MXR M225 Sub Machine Octave Fuzz Pedal Reviews
Unleash waves of frothy, shaggy fuzz tone with the MXR SubMachine guitar effects pedal. It's the perfect combination of the La Machine Fuzz with MXR's tried-and-true sub octave circuit - just what you need for absurdly heavy tone. Dial in the ideal fuzz and even kick in an octave up when the mood strikes you via a dedicated footswitch. The actual Octave control puts the sub in SubMachine, allowing you to roll on as much sub-octave thickness as you like. What's more, the SubMachine includes a Series switch, which lets you run the sub octave either through the fuzz effect or keep it clean by running it parallel. If you dig the Blue Box the way many of us at Sweetwater do, then you're going to love the SubMachine.

The devil comes in different shapes!
I got this for my bass. I think I almost opened a portal to the underworld!
Boom!
Well, this little beast is crazy good. I love The octave up/down features and the fact the fuzz is optional. Sonically, it's awesome and well worth the price. On top of that, my Sales Representative, Connor Smith was informative, helpful, and went out of his way to make the purchasing experience at Sweetwater... the bomb!
Super solid fuzz
This pedal covers a lot of ground, from heavy doom fuzz tones to dani California lead tone when paired with a wah to rival sons huge octave fuzz sounds. It's a mainstay on my board and probably will be for a long time.
Does exactly what it says it does
I got this pedal to make the sound it makes. A refined fuzz tone with a lower octave and the ability to bring in a higher octave. When I want my music to have that sound of "extra" to it, this thing delivers. It's riff inspiration. It's got the kind of fuzz that could easily be used for other instruments as well. I would love to hear a sax, keyboards, etc, doing single line work through this piece. Is it the ultimate fuzz tone? No. But there are other pedals for that. It does exactly what it's supposed to the way it should. Definitely more classic rock than LoFi indie or experimental.
This Pedal slams!!
If you want you guitar to scream out of a mix then you"ll buy this pedal. Sweetwater has the best staff!
Purple tone machine
It's very easy to get massively fuzzy tones with this thing. Put a wah wah after it and you're doing some Black Sabbath 'Electric Funeral' riffs in no time. Or perhaps the tone for the solo in Led Zep's 'Fool in the rain.' It's addicting and quite inspiring in all ways. I'm happy a happy dude!
A monster pedal
This pedal has a huge bag of tricks that create a huge bunch of sounds. Fundamentally it's a great fuzz sound (based on the Foxx Tone Machine) with optional octave-up and 2-octaves-down added. Very adjustable. It may or may not be the sound you're looking for, but it's well worth trying if you're looking for a new and different fuzz unit.
Favorite Octaver
Now this is what I always wanted with Octaves. A HUGE Sub octave, one that shakes the floor. Most octave pedals out there are weak. Not the case here. This pedal commands attention. I love this and the MXR Blue box. This is more predictable, tracks better and has a huge sound. But is less glitchy than the blue box. This may be desirable depending on what you are going for. I'd definitely recommend this one. It is hours of fun whenever I plugin to it.
Fuzz Octave: Beast Mode Activated!
I got the Sub Mahcine in the beginning of last week. I wanted some time to fool around with it, before writing a review.
I had some time over the weekend. All I have to say is...The name says it all.
It truly is a beast. The tone is beefy and tasty. There really is no way to explain it though. As good as the videos are, they really don't do it any justice. Just buy it and you'll definitely enjoy :)
Btw...I bought mine to use on bass ;)
Versatile, Awesome Fuzz
The fuzz alone on this pedal is great. But combined with the fact you can dial in a sub-octave with or without the fuzz. And there's the ability to drop in an octave up and you've got an unbeatable pedal for the price. Big thanks to Andy Miller at Sweetwater for helping me land on this one, it's a keeper.
So fun
I was originally after the La Machine pedal but I couldn't find it anywhere besides the MXR website. Decided to spring for this one and I'm so glad I did. This thing sounds so mean! So abrasive but you can make it really meaty with the SUB knob dialed in the right spot. I'm more of a simple pedal guy but I'm having fun alternating between the series and parallel subs and occasionally hitting the octave button. Only took a half star off since you can't adjust the octave up mix, not a deal breaker by any means
MXR Sub Machine
Just the right amount of options in my opinion. Tracks notes well and easy to dial in what I'm looking for. If it had a talent emulator it would be perfect. No regrets purchasing this pedal.
Sweetwater was out of stock when I ordered and as soon as it hot their dock it was headed to me. They expedited the shipping without me saying a word. Top notch customer service.
Crushing Octo-fuzz
Great fuzz tone with some fun octave up and down options. Was exactly what i was looking for. The option to run fuzz/octave in series or parallel is great.
Love The Machine Gun!
The Machine Gun has a smooth but beastly octave tone. I really love this pedal. I have a large collection of fuzz pedals, this one really stands out.
I typically hate octave fuzz. Most octave fuzz effects I have tried sound like someone farting into a microphone that's run through a distortion pedal. So why did I buy it? I admit, I wanted to be the first kid on the block to have it since it was just introduced at NAMM. But mostly because it was only 10 or 20 dollars more than the MXR classic fuzz, and I thought I'd be able to "dial down" the octave effects and get a straight fuzz. I thought I was getting 2 pedals for the price of one. I was wrong, even at the lowest settings I still get a subtle but noticeable octave effect. This is not a problem! It has a very unique tone of its own and I crank it up loud and proud! I highly recommend it.
Nice Fuzz/Distortion with sub octave
This is a great sounding Fuzz/Distortion with a Fat blendable suboctave. Does fat fuzzy tone really well if that's what you're looking for.
The "series" button is pretty much useless, and I don't care for the Octave Up. Should have been a button to turn on the Sub Oct, in my opinion. Would have given it 4 stars.
Rolling off the volume doesn't really clean it up as much as I'd like.
Noisy when I have both the amp overdrive and fuzz turned on together, but otherwise quiet.
Overall, I'm happy with the Fuzz + Sub!
Yes, please.
Great fuzz and I love the octave down and up at the same time. Wish it was a little more polyphonic.
