Best in the market

By Edwin from Texas
Music Background: Home studio, worship musician

When you lift this stand you wouldn't believe how heavy it is. That makes it stable in any position. It has so many options and attachments. Not cheap but worth the cost.

not impressed

By Jose E. from Pearland, TX

I bought one of this and did everything what their product video showed what it can do. Installed the ff;
1.dual arm, using the 10-C Clamp
2.IO Quick change Base to connect the Orbit Boom art to connect my IO Desk platform
3.SS-IOGC IO to connect my guitar IO-SS1
4IO-C Clamp to connect my IO-A1A then finally my mic and two more.
the problem is no matter how you tighten the mic stand it always slide down. I spent that much only to see the T2 stand sliding down, I have never used this stand and been sitting in my room since then .I have been using an ordinary On stage mic stand using the orbit adaptor i am much able to use the rest of their hardware.

They just stand there…

By Markham W. from Georgia

How boring! I buy a stand and it won't slip and change positions at the most in opportune times. I own six or more K&M stands and they are fine for light duty but Triad-Orbit are serious stands. If want to stop being frustrated every time your stand falls out of position, you are ready for Triad-Orbit. The best!

Awesome Mic Stand

By StevenEddy from Texas

Not a cheapo mic stand that strips threads, sticks, bends and breaks at the wrong time.
These stands are rugged, heavy, well engineered, and reliable - worth every penny.

These stands will save you money - you only buy them once - they will outlast ten cheapo stands -% especially if you are gigging.

Just do it - buy it now!

Yes, Virginia, it IS just a Mic Stand, But...

By Magilla66 from NorCal
Music Background: Making musical grimaces since 1966

If anyone gave these stands less than 5 stars, it's likely because they're not cheap. In fact, for the price of just one of these (no boom arm), you could probably buy 4 or 5 (maybe more?) mass-produced cheapo stands with boom arms and mic clips. However, that's the exact problem with the cheapo stands; they do the job, but range from "just okay" to terrible:

Cheapo stands:
- Height adjustment via tripod legs: No
- Multi-angle, multi-position tripod legs: No
- Quick-change of pole height: Sometimes; it depends on the brand
- Quick-change attachments: No
- Stability of stand: Varies by brand, design; typically on level, flat surfaces only
- Stability of attachment points: Varies by brand, design; typically poor, need constant adjustments/tightening

Triad T2 stands:
- Yes to all of the above, and then some

Yes, the price does make you gasp and second-guess yourself on putting one in your cart and pushing Order Now! I've put one in and took it out of my cart at least 5 times in the past year. Finally decided to buy one when they came back in stock this week. Could not be happier with this mic stand unless they sent me a free travel bag for it!

Thanks to Chris Ishak for being "The Man"; appreciate all the help with finding the right gear!

Sexy

By Sweetwater Customer

This is one sexy mic stand: You would not think a utilitarian object could be but, it functions well, looks good. I guess that is all one can ask for.

Awesome stand

By Trafton H. from Nashville
Music Background: Staff songwriter, Producer, Audio Engineer

I have a tube microphone that is unbelievably heavy. I’ve gone through three heavy duty mic stands and none of them could handle the weight. Then I bought the Triad Orbit. I swear this stand could hold up a house, that’s a small exaggeration but it’s built like a tank. When compared to other mic stands it’s a little pricey but well worth every penny. I’d advise anyone who needs a quality stand to try these out. Also, a huge thanks to Carson McClain for recommending it and the one day shipping that saved a vocal session I had scheduled.

I'll never buy another brand of mic stand

By Ganthet

I was sick of boom arms that would gradually lose position and mic stands that just wobbled everywhere. So, I just invested in several Triad-Orbit pieces of gear, including the tripod, weighted boom arm, extension, iPad stand and several connectors. WOW! This stuff is solid and built to last. The tripod is built like a tank and there are so many nice construction and design details that make me confident that it will last.

As an example, I was impressed that the rubber feet themselves are not simply glued on but are connected with an adjustable nut (hex key) that would make replacement easy. Every aspect of the stand is constructed for stability and durability. I like how the main shaft has a small nipple that you lock into place in addition to the torque that the heavy duty clutch mechanism. Does it need the little nipple? Nope. Is it nice that they built that in for extra stability anyway? You bet!

The real seller for me was the quick change connectors that allow me to swap my various mic shock mounts on any stand in my studio in about 3 seconds. I love the wall/desk mount bases that I can just walk over to any point in the studio and snap my mic into.

I am trashing all my other mic stands and going Triad-Orbit for my whole studio.

Everything is Great, BUT....

By Sweetwater Customer

Our studio purchased three Triads. Within a year and a half, we no longer use any of them.

So... The Good:

1. Amazing weight and stability! The "trust factor" when using our expensive mics was off-the-charts!

2. Amazingly adjustable! In fact, they are so adjustable, that the first few times we used them, they're a bit clumsy. But once we got the feel for each adjustment... absolute heaven!!

Okay... The Bad:

1. Price. Yes... a great mic stand will (should?) be more expensive than the standard crap-tacular "Blue-Light Special" mic stands. However, along with the heafty price these stands carry, one should expect a long, reliable service ("hint" as to why we no longer use our Triads).

2. Proprietary, proprietary, proprietary! Understandably so, when you want to create a great mic stand, you'll probably need re-think some of the parts. However, in many cases, there's absolutely no reason at all not to use some of the "set-in-stone" standard-threading connections between stands and booms. So, when the proprietary parts fail (as they all have), the only choice is to purchase expensive, proprietary replacement parts.... Which are the EXACT same make/quality of the failed parts. Thus, these replacements are doomed to fail in the exact same manner....

3. Finally, the reason for such a low rating: Every orbital head/pivot on the Triads failed over the course of a year. Worse: The replacement parts failed in the exact same manner: The clutch-shims wear out FAR to quickly! So, when the clutch wears out, the boom can't hold any mic in place. Also, as the shims slowly wear out, the natural tendency is to tighten the clutch knob tighter and tighter, to the point the threads will give out. The "fix" is to make sure you have a bunch of the shims on hand... and to have a spare 20 - 30 minutes to install the shims... PRIOR to an important session. Also, because these are proprietary systems, we cannot attach a "standard" boom to a Triad base.

So, after replacing all of the shims multiple times, and even replacing one of the heads (because the threads gave out), we decided "enough was enough": Our Triads have simply become super-expensive, eye-candy paper-weights. Pretty darn sad.

Triads are a great idea... with a major Achilles Heal built into them. Bummer...

Not as good as I would expect for the money

By Phil B. from Louisville

This is not only the heaviest stand of it's kind that I've ever purchased but it's also the most expensive...

I knew as soon as I felt the way the clutch tightened that it didn't grab as securely as some other stands that I have. For the first several weeks, I used it with smaller more light weight mics and it seemed to be fine. Later I put up a U87 with a pop screen and could not tighten the clutch enough with one hand to keep the tube from slipping down. So I end up having to use two hands and tighten it as hard as I can, sometimes to the point of hurting my hands. At times it still couldn't hold up the weight of the boom, mic, shock mount, and wind-screen. It's quite embarrassing for a client to say "this mic fell again". The clutches on the boom are made the same way and don't hold much better but aren't much of an issue because they aren't holding as much weight vertically.

So I contact the manufacturer explaining the problem and their first response was "you must hold the lower tube steady with one hand while you tighten the clutch above it with the other hand." I explained that I was already doing that and was even feeling the need to get a pair of channel locks to be sure it don't slip. I was hoping they would simply offer some replacement parts to correct the problem but have required the stand be sent back to them so they could see it for themselves.

In order to send this stand back to the manufacturer, I purchased another stand... that holds up the U87 with no problems and without excessive tightening.

Purchased as part of the RF Space Studio Kit

By Jim H. from Carlsbad, CA
Music Background: Advanced Beginner guitar player with a home recording studio

When I purchased the sE Space Reflexion Shield, my Sales Engineer, Ben Robinson, suggested that I purchase the $549 bundle (RF Space Studio Kit). The kit included the Triad-Orbit T2 Tripod, Mogami gold cable, and sE Mic Pop Shield.
I had just purchased the incredible Lauten Atlantis Large-Diaphragm Condenser Microphone ($1,500) but I needed a small voice recording environment to go along with it.
When I looked at the price of the Triad-Orbit T2 tripod, I could not believe how expensive it was.
I told Ben I already had an "On Stage" microphone stand that should be able to accommodate everything.
Ben simply asked me, "How much does the On Stage stand weigh?" I didn't know.
"About 5-6 pounds. Do you really wanna put a $1,500 microphone, the sE Space Reflexion Shield, and everything else that probably weighs 10 pounds on a stand that only weighs 5?"
I bought the bundle. Great investment. This thing weighs 22 pounds and is built like a tank. Great engineering design. It is well worth the investment to keep your expensive equipment from crashing to the floor.

Great Customer Service and Support

By Bob C. from Estero, FL

Triad Orbit folks have been great in resolving the problem I have. Their communication, concern and willingness to make their product work for me is outstanding. The product is unique, and offers many advantages, and one of the most important is their willingness to engage to solve a problem.

Almost Great

By Bob C.

I've owned this stand, boom and various adapters for over two years. In that time I've used it on probably 50 or more gigs. I really wanted to like it, but it has been hard. First, the ball head stopped tightening down. Manufacturer sent shims and a video teaching me how to fix it. Ultimately sent a new ball and socket assembly. Now, the quick release that mounts the boom to the stand is failing. If I pick It up by the boom, the stand falls off. Maybe my expectations, for a very expensive stand to be reliable, including using on live shows, are not reasonable. But if the target is studio use, where loading and unloading aren't issues, they should have told me. The concept is great; execution not so much.

Best mic stand ever! I play with an iPad on my stand and have to be careful with balancing my stand but the heavy base on this stand really allows me to do what I need to do.

Great Stand

Good weight, stable, very adjustable and very well made. Highly recommend this stand. I bought it with a medium boom and adapter for a 1.5 pound microphone (NT 2000). Solid, worth the price.

Best Home Studio Mike Stand

By Steve B. from Prattville, AL
Music Background: Play guitar and have been doing home studio recording since 2005. Still consider myself a novice.

This is the best home studio mic stand I have seen. The quick connect feature is a great idea. I bought extra mic adapters so I can quickly change out mics. This is much heavier duty than what the pictures indicate, I was surprised by how heavy it was when I got it. My heaviest microphone is a Rode NT2000, it will almost make the normal stands fold up like an accordion. The Triad Orbit stands strong and could hold two of these mics. As I said it is heavy and very stable. The locking mechanisms are rock solid and easy to tighten and loosen. The design is very innovative, practical and most important functional. They are expensive but worth every penny. I will get more of these stands.

Triad Stand

By Ian B. from Leeds, ME

This Triad stuff is the ruggedest stands going, as I have killed numerous cheap stands over the last couple decades.
That being said I was gonna send it back, as this is not your toss-it-up-in-the-air-and-do-back-flips-off the drum riser type of stand. Simply put, it's Heavy.... a little more than 12 pounds.
I have found that this stand is really good for unstable stages, back-yard weddings in the grass, Boat gigs, and the whole drunks falling into the stage environment.
The articulating legs allow singing instrumentalist to angle this to left, right, or toward you.. allowing this to double as a pseudo boom stand.
I'd love to talk to the folks at Triad about designing a light-weight carbon fiber Frontman version of this to facilitate Bon Jovi base spins, Steven Tyler toss and pulls, and the ever popular David Lee 360* kick spins.

Tanklike Stand

By Erik from Charlotte

Unbelievably heavy/sturdy stand, with the boom arm and quick change mounts it is my go to stand for any difficult to reach place. I was stunned by how well crafted it is made and how tight the choke/brakes are once set. This stand doesn't move once placed. I don't think I would recommend it for live shows as it is very heavy with the boom it is nearly 20lbs.

Rock Solid, Stable, and Quick Adjusting

By RJ B. from Michigan
Music Background: Bluegrass Musician

I purchased this stand to use with the O2x Dual Boom in my personal studio. This is the highest quality, stable, and most adjustable stand that I have ever used. Together with the O2x Dual Boom, the T2 stand is unbeatable for its convenience and adjustability. It doesn't get any better than this!

Very pleased...very sturdy...very adjustable

By Stephen D.

I am very pleased with these mic stands, so pleased that I am now the happy owner of 4 of them. I went to the local chain music store and purchased a couple of their "best" mic stands a few years ago. I grew increasingly frustrated with both the quality and adjustability of the stands.

I was on the phone with my Sweetwater rep one day and asked if there was something he could recommend that would be easy to adjust and be sturdy. These stands certainly meet both of those criteria. I am also pleased with their adaptibility. I ended up also buying the O2 dual arm boom, the standard boom and the mini boom. Perhaps more adaptability than was necessary, but the different booms change out easily.

Placing microphones just became infinitely less of a headache. Thanks for the recommendation Sweetwater!!

Great Mic Stand

At Last

By Stephen S. from Port Townsend, WA
Music Background: Long term musician, and part time recording guy.

Finally, a mic stand set up that is versatile, sturdy, and adaptable. I have been frustrated for years trying to get a good mic set up, even with high quality studio stands. The Triad products solve most all of the issues. I haven't used them long, but plan to use nothing but them in the future. I would have given them five stars, but just can't get "blown away" by a mic stand.
