Boss Waza Tube Amp Expander Core Reviews

100W Amplifier Attenuator and Cabinet Emulator with Reactive Load, Air Feel, Mix Assist, IR Loader, Stereo FX, and USB Output

There’s only so much you can do with your tube amplifier in a low-volume environment — unless you have a BOSS Waza Tube Amp Expander Core. The Core leverages BOSS Tube Logic-driven attenuation and cutting-edge cabinet emulation to give you no-holds-barred access to your tube amp’s full sonic potential. Furthermore, a selectable Reactive Load control ensures natural amp-like performance with combos and full-blown stacks alike. The Core houses 32 cabinet emulations, including Celestion Digital impulse responses, along with 64 user IR slots, five selectable mic types, and a well-stocked arsenal of premium stereo effects. Moreover, you get 10 recallable Rig settings for storing your favorite patches. Mix Assist and Air Feel functions are on hand to help you dial in your overall sound, which you can then output over USB or stereo Line Out jacks for recording. Integrating your pedals and outboard gear is no problem for the Core, thanks to its flexible external effects loop, and you can use the To Speaker output to incorporate real-world cabinets into your setup. You also get a Phones output for silent practice sessions. Complete with intuitive software editing and IR loading, the Waza Tube Amp Expander Core enables players to unlock the full might of their amplifiers with zero worries about noise compliance.

It's a great unit!

By Franklin S. from Tampa Bay, Florida
Music Background: Pro

This is a great unit for playing at home. It sounds good and the internal effects are decent, plus it adds an effects loop to amps that don't have one - plexi guys I'm talkin to you

Great Product

By Ben from So Cal

Love the sound with my Deluxe and Magnatone. So many options, very fun to mess around with. Used it at a club gig with my Twilighter and 2 12 cab at 12:00 and could have low volume. Really great sound.
Hardware very difficult to upload, the manuel isn't updated or correct. Sweetwater service was awesome helping me...

My big question. Can you just use the attenuator function without adding any of the options? Would I just use a rig setting without editing it?

Great sounds, Not intuitive

By Bill from Boston

I've been looking to finally do some recording with my tube amps. Like most of us, cranking them up to get "the sound" is not an option at home. I've looked at several devices like this. I have the Boss Waza headphones and love them, so I decided to go the Boss direction. The UA OX was more than I really wanted to spend. I confess that I've had some setup issues. Connecting to my combo amp wasn't really a problem other than finding the right cables. Getting an iPad or a Mac laptop to talk with it was more of a challenge. After a night of scratching my head, I called Sweetwater tech support. They got me connect in a reasonable amount of time. USB drivers issue was the problem. Now I'm up and running. I love being able to add reverb and delay and compression to the mix. It sounds produced, like a record. Turns my Deluxe Reverb into a new amp. You can literally fine tune the sound of you amp on the back end, like the sound of your amp tweaked at the console. Get the amp sound you want, then add some ambience, reverb, delay, and compression, or whatever works for you. I'd easily give this the full 5 stars if the setup was a bit smoother. Great job Boss. The sound is stellar, but make it simpler and make the manual more complete. Can't wait to try on my Friedman and Tone King Imperial.

Beef up a tele

By Reid D. from La Honda,ca.
Music Background: Folk musician, songwriter, The Mark Reid Band

This unit is a good attempt at beefing up the tone of a Mexican tele. The hotter pickups of the Les Paul is another question. I'm not sure if it's a studio or live unit, but I'll need to get out of my living room to find out. Makes the tele so good. Probably makes most fenders sound fuller.
