Not too smooth

By Peter P. from Oak Lawn, IL

I own two Triad Orbit mic stands, this one and a standard height model. They are both nicely heavy and feel like they can take a beating. I like the fact that you can tilt them by adjusting the leg angle, and it appears that they would be easy to repair.

That said, both of them exhibit the same (what I consider to be major) flaw: the inner tube does not move smoothly within the clutch. You loosen the clutch, then try adjusting the height, the tube moves a bit and binds up, then you loosen the clutch some more to the point where the tube actually wobbles, and eventually you can set the height you want. SOMETIMES...you do all this, set the height, tighten the clutch, and a few minutes later the whole tube slams down with the mic because the clutch wasn't tight enough and you were apparently just at the edge of one of the points where the tube binds. I've gotten a bit paranoid waiting for the day when I damage an expensive mic this way, so now I overtighten every time. I would forgive and forget if this was some crapola bottom feeder stand from the bargain bin at guitar mart, but at the cost of these things, I'm very much not impressed. I've used a lot of stands over the years, and currently own a variety of Ultimate and Atlas stands, and they all move and hold position far better than my Triad Orbits. If it was one, I'd say maybe I got a lemon, but it's two for two, and that's just unacceptable.

Just to emphasize that I don't have a vendetta against Triad, I think their quick connect/release system is fantastic, if a bit pricey. I've taken to putting the Triad connectors on my other stands and all my mic holders, and leaving the Orbits in the corner. Safer that way.

Solid stand

By Keith from Ohio
Music Background: Gigging musician.

I also have the boom and I sit down when so play my guitar and sing. The stand and the boom work really well together that way. Just a well made product that will last.

Most solid stand I've ever used

By Sweetwater Customer from Chicago
Music Background: Bass and ukulele, Columbia College sound program grad.

Heavy! In my roadying days I wouldn't want to have had to haul a crate of these things on a regular basis, but in my little studio this is perfect. I'm always concerned about bumping into a stand and watching a valuable mic take a nose dive, but not with this stand. Very solid and very adjustable. With the angle feature I don't even need a boom. The removable head is a nice bonus, and better than any other quick-change adapters I've used. My only complaint is "made in China." Yeah yeah, some people care and some don't. I do, but it's still a well designed and well made stand. I can't take that away from it. Recommended.

Triad-Orbit T1 to the rescue!

By Marc from Metro Phoenix AZ

I had been searching for a good long while for a robust solution for a holder for my 12" iPad Pro. I need to set up the iPad behind my Moog Sub37 at a certain height and angle due to my horrendous field of vison :-) . the best solution for me was a combination of Triad Orbit products. This stand coupled with a Triad Orbit IO-A1A telescoping arm and the Triad Orbit iOrbit Universal Tablet Holder works perfectly. There may be other less weighty, or cheaper, solutions out there, but they're not for me! I do a ton of local gigging and I need dependable equipment. Highly recommended.

Perfect Studio Mic Stand

By David from Oakland, CA
Music Background: Producer & Engineer

I've been waiting for a mic stand like this one. I always find it hard to get stands in tight spaces around drum kits and now I have a solution. The adjustable legs and weighted bottom to this stand make it perfect for fitting into those tight spots to get the mic in just the right place. Pro engineers know that mic placement is crucial to a good recording and this little guy provides the stability and flexibility to get mics right where they need to be. The quick release coupler is great for swapping out booms and managing studio time. All around, this mic stand is a must-have for any professional engineer.
