ADAM Audio T8V 8-inch Powered Studio Monitor Reviews

Active Vertical 2-way Nearfield Monitor with 70W 8" Woofer and 20W U-ART Accelerated-Ribbon Tweeter

As the flagship of the T Series, ADAM Audio’s line of professional 2-way active studio monitors, the T8V features an 8-inch polypropylene low-frequency driver that delivers bass extension down to an impressive 39Hz, while the company’s U-ART accelerated-ribbon tweeter provides pristine highs extended up to 25kHz — quite remarkable for a monitor in this price range. The tweeter’s broad, uniform dispersion pattern is assisted by a precision waveguide modeled on the High Frequency Propagation (HPS) waveguide used in ADAM’s premium S Series studio monitors, which provides an impressively wide sweet spot that liberates you from being constrained to a rigid listening position.

great monitors for the price.

By dan w. from NORTH PORT, FL
Music Background: song writer,performer,producer,

They are clean and punchy without the mud that usually accompany speakers at and below this price range. Have had these speakers for 5 years to the day and they have not stopped impressing me. Every genre of music by every artist including a range from Beethoven to Jimi Hendrix comes through loud and clear. And yes I listen to that wider range of music :-).

Beware they are a bit heavy and a vibration dampener underneath each speaker would be suggested.

I would love to have gotten a 12-in version of these speakers had I the bankroll for it.

Awesome tone!

By Terry
Music Background: $3 dollar guitar player

Ordered from the recommendation from JD my Sweetwater guy! Told him my concerns/complaints and we went back and forth talking. He stated he also had these same monitors and had wonderful guitar response tones. I had been struggling with FRFR speakers for months trying to get a "real tone" from amps, modelers, etc. These pair excellent with my Helix floor and array of guitars. Definitely worth the buy! Thanks again JD!

Nearfield Nirvana

By Dennis A. from Shawnee, Kansas
Music Background: Lifelong music lover

I purchased a pair of the Adam Audio T8V 8-inch monitors a little over a year ago. I am using them in a nearfield setup in my desktop system. I am a lifelong audiophile. My goal was to get the biggest bang for my buck to achieve a true high-end sound - linearity, dynamics, full frequency range, and serious imaging and dimensionality. I remodeled my art studio downstairs with sound in mind, it's a nice symmetrical space with heavy acoustic damping in the walls and ceiling - and some homemade bass corner traps.
I am using a Dell PC, Topping DX 5 DAC/Pre, Audiocadabra digital cable, Anti-Cable RCA's - augmented by an SVS SB 1000 Pro sub. I run Tidal at highest res settings.
The Adam Audio monitors have a wonderful clear, extended high end with excellent dispersion. The 8 inch woofers dig deep and are beautifully mated to the U Art tweeter. Most people would be happy with no subwoofer - the monitors are capable of serious bass - tight, articulate bass. Imaging is exceptional - with that amazing bloom that literally can send a great recording flying up and through the roof - super 3-D!
Perhaps my favorite standout characteristic of the monitors is the sense of effortlessness - even at serious volume levels. I have never felt like they are straining or breaking up.

The Adam Audio T8v's have exceeded all expectations, delivering a headphone-like experience with incredible slam.
I did a lot of research before my purchase, and I believe they are a stone-cold bargain.

GREAT MONITORS, GREAT BUY

By José A. from MIAMI, FL
Music Background: Piano, Keyboard, Producer, Arrenger

I've always considered ADAM a respectable brand but had never had the opportunity to purchase their products. Not long ago, I needed to replace my nearfield monitors, and a friend recommended them to me. I spoke with my sales representative, and he said it was well worth a try.

I couldn't be happier with my monitors. They're simply excellent.

Don't hesitate. You won't regret it, and you'll have a new favorite.

These are fantastic.

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Home studio, local musician, metal and electronic music

Coming from KRK Rokit 5 Gen 3, I was constantly boosting the low end in my mixes only to later find out that there was way too much bass, as I was compensating by boosting it to hear it on those speakers. I played these for 8 hours to break then in, and immediately after opening an old mix I had not remixed with headphones, I could hear the low end was much too high. I'm mixing in a small studio, and financially I had to decide between adding a sub to my KRK's, or trying these out, I am very pleased with the clarity of these speakers overall. Clear and massive improvement over my previous speakers. The ribbon speaker really punches above it's weight class.

They work very well

By Jeremy S. from Rockford, IL

There's absolutely everything you need in a great set of monitors. Unless you're mixing for film and and a live orchestra, you cannot go wrong with these. Translation from studio to car (if You test out your mixes that way) are spot on.

221 Studios Long Island NY

By Neil G. from Long Island, NY
Music Background: Educated classical French horn, jazz based guitar, piano, bass, songwriter and composer. Playing since I was 8 and now in my 60's.

Love these new speakers. They are being used in a home studio set up for songwriting and composition for media. I used Event 20/20's for a long time and these were recommended by grammy award winning engineers as the best value for the money. In fact, when listened against much more expensive speakers, there is little difference for what I need them for. Loving these and would recommend them in a heartbeat. NG 11.5.24

Adam T8V

By Suitcase B. from Sandusky, Ohio
Music Background: Composer

Wow! Sounds great. I thought these sounded a little more open in the upper frequencies than the Yamaha's. Really brought my mixes to the front hearing things I had missed on my Audio Technica ATH-50M headphones. The bass is awesome!!!! Fills the room without being muddy. Very clean sound. Very happy!

Couldn't be happier

By Jonathon M.
Music Background: Drums for 18 years, keyboard for 13, guitar for 7, aspiring studio operator

I spent literal MONTHS looking at different monitors to upgrade from my KRK Rokit5 G3s. I have a small 130sq. ft. studio space that made it hard to have a drum kit, studio desk, monitors, computer, and subwoofer all in one space; I decided to ixnay the sub since I didn't have good room placement, and upgrade to 8" monitors to get some of that bass response I wasn't getting out of my 5". It was very very very close between these and the RCF AYRA PRO 8's. But every sound test I found always pointed to the T8V having a more naturally flat response with the help of the ribbon tweeter. Ultimately went with these, got around to finally recording with them and I gotta say that I was more surprised that I was expecting once I got it dialed in to the room. My mixes have never sounded better! They're more neutral, rounded, and have helped me really surgically get my mix where I have been trying to get for years. I'd recommend these to anyone looking to upgrade from a smaller size or older set that just isn't quite getting the job done anymore. Plus for the price you can't get much better!

Crisp high end, With tight punchy lows, very natural sounding and I absolute love it.
Shipping those monitors cost me a lot internationally almost 400USD plus the price of the monitors $ and I would say the are worth every singly penny I have paid.

Just a Great Speaker

By Dale from Duncanville, Texas
Music Background: Writer, Producer, Player, Donator of my paychecks to Sweetwater :)

When I first turned these on, I could not critically listen to the midrange and highs, because the bass out of these was so impressive! Tight, not muddy, and lots of it. Does not need a sub. Believe the specs! When I got to the mids and highs, I noticed that the whole sound was just emitting from the mix, and not the speakers. I did not noticed the speakers, just the sound. You really notice where each instrument is placed, and hear it clearly, just like the mix engineer intended. I replaced my 8" monitors of a name that sounds like Backie Home Run 8's, and it was not even a competition. Love these "Entry Level" Adams, and now I wonder what their 5, 10, or 20 thousand dollar speakers sound like!

ADAM T8V

By Rob from SE USA
Music Background: Hobbyist

Just an honest review... two factors that are very important to me, come into play with regards to studio monitors: sound quality and cost. The T8V met both ~ "sound quality & cost". Sweetwater provided this product at a very 'budget friendly' price, and I'm a happy camper!

Well worth it

By Sweetwater Customer from Nc
Music Background: Guitarist, and Logic Pro is my daw.

I got a pair about a year ago. Before getting adams audio t8vs I tried a few other monitors out, and the t8vs are perfect. The price, the frequency going low enough to mix heavy bass stuff. The tweeter is also great for the highs. I don't think there is another monitor that compares to these in this price range. I had one issue when turning them up, and they sent me a new replacement very quick. Couldn't ask for a better company.

High end surround sound on a budget

By Rod
Music Background: Professional stereo mixing & mastering for 35+ years

I've been using a pair of Genelec 1031s in midfield position, plus a 1092 sub. I've trusted this system to give me translatable mixes for over 25 years, but it's only stereo and I've wanted to try Dolby Atmos surround mixing for a long time. However, a full blown 7.1.4 Genelec sysyem of comparable quality is way beyond my budget. So the T8Vs gave me an opportunity to satisfy my curiousity as to what these Adams could do with their ribbon tweeter technology. Since they have a ported 8" LF driver like my Genelecs, I figured they could have comparable low end response. Although I thought the T8Vs could be a good second set of monitors for ABing mixes at a fraction of the price of my 1031s, I didn't expect them to hold their own against them. Boy was I wrong about that! Not only was the overall sound much closer to the Gens than I had imagined, I was surprised by the lack of harshness and the improved spatial imaging. Another surprise was that they made the use of my sub optional. Overall, I was so impressed that I'm going to use them as main stereo monitors after calibrating them with my Dirac room calibration software. I also bought 5 more T8Vs plus 4 T5Vs for Dolby Atmos 7.1.4 music monitoring. For those of us without major label budgets, there's no reason to forego the incredible world of immersive audio when the T8Vs are so good and affordable. A special shout out to Caleb Lowry, my sales engineer. He bent over backwards to help make this dream a reality. Thanks Caleb!

Adam T8V

By john c. from WI
Music Background: B.A. in Music with 57 years playing guitar and 40 years in recording

The Adam T8V is the largest of the 3 smaller (and much less expensive) siblings in the the Adam monitor line. The ribbon-type

tweeter has a larger surface area than a conventional domed tweeter and is much more forgiving in the vertical axis, giving

the listener a larger sweet spot. I have found Adam monitors are not prone to coloration, but rather give the engineer a more

accurate if less spectacular sound. Realism is exceptional in itself and will produce exceptional mixes. This is not to say

the sound is not beautiful. The transparency and depth of field of the tweeter, and the speaker in general is a wonder to

behold. The built in amps are terrific and I heartily recommended the T8V. A professional monitor at a surprisingly low cost.

Fantastic sound, fantastic value

By Nick from Colorado

I recently had a pair of M-Audio BX8 speakers die. Well only one of the pair died. But paying to have them serviced, plus the cost of shipping, was getting close to the cost of a pair of new monitors, so I decided to pull the trigger on a new set. I work in a fairly small room - about 12 x 14 feet - but it's covered wall to wall in bass traps from GIK Acoustics (probably the best investment I've ever made in the studio, bar none).

After looking around a lot, I settled on either plunking down a LOT of cash on some Genelec One series, or saving a lot of money and trying out the "budget" option in Adam T8V. I was not disappointed. I love the high-end these produce. Coupled with a scan using REW (Room EQ Wizard) and corrections from the Behringer Ultra-Curve Pro, I'm able to really dial in the sound of the room, eliminating any major spikes or dips in frequency response, then shaping the overall sound to taste (I prefer a little bit of the classic smily-face EQ shape. The resulting sound is consistent, non-fatiguing, and accurate (other than my minor overall adjustments).

Highly recommended, although I can't stress enough, BEFORE you plunk down your hard-earned cash on fancy new monitors, invest in some room treatment (I'm not talking about Auralex, I mean something that's 4 to 6 inches thick of pure Rockwool. I use GIK panels, which are awesome. And learn how to use a room measurement/correction software like the lovely freeware REW.

Love my new Adam’s

By Akaozzy

Definitely the highest priced monitors I've paid for and I love them, the sound is so 3D and the low end really starts knocking. Only thing with these is, in the beginning when I was listening to music I noticed one of my monitors was slightly louder than the other, long story short the plastic gain knob on one of the monitors was not indexed the same as the other. So I pulled it off, made sure they were all the way up and installed the plastic knobs back on so I knew they were in the same spot. Other than that great purchase and do recommend.

Very happy!

By Ben E. from Tacoma, WA
Music Background: Musician/producer

So looking atvthe Adams, Yamaha and KRK as best choices in price I got the Adams because multiple reviews/vids gave these highest marks fir true studio soundvwhilst still delivering the fun bass. In fact highs/mids/lows are just really clear and feel true in my space I decided not to get the 10"sub woofer as I have more than enough bass in just the monitors. Adam Audio is a serious team and I look forward to upgraded to their top line in a couple years.
Warning, these monitors are BEASTS!! I had to order the next size up on Iso pads. They must weigh 10lbs each and are the biggest of all my choices.
Super happy!

My first ADAM Audio monitors, and they won't be my last.

By Paul D. from Austin, TX
Music Background: Former trombonist, turned audiophile and studio gear enthusiast.

I was set on Dynaudio LYD monitors, until I had a chance to demo the T8Vs. The T8V monitors punch way above their price point. I was a musician in my youth. Even though I don't play anymore, I still enjoy the clean, transparent sound production that studio monitors provide. The AMT tweeters are excellent. Crisp and clean, without being bright. I was hesitant about buying a 2-way speaker, but the seamless blending of the woofer, and tweeter sold me. The low frequency response is excellent, tight, and not boomy. My next upgrade will be the ADAM Audio A8X.

Best in the Industry

By Aaron from GA
Music Background: music production

As a producer I have the opportunity to visit a lot of studios, control rooms, and other various music environments. I have edited music using Focal, Genelec, Yamaha, KRK, Bose, and many others for reference purposes. Allow me to say that ADAM Audio has nailed everything needed in the T8V. These monitors can easily compete with products that triple in price. Every range of music is set perfectly in place and allows for an ease in editing and mixing.

I own several monitors in different brands to A/B to. The TV8 has just become my primary reference for the work I do.

Pretty good!

By David K. from TN
Music Background: Audio Engineer/Drummer

I got these in Oct of 2020 for my office mixing space. I then proceeded to treat my room, I was skeptical buying Adams because I never loved the "Adam sound". I loved them at first and still think they are really good. They just aren't for me. The high end is super hyped, the mid range, arguably the most important part of music is very scooped and feels under hyped. Low end is good though. Sending mine back after owning them to try out Kali's.

I think the TV8's would be perfect as a secondary, "fun set" of monitors" to crank up for the client. Sounds amazing but aren't super detailed but they always sound really good.

Side Note: At my home studio I have APS monitors and they aren't a ton more than these are but they are my favorite "budget monitors" (they cost about 1.2k).

I want something more in that vain. Hopefully the Kali's will deliver.

Absolute Beasts - Be Warned

By Stacey G. from Portland, Maine
Music Background: Hobbyist Composer and Part-time Voice-over Actor

These are terrific monitor speakers, but be warned: they are huge, loud, and full. They will absolutely show you the errors in your mixes, and they are unapologetic and ruthless. I can't even believe the quality for the price, as they are clear and loud and neutral. In terms of size, I was honestly unprepared: these speakers are monstrous. I mean they are really, really large. Look at them next to my Yamaha HS5's. You can fit three Yamaha's in the volume of the Adam's. Make sure you have space -- and a large enough room -- so you don't cause bleeding eardrums! Note that the bass response goes very low, meaning that you will hear sub woofer-type bass in your music/mixes. Again, I was unprepared for the full, rich, deep low end this monitor delivers. If you're coming from smaller, home studio monitors, these will take some getting used to; however, they will ultimately help you in making mixing decisions, and are even great for listening to 'commercial' music. Definitely give these speakers a look if you're in the market.

I've mixed on the A7X several times. That was what I was going to purchase but, thought I'd try these out. Great price point, and really good monitors. I remixed some live remote mixes I'd done for a couple bands. Wow, imho I think my mixes translate better with these than the dynaudios I have. If you need a really good clean monitor with very good low end on it. These will do it in spades.

ADAM T8V Nice Low end without losing the mids.

By gary H. from St. Louis MO.

I'm working in a professionally treated mixing room now. I was a little concerned the 8's would be to boomy compared to the T7V. So far the T8Vs have worked great. My mixes are translating well, nice detail in the mids where you need it. Good control on the low end. Best bang for the buck monitor I've come across.
