Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter Reviews
Connect your Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 devices using Mini DisplayPort connectors to a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) port using the Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter. At Sweetwater, we've found it easy to use our existing external hard drives and Thunderbolt displays with USB-C port-equipped MacBook Pros, thanks to the Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter. And if you're running macOS Sierra or later, you can also connect Thunderbolt 3 devices to a Mac with a Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2 port. This adapter doesn't add USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 capabilities to a machine that isn't already equipped with them.

Best professional cable / adapter
Great quality, sturdy and long lasting.
Best Apple Product
By far the pinnacle of Apple engineering excellence. Strongly recommended.
Worked Fine
Worked fine. No problem. I was trying to go from a firewire device to a MacBook Pro with USB-C/ Thunderbolt 3 ports. Used this product along with a Firewire to Thunderbolt 2 adapter, and was able to make the connection I needed.
Thunderbolt ≠ MiniDisplay Port. They are different technologies
Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 are NOT MiniDisplayPort, and should not be listed as such in the description of this item.
This item is fine. I'm going to buy it, because i want to transfer data from a Thunderbolt 3 SSD to a MacBook Pro 2015, with Thunderbolt 2 speeds.
Just so everyone is aware. This is SO confusing for many ppl all over the internet who didn't want to buy the lame new Macbook Pros. 2015 model 4ever.
Works great so far! Perfect for converting to older MacBook Pro
Had this for a week or so and have been using it with my new Apollo Twin X Duo to connect to my MacBook Pro from 2015 that has a Thunderbolt 2 port. Had to also get the Thunderbolt 2 cable because the adapter needs to plug in to the Apollo. So the set up is Apollo X to Thunderbolt 3 to 2 adapter to Thunderbolt 2 cable to MacBook Pro Thunderbolt 2 port.
Works great.
UAD approved
As stated by Universal Audio customer support if you need to connect a newer Thunderbolt 3 device with a Thunderbolt 2 system these works perfectly.
Excellent
Don't hesitate to buy this to hook up to your Mac computer. It works.
Mac Thunderbolt 2 to 3 adapter
I have an old RME Fireface Firewire 800 interface and the adapter works flawlessly with my new iMac. I'm using 2 adapters going from Firewire to thunderbolt 2 then from T2 to T3. ...better than buying a new $1500 digital interface.
Get this if you have an older iMac and need USB-C
I wanted to upgrade my audio interface from a Focusrite 18i8 to an Apollo x6 (Thunderbolt).
I have an older iMac (Thunderbolt 2) that would not work with an Apollo x6, UNLESS, I got this adapter.
It worked like a charm.
At the suggestion of my incredible Sales Engineer, Ben Robinson, I bought this Adapter and a Thunderbolt 2 cable. I put the Thunderbolt 2 cable from my iMac into the Adapter, then the Adapter with its Thunderbolt 3 connection into the Apollo x6.
It works like a charm.
The Apollo x6 will not work with a PC unless it has Thunderbolt 3 built into it, but it sure worked great with my older iMac and I did not have to pay out another $3,000 to upgrade my computer.
Thanks, Ben, for this excellent solution!
Cheers!
Late 2013 Compatible
Thunderbolt 3 stepped down to Thunderbolt 2. It works.
It works
Yep. It works. Exspensive but that"s apple for ya
Apple TB3-TB2 adapter
Fast transmission of information from my Apollo x6 to my Mac Pro late 2013 is amazing.
It works!
No issues. Performs as expected.
tb 3-2 adapter
IT WORKS...had a TB2 card on my asus windows 10 machine, never worked right. Upgraded to TB3 pci card, connected this adapter to my clarette 8prex and no issues
It works!!!
I finally bit the bullet and purchased a used Focusrite Clarett 8pre and was worried that I might have a problem with the thunderbolt connection since I am a PC user. Focusrite suggests this adapter in general, but gives no guarantee. I built my studio PC around a Gigabyte GA-Z270X-Gaming 7 motherboard a while back because it had a thunderbolt 3 port. I connected this adapter to my PC TB3 port and connected the Clarett 8pre to this adapter with a TB2 cable and BAM, it was detected right away.
Works great.
Why anybody would buy the more expensive and bulky StarTech monstrosity is beyond me. For my purposes (adapting a Thunderbolt 2 audio interface for use with my Thunderbolt 3 iMac), it is issue-free. Apparently some people have issues with using it with Thunderbolt 3 displays in multiple monitor setups, so be aware. And dinging this thing on price is a little petty... this isn't just a conductor-to-conductor adapter. It requires IC's to alter packet formatting, and at a very high rate of throughput, I might add. Not too bad.
Apple Thunderbolt 3 Adapter
Certain a must have product for connecting your "Thunderbolt" devices to you computer using a "Thunderbolt" line.
Product works great and much faster connection speed than standard USB connection(s)
Worked for UA Apollo MKII
The previous review encouraged me to try it after a ITD Itanda mini display adapter caused my MKII to completely shut off the moment the thunderbolt 2 was plugged into it even though it turned on fine with the power source . It works perfect with this adapter and thank god my MKII isn"t broken!
Works as Expect, which is great.
While all Thunderbolt cables and adapters seem over priced, at least these work without issue, which make them worth the price. I bought two to add a Apollo 6X into my otherwise TB2 setup. Everything functions as expected and without any communication bottlenecks or errors. While I am not crazy about the 'dongle' aspect, it made the set up easy enough to over-look the added bulk in the line.
Solution for 2016 MBP + Apollo Twin Quad
I have a 2016 MacBook Pro with four USB-C ports and use this adapter to connect an Apollo Twin Quad to it per recommendation from Ryan Murray, Sweetwater sales engineer extraordinaire. It's a little pricey for an adapter, but it's worked seamlessly for the better part of two months now. I recommend it with confidence.
It doesn't work with Mid 2015 computer
My experience is that it doesn't work with MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015). Maybe it was my fault, but you have to be sure before buying it
