Takamine began as a small, family-owned classical guitar workshop at the foothill of Takamine Mountain in Sakashita, Japan. Their reputation grew, and in 1968 the now-legendary Mass Hirade joined the company to help design and build guitars. In 1975, Hirade started an international trading business and began selling Takamine guitars worldwide. Since then, Takamine guitars have become one of the most-played guitars in the world, from country bands to singer/songwriters to major session guitarists.
