Mesa/Boogie Subway TT-800 Lightweight 800-watt Bass Head - Black Reviews

800W, 2-channel Hybrid Bass Amp Head with Boogie Channel, Subway Channel, 3-band EQ, Highpass, O/D Symmetry Knob, and Deep/Bright/Gain Switches - Black

Inspired by Randall Smith’s original Bass 400 tube design, the Subway TT-800 refines and blends the best of its historical predecessor with Mesa’s beloved Subway preamp and a Class D output section. The result? A genre-defying bass amp that excels at home, in the studio, and on the stage. This head’s dual-channel design supplies you with both a Subway channel for modern-minded clarity and a Boogie channel that unlocks a rich, classic low-end character. Each channel sports a dedicated EQ section for interactive tone shaping, along with four global switches that unlock High-/Low-gain voices, a Deep switch to sculpt your signal’s bottom end, and a Bright switch to sharpen up your bass’s definition. Plus, both channels feed into a robust 800-watt Class D power amp that comes equipped with a gritty onboard overdrive. You also get a seriously robust I/O section on the back panel with channel-specific effects loops, balanced DI outs, heavy-duty speakON speaker outs, and more. Classic and modern all at once, the Mesa/Boogie Subway TT-800 covers all your low-end needs with arena-ready authority.

Great Bass Amp

By JJ from VICTORIA, TX
Music Background: Live Music Performer

I've had an Orange Terror Bass, Ampeg 100w SVT head, and a few more. This amp is the most nimble and flexible in regards to True Tone. I am using a Darkglass Anagram and could not be happier with the total set up. Just make sure to use the clean channel when using an amp modeler like the Anagram. There's much more headroom with this channel than the boogie.

The bees knees

By Bill

Have owned some nice gear over the years, but aging dictated downsizing again. I went from a Bassman 300 (Sunn 300T) and full sized pro cabs, to a V-4B and an Ampeg 212 cab. I now have the TT-800 and a Mesa Subway 1x15 and 1x12.

The tube preamp on the TT is divine, and the tone from this head and those Mesa cabs is amazing and plenty loud. Other than the occasional bit of nostalgia for the Bassman, I don't think I've sacrificed anything tone-wise with this Mesa amp and cabs. And my back thanks me every time I haul these things around.

Many thanks to Zach, my sales engineer, for his real world expertise and advice on this Mesa gear.

Preamp tone wrecks otherwise great amp

By NS

On paper this thing is killer, but the tone of this just sounds really bad. If your input gain is low on either channel, it can sound ok, but the whole point of having a tube preamp is to get some great compression and hair. That beautiful "swollen on the verge of bursting" tube tone you'd get from *insert F and A legacy brands* is completely absent here. It sounds like you're hitting a brick wall limiter, it's a hard sound that just doesn't feel great nor sound good. The subway series otherwise is solid but this one ended up a hard pass for me. A step down to one of the other versions would be my suggestion.

Massive Bass Tone by Mesa Boogie

By Jeremy M. from Houston Texas
Music Background: I've played drums, guitar, bass performed vocals for over 40 years. In the 2000's I led southern California's old school death metal band 'Vesuvius' on guitar and lead vocals, and played up and down the west coast for 10 years. As well I led psychedelic

I recently picked up the Mesa/Boogie Subway TT-800 Lightweight 800-watt Bass Head from Sweetwater, and it has absolutely blown me away. The tone, power, and versatility packed into such a lightweight design are simply unmatched. Whether I'm playing live or recording, the TT-800 delivers rich, articulate bass tones with so much headroom — it's honestly a dream come true for any serious bassist.

As always, the experience with Sweetwater was flawless, thanks in huge part to my longtime sales engineer, Jimmy Hart. For nearly a decade, Jimmy has consistently provided gold star service — always knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely invested in making sure I get exactly what I need. His advice and support have been a huge part of my gear journey, and this latest purchase is no exception.

Sweetwater and Jimmy Hart set the standard for customer service, and with amazing gear like the TT-800, they've got a customer for life. Highly recommend both the amp and the team behind it!

Absolutely Amazing

By Derek S. from Southgate, MI

I had an old M-pulse, this thing has been a work horse. The tones that you can get out of this light weight amp are amazing. I have spent many fun filled hours playing around and experimenting, great tones. Highly recommend. I will not change amps, Mesa all the way.

This Amp Rocks!

By James C. from Columbus, GA

This is the best amp I've ever played on. With the ability to switch between 2,4,and,8 ohms, you can run just about any cabinet you want. This amp is loaded with features and is well worth the price.

Maybe the best bass amp ever.

By Thomas T. from Akron Ohio
Music Background: Multi Instrumentalist and Studio Owner.

I've been a bass player for for 28 years and i love bass gear. I've got a 80s all tube SVT classic, a 90s Mesa 400+, a 70s Fender Studio bass and all these amps I th were end all be all amps. This thing is unreal. It's like 7lbs, built like a brick sh*t house and OMG the tone. With a Boss ODB3 in front of it it's the heaviest, tightest most perfect tone ne I've ever heard. Mesa are the gods of bass.

It’s just…. Beautiful.

By Adam from PNW

Man, it took me some time to get to grips with this amp, but once I did, it has blown my socks off. Running this into 2x Avatar 1x12"'s and it's everything I could want. The input circuit alone is gorgeous and is definitely my preferred DI when recording - crystal-like clarity and harmonic warmth. The preamp section is actually great - the Boogie channel in particular has become a go-to for me, seeing up warm driven vintage tone. The other channel's really nice and clean and fits well in the top-tier hifi tone. It does take a bit of fiddling to figure out how the amp behaves, but the juice is worth the squeeze on this. Pro tip - it likes the input stage to be driven pretty well if you're looking for a cleaner tone - coming out of a Cali76, a hot signal does this amp favors. It equally responds very well to my pretty-darn-hot Bart preamp in my Modulus. Last, it weighs nothing - like paperback book range, seriously. I've considered taking it to gigs just to run as a DI - it's that good.

Boom boom slap boom / subway TT-800

By Sweetwater Customer

Not too many amps sound good right out of the box. You usually have to tinker around tweaking the knobs. This thing sounds good just about any way you have it dialed in. Every time I think "yeah, that sounds really good" I turn a knob or two and it sounds even better. Tons of versatility and options. Also my sales rep, Geoff Allen is an awesome very knowledgeable guy. I've been in the music business over 50 years and have been working with Geoff for the last 13 or more years. He has really made my life a lot easier.

Let's do Mesa! Mesa, Mesa, bo-Besa!

By W. from California
Music Background: gigging bassist

Excellent, high-quality form factor. Nice switches, knobs, and the perfect weight. Not too heavy, but not something that will flop around. Has all the features a working bassist could want/expect. The power/volume one would expect per the specifications. Two preamps in one! Fan that is actually quiet - Aguilar engineers take note. Very functional and reasonably intuitive EQ. I think it looks cool, and it's hard to think anyone would find it objectionable visually - Markbass engineers take note. Comes with a cool little bag - usually you pay $ for that. Tonally, a few notes. First of all, I find the "regular" Subway amp to be much too dark/bland. The + at least adds a bright switch, and it's better. This amp has the Boogie channel and the Subway channel. The Boogie channel has a nice rock tone with plenty of brightness and some tube warmth - 3 tubes. The Subway channel is much better on the TT800 than the regular Subway amp - I think it has a single tube in this case. Both are serviceable/useful. Beware it's a mix amp though. It doesn't sound "tubey sweet", IMO, but it will sit in the mix well. It's got a lot of controls, but if you think of it as two little amps stacked on each other, it's pretty straightforward. Frankly I don't hear a huge amount of difference between the WD800 and the TT800. Both are good, but this has more variety. And, for me, the WD800 has way too many controls! :)

Great Amp!

Still tweaking, but

By Chris from Sarasota, FL
Music Background: Actively gigging musician

I've had the amp for a couple of weeks, paired with a Mesa Boogie Subway 1x15 cabinet. I bought the set because of all the positive hype and because of the light weight for gigging. I play in a rock band that does 2-3 shows per month. So far it has not knocked my socks off. If I had to choose between using my existing Ampeg SVT 7 Pro & Ampeg 4x10 cab against this, so far the Ampeg gear wins for solid undistorted low end and warmth. I will be gigging this weekend with the Mesa Boogie setup and I'm eager to hear from my band mates, sound man and audience whether they notice a difference. Jury is still out on this for now, especially given the relatively high price point.

Versatile Powerhouse

By Dillon G. from Wrightsboro, N.C.
Music Background: Jazz/Fusion/Blues/Funk/R&B/Soul/Rock (semi-pro)

Basses: UprightBass/BassGuitar/ERB/BassUkulele
Genres: Jazz/Fusion/Blues/Funk/R&B/Soul/Rock

I have been using the TT-800 for 3 months now for a variety of applications, in this time the amp has seen over 100 hours of live performance and at least 200 hours of practice use. The majority of gig use has been for Acoustic Upright Bass (Jazz) running through an Aguilar GS112 (8 Ohms). No reliability issues thus far and no thirst for additional power. For me the advantage of the TT-800's 2 channels with dedicated EQs and dedicated FX Loops extends beyond convenience alone. Playing Upright Bass and doubling on Bass Guitar can add frustrations on gigs when you only have a single channel/preamp/EQ; the advantage of the TT's 2 channels with FX loops expands your ability to change your sound with on-the-fly channel swapping and/or bypassing the TT's EQ(s) with additional external preamps. The TT-800 enables me to dial in my preferred settings during sound checks not during performances when exchanging basses; only making fine adjustments, if any, as needed while playing. Additionally, this amp has performed well as a "house" bass amp where it has been used by numerous bassists at jam sessions ranging from Upright, to Bass Guitar, to 5 and 6 string ERB (for this application I have dialed-in my preferred settings on one channel and left the other channel at the whims of the other bassists). I have also really enjoyed running my Ampeg SVT 3-Pro (Preamp Out) through the Subway channel FX Return; this bypasses the Subway Preamp/EQ and gives me classic SVT tone and Preamp/EQ through the TT's class D power section and leaves the classic Boogie 400+ tone and Preamp/EQ intact on the Boogie channel. This Boogie/SVT combo is awesome for gigs where I "double" on Upright and Bass Guitar, want two very distinct proprietary bass tones, and/or when I want the advanced sound sculpting abilities of the 3Pro (or similar) on at least one of the TT's two channels. If I were only playing Upright Bass and only playing Jazz I would probably consider a different amp (like an Acoustic Image Clarus). I have found, however, the TT-800 can provide a spectrum of clean tone for Acoustic Upright Bass without the help of additional sound processing components. The TT offers light weight, Class D power leading amongst its competitors along with the versatility of an amp that is suitable for more than only one genre or bass instrument. All the positives aside, if you require extensive sound processing control there is no replacement for a parametric or graphic EQ, neither of which the TT-800 has on board. Instruments that lack preamps or have limited EQ adjustments may not be optimized through the TT-800 without additional equipment; fortunately the FX Loop(s), Aux In, and Direct Output(s) enable seamless integration of whatever additional sound processing needs you could require. I anticipate a long and enjoyable relationship with this amp and I trust that it will continue to serve well as the very versatile, central powerhouse of any bass amplification requirements I have.

Lightweight, Great sound

By Adam from ID
Music Background: Bass for å long time, Edm production for å little time

I've been playing many basses for some time ('nuff said). This is such a lovely amp and is worth getting as an alternative to the Noble DI alone even if you're not playing through a cab. If you're the kind of person who can take blind tube/digital or compressor test and be correct, you're going to instantly fall for the tone in this beast.

It's super light weight, and simultaneously itself-sounding and tonally diverse. At home from coffee shop open mic to main stage metal. For me, my HH stingray special or p-bass through a Cali76 CB compressor and into the boogie channel is the real deal. The input stage is good enough that I've started tracking things through it pre-masters as a clean DI for my personal stuff. Worth it!

Music Background: Pro world touring multiple tours/bands. 29yrs experience,19 basses, 7 guitars, 1 acoustic bass, 3 acoustic guitars amps: ampeg, gorilla, Gibson, gk, Hartley, Mesa, rickenbacker, and acoustic. Combos to full stacks. Way too expensive hobby! Addicted to gea

I bought this head about 1 1/2 years ago been playing for 29years, have 19 basses as of Christmas last year, ditched the ol lady for another guitar and bass, wise choice less money. I have an old school 400+head, Mesa 2x15 road, 4x10 w/8" 2 horns both Mesas besides others. This head was fantastic then suddenly right when we were on stage direct support for Zeke stupid head power no sound tried everything nothing worked brought it home same thing intermittent sometimes both sometimes channel 1 needs repair sweetwater still waiting for a reply back. Undependable is a no go for me when faced with live situations and tours. Quality isn't what Mesa of past used to be. Shouldn't be failing so soon since I baby it during transport. We'll see what happens as of now it's a giant paper weight.

Great amp

By Chris from AZ
Music Background: Gigging bassist/drummer

I had the original Subway, which I really liked, but this I love. The ability to switch independently between 2, 4, and 8 ohms is an improvement over the original, as well as the Boogie channel addition. I miss my old Big Block 750 because of its classic Mesa bass tone, and TT gets pretty darn close, but in a 7lb package. My only regret is waiting to buy until the Gibson buyout and inflation rocketed the price almost $ more than when the TT originally released.

This amp is AMAZING!!

By Justin B. from Macon, GA
Music Background: Ex-Pro, Once Signed, still-kicking Bass player with 20 years experience (all genres)

This amp is a POWERHOUSE! For the price, you can't beat it! This sucker is packing tubes, multiple channels, and all of the quality of tone that you'd expect from Mesa Boogie! I'd definitely recommend picking up the foot pedal. Also, be prepared to acquire some SpeakOn cables, as this guy's output doesn't use the 1/4" guitar cables. But the tone is... nothing short of amazing. I've always been a GK guy, but Mesa Boogie will be getting my business from here on!

I've been playing And gigging for over 25 years And this is hands down the best amp I've ever owned! The boogie channel has replaced my Vulcan and text 21 VT preamp pedals permanently! The subway channel has a huge frequency sweeps allowing for pretty much any sound you could ever need and great mid controls allowing you to get the mids right to stand up in a full band mix with ease.

Really like this amp!

By Arlen

I've tried a little of everything for electric bass over four decades of playing. I found myself settling into my old Ampeg SVT Pro, as I just prefer the sound of a tube preamp under most conditions. Unfortunately, the fan on the Amp sounds like prop plane at high taxi, so it can get annoying, especially at practice. I'd taken to always setting up two amps to get all the tones I want, and that's why I was drawn to the TT-800. I trusted Sweetwater and paid a reduced price for a demo model. I wasn't disappointed. The amp was received in perfect condition, the only clue that it was used being the unsealed box.

For me, this amp is as advertised. I love being able to set up two channels with much different tones and switch between them. Going from a two amp set-up to this single, very small, light-weight amp cuts down my packing weight by a good 20 pounds or so. I get great tube tone from the Boogie channel (still not as full as the Ampeg, but definitely good enough), and typically keep the Subway channel set a little more high, tight, and aggressive. It works for everything I need it to do at the flip of a couple of switches. I build my own cabs, and this amp produces beautiful tones from tens, twelves, fifteens, and all combinations thereof that I've tried. So far, this is turning out to be the best amp purchase I've made.

Best Lightweight Bass Head Available

By Mark F. from Indianapolis

I love warm, articulate, detailed sound that I can drive into a growl by digging in on my bass. My past favorites were my SWR Redhead/Big Ben combo and my SWR 750 driving a Barefaced Bass Big Twin 2. I get older every year and just couldn't lug this heavy gear around. I have tried two Class D bass heads: an SWR Headlite and an Aguilar AG 700. Both lacked the guts and growl I was looking for. The tone was too sterile and dry for my taste.

I took a flyer and tried the Mesa/Boogie TT-800. My initial reaction is very good. It doesn't quite have the dense sound of the SWR 750 but it is close and I can get tube overdrive that is sensitive to the strength of my playing. On the very positive side, this amp is LOUD! Plenty of power into the Big Twin 2. The tone controls are set to frequency ranges that allow you to sculpt a variety of bass tones. The simple intuitive gain and volume controls as well as the two separately voiced channels are very flexible. I look forward to learning more about this amp.

Not bad but way over-hyped

By Nic from Ohio

The upside for this amp is that the EQ is very responsive, both channels behave differently. But one thing to keep in mind, both channels sound pretty much the same, it's not like having two amps in one. It's more like having a standard 2-channel amp that you can set two different shapes on. The boogie channel is a little more round and "slow" where the subway channel is a little more detailed on the highs and faster overall response. The difference is very subtle. The big fat bottom you'd expect from a tube amp is missing, but that just seems to be the case with SS power sections. You really have to push the EQ quite a lot to get that slight tube fatness. The power amp overdrive symmetry does change the feel a little, fully engaged.

Also, the tube preamp section doesn't really overdrive at all. You "might" get some compression, but I find pushing the front end of this amp really doesn't deliver a nice tone. That's why I rated it a 4 star amp. You can't get all of the apparent available power because you'll have to keep the preamp fairly low to keep it from having a rather nasty, clamped down tone. Another thing I found is it does not respond to all cabs the same way. My old standbys didn't sound as good as this amp does with a subway cab.

I do like the light weight and the nice carrying bag it comes with and the two effects loops are nice, as you can bypass one preamp entirely and utilize the channel for something that will push into overdrive nicely... but doing so defeats a little bit of the point of buying a bass amp in the first place. This is really expensive to use only as a power amp.

Incredibly Versatile Head!

By Barry from Connecticut

Even though I had seen the rave reviews in print and online of this amp, I was never impressed with the sounds of many of the official demos.

Boy, was I wrong...

Once I had an opportunity to try a TT-800 in person, I am simply blown away with the range of sounds in this package! The same head can go from an ultra-deep, mellow, almost string bassy sound, to full-on distorto bass, passing through nearly every classic sound along the way. I'm currently using mine with the Subway channel set up for a clear, hi-fi sound, pretty close to my "little yellow amp from Italy III", and the Boogie with a grindy, fat, 70's classic rock sound to great comments from band mates and audience alike.

This thing is absolutely loaded with flexibility and features, including dual effects loops, 2 ohm capability, vaiable high-pass filters, and a foot switchable mute. In my 4+ decades of playing, I've probably had 30 amps, and the TT continues to amaze long after the "shut up and take my money" moment.

I'm thinking we're going to have a long and happy partnership...

Amazing Bass Amp

By Rony A.
Music Background: Guitar, bass, synths, recording studio

I was looking to add new bass sounds (alongside my vintage Ampeg) and asked Brendan (my long-time Sweetwater sales contact) about the Mesa amp. It is freaking incredible. This amp brings new life, nuance, and sound to all of my basses (Hofner, Stingray, Fender Jazz, Ric). It is a very musical and well engineering piece of kit - and it makes me happy every time I play it. Just amazing, awesome, and supreme :-)

Wow, very punchy and plenty of low end.

By John from Roseburg, Oregon
Music Background: Bass guitar, weekend warrior.. 35yrs experience

I have been playing thru an Ampeg SVT 2 Pro for 30 yrs. due to the excessive weight of the amp and cost of tube replacement cost, and other potential reliability issues, I decided to give the TT800 a try. I had previously played thru a friend's TC Electronics 750 amp and I thought it really was powerful, so I started doing some research and bought the TT800. Our first rehearsal with this amp was today. and I am every bit as impressed with this amp as anything I have ever played. I didn't need the extra low and hi the toggle switches provide at this time. So far, very impressed with this amp..
I'm running it thru my Ampeg 8x10 cabinet..

OMG all of the YES.

By James from Nashville, TN
Music Background: Bassist, Guitarist, Production Manager, Tour Manager

I'll add to the chorus of praise for this amp.
First, much love, Sweetwater, always a pleasure.

I am the happy owner of a 12" Mesa Walkabout Scout Combo, which I've had forever and it sounds great, and is perfect for practice and small gigs. NO small or class D amp I've ever tried has ever come close to the Walkabout Scout. But at 300 Watts, it just wasn't always enough. I found myself cranking it and losing the deep low end notes and not popping through heavy on chorus downbeats. I need thunder.

My other rig is all huge Ampeg, and I love the all tube tone, deep and wonderful as Ampeg tube stuff is.

I have tried many times to "downsize" and save my back and overall frustration with good sound and tone being associated with heavy gear. I tried the WD 800, the GK Fusion 800, and Aguilar class D stuff, and I always felt it sounded cheap and lame compared to my big SVT4 Pro head and my 6x10 mini fridge, or my Walkabout Scout.

After reading many of the reviews on this head here on the Sweetwater product page, I hesitantly purchased the TT 800 and paired it with a Mesa 2x12 thereby putting 800 watts into the 4 Ohm cab to ensure plenty of headroom and enough to get over the drums, guitars, etc.

After just one rehearsal with this rig - I'M SOLD! I didn't even really have time to tweak the settings the way I want and HOLY MOLY.

I'm just going to say - if you are a tube guy, the Boogie Channel on this head is honestly amazing and you should purchase this immediately if you are on the fence. Just 7Lbs of head in a little bag, with a pretty manageable cabinet - and this rig is the best sounding thing I've ever had aside from the big tube rig, which I will now commence selling - because why carry any of that ever again?

Every bass I tried through it sounded insane. It brought clarity and punch, and deep rich low end I crave with a P Bass, J Bass, and with a German Hofner Club Bass I got scarily good McCartney sounds with little effort.

Mesa, home run. You did it. Thank you from a longtime fan of your bass gear.

Now excuse me while I go play more bass.

There's all the other Class Ds on a path to mediocrity and then there's Randall "Doc" Smith firing up the DeLorean with TT-800...

By Chris from NEWBURYPORT, MA

Where we're going we don't need roads... The TT-800 is what should be returned when you search "Major League" anywhere on the internet. It has fantastic clarity and response with the ability to produce anything from natural overdriven grit to bright harmonically rich dynamic pop while in the subway channel. And then there's the Boogie channel... oh man the Boogie channel. I've played a decent amount of tube based preamp Class Ds but the TT is in a completely different league. I honestly don't think it should be listed in the same category as the other "Class D/Tube Pre" units. Switching channels into the Boogie channel instantly results in a very distinct warm round sound very reminiscent of Mesa's iconic 400+ (just as advertised). The HPF on both channels works incredibly well for taking out the boom without leaving you sounding empty or thin through the entire range. Low/High Gain, Deep and Bright switches are just the right amount of boost in all the right frequencies (in the Deep/Bright cases that is) to be functional within a lot of different environments and the semi-para mid is just enough to not leave you asking for more.

I was a little worried about only having the single parametric adjustment (mid) but the massive selectable range of 150-2k works extremely well while not demanding too much real estate. It is honestly more of an "upper bass" to almost "presence" range instead of the traditional "Mid" control.

And as always the Sweetwater Service is the cherry on top. Always an excellent experience, especially with my man Kyle out there making sure I don't miss a beat!

Great amp

By Keith O. from SoCal
Music Background: Semi retired pro

I got this to pair up with the Subway 215 cabinet. It blooms in the Boogie channel, very tube like warmth and fat. The Subway channel is a little more modern sounding to my ears.
Controls a well thought out and with minimal knob tweaking to get a good sound out of it. It's a very well built amp.
Comes with a very well written manual too. Read it to discover all the features.
The gig bag is a nice touch. Also has a proper length power cable that's pretty robust.
Diggin' it.

Killer.

By Brandon H. from CONCORD, NH

The amp sounds awesome.
Extremely versatile with its sound shaping high gain/low gain scenarios I play mostly metal but enjoy other genres, and appreciate how easy it is to find a sound.
The head came missing a screw for the right side plate, but I reached out to mesa and the sent three to me easy fix.

Great Amp

By William E. from San Angelo, TX
Music Background: Gigging musician

I've had this head for about a month and am extremely pleased with my purchase. This replaces my aged Mesa Boogie Bass 400. I absolutely love my Bass 400, but after the third time this year of having to replace failed components (the last straw being a shorted cap that took out a brand new tube), I decided that new and reliable was an attractive option. I was extremely sceptical of a class D power amp's ability to model the sound and feel of my all tube baby, but this miracle of genius engineering is nothing short of amazing. I started out by setting the controls of the boogie channel to my Bass 400's settings and with a slight amount of adjustment and playing around with the volumes and high pass filter, I got not only my familiar and comfortable tone, but better. I run my Darkglass Alpha/Omega Ultra and a chorus through the input and it just sounds killer.
Switching to the second channel, I'm able to get a beautiful, round, fluffy-yet-articulate tone that sounds awesome when I need a reggae vibe.
I've always gotten compliments on my tone at gigs with my old Mesa, but the enthusiasm I received at my first gig with this new beauty sealed the deal for me.
I paired this head with a new Subway Ultra Lite 4X10 and I know I've found my rig for life. Coincidentally, my wife says the same thing, except she doesn't share in my enthusiasm. Apparently, there's more important things to spend that much money on...I don't know about that. I refrained from mentioning her Starbucks habit.

Mesa Boogie TT-800

By Greg from Clearwater, Florida
Music Background: Professional musician.

After doing a few gigs, and rehearsals with the TT-800...I've got to say, this is the best bass head I've ever owned....and I've bought and sold so many I've lost count! If you're on the fence about buying this amp, don't wait, this amp can deliver any tone you want, easily, and with the confidence of Mesa Boogie's build quality...This may well be the last amp you'll buy! The two channel is such a plus when switching from two different bass's, especially if you've got to go between a 4 and 5 string bass. Love this amp....I've also kept an older Walkabout Scout 12", the D-800+ and a pair of Subway 12' cabinets. The quality of Mesa Boogie gear is tops!!

Awesome

By Sweetwater Customer from California

This is the most amazing, state of the art amp available. Three preamp tubes, Class D power amp. 800 watts 2 ohm compatible. Built in HPF. Two channels switchable on the fly with a footswitch (not included). The Boogie channel is based on the classic 400/400+ tube amp. The Subway channel is based on the Subway D800, D800+ and the WD800 class D amps. Solid construction, surprisingly light and comes with a nice padded bag, power cord and headphone adapter plug for 1/8 plugs. I coupled mine with the Subway 4x10 for amazing, versatile tone. It sounds great at all volumes and bedroom practice level. Is clear, full and rich. It can get very loud. 5 year warranty and the best amp manual ever written.

Mesa Boogie Subway TT-800 is a Versatile Bass Machine

By Eric from RI

This I bought this amp to upgrade my setup and it certainly has. It sounds great with my P bass. With my Spector bass it took me a while to dial in a sound that I kind of like. I am still adjusting it for that bass. It has a lot of dynamics to it and adjusting it takes some time. I love the sound of it and while it is loud it is not deafening with the 2X10 cab that I have. I recommend this amp if you are serious about your tone and want tonal options at your fingertips.

The hype around this head is REAL. Simply KILLER!

By Jammin J. from Smyrna, TN
Music Background: Shakin' walls for over 20 years

OK, so I'm a regular on a forum where people Talk Bass. This head has MANY fans on there, and last year I first bought a Subway 115 cab because of all the love it's gotten there.

There are no Mesa dealers anywhere near me, so I bought all my Mesa gear from Sweetwater with no auditioning beforehand, and I gotta say I have NO REGERTS! A few months after getting the 115, I bought the matching Subway 210. These cabs are fantastic. They even make ho-hum heads like the TC BQ500 and MarkBass Little Mark 250 Blackline sound really good!

So, now I've got world-class cabs, some killer basses (Custom LowEnd in pic, Stingray 5, Customized Fender J and P basses, etc) but my amp game was still weak. I had 3 different class D heads, one with a tube pre, but none of them really wowed me. I didn't get any warm, authentic drive from them. They all were fine amplifiers in terms of making my bass louder, but none of them added any "magic."

Enter the TT800! I finally pulled the trigger on the TT a couple weeks ago. I ordered it being fully prepared to send it back if it didn't make me happy. Again, no local place to try one out beforehand. 60 seconds after flipping the power switch, I knew this baby wasn't going ANYWHERE! I haven't even cracked open the manual yet, but I immediately found very full, warm and fat tones, then gritty, punchy and aggressive sounds, and then pull back on the gain in the Subway channel and there is the clean, pristine, immediate response you want in spades.

All the "magic" I was wanting is here. The designer of this amp is an electronic wizard - the Gandalf of good tone, the David Copperfield of coppin' great sounds, the Penn Gillette of P bass punch. Each channel of this head is very different, from the way the EQs work to how they respond to playing, this is ridiculously versatile but never in a way that feels "compromised" in trying to fit too much into one head. This head truly is two completely independent, well thought-out, and properly executed amplifiers in one package. Also, it looks so mean and powerful just sitting there! Simply, clean, and straightforward, but very authoritative and making no excuses or apologies. I absolutely love this thing.

I haven't had a chance to play it out yet, but I'm looking forward to hear what my sound guy at church has to say about the DI out. That gets raves on the forums as well.

To sum it up, if you are on the fence about ordering/trying one of these TT800s, just do it. I think you'll absolutely dig it. If not, Sweetwater is a great company to deal with, and I recommend Matt South if you don't already have a rep. He's helped me for the last few years and id always a pleasure to deal with. Rock on, my friends!

Love it!

By Sweetwater Customer

The more I play with this amp, the more I like it. I've set up the Boogie channel for a passive J style bass with flats. The tonal characteristics really suit it. The Subway channel is set up for an Active P-J style bass with rounds for a much more "modern" tone.

It sounds great with volumes from bedroom level to really loud. It got painfully loud with a 1x15 and 1x12 cab.

This will really suit all of my needs for the foreseeable future. Great job from Mesa Boogie.

Mesa Boogie TT-800

By Greg from Clearwater, Florida
Music Background: Professional musician.

You just can't beat Mesa's quality, and their customer service. This little amp has everything you need to dial in a great bass tone, and with power!. The two channel feature is one of the reason's I bought my 3rd Mesa Boogie amp, great when you have two different bass's on stage.

King of Class D Amps.

By Matt from Boston
Music Background: Lifelong bass player

Stop your search here, this is the best your going to find. This amps blows everything else away. It has Way better tone then my SVT-VR in every way and it is over 80lbs lighter, literally. You can shape any tone you need. I'm a Mesa guy through and through, always have been. I paired this with the Subway 4x10 and couldn't be happier. I also own the 800+ and 2x10 and 1x15 but the TT and 4x10 is where it's at. Do yourself a favor and buy this. Two channels, tube pre amp, high pass filter, this has all you need.

The sound inside my head...

By James V. from Sparks, NV

After a couple weeks of ownership, I can't quite put into words my satisfaction with this amp.

First, I've played bass for 40 years now and have owned nearly everything built since the 70's. I recently decided to part with several very nice guitars and amps with the plan of ending up with a "dream" rig. I considered the Demeter D-400, the Bergantino Forte and of course, the Mesa.
Unfortunately, the COVID-19 makes demo-ing equipment basically impossible so I had to weigh all the reviews I could get my hands on and that made the TT-800 a fairly simple decision.

I don't want to re-hash what's already been said about this great amp, I was really looking for a reliable and old guy portable amp that could provide the great 70's SVT sound. The tonal possibilities are amazing, this amp really does it all - tube grind to MOSFET punch and everything in between.

I'm running the amp with Hartke HD112s - one for practice, two for playing out. Using my Ultra P-bass I get the old school sound I want but can get a great punch for more modern stuff. With my Ric the ability to get a Geddy/Squire sound is super easy. Finally, I play a Tony Franklin Fretless, the sound of a Fretless with vintage tube grind is just phenomenal!

My best advice if you're considering this amp is to download and fully read the owners manual, absolutely the best technically written manual with tons of information on all the possible settings.

Amazing for Electric bass AND Double bass!!!

By Sweetwater Customer

High pass filters on a bass amp on both channels. That is the first thing that drew me to this amp. Such a useful feature in my opinion. I love the boogie channel with electric bass and the subway channel with double (upright/string/contra)bass is simply the best preamp I've ever used with that instrument. Lots of tone tweaking ability for any situation or cabinet configuration. Home run, Mesa!

Mesa TT-800 The best from the best

By George from Hopewell, NJ

I waited for enough time to pass after purchasing the Mesa TT-800 to become fully familiar with the amp controls and tones available before writing this review. After a month of home practice volume, two indoor and two outdoor gigs, I feel comfortable sharing my views. This is not my first Mesa rodeo, as I've owned the D-800 and D-800+, but historically I'm a GK tone lover.

Versus GK, Mesa is much more mid-forward in my view, which is not as pleasing for home practice, but fully delivers in a busy band mix. Last night, while our band was being filmed, I noticed the cameraman playing air bass along with my playing. When we finished, I asked if he plays bass, and he said he plays guitar, but my tone was the best he'd ever heard. I agree, out of every amp I've owned, the Mesa TT-800 is the best. Though every room will sound different, last night was in a 300 person capacity theatre. If you want to try them, my settings were as follows: Boogie Chanel, High Gain, Gain at 2 pm on the clock face, Highpass 10:30, Bass 1:00, Mid noon, Mid Frequency full Norm(left), Trebble 1:00, and Volume at 1:00. I used the Post-DI and asked the sound guy to set the board flat, so what I heard and the house put out should have been very close.

We all hear things differently, but I'm ecstatic with the tones, build quality and ease of use of the new TT-800. Yes, you deserve it too.

Patrick, thanks for the great buying experience.

Finally a new Mesa two channel bass amp!

By Allan from Michigan
Music Background: Cover band.

My third Mesa Boogie bass amp. I was looking for an older two channel but Mesa just came out with this. Got some pretty good tones straight away. I'm sure there are a lot more in there. Two channels give you a chance to quickly change your sound, important in a cover band. Rack ears are a bit expensive for what they are but I didn't want to skimp on quality. Shipping from Sweetwater was freakishly fast! From ordering it to arriving on my porch was less than 24 hours! And Free shipping! I'm one happy camper.

Very. Very. nice!

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: working pro

Finally got to use it in a rehearsal setting (still waiting for gig-world to reopen for business). I love my D800+, not a thing wrong with it. But this.....THIS....this was like a warm fuzzy brick to the forehead. Best sounding punch I've ever had out of a lifetime of various all solid state or tube pre-amp/solid state amps.

Excellent bass amp!

By Sweetwater Customer from Long Beach

This is my first Mesa amp and I am extremely pleased at the beefy & hairy sound of the tube preamp section, high power output, extremely light weight, ease of use and build quality. I could tell right away that this amp was exactly what I was looking for in terms of tone and I know that I will have this amp for decades. Excellent!
