KickBoxx Pro Suitcase Drum Set - Cobalt Blue Reviews

Suitcase Drum Set with 2 x 10" Toms, 10" Snare with Throw Off, 14" Bass Drumhead, 4 Accessory Posts, and Cymbal Attachment Rod - Cobalt Blue

Drumming on the go just got a whole lot groovier! The Toca Percussion KickBoxx Pro suitcase drum set from Sweetwater expands on the offerings of the original model, now including an extra 10-inch tom, two more retractable accessory posts, and a cymbal attachment rod. Not to mention its sleek new Cobalt Blue finish! With both 10-inch toms, a 10-inch snare with throw off, and a 14-inch bass drumhead, this suitcase model quickly becomes the perfectly versatile timekeeping solution for buskers, club performers, and musicians on the move. Despite their shallow builds, each shell, including the bass drumhead, is tunable to your liking for a comfortable surface-striking response that's just right for your playing style. Within, the KickBoxx Pro supplies enough room to neatly pack up all elements of the kit with ease — even your kick pedal! For additional accessories and auxiliary percussion, the carrying handle of the KickBoxx Pro doubles as an attachment surface for you to deck out your Kickboxx for personalized grooves every time you setup.

Kickboxx

By Stan J. from California
Music Background: Band director for 40 years and professional musician.

It is very compact and easy to set up. I have already used at one of my student recitals and worked perfectly. It has good tone and I use it in my studio.

Better than you think it'll be!

By Jeffrey T. from Bellingham, WA
Music Background: Lifelong keys player/composer, enjoying a relatively recent conversion to drumming

I'm a reluctant drummer—I love playing out, but I hate setup and tear-down more than I like to admit.

I've played a built-up cajon kit, I've created my own vintage-suitcase kit, and I've been using a Tama Pancake Kit for a while now, but I haven't been happy, as I get older and try to downsize the amount of room (and angst) my casual-drummer lifestyle creates in my Autumn Years. So I thought I'd try the Toca KickBoxx Pro, and I'll say this, after just a few days of owning one: this is kit making me smile.

There's some extra hardware that, in my mind, is absolutely crucial to buy. I got three Gibraltar SC-PLRA L-rod attachments, which allow me to tilt the snare and the two toms in a way that I prefer. Call me spoiled, I couldn't get used to the positioning options available on the as-designed KickBoxx.

I'm impressed by the range of usable tuning on these heads. Sometimes I've felt forced, on smaller drums, to use a higher or lower tuning than I want just because the head itself has such a narrow range of sounding okay. Not these, I'm surprised how far I can go for the pitch that I want.

I've also always liked a stacked cymbal set, so I've modified the cymbal stand to take two cymbals. When I've got my hihat positioned right by my KickBoxx, everything feels snug and proper, and I can play comfortably while anticipating a relatively simple tear-down. I'll be using a little folding travel cart I keep around to lug the KickBoxx when everything's tucked inside, because this thing kind of approaches maximum density in terms of weight.

I'll include a photo. You'll see dampeners galore on the heads—that's just me getting that studio-dead sound that I like. You'll also see an LP Blast Block (stuffed with foam) that I've always used for getting a sweet and consistent rimshot sound on smaller snares. What you won't see are the modifiers from Big Fat Snare Drum I like to keep handy so I can quickly change snare sounds between songs. And the Gibraltar hardware add-ons are pretty much all concealed underneath the drums, because space is so tight in my preferred configuration. There's a regular bed pillow inside the box, for getting that short & shallow kick sound I like.

Anyway, that's my take. Nice job, Toca!

Dolly Strongly Recommended.....

By Stephen A. from Yucaipa, CA
Music Background: Drummer

Ok....This thing is heavy as Hell...A dolly-cart is recommended for transport from and to Your Car.

Having said that, This is an awesome portable kit....Sounds good and looks cool...These are going to be very popular with Street Musicians especially !!....Even though it's heavy, I still give it 5-Stars !!

Tons o’ fun!

By Aiden W. from The Highway to the Danger Zone, just off of Abbey Road.
Music Background: Just a dude who loves Prog-rock and Toca Kickboxxes!

All I have to say is, amazing kit! Packing up is a little tricky but not impossible (:

Now DON'T go playing it straight out the box without tuning… or dampening… or putting on different drum heads… or trying out different techniques… or…(you get the idea,) and expecting it to sound amazing. Some say the snare rattles but you can fix it by tuning it and/or simply just playing it

Toca Percussion KickBoxx Pro Suitcase Drum Set - Cobalt Blue

By Gene C. from COVENTRY, RI
Music Background: Advanced beginner

Does not meet expectations. No set up or storage directions or other helpful info available with kit.
Bass kick pedal de-stabilizes the box.
Drums sound terrible. Tin cans and cardboard would sound better.
I didn't expect this bandbox to equal a full drum kit, however,
I've bought $125.00 youth kits with drums sounding as good or better than my kit.
Way over priced for results.
Not recommended at all.
