A smorgasbord of essential I/O
Coleman Audio’s TC4 is jam-packed with all the I/O you’d expect from a world-class mastering transfer console. Two balanced stereo inputs enable you to interface with two separate sources. Main and alternate speaker outputs give you plenty of choices for monitoring. You also get four balanced stereo inserts with relay switching to keep its signal path as passive as possible — A/B-ing your effects has never been easier! And while we’re on the topic of passive signal paths, the studio rats here at Sweetwater love the TC4’s 47-position stepped attenuator — it tracks to .05dB, maintaining a rock-solid stereo balance at any level.
A bevy of essential monitoring features
If a world-class mastering transfer console is worth its salt, it needs to include certain features. That said, the TC4 doesn’t disappoint. A Flip switch reverses the order of your first two inserts, enabling you to effortlessly compare the order of your EQ and compressor. A Mono switch gives you left minus right, producing hard left or right signals. Left and Right mute switches isolate your speakers to help you focus on your side channels. A Pre/Post switch compares the original signal with your processed signal, so you know how effective your mastering job has been. An engineer’s headphone output makes checking your mix up close a cinch, while a balanced stereo meter output makes keeping an eye on your levels child’s play.
Passive analog signal path yields crystal-clear audio
The TC4 employs a passive signal path wherever possible. And why is that? Simply put, active circuits almost always degrade any signal that pass through them. They introduce noise, phase shifts, distortion, and a whole host of artifacts that can affect the accuracy of your signal. And if you can’t hear it, how are you supposed to master it? The TC4’s clean signal path enables every nuance of your music to shine through.
