Cannot believe the tone!
Going from UA Unison preamps to this is such an upgrade. All of my mics sound better and I feel like I need to process tracks less after recording through this. The DI is also incredible for removing unwanted finger picking from bass.
Fantastic Preamp
From clean to saturated, this is one of the nicest sounding preamps and DI boxes you can find. Thanks as always to Sam Hillman at Sweetwater!
Electric Guitar. Woah.
Using this with a Royer121/SM57 setup for my Vox AC15. The tone is so great whether it is clean or dirty. The summing feature blew me away. That might be a feature to buy when comparing this to other two channel preamps that don't have a similar summing feature.
Great Mic Pre
I was looking for a dual Mic Pre that had a vintage vibe with its own unique sound, that wasn't just another Neve clone (saying that will be looking to get a good 1073 clone in the future lol). So far, Ive had it for a couple of months and I have used it on Pop, rock, soca and reggae tracks. I have used it mainly on vocals, guitars, Synths, Bass and trumpet, and I have been quite pleased with the results.
The Di sounds really good and I also enjoy running other instruments (bass, guitars, synths) through a separate Di Box into the Mic pre, to tap into that transformer saturation. I havent used the two channel summing option yet or used it for some transformer saturation on a mix bus but I will be looking forward to messing around with it! It is also a great build quality.
Only con I would say is the lack of metering and a high pass filter. It would've been nice to have these things on it, but its not necessary. I have a feeling it would have brought the cost up significantly more, cuz as it stands you will also have to purchase a separate power supply.
Overall, Its a very rich sounding and versatile pre amp. I love taking Di'd guitars, and running through the mic pre s and pushing the transformers to get this unique distortion sound. And if you werent looking for that kind of vibe, you can dial things back and it still sounds really good. I have owned and used other great Mic pre's and I see this as being the first of many products I would like to get from Chandler Limited. A superb addition to any recording studio.
This preamp is amazing
This preamp has a rich history and it really comes through the tracks. Everything you run through this sounds great and has a wonderful character to it. A bit warm with depth and clarity.
Great preamp. Perhaps the best Yet.
I've used AMS Neve, Heritage, BAE, UA, helios 500 series, API, Shadow Hills, Crane Song, Vintech, Avalon, wunder audio, the list goes on. The point is this preamp has sort of a saturated coloration to it yet it still sort of reminds me of the 1073 clones to some extent. Sure what I said makes no sense at first glance but really I feel like its two preamps in one. In the sense that it covers the 1073 clones, but also has its own particular flavor and way that it goes about recording my sessions. Obviously with crappy microphones, no preamp will do any good. And with poor microphone setup, the preamp is just not being fully utilized. Not quite sure how to describe the overall sound just that well I don't hear "abbey road" on there. Why? B/c i am not Paul, Ringo, John nor George - no matter how close you get to what the "OG's" had back in the 1960's, you'll never repeat that sound unless you're a savant. Of course its not going to sound like the album. Besides I do different genres than what I have heard on abbey road. But its special nonetheless and for what you get the price is not that bad at all. It has a plethora of features I've not seen on most preamps. Its built very well. The research I suspect this company did on this preamp that is before actually making it, was thorough and complete you know - you get the feeling that Chander Limited put a lot of effort into this. Also you have the ole summing option. The gain is probably the only complaint I have. I'd prefer a good 80 dB of gain. Higher headroom. No worries though. I have to turn the gain/output pots up pretty high to get a good clear signal but then again,I am pretty far back from my microphones. If you want something different, unusual, yet truly a classic, go for this preamp.
Pro Top 40 Sound!!
This is a great company and great piece of gear. I never realized how much my sound was missing something before I acquired this piece of gear. Very easy to use and adds a character that just sounds amazing.
A special thanks to Nick Church who helped me with this purchase. If you're thinking about buying this or any other piece of gear Nick is the guy to talk to. Not only was he super knowledgeable on several items I inquired about but he also was not your typical pushy salesman trying to jam a sale down your throat. Great guy, great experience, great piece of gear. I'll definitely be buying from Nick and Sweetwater for all future purchases. You guys rock!
Solid Pre
I bought this preamp because it got great reviews on drums and guitar bass tones. It adds a great colored sound from the source. with the right application you can really drive the input hard to get even a more colored tone from the preamp. Its a great flavor to have in the studio. Extremely happy with my purchase and use it in all my sessions. love it on everything especially metal guitars.
Sick!
Yes, it's wonderful on guitars. Mojo for days. But try it on your plain vanilla microphone (TLM-103, sE Titan) and it's pure caramel. Sweet! An incredible addition to my quiver.
TG2, The dream come true..
The sound of this pre amp is incredible!! Best ever customer service received!! Thank you Wayne Davis.
TG2 : ``T`` rue ``G`` lory ``2`` !!!
I play and record guitar as a pro for 15 years now, and... how difficult it is to translate a rich guitar amp`s tone through the monitors in a studio... But since I got a Chandler TG2 I feel like flying in a higher level. NO MATTER WHAT I record, it sounds good!! The iron bite is unbelievable and the creamy low end always makes me smile!! Abbey Road. Period. Together, the TG2 and my Universal Audio 2-610 give me the best of both Tranny and Tube worlds ever ! And I can live with that! LOL!
I LOVE MY TG2!!!
Just got a TG2 from Sweetwater (thanks Jason Koons!!) It's everything I'd hoped it would be, very creamy and smooth. I used to have to crank up the compression on my UAD 1176 to get that colored sound on my tracks, but with the TG2 I am able to use a lot less processing while mixing. I not kidding, I've found my self just plugging a Bass in the DI and needing no compression to get it to sit in the mix!! Works great with my Mojave Audio MA200, and helps darken up my Rode NT5's a bit. GREAT PRE!!
Solid.
Beautiful vintage, even & sweet sounding pre. Definitely falls into the colored-pre category, not linear or clean. First thing I did when it walked in the door was put a tube condensor-mic'd national dobro through it and into a Slate Dragon compressor - awesome - Just dirty and swampy enough to really give it some mojo. Great punch on percussion sources. Engage the sum switch, back the gain down all the way (+5), and run the stereo mix through it on the master chain - serious mojo, very cool! This one's not going away anytime soon.
