Very Nice!

By Jay from Charleston, SC
Music Background: Semi-pro

I've had this tuner for almost one month. The large display is great and I'm really impressed with the accuracy. I'd say that this tuner does a better job than others I've owned. It's also really nice to have the 'sweetened' tunings available. Well worth the money.

Peterson = Tuners

Rekindle those tone-wheel memories of yesteryear! ...OK, so the wheel graphics are digital, but it IS fast, intuitive, accurate and eminently customisable. Peterson IS tuners!

Strobostomp HD Pedal Tuner

By Dwight T. from CAMDEN WYOMING, DE
Music Background: Beginner bassist.

I'm a beginner bassist and I've used a few other tuners. However, the Strobostomp HD Pedal Tuner is next level. I've compared it to other tuners and it stands above the rest. It does exactly what it says per the description and much more. I would 100% recommend this product.

I also want to send a shout out to Will Hyde. He contacted and informed me that my order was packed and ready to be shipped out. Also to check in to see if there was anything else that he could assisted me with. Two thumbs up to Sweetwater if this is regular practice, following up with the costumer after they've placed an order.

Best regards,

Dwight

The Peterson strobe stomp HD pedal tuner is the best I have come across I actually just bought another one so I could have one on my pedal board and one when I tune my guitars with. It is a little costly more than other toners but as well worth the money. I recommend everybody getting one.

Best Tuner I've Ever Owned

By Bryan from GIG HARBOR, WA

I realize the title is subjective, but this really is the best tuner I've ever owned or used. I had no idea what a huge difference a strobe tuner would make, but my E string has never sounded so good. Especially for the price point, you simply cannot go wrong with this tuner. I don't really use any of the presets because I don't play in different tunings, but it's definitely a huge benefit if you do!

Great tuner!

By Kim
Music Background: Beginning Guitarist

I was initially looking at Peterson's StroboPlus HDC, but decided on this pedal model given its portability, durability (metal case), and flexibility (can use on the bench, pedal board, or when tuning just for practice). Great tool to tune and test intonation. Highly recommend. Thanks to Sweetwater's Payton Vieth for the recommendation!

Has a lot of capability. The instruction video's are easier to watch than reading and understanding the operating manual. I would recommend.

Love this thing

By Sweetwater Customer from Northern Virginia
Music Background: '60s and '70s folk- and country-rock with a little regular rock thrown in, plus a Bluegrass tune or two.

I never thought an elderly mandolin player would end up with a pedal, but if I only get one this is it. The features are heaven sent! While I have a clip-on version, it's difficult to retune on stage and even at practice without being able to go off-line or even monitor what my mandolin is doing while playing. That last feature alone is worth the price. The Stroboscope Stomp HD lets me catch and try to retune an errant string on the fly, and I've got a couple that like to wander a bit from time to time. If I'm not playing for several measures I can fix the problem on the spot off line, then jump back in. I lent my clip-on to our banjo player and it got their tuning sorted out! You know these banjo players :)

NICE!!!

By RAT from Milford, DE
Music Background: Guitar, Bass, Studio Rat

I've always been a fan of chromatic tuners for electric guitar and bass. But I kept hearing about Peterson and their strobe tuners. So I decided to take the plunge and check one out. It took me a little bit to get used to it. But once I did I was like yep this is the only tuner I will ever need. It is extremely accurate and the display is awesome. I have low vision so the high contrast display is great for me. I can't recommend this pedal enough for your board, the studio, or the stage.

Peterson StroboStomp HD Pedal Tuner

By Larry P. from NorCal
Music Background: Full time pro for over 45 years.

Most of my spring and summer gigs are outdoors, and most all tuner pedals (led type) can not be seen at all in the sunlight. I'm not a fan of clip on tuners, and most of them have the same issue. I read that the StroboStomp solved this problem, so I bought it knowing I could return it if it didn't work outdoors. It works perfectly in the direct sun, the large (and FAST) display is very easy to read under any conditions. Very happy with this purchase! It literally has dozens of other features that I will probably never use, but as a stand alone tuner it serves me well. It's also built like a tank. The only quibble I have is minor, it is fairly large, but they make a compact version that I'm sure is equally as awesome!

It's more than what I need

By Ricky R. from Brooklyn NY
Music Background: Bass student

My original tuner is a clip on and it does well but I couldn't figure out how accurate it can be? Yes, it will get me in the ball park and maybe for most that's ok.

I've read previous reviews for the StroboStomp and other tuners. I've given it 4 out of 5 stars because I haven't used the other options. I picked up the bass a couple of years ago but can't always practice on a steady basis.

I believe that anytime you connect directly has best accuracy. There are many direct connect tuner pedals like this but I really love the big screen and it's optional colors; I like that I can leave it connected with another pedal and check my tuning anytime. I like making choices I can grow with.

MOST SATISFYING

By Tim

In addition to HX Effects..., I just built out a complementary 14-analog-effects-pedal board (including Wampler, JHS, J Rockett, Greer, Vertex, Walrus, Crazy Tube Circuits...with buffered (Friedman) 4-cable capability. I added to the rig the STROBOSTOMP HD. IT IS THE MOST SATISFYING PEDAL OF ALL.

While I have had/used various tuners over the years, this is the only tuner that goes beyond getting me in the ballpark to fine tune by ear. IT IS SPOT ON! MY EARS, HEART AND SOUL ARE VERY HAPPY! IT SAVES TIME! Yet I am thankful for the prior years of ear training that helps me appreciate such a wonderful tool.

Thank you, Josh Pippin, for your ongoing and excellent assistance, including your help getting me hooked up with the Suhr Bella (she is truly beautiful in every way)!

No brainer -- Just Get It

By JH T. from New York, NY
Music Background: 30+ as a professional guitarist, studio owner/producer/engineer

The accuracy of this tuner is unparalleled...except for the original and insanely expensive Peterson mechanical strobe tuners that I first encountered in high-end studios, concert halls and universities back in the 1980's. Only complaint is that when I first got it, I would frequently hit the menu buttons by accident when plugging in and change the tuning preset. (I would give it 5 stars otherwise). So you have to be mindful when plugging in. But other than that, it's a flawless tuner. I haven't done anything fancy in changing the pedal's default settings but I just might. Indispensable piece of gear for the well-tuned guitarist/bassist!

Strobe convert here...

By James F. from Bonners Ferry, ID
Music Background: Too many years and lovin' every minute

I have used the TC polytune for many years, still own and use a couple of them and they are great but I figured I'd try something new for my latest pedalboard build.

This thing is great. I like the visual which makes it very easy to tune. I also find myself in different tuning situations on a regular basis: A440, 1/2 step down, A444, etc. and this thing is so intuitive, you don't even need to have the manual handy.

I'm a fan. I would buy again.

JUST BUY IT

By Chris from GILBERTSVILLE, KY

Good enough for intonating, never mind just tuning your guitar.
My ear was pretty close and actually I surprised myself how close I really was. But after using the tuner..and I used the "gtr sweetened" mode, my guitar felt like it just had a pro setup. It sounded so good, so in tune.
I've had 8 semesters of ear training at Berklee and have played a looong time. Why was I so stupid not to buy this earlier?...yeah the old bench versions were kinda pricey and clunky to lug to a gig... but this pedal. Holy smokes.
Throw your snarks away and stop using your modeler tuners. This will put it to shame.

FIRST TIMER

By ROBERT from RICHMOND, TX
Music Background: ROCK/ALTERNATIVE/POP

I HAVE BEEN A DRUMMER ALL MY LIFE, HAVE PLAYED PROFESSIONALLY FOR SOME YEARS. 5 YEARS AGO I PICKED UP THE GUITAR TO LEARN IT AND WHEN I WENT SEARCHING FOR A GOOD TUNER - I ENDED UP ORDERING SOMETHING ELSE. WHICH DIDNT WORK OUT WELL I HAD IT FOR A VERY SHORT TIME LIKE 2 DAYS AND IT STOPPED WORKING AND DECIDED TO SEND IT BACK AND SEARCH AGAIN. THAT'S WHEN I FOUND THE PETERSON STROBOSTOMP TUNER PEDAL AND LET ME TELL YOU. I LOVE IT. VERY EASY TO READ AND SWITCHING FROM PEDALS IS A BREEZE AND REALLY FIND THE PEDAL TO BE VERY ACCURATE. I REACHED OUT TO A GUITARIST FRIEND AND HE SAID "WOW YOU WENT BIG TIME" AS A BEGINNER THEY ARE GREAT PEDALS!! SEEING I GOT THE APPROVAL THAT I MADE A GOOD CHOICE, I WAS HAPPY TO HEAR THAT FROM A SEASONED PLAYER. SO FAR SO GOOD.

Peterson StroboStomp HD

By Sweetwater Customer from CALIFORNIA

I've had my new StroboStomp HD for a couple of weeks now. I like it more everytime I use it. It's really fast note aquisition, extreme accuracy, large, clear display make it a joy to use. You do have to learn to make very small/fine adjustments due to the accuracy level, (literally 10 times more accurate than my Boss TU3 pedal, 0.1 vs 1 cent).
There is a learning curve, Peterson's You Tube channel and the manual had me up and running in an afternoon. I "hid" the tuning presets I wasn't going to use, turned on the octave number indicator and assigned different colors to the presets I use, (EQU GUIT ACCU 12string NASH SBJ).
The Peterson Connect web-site is really easy to use, updates the firmware version, custom presets and I think you can create custom colors too.
Sweetwater Sound offers great support and prompt, free shipping as well.

Peterson Strobostomp is VERY easy to use and Quite Robust.

By David from Loveland, Colorado
Music Background: Pro bassist, many years

I am someone who started my music career using the now-discontinued Boss TU-12H as a tuner. After graduating from High School where I used the TU-12H in Marching band and Jazz band I found out that the Boss TU-12H wasn't quite solid enough for real-world punk band onstage use and so moved on to a beefy Boss TU-2. Recently I needed a new tuner and was a bit reticent to move on to a different brand of tuner but I needed something that would do 432Hz, something that was gig ready and stage sturdy so my Most Awesome Sales Engineer Sean DeLeon recommended the Peterson Strobostomp. This is a lesson, kiddos. ALWAYS trust your Sweetwater Sales Engineer, they are working musicians and know what gear will suit you best, just tell them what you need and they will steer you to the right stuff. I totally LOVE this tuner. It took a little getting used to since it is not like most "VU display" tuners but once you get over that, it's very easy to use and it's in real time, not a slight delay like most other tuners. It feels really sturdy, works wonderfully, super-silent switch operation, VERY easy to see in all lighting conditions and has many different features, like a buffered output for pedal junkies, monitor mode (so it's always on, giving you tuning info but NOT muted, way cool!) and I can change the color of the display. I trust that this tuner will be a stalwart and sturdy addition to my pedal board for years to come. The icing on the cake? It comes with a both a rubber pad (for proper floor use if desired) AND a velcro loop patch (for proper velcro pedal board placement) specifically cut to the dimensions of the back of the tuner! I'm soooo glad I didn't have to try to glue on some velcro. Peterson makes it so easy for you! What a great tuner! Worth every penny.

Best Tuner Pedal on the Market

By Eric from Delaware

For years, I often overlooked the importance of a high end tuner pedal. Somewhat due to ignorance, somewhat because I had other tonal priorities. That said, the way this pedal gets your guitar dialed in is like no other. The 3 options to handle your signal really makes a difference based on your board setup. My guitars and amps sound better than ever and I attribute that to a combination of how the pedal handles your signal, as well as how incredibly accurate tunings are with it. For not much more than many other tuner pedals, this one is a no brainer. I'll never use another tuner pedal after this. The color customizations and plethora of other options to make this thing your own are the cherries on top. If I ever have to assemble a second pedal board, I will buy another one of these without thinking.

Strobostomp pedle

Very happy with this tuner.

By Marc H. from Leander, TX
Music Background: Gigging bassist

TLDR version: Accurate. Fast. Works with multiple instruments easily. Has options that make it easy to work with if you have some vision impairment. Well worth the cost. The other bonus is that I'll give my Polytune 3 to my lead singer / rhythm guitarist so that he stops tuning audibly! The horror.....

I picked up this tuner last week and gigged with it last night. It replaced a Polytune 3 and I'm very happy with it. The very first thing that I learned with it was that my P bass needed it's intonation fixed. It was very much more apparent on this Strobostomp vs my Polytune.

I play bass (pretty decently) and banjo (fairly poorly) and I very much appreciated having one tuner with presets that are geared towards each instrument. It was very easy to setup the presets so the bass and banjo were right at the top of the menu so I didn't have to scroll, and each has different colors so I know at a glance which instrument is live.

My only issue, and this is a personal issue that might be a plus to a lot of people: I'm 50 years old and have cataracts that are scheduled to be fixed. The red LED in tune mode is SUPER bright and blows out almost my entire pedal board to my vision when it's lit. I can't see most of my board when it's on. Fixed with electrical tape and good to go.

However, since this pedal also has a palette of colors that you can choose from, it was great to be able to choose colors for both of my presets that were easy on the eyes and visible on an outdoor daytime stage.

Highly recommend.

A Strobe Tuner with great features

By Scott S. from Michigan
Music Background: gigging guitarist

I'll be honest, I was a bit nervous about getting a strobe tuner as all I ever heard was it's hard to read and get it stop on the correct tuning. However, I'm glad to report that is not the case. Smooth motion in the tuning mode. I really dig the tuning adjustments you can download to sweeten your specific instrument. The monitor mode is a nice plus too.

Best Tuner Ever

By Alan Z. from Eagle River, AK
Music Background: Gigging Musician

What can I say? This is the famous Peterson Tuner that everyone has seen at the guitar repair shops for years. With the big rotary spinner and all. Well, this is the pedalboard version and man it is slick! It is easy to use and has the ability to tune ANY instrument on earth. You pick out the "Sweetener" to use, guitar, violin, ukelele etc. then it spins to the right if your tuned high (sharp), and spins to the left if your low (flat). When it stops spinning, you're in tune. I love this thing! I have it on my pedalboard and I use it every time I play, at a gig or in my bedroom. I liked it so much; I bought the small clip-on one for my acoustic. Get yourself in tune today with this amazing professional tool!

This thing is the bomb!

By Dune from Ivins, UT
Music Background: Old road dog from the 80's.

Son of a band director, I grew up with Conn Strobotuners. Initially the ST-8 in the schools and later an ST-11 that I had on the road with me for 15 years. I eventually made the switch to a rack mount Sabine, but now that I'm doing more building and setup, going back to a Strobo tuner was a must. I LOVE this thing!!!

Great Tuner!

By Rob B. from Elmo, MO
Music Background: Played in bands when I got out of high school. Then life got in the way. Still played some once and a while so I didn't totally lose my skills. Retired now and serious about playing again. Making up for lost time.

I love this Peterson Strobostomp HD tuner. I use the default standard tuning for setting up my guitars and the sweetened tunings for playing. My guitars have never sounded better. If you're not a tech geek (which I am not) you might be a little intimidated at first by all the things it can do. But take your time and watch tutorials and you'll get it. If you make a mistake when you're trying to set up something of your own or you just don't like what you did you can always go back to the default setting at the push of a button. And even if you never try that side of things it's still worth it. The tuner is spot on accurate. The screen has excellent visibility and with a choice of colors you can choose which one works best for you. When you're playing live you can hit the switch and tune quietly then hit the switch and go right back to playing. In fact my brother-in-law had me call my Sweetwater sales rep and order one for him.

Be careful with velcro

By Jeff

Velcro base included. Excellent. Problem: it does not adhere well - adhesive layer stays on pedal, velcro stays on board = pedal flops in pedalboard case = damaged power input.
No biggie - open up and reheat solder joints.
Problem: tough case to open, when it finally gives, ribbon cable tears away. AAArgh.
Wish me luck, I may be buying another. Just heads up - don't use their velcro hook tape.
Otherwise, I've never enjoyed a tuner as much as this one. I will buy another if I cannot get this one working again.

I've broken the screen on two of these now. They are great strobe tuners but I won't buy another one because they can't handle touring. I like the tuning display and interface better than the sonic research strobe tuners, but will have to go back to SR just because they are built like tanks.

Lived up to my expectations and then some

By Jerry K. from Mishawaka, IN
Music Background: Hobbyists

I've been wanting a tuner that's capable to allow me to tune to a 432 concert pitch. My tried and tested Boss TU-3 (though exceptional) didn't allow me this option.

This tuner does way more than this though, and I haven't even began to explore all of the other features or functions.

I especially like how you're able to see if you're in tune even when the mute feature is off. Also, there's the option to change the display in a variety of different colors.

This tuner is built like a tank. I'm sure this will last me a very, very long time and I predict it will be a mainstay on my board for the foreseeable future.

It's salty at $, but I am more than happy with it and would purchase it again without hesitation.

Say Goodbye to Tuning Frustrations: The Peterson StroboStomp HD is a Tuner's Dream Come True

By Tony R.
Music Background: Home Musician

As a musician, I've spent years battling finicky, inaccurate tuners that left me frustrated and out of tune. I've tried the needle tuners, the digital clip-ons, even the fancy app-based ones, but none could ever quite nail the precision and reliability I needed. That is, until I found the Peterson StroboStomp HD. This pedal tuner is a game-changer—it's accurate to within 0.1 cents, meaning you can tune your instrument with pinpoint precision, and it's built like a tank, ensuring it'll withstand the rigors of the road.

Features I Love:

Unmatched Accuracy: The Peterson StroboStomp HD's true strobe tuning technology is simply the best in the business. No more squinting at needles or trying to decipher cryptic LED lights. This tuner shows you exactly how sharp or flat you are, in real-time and with stunning clarity.
Super-Versatile: This tuner isn't just for your standard guitar or bass tuning. It comes loaded with over 130 presets for a variety of instruments and tunings, from standard tunings to drop tunings to open tunings and more. You can even create and save your own custom tunings!
Built to Last: The StroboStomp HD is housed in a rugged, die-cast aluminum chassis that can handle anything you throw at it. It's got a bright, easy-to-read display that's visible in any lighting conditions, and a true bypass footswitch that ensures your tone stays pristine.
Bonus Features: This tuner is packed with thoughtful features that make it even more user-friendly, like a built-in tap tempo function, an adjustable backlight, and a USB port for firmware updates.
Overall Impression

The Peterson StroboStomp HD is, hands down, the best pedal tuner I've ever used. It's accurate, versatile, durable, and packed with features that make it a must-have for any musician who takes their sound seriously. If you're tired of dealing with subpar tuners, do yourself a favor and invest in the StroboStomp HD. You won't regret it.

Fast, Consistent

By Ed from USA

I'm not a very fancy person so this seems pretty expensive for a tuner, like 10x more than I would normally spend...however, even discounting the sweeteners, this is probably the quickest and most accurate tuner I've ever used. It's to the point where my wife will often plug in a contact mic to tune her various instruments (and she leave my cable unplugged!) So I guess don't get this if you're selfish, but otherwise we are delighted.

I love this pedal! It's extremely accurate (it's a Peterson so what do you expect) easy to use and the screen is huge which is a big help for me because I don't see very well. Super well made and has a built in buffer that you can turn off if you don't want to use it. Highly Recommended.

Amazing but...

By Christian

Great storbo function for setting up guitars. Obviously beautiful...

The main drawback is not being able to edit your tunings on the device itself. You have to connect it to a computer and program it in a web page interface... MANUALLY.
Like.. You have to know what you're doing and put the tuning descrepancies in by hand. It's terribly inefficient. There's no "learn" function which would make life much easier.

Great tuner; great buffer, too

By Zack from SoCal

I'm very happy with the tuning capability of this. My guitars sound much sweeter from using the Strobe (I tune all the E's on each string to the high e). It's also great for getting my intonation in check.

The biggest unforeseen benefit has been the buffer. I was so surprised by the effect it had on my new pedalboard. Since it's my first build, I didn't have the experience to speak to any sonic improvement gained with a decent buffer at the front of a signal chain, but I immediately noticed my dirt pedals sounded less muddy.

The build quality is excellent. Just holding it in your hand, you can feel by the weight distribution and density of the pedal that it's excellent. And it came with pre-cut velcro so I didn't have to get goo on the center sticker. So awesome!

Decent but I found it lacking

By Dan from Indiana

First thing that's annoying is the rubber bottom it has on it. Not sure why manufacturers do this. Velcro just doesn't stick to it well. So, this thing falls off my board on the regular when I'm loading it up. This wouldn't be an issue if you run a temple board I don't think. It also really struggles on bass guitars tuned down. It takes a while for it to track my low A, which is annoying. Plenty of tuners don't have this issue, but this one does. Or at least mine does. Overall, it's OK. There are better options for bass players in my opinion.

Peterson Strobo Stomp - yeah!

By Hal M. from Polk City, Florida
Music Background: I play in two bands, mine - The Bluegrass Pirates (bluegrasspirates.com) - the other The Gator Ridge Ramblers - and I host a bluegrass Jam in Dunedin, Fl

I've had the Peterson App on my iPhone forever - recommended by Use Kruger (Kruger Brothers), then got the clip-on's for each instrument (perfect when I'm playing acoustically/single mic) … but and however, I was longing to get the Strobo Stomp to add to my pedal board for both my banjo and guitar when playing those outdoor - sunny Florida gigs. I was finally able to do so and wow - I am thoroughly delighted.
seamlessly and were a breeze to set up (sweeters) and strobe wheel color.

They work perfectly with my XVIVE - wireless units.

Absolutely love them.

And my team at Sweetwater took care of my needs … with new stock in house and the shipping arrival date was even quicker than expected. Plus Halaj Mack (my direct connection) followed up to make sure everything was in order and that I was satisfied.

Highly recommended!

Strobostomp

By Jim from Minnesota
Music Background: Started playing out in 1964.

I already own about every Peterson tuner (and several of the clip ons) and also the app.

I play outdoor live gigs and the sun makes it hard to read the others.

This Strobostomp is what I use outdoors now. I love the ability to tune quietly and it is great.

I am very glad I bought it.

StroboStomp HD

By Charles W. from NM
Music Background: Duffer getting more serious

I have PolyTune pedal which has strobe tuning, cents tuning I believe it is called also. I used polytune's strobe regularly and also for the first time intonated my electric guitar myself using it. The advantage Peterson has in my view is the screen is more readable and looks larger, the display specs on Sweetwater don't give the areas for comparison. I tune one string at a time. The Peterson has a Guitar sweetener, presets to compensate for harmonic drift for fretted instruments. I feel I intonated more accurately with the Peterson and different targets with the guitar sweetener doing the cents down cents up adjustment from perfect pitch, I get a very happy result, particularly when playing along with records. Did it intonate more accurately or had I just not done as good a job with the Polytune? Don't know for sure. But I think the Peterson is the better pedal because of the results I did get in circumstances a bit clouded by my ignorance. I think it is the best of the two.

I was expecting it to be much better

By Michael

I mean it's accurate I'll give them that, but I'm just not a fan of the display wheels. Unlike many other tuners, this doesn't tell you exactly when you're in tune, or when you should stop twisting your guitar tuners. You're supposed to know you're in tune when the wheel stops on the note, but here's the thing, the wheel never comes to a complete stop. It's always shaking and it kinda hurts my eyes looking at it. Maybe it just takes time to get used to.

But that's not the only issue I've had with this pedal. It doesn't turn on/mute my amps as fast as my other tuner pedals, and I noticed you can ever so slightly hear your notes ring out through your speaker when you have the pedal engaged(I've tried all 3 settings on the back). It almost sounds like a string is buzzing and that's what I thought it was, but I switched back to my other tuner pedal and didn't hear this odd sound anymore, so it was determined to be the Peterson. Also tried different power supplies and pedal arrangements. Still had the issue. I'm also convinced this pedal sucks a bit of tone out of my rig.

Great tuner, so-so pedal

By NSD

As a tuner the StroboStomp HD is absolutely excellent and helped me solve a really frustrating intonation issue I'd bee struggling with for months in about 20 minutes. Having the right tool with the right resolution really makes a world of difference.

As a product it feels like a very inexperienced firmware engineer was taking direction from a PM with even less experience and the results are a bit of a buggy mess. The means of navigating the hierarchical menu system is utterly bizarre, only allows you to drill down--never up, and requires the memorization of some magic button combos better reserved for the popular fighting games of 1992. It also allows the user to wedge the entire OS with no means of escape save for yanking the power cord and forcing a reboot. Specifically, within the first 30 seconds of opening the thing and paging through the options I inadvertently disabled the "EQU" setting and then when I tried to back out of all the random changes I'd made without understanding all of them I invoked the magic key combo to disable whatever stupid "sweetener" I had gotten stuck on and the screen just locks up. No "exit," no "back," no nothing. It let you disable the default and now it's completely incapable of reconciling this state when you ask it to reset itself to the default. Horrible programming, horrible industrial design, horrible UX design. Never touch the side buttons and you'll be a lot happier.

The screen is also nowhere near as easy to read as they want you to believe it is. If you stare at it dead-on it's alright but if you shift your viewing angle by much it gets really, really dim. The refresh rate is also fairly abysmal and that matters a lot more than you think it would given the nature of the product. You the user are tasked with the chore of getting two animated wheels to stop spinning so when they're ghosting like crazy it's pretty tough.

Best tuner yet!

By Tim C. from Clarion, Iowa
Music Background: 60 years playing guitar. Writing and recording. No longer touring

I bought this tuner out of frustration. I have a very high end guitar with tuning problems. I had the Buzz Feiten tuning system installed hoping this would alleviate my pain, but there were still problems. The typical problems most guitars have. The thirds are hard to get right all over the neck, but pretty essential for recording. I fired my new tuner up with fresh, properly stretched strings and I tuned it to equal temperament. Perfect all up and down the neck! I had the original Strobo Stomp it was great but not as good as this one. So I took my high end acoustic and tried a Sweetened tuning for acoustics. Again perfect all up and down the neck. It's a quality piece of gear and I'm pretty sure it was less money than the original.
5 Stars!

Great tuner! But not so much for gigging...

By Basem E. from Costa Mesa, CA

Hello and thank you for reading my review!

Let me start by saying that this tuner is very accurate, and the settings you will actually need take very little time to understand. (waaaaay too many settings on this pedal)

I am not sure if there is anyone out there needing to change their concert pitch to a different A, but the feature is there.

Now for actual on the road use, here's my 2 cents:

The plug and play is nice, and I can change the color of my LCD to a color that works best in low lighting @ various venues by going into the settings. Great!

Now here's where this pedal is becoming a thumbs down for me...

The gaudy positioning of the buttons!

You go to plug your input in on the right side, and if you're not careful you'll push that freaking button and, before you know it, you're in DADGAD tuning? Acoustic tuning? Some unwanted profile setting?

If anyone can tell me how to deactivate these left/right buttons.. or something.. please let me know
Such a suggestion would absolutely redeem the pedal for me

Otherwise, just stick to a simpler tuner if you plan on gigging with this thing
The buttons on the left and right are just too sensitive, and not intuitive enough to keep you from opting into tuning settings you totally did not intend to.

Happy jamming!

Upside and downside

By Max H. from Santa Fe, NM
Music Background: Composer, recording artist.

Does the tuner job as I would expect a Peterson to, having been a piano tuner when Peterson was synomamous with "strobe tuner." However, I'm not a big fan of the ergonomics. The buttons are right next to the input, so plugging in I tend to hit those by mistake and change the settings. If you have it fixed to a pedalboard all the time and it's not #1 in the sequence that wouldn't be an issue. Other thing is I haven't found an easy way to turn off the display beyond just unplugging. I don't need it constantly telling me the pitch I'm playing. It also has way more settings and features that I'd ever use, so once I hit the wrong one, it can be hard to get back to just "guitar." But for tuning up, it's excellent.

Music Background: I've been playing for a Little while.

I was first exposed to Peterson Tuners in school band back in the early 80's, we would all tune to Standard 440 pitch.. ect.. ect.. I've used other stomp box tuners that get you close, the StroboStomp HD is Exact and the built-in sweeteners help even more for my Seven String Guitars which I have a difficult time getting to sound right using standard tuning. With the battery option I can purchase another one to keep in my guitar toolbox to use during string changes and setups.

Peterson Strobostomp is EXCELLENT!!! Best Guitar tuner EVER!

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Guitarist ( 40 years )

The Peterson Strobostomp was well packaged. I read over the instructions and installed the battery-the AC adapter is sold separately ( not a problem). The Peterson Strobostomp came to life when I plugged in my guitar. I went thru tuning my guitar ( 6 strings). This tuner is fantastic ( the best tuner ever)! The wide viewscreen showed the pitch of the note ( Example: E ) and the rotating wheel on the screen shows how many cents off perfect I was. I took the time to compare the harmonic note at the 12th fret to see how close the intonation was of that string! This tuning pedal IS a Peterson in a footpedal space! This product it GREAT! It gives you the visual representation of the Note and cents in tune. I will be checking intonation of my guitars as well as tuning them close to perfect!! This tuner is outstanding and I would highly recommend it to my friends. I know its price is a bit higher than run of the mill tuners, BUT IT IS WORTH IT. If you are going to perform OR record music, you need to know that your guitar is in tune across the neck, in tune and intonated. The Peterson Strobostomp is the tool you need. I purchased the Peterson Strobostomp thru Sweetwater because I KNOW Sweetwater sales and technicians care about guitar players like me. And, I know if I have questions or concerns about this product, my guitars, recording, the professionals at Sweetwater are only a phone call away and they are happy to help. Thank you, Sweetwater.

. The rubber pad on the bottom is good but it may not take replacement velcro if you have to pull the original off.
Second is keep the box unless its mounted to your board. The trade iff to a big display us it can get cracked pretty easy, i had this in my bag of cables to bring to a gig i dint need a board for and it got cracked first time out of my basement ,still 100% the best tuner i gave used and still 100% functional

Great for tuning! But, it's bulky and has a significant delay when switching.

By Sweetwater Customer

As many others have already covered, this thing tunes great. But, I ended up having to go back to my old polytune mini, because I like to also use my tuner pedal as a quick mute/unmute.

This pedal has a significant delay when switching (maybe a half a second to almost a second). So, I really can't rely on it for musically timed mutes/unmutes. If that is important to you as it is for me, you'll unfortunately probably not be satisfied with this pedal. Aside from that, it also is an oddly shaped large enclosure which could create issues for some people mounting it.

If Peterson released an updated version in a more standard sized/shaped enclosure with instant mute/unmute, I'd buy that immediately. If those things aren't dealbreakers for you, this is otherwise a very good tuner.

Strobe is the way to go!

By John from Florida
Music Background: Enthusiast

I was in the market for a tuner and asked Sweetwater Sales Engineer Mike Wright what he recommended of the models I had on my radar. He recommended the Peterson StroboStomp and am I glad he did. This thing is great! First of all, when powering up the pedalboard it defaults to the silent tuning mode so your neighbors can't hear your tuning shenanigans. As this the first and only tuner I've owned, I don't know if that's how other tuners work.

Compared to other tuners I've tried, I really like the strobe far better. It's provides an easy-to-see visual of how you're doing. They also have different tuning presets you can select from, plus you can create your own. What's also nice is you can change the color of the display for different tunings. For example, when the tuner is set to go down 1/2 step I changed the default display color to red. When it's regular tuning, I've set the default display color to blue. This way I know exactly what tuning mode it's on just by looking at the color.

The construction is solid. The display is bright and clear. Tuning is easier and more accurate. I'm glad Mike recommended this and wholeheartedly recommend it myself.

Missing some features I would prefer.

By Max H. from Santa Fe, NM
Music Background: Multi-instrumentalist, composer & recording artist.

It does its intended purpose just fine. However, I'd like to be able to turn off the display while plugged in, and I'd like to be able to dim the display. I don't know why Peterson thinks I need different color displays (I don't), but doesn't want me to have these other simple features.

ALSO, I'd like the pedal to display a numerical cents sharp/flat indication, along with the spinning wheel. The inexpensive Peterson tuner app on my phone give me both. Here, on this pedal ten times as expensive as the app, I just get the wheel.

Music Background: SemiPro (I have a day job)

I've used Peterson products for decades (since the 80's) and while I have worn a couple out it does take decades. Their customer support can not be beat. As a tuner it does a great job working with my 5 string. It is accurate enough to set your intonation with really high precision. A great tuner - with a slight learning curve

By Sweetwater Customer

I was previously using a Poly tuner. It worked fine, but I felt something was off. I seemed to be out of tune more than expected. I also had to tune a bit more than expected, which seemed in my case like the tuner wasn't entirely accurate. It could very well be my perception of it, however, so take with a grain of salt.
I bought the Strobostomp HD on sale, but it would have been worth it even if it was full price. I will say you need to spend some time with it and learn how it works. It can be a little intimidating at first if you don't consult the manual or the very helpful YouTube videos from Peterson. The customization options are really great. I should mention this is the second time I have had a StroboStomp HD. I didn't take the time to learn it the first time, and was thus, disappointed. One change I really like from the first time - they have added more browser options now, not just chrome. Lastly, this was a critical tool in setting my intonation.

Overall, highly recommended, provided you spend some time to get to know it.

This tuner is the best I have ever used. The display really easy to see and the strobe tuning extremely accurate. By Tom B. from Cary, NC

I never knew it existed until my SE, Marshall turned me onto it when I was looking at the Roland TU3. I needed something accurate enough to set intonation that clip-ons and chromatics just aren't that good for. There are a few quirks. The GUI is too much scrolling. The box had no list or description of the sweatened tunings. the pedal plugs in into mute mode and you can't really turn off the display... like ever. But I probably won't own another tuner except one of these again.

StroboStomp proves size doesn't matter....

By Sweetwater Customer

I grew up using an old and very large Perterson tuner, it was great for any instrument. Later I owned an original StroboStomp and StroboRack tuner that I had in my large late 80's, 90's and 2000's rack unit in L.A. and Nashville. This current version is the size of a small pedal that will fit on all but the smallest pedalboard. It does everything and more than all the other Petersons I have, and is at a very reasonable price. It works great playing out and is awesome when I do repairs. It has become essential on the road or on the bench for tune ups or full setups. It is extremely accurate, and Very Durable as well. What more can any musician or tech ask for? A must for anyone owning and playing a guitar, bass or any stringed instrument.

This tuner is built very well and very simple to use. The main reason I searched for this tuner is the ability to change color settings and the large display. I am blind and 100% color blind. I can no longer use smaller display tuners but this Peterson Strobe runer gave me the ability to see and use a tuner again.

Thanks,

Awesome

By Robert F. from Manchester Township, NJ
Music Background: Four string bass

This tuner is absolutely fantastic. Using a clip on tuner alone, I could never get stable tuning....I would always get flickering b's and #'s and settled for "good enough". However, when I tuned with the Peterson and then tuned with the clip on immediately after for comparison....I actually got the clip on to show a rock steady reading at the note, no flickering #'s or b's at all....telling me that I was dead accurate. I can hear the difference too ......my bass seems to have a more pure tone when playing with others thanks to the super accurate tuning of the Peterson. This tuner is all that it is advertised to be AND it has so much more: sweetened tunings, presets, A440 reference variations, three bypass configurations.

Best of the best!

Peterson StroboStomp HD Pedal Tuner

By Brian B.
Music Background: Pro musician of 50 years.

The pedal made it to my place in record time. I've been using it every day for the past couple of weeks with no malfunctions. It's solid with a good size display screen. You can even see it when standing over your pedal board without having to bend down to see it while you've got your guitar around your shoulder.

Clip on tuners are the Fanny packs of the guitar world

By Jereme R. from North Texas
Music Background: Home studio owner, public saxophonist.

No matter how beautiful your faux patina on your custom shop axe is, if you throw a clip on tuner on it, it just looks dorky. The clip on tuner is like a Fanny pack. No matter how awesome your outfit is...If you put a Fanny pack on, it all becomes dorky. That being said...this is the best tuner I have ever used. Incredible accuracy, fast response, cool color choices, muting options, and buffered/non buffered settings. Comes with a 9v battery inside it too. Got one for my guitar, and I liked it so much that I got one for my bass rig too.

The Peterson StroboStomp HD Tuner has multiple features that can be a bit much to navigate. However, I called Peterson and was connected to a gentleman who listened to my needs and patiently guided me through the various screens and settings to achieve what I needed. Anyone want to buy a used Korg Pitchblack cheap?? lol

Truly in tune, with 432!

By Wilson K. from Vermont
Music Background: Artist and writer, lifetime studio dweller

This device is easy to read and EXTREMELY accurate. It's the perfect tuner for a studio, as you can get every instrument on exactly the same page, great if you're a multi instrumentalist and do a lot of doubling and harmonies. For those of us that have decided to go with A=432 it is perfect.

It has more features than are really necessary, but you'll never be left wanting! I was laughing with a guitar center friend about the absurdity of a $150 tuner, now i don't know if i was ever actually in tune before i had it.

It is worth it if you wish to please the rock gods!

Strobo for the win

By James D. from Tulsa, OK

I had no idea how having a convenient tuner would help my ears. Growing up a drummer, I guess I never developed a good sense for pitch so when I started playing guitar my ears were indifferent to playing in tune. The unfortunate side effect of this is that I would rarely hear my own mistakes or be able to work a scale, etc. by ear. I have been playing through this tuner for about a month now and my ears are totally different. My everyday routine includes tuning first. This is my routine because tuning is quick, and I am very confident in the pitch due to the tuner's easy-to-read visual feedback. Other pedal board type/strobe tuners may be just as simple, accurate, and provide such efficient feedback, but that big screen on the Strobo and the moving semi-circle sure make it fast. My only nitpick is that I make an effort to buy U.S. made products and for some reason I thought this was, however, the manual notes "Made in China".

almost the perfect tuner

By Cory

extremely accurate tuner, HD construction and looks good. the two things that i ding it on is screen colors. most of them are not really view friendly, dark purple, super dark red, green, dark blue etc. maybe its just me. and the big ding i give it is the note letters are hard to read. a B note is the number 8 with two little horns on the ends, the D looks like an 8 as well. it is actually quite hard to figure out what it is at first. other than that it cant be beat.

Great Tuner, Bad DC Jacks

By Mark E. from Woodland, CA

I bought this tuner with a Pedal Train nano+. This tuner is exactly the same length as the pedal board, which means the DC jack from the power supply protruded past the edge.

My pedal board, inside of its padded bag, fell off my amp when I was loading in for a gig one night, and I guess it landed right on the DC input and broke it. These DC jacks are flush mount and have no chassis support. The only support they have are their terminals to the PCB. One of which broke, of course. Thankfully, I still had the included battery to get me through the gig.

I attempted to fix it myself and failed. I don't do batteries, so this one is getting donated. I'm somewhat reluctantly purchasing another one now. I will be taking precautions to protect the DC jacks.

I Love This Tuner

By Steve
Music Background: Professional Music Producer & Engineer

I love this tuner. I work in a studio and I'm constantly tuning guitars. I had a couple tuners that were cool but didn't feel as accurate as I would've liked. This one has blown my mind with how precise it is and I am loving it to death. Worth every penny to me. Took a bit of getting used to the strobe style tuning but I actually prefer it now. Haven't even dipped into all the features yet. It just sits at my side, always on, while I'm recording guitars. I have tried all the different screen colors; some seem to be more visible than others based on my viewing angle while recording so it's a very cool option to be able to change that on the fly. Overall, I love it. Very happy with this tuner.

Peterson really thought this thing out. From the beautiful multi colored display to the switchable buffer. It tracks the notes extremely well, even the low B string on my bass.
The only gripe I have is removing the nasty adhesive on the bottom so I could mount it on my pedal board. Other than that, super happy with it.

Wow! Is there ANYTHING this pedal can't do?? I truly wish that I had purchased one sooner !! And they included a piece of stick on Velcro that had the cut out so that You can read the serial number ! I'm still figuring out just how many things this will do, but right out of the box, it's awesome! There is a switch inside the battery compartment to set it for true bypass or buffered output. I'm currently using the sweetened tuning for guitars. This pedal is worth the cost and I highly recommend it! YES!!!

By Sweetwater Customer

When your band mate accuses your tuner of being a "liar" then it's time to get a new tuner! So I did, and good grief is this a wonderfully accurate tuner. I use the app and been using their clip on for years so this was a fairly obvious choice. Peterson though really did an excellent job with the craftsmanship and quality. This baby tracks immediately and honestly doesn't hurt that you can have 10 different screen colors! Best tuner I've ever used and it's not even close.

Buy this only if you care about being in tune and properly intonated

By Russ W.

Bought this mainly for intonation purposes. I received it yesterday and, bam, right out of the box I had four guitars intonated within 30 minutes (grant it they were already pretty close). I just put in the battery (which is included), plugged in a guitar, and I was off and running. The accuracy is incredible, the display is nice and bright, and it feels solid as a rock. I know this has a lot more bells and whistles, and I'm looking forward to learning everything it can do, but it's already doing exactly what I need it to do (and with a zero learning curve).

As for Sweetwater, well, once again service was flawless. I placed the order on Saturday and received the tuner on Tuesday. Occasionally I'll need something the same day and, after getting my strength up, I'll head to the local Guitar Center. Nine times out of 10 they won't have it, or the person won't know what I'm talking about (went in looking for volume pots and the guy handed me an output jack). GC should take a lesson from Sweetwater.

Absolute Perfection !

By Gary R. from Meadview, AZ
Music Background: 30+ years as a serious hobbyist

This may be the best investment I have ever made to my arsenal. I have been using the Boss TU-3 chromatic tuners for years and it works fine, but the Peterson strobe is in a league of its own. It works superbly for setting intonation also which I really like. All of my guitars were close using the Boss TU-3, but the Peterson strobe made them all perfect.
It is extremely sensitive, but once you get your guitar intonated and tuned it just sounds better to me. It also has several other functions like special artist tunings and drop tuning abilities that I may never use, but they are there if I ever decide to try them.
This tuner is an investment in my opinion and a tool that will definitely make my playing more enjoyable. It is worth the extra money, believe me.

Best Tuner Pedal I’ve Used

By John from Alaska
Music Background: Experienced

This thing checks all the boxes: very accurate, easy to use, lots of options… but the one you don't hear about in other reviews is the excellent buffer this pedal has.

Switching between TB and buffered output I can definitely hear the difference between this pedal and other buffered pedals with lower quality components. Want to throw this thing in front of your treble booster or fuzz? Use TB. Want to drive a large pedalboard or signal chain? Pop on the buffer without worrying about it having any negative effects on your tone.

Along with all the other awesome features this pedal has, it's a no-brainer for a premium tuner

Awesome Guitar Tuner

By Robert M. from Arnold, MD
Music Background: Plating guitar since 1968

This In-line tuner is very precise. It helped me set the intonation of my Strat Ultra and AM Pro II Tele.
The display is nice and large, easy to see, and the foot pedal switch is a benefit for switching from live sound to silent tuner. The tuner displays and functions in either footswitch position. I use it powered with a 120V adapter, since the unit always stays on as long you have a cable plugged in to it. Since it is on all the time, I think batteries wouldn't last that long.
I also have a Peterson clip-on tuner, which works perfectly as well. This is a brand I trust. Pricing is very reasonable for a quality tuner like this.

WHY didn't I buy this sooner? Velcro tips included.

By Ron i.

June 28th 2021.
My tuner was delivered this morning. There is nothing positive about this tuner that I could say that hasn't already been said. JUST BUY IT ALREADY. My review will be about the velcro issues negatively stated in other review. I read so many reviews until I got a headache and then I kept reading. A lot of the reviews that discussed velcro issues in them didn't say anything about the included velcro that came with their tuners. On June 28th 2021 I received my tuner. Upon opening the box and taking the tuner out I was surprised to find a piece of velcro in the bottom of the box. Most reviews I read had a con regarding velcro not sticking to the rubber pad on the bottom of the tuner. Even when wiping it with various chemicals to remove any manufacturing residue. None mentioned the included velcro either. Some peoples solution to the problem was to remove the factory rubber bottom and apply their velcro directly to the metal casing. Which works but contains another small issue. The tuners serial number, which is required for warranty registration and to use the Peterson connect, is on a sticker stuck to the rubber pad. If you are removing the rubber pad you now have to archive the serial number somehow. Either keeping the rubber pad FOREVER without losing it or some other form of logging the serial number like emailing it to yourself etc. After inspecting the included velcro, it seems Peterson was aware of the velcro issue and has made an attempt to resolve it. Not only is the included velcro a 3M high quality piece but it also has a square cutout that doesn't hide the serial number sticker when applied. Way to go Peterson.
Here are some things that I did when installing my included velcro.
1. Prior to installation I wiped the factory rubber pad with isopropyl alcohol.
2. I let it sit for about 20 minutes to make sure it was completely dry.
3. I took my time to make sure when applying it that it did not cover the battery door or the two screws at the top of the casing.
4.Do NOT stick it on your pedal board/etc right away and test the velcro. It WILL come off. The glue on the velcro must cure to adhere properly to your tuners rubber pad. Read the instructions on any velcro or glue for that matter and they have a recommend cure time.
5. I let my tuner sit on my desk with a soft cloth over it and a light ankle weight, I think it's a 5 or 10 pound weight, on top of it. I let this sit for TWENTY FOUR hours before I stuck it to my board and then tried to remove it. Zero issues removing it. Whether you are using the included velcro or your own MAKE SURE it is of high quality like 3M. If purchasing your own velcro I recommend the 3M 250. That stuff could hold things onto the outside of the space shuttle while hurtling through the atmosphere to get to outer space. Last but definitely not least a shout-out to my expert personal sales engineer, Aaron Tremain. Aaron ALWAYS "knocks it out of the Park" as I tell him, with his gear recommendations, answers to questions I may have, he gone over and above to resolve any issues I have after receiving my order. By the way in all the years I have been ordering from Sweetwater I've had ONE issue. That was the delivery companies fault but Aaron immediately handled it and got my replacement gear to me the next day.

Generally Good but completely missing a Cents display feature.

By Matthew S. from Colorado

I use this as my main reference tuner for all my setups (I'm my own guitar tech). It's generally stellar. The buffer works as advertised and the mute switch is nice. It would be great if you could control the time integration factor to keep the display from jumping so quickly. Especially since guitar pitch is generally super unstable. This is minor though.

What is not minor is the tuner is missing the ability to actually display a numeric "cents off" value.

This drives me crazy when trying to set intonation accurately or decide if you need a compensated nut. Even the basic Phone tuner apps (which generally work really well) do. It is mind boggling that this pedal is missing that feature. It never even occurred to me to ask before I bought it. I had hoped it would be in a firmware update, but no.

Seriously Peterson?

Buy this pedal now!

By Brig Y.
Music Background: Semi Pro (music pays for my toys, day job pays my bills) I own a small studio and perform live.

I've been using this tool now for 3 days. I've got about 8 hours of playing using it now.

1st: this pedal is dead on accurate featuring multiple scale temperings that can totally change how chords ring out. (We are assuming that your guitar is stable and can maintain a tuning and your strings are broken in)
2nd: I favor EVH style tuning and use A:430, I've always done the EVH adjustment by ear. It took me two minutes to set this pedal up to do this automatically - and silently - great for performance.
3rd: A single couple of clicks on the side buttons can but you into a whole other world of tunings that can be single click (side switch, not the foot pedal).

Like most guitarists I have used numerous tuners. I've been using the built-in tuner on my Eleven Rack via the button on the front. Its an OK tuner but very inconvenient compared to a stomp box. (Onstage my Eleven Rack is on the floor and stomping the faceplate doesn't seem like a good idea (LOL) and I don't use a midi pedal to control it.

If guitar is just a hobby this may be too much (but you will still love it), if you perform on stage or in studio you already know that Peterson is the industry standard - the strobo-stomp puts this glorious technology on your pedalboard at a dirt cheap price point.

I use three guitars each for different styles of music: Metal, HardRock and (Texas style) Blues. Each has a different tuning, such as my Stratocaster is on Eb (A:440), Ibanez Metal guitar is E (A:430) and Ibanez HardRock is Eb (A:430). With the Strobo Stomp a single (side) switch click gets me there. I use EVH tempering on all of them.

I use the Strobo in "Monitor Mode" (MM) in line after a boost pedal and the switch is a Mute button with a very bright red LED to warn you that your guitar is MUTED..

CONS:
1st: This pedal has a lot of functions and takes some study to get it set up (Most useful things tend to be complex)
2nd: This pedal WILL tone suck a volume pedal with a Tuner port. I would use it inline after your boost/buffer pedal.

Basically everything I could want in a tuner.

By Landon S. from West Jordan, UT
Music Background: Amateur

I should start out by saying I've honestly never been a fan of strobe tuners in the past. I'm still not quite as comfortable with using them as I am with my previous tuners, but this one had enough versatility to make me take that plunge.
I have to say this may be over-engineered in that there are so many options I don't know if I'll ever use them all, but not so overly-engineered that it makes it hard to use.
I haven't even messed with the "sweetened" tunings yet, but it is an intriguing option.
This may be a dumb thing to care about but I like being able to change the colors on the display. Not only does it feel more personalized, but if I ever find myself in a situation where one color doesn't work for any reason, I could change it. But for now I love the sort of teal-blue I settled on.
The one thing that did just about drive me nuts until I found how to adjust it was the default "Monitor Mode" setting meaning the display was always on when the pedal had power. I switched that to a mode which allows the screen to shut off when I'm not using it, and voila, it's perfect.
The rubber on the bottom made fixing it to my pedalboard pretty much a no-go, but it stays in place quite well without any help.

I think a tuner is much more a tool than just about any other type of pedal, since it is much more for function than a subjective sound quality you might be chasing. For me, this tool is fantastic. The tuning on my guitar is still only as accurate as the guitar, strings, tuners, etc. not to mention my own fingers, can get it, but with the accuracy of this tuner I feel more confident that everything else is doing it's job too.

Easy, accurate tuning

By Robert B. from Cumming, GA
Music Background: Acoustic Guitarist, Electric Guitarist, Worship Leader, Sound Engineer

For reference, I was using Peterson's iStrobosoft tuning app before this, and occasionally a PolyTune. I love the iStrobosoft app for it's accuracy and sweeteners, and wanted that same functionality in a pedal where I didn't have to worry about noise from other musicians warming up around me. This does exactly that. I get the legendary Peterson strobe accuracy, and their sweeteners, in a simple pedal format. The act of tuning and switching sweeteners is super easy. And I like that they give you the option of buffered always on, buffered mute, and true bypass mute.

Some downsides: configuring the pedal at the start isn't the easiest thing since you're limited to 4 buttons on the side. Luckily, it's pretty intuitive, but it's not easy. Second is the foam padding on the entire back means if you want to stick it on a pedalboard, it might be more involved than just sticking velcro to the back. They say it can possibly work even with the foam, but also suggest taking off the foam if the velcro won't stick. Mine came with precut velcro if I wanted it, but I decided that there are plenty of times I would want to have this pedal even when I bring a pedalboard, so I just stuck a battery in it and left the foam on. If I want a pedalboard, then I have a patch cable to stick it between my pedalboard and my guitar, and put it on the floor next to the pedalboard, and I'm good.

Both of those downsides don't bother me in actual use. The third downside (that most pedals don't even offer anyway) is that I sometimes wish it told me exactly how many cents sharp or flat I was like their phone app does.

I mention a lot of downsides, but I absolutely love this pedal. It is way better than everything I've used before now, and I strongly suspect this will be my forever tuner pedal.

Peterson is the Best!

By Long t.

I have been holding out on purchasing the stomp tuner due to the fact that my other one which is the blue on the right of the pics , works perfectly fine, and it gets used a lot, which I also bought from Sweetwater in the fall of 1998. Yes,(pre-internet) almost 24 years ago to today. Now I know why Peterson products are expensive, they are made well and with basic proper care and common sense, well you get the hint.

Now as for the new stomp, It definitely exceeded my expectations as well as the features compared to my older unit.
This New Peterson Stomp will probably outlast me this time. Lol!

And of course a BIG Thanks to Tad S. (Sweetwater SE) your the real Rokkstar!

Again...another order fm sweetwater with a thumbs up fm Matt C. for recommending this tuner !!! I might b jumping the gun on giving it a 5 star this early ONLY because so far i've only used the tuning part of it...and it is great !!! There's a lot more this stomper will do but i cant put my bass down long enuf to play with the many different functions this can do...but will tell u that i have spent many thousands of dollars at sweetwater buying acoustic guitars, a les paul, drums, amps, and countless accessories and with the exception of a 12 dollar snark tuner that got crushed in shipping (which a replacement got mailed out same day), i've been totally happy with everything ordered and got...so am sure this stomp tuner will deliver what it says will do...will give a better update when i spend more time with it...also is built like rock and easy to read in dark...

Best.Tuner.Ever

By Gene H. from Columbia, MS
Music Background: Church musician

I purchased a Peterson StroboClip tuner a while back and was very impressed with the ease of use and accuracy. My guitars were finally really in tune. It was great! So I bought the StroboStomp to add to my rig at church. Love it! Peterson has won a fan for life. If you do not have a Peterson tuner, you are probably not in tune.

Sorry I waited so long....

By Michael from Georgia

I'd seen the strobe tuners in the past, but they just seemed too complicated to understand. Coming from the world of green meters that simply show sharp or flat, this little gem is everything I'd hoped it would be. Tuning isn't nearly as daunting as expected, it accurately shows you every note AND includes sweetening presets that give you just that extra touch you can't get anywhere else.

Having added this to my pedalboard, I could never use anything else now. A must buy, especially for those who use a lot alternate tunings like me.

Best Pedal Tuner Money Can Buy.

By Anthony . from Scranton

Hands down the most accurate tuner I've ever owned. Works fantastic and is easy to see and read. Really made a difference in my tuning and setups as well. The switchable buffer is fantastic since most of my boosts and fuzzes don't like buffers.

Strobostomp HD. Excellent tuner with great flexibility. One important thing seems to be missing though...

By Quinn H. from Cleveland, Ohio

I'm enjoying this tuner. I use it to get fairly accurate and repeatable alternate tunings for the microtonal guitars that I'm building.

Very easy to change the A reference point. I set mine to 432Hz. I haven't created my own sweetened setting yet, which you will definitely need to do if you are looking for a fine level of detail in your tunings. I don't see why this feature won't work as expected.

One important feature seems to be missing though, which is why only three stars. I can't find anywhere to be able to view cents! A strobe tuner without the ability to read cents is a real oversight. This is a level of detail that I'm looking for, and expected with this tuner. If I'm missing the way to do this please let me know. If it's not there, WTF! Maybe it's something that they will add soon with a firmware update.

Last but not least, the service for Sweetwater is amazing! My tuner had a spider crack in the screen. Jacob happened to call me the day I noticed it. He wanted to know how things were going with my purchase. I told him about the crack, and in record time had a new one being sent out to me with a shipping label to send back the broken one. Easy!I got the replacement the next day!

What can I say, Sweetwater has exceeded my expectations. The Strobostomp HD is very good but is disappointing without the ability to view cents. Maybe it's not as accurate as they claim, and that's why the feature isn't there? Or maybe it's hidden in a menu. Either way it should be right there on the screen for me to read. It is a strobe tuner after all. Very silly.

Extremely accurate and versatile

By Wayne D. from Cuddebackville, NY

By far the best tuner I've used. I've been using slightly adjusted tunings (a few cents on various strings) and this tuner lets me program those changes. It also includes a ton of their "Sweetened" tunings- which are variations by a few cents here and there depending on what you need, as well as various open tunings. You easily scroll through your favorites on the tuner.

Best floor tuner I've ever used

By Evan D. from SPRINGFIELD, MO
Music Background: 20 years of guitar, bass, singing, songwriting, recording and live shows

I've been playing guitar for over 20 years and for some reason I just never bought a high end quality floor tuner. I relied on clip on tuners, built in guitar tuners and sometimes tuners that were included in a pedal board. This thing is incredible and I'll never go back to any of that crap. The large visual display is so easy to read on stage and the response it has when you go from string to string is almost instant. Makes tuning so easy and so accurate. I love leaving it on the default setting where it's always displaying while your playing so you can easily tune on the fly in the middle of a show. It also has true bypass if you want to use that instead. The strobe display allows you tune so precisely and it's very intuitive where you'll understand exactly how to use it as soon as you pluck a string through this thing. If you're the only one in your band that has this, have everyone else tune to you.

Very different then what I am use to. There was a learning curve, but easy enough. More accurate then my previous ones so it takes a few seconds more to nail it. Still, I'd buy again and likely will only buy this brand from now on unless something really kicks, you know, comes out.

wonderful tool

By Rob S. from Portland OR, USA
Music Background: Professional musician

Over fifty years playing bass here. I see a lot of favorable reviews here already, so maybe one more is un-necessary. This is absolutely the most practical tuner available either for stage or studio performance, practicing, or adjusting intonation on the bench.

I bought one of the original Strobo Stomp tuners when they first came out, around 2001. It has been used daily ever since. It has been repaired twice at the Peterson factory, once at no cost to me even though it was years past the warranty, and the second time for a very reasonable charge. The service was absolutely first class, and amazingly fast. Recently I bought the newest design for my grand daughter, who has been playing bass now for three years. Although my faithful old blue Strobostomp still works perfectly, the latest one has several very good features that convinced me it was time to upgrade. The first improvement is size, it is now smaller in every dimension, with I really appreciate. Despite the case being smaller, the display is significantly bigger, and easier to see at a glance. The color of the display can now be changed, which will be handy in situations where stage lights or bright sun sometimes make the blue and grey graphics hard to see. The biggest improvement to my mind is the ability to name notes as flats rather than sharps when appropriate. Calling B flat A sharp never seemed right.

Best tuner pedal I've ever used

By Dan from Michigan
Music Background: I was in a band once

I started playing music in my elementary school's orchestra class. The school had a stroboscopic tuner (probably a Peterson 400), so I quickly learned how much more accurate the machine was when compared to my own ears. In the world of guitar tuners, I have found that all the LED needle-type tuners have been pretty unstable when compared to that original strobe, so I was really excited when I saw this tuner in some YouTube videos. I love the fact that the bypass mode is customizable. The only thing it doesn't seem to do is simultaneous polyphonic tuning, but that's a sacrifice I'm more than willing to make for tuning accuracy.

Peterson StroboStomp HD Pedal Tuner

By Sweetwater Customer

I have been a professional (meaning paid) musician on and off for over 50 years, and have run a music industry parts manufacturing business for over 30 of those. I am thus exceedingly familiar with a vast array of luthiery tools, musical performance related products... and customer service. Having had this strobe tuner malfunction and not having had the courtesy of a reply to my inquiry to Peterson has led me to write this review. Whereas this tuner may be fine when successfully set-up as a permanent mount, it appears to be about 50% of bulletproof for the rigors of live performance. Specifically, Peterson does not provide a dedicated wall transformer with the tuner (as does Korg). Common 9V DC transformer plugs have two forks: one hot and one neutral. They are the 'same' size. If, while setting up for a live performance, you plug your transformer into AC with these two identical forks flipped, you having instantly reversed the polarity from what is correct for the tuner and you may have permanently damaged the unit. You appear to have a 50/50 chance of getting it right. You would not even see it coming while on-stage under compromised lighting and/or other musician-related distractions. But right then and there, the tuner will not work for you. The manual does warn that you had better get it right. But Peterson is not of service to you by simply having provided the proper dedicated transformer, or even describing how you would know whether the transformer you supply is being used properly. The company has basically left you at needless risk of destroying your purchase. If I am in error I urge Peterson to state what, in their view, are their facts on this matter.

There really is a difference

By Jack R. from Fort Worth, TX

I've used all kinds of tuners over the years. Still have a TU-3 that has been my main tuner but thought I'd try the Strobostomp HD due to the rave reviews. It's great. Takes a bit to get accustomed to the strobe tuning style but once you get it you will see the difference. The GTR sweetened tuning works wonders on my Gibson electrics that typically have the G and B string minor issues. It's not that the other tuners don't do their job - this one just does it better.

Best Tuner I have ever used

By Michael C. from Santa Fe, NM

Tuning any stringed instrument can be tricky. I have used a wide variety of different style tuners and have to say the StroboStomp HD is by far the best tuner I have ever used. The Sweetened tunings for both acoustic and electric guitars are perfect--and I mean right on the nose perfect. It also has a plethora of other tuning options so you can dial in pretty much any tuning you need. Forget everything else and just buy this tuner. You will not regret it.

More than just a Tuner!

By Vonriggs from Motown

I bought this so I could save money on setups, but it offers so much more. Not only can I set my intonation, I can put it on my pedalboard, use alternate tunings, change colors and use it for a myriad of other instruments. The only reason I didn't give it 5 Stars is it falls forward if you want to stand it upright because the front edge is curved. I just lean it a little and it's great for viewing head on as opposed to laying flat. It's Very sturdy and I'm sure it will offer many years of operation.

On the Buffer ....

By Zack Z. from MIDDLEBURY, VT
Music Background: Former gigger, now hobbyist

Others have said how accurate this tuner is. It sure is - I replaced a Popular Name Brand tuner with this, and immediately heard a difference in my rhythm playing, even before I tried the sweetened tunings.

But the buffer is like, REALLY good, you guys. I have a couple other buffer/switchable pedals, and just for funsies I moved them all around to see which worked best. This didn't have quite as much transparent 'oomph' as my dedicated buffer, but was much better than my other pedals with a built-in buffer.

Also, this thing is WAAAAAAAAAY sexier in person. The brushed metal casing is just SO much more attractive that it looks in the photos, and it feels way more solid that the photos lead you to believe.

This is the nicest tuner I have ever used. I have had several other tuners, plug in, clip on, meter, led whatever. Some were good some not so much. Super Accurate!

By Dave K. from MN
Music Background: Working and Recording Guitarist

I have a Korg DTR-1 Tuner in my rack, but no matter how many times I re-calibrated it, I could hear that my guitar was not in perfect tune. It got me close, but it's not a very steady meter to read and even if it shows up as green (in tune), I could hear it was not.

I got the StroboStomp HD for multiple reasons. Mainly, to have a REAL strobe tuner for setting intonation.
But to have that kind of accuracy available *as* I play is just too awesome!
The "sweetened tunings" (download the manual and read about it) that come with the unit are awesome and probably part of the reason my Drop-D, and 6&7 guitars all sound better than before.

Would highly recommend!!

I have a very sensitive ear for pitch and when this tuner says you're 'not quite yet' in tune, it's still more accurate than when the other ones say you're in tune. Incredibly precise and I will never use another tuner again.

So much versatility for a tuner!

By Ian from Indiana
Music Background: Guitar player for 19 years

I switched from a PolyTune mini, which I didn't have any problems with. However, after switching to the Strobostomp HD I totally understand what all of the hype is about. It is a great tuner that is quick to get the hang of and makes tuning your guitar even easier. I love being able to change the color of the display. I never thought I would like to have a tuner that I use always on. It is great though. I like being able to tell if my bends are correct and if the chords I play with a capo are correct. It is a great addition to any board. The negative I had was getting used to how different the display is compared to any other tuner I've used. It is easy to learn though and makes life much easier.

Best Compact Tuner

By fjk1138 from Illinois
Music Background: Musician for 40 years

I've had several tuners over the years (including the Peterson Strobosoft software for PC), but none of them were this compact AND extremely accurate at the same time. Lots of options and super easy to use, plus Peterson's website has a large number of demo videos for it, though I probably won't use most of the features this unit has to offer.

The "spinning" on the display while tuning is super accurate where even minute tuning adjustments make a difference. I like that you can change colors with certain tunings (or just because you want to) and that by using the software you can literally pick just about any color in the visible spectrum that you want.

I tried one of the sweetened guitar tunings and found it to be a bit off for what I was working on, but then again I usually have to tune to a meter and then make minor adjustments when recording regardless, so this is no fault of the unit itself.

If there was one MINOR flaw of the unit it's that it can be hard to read from certain angles - you basically have to be right over it in order to see it best. If you don't want it on the floor and/or are sitting down just prop it up on an angle with something (I use a tablet/phone stand) and you can see it just fine.

I'm also taking off one 1/2 of a star due to the fact there is no supplied power adapter. Every other pedal I've ever bought came with one, so I am not sure what that was about.

Regardless, it's an awesome tuner and I recommend it highly.

Stunningly Superior Stroboscopic Tuner

By Jimmy

Amongst its vast array of features, the six that sold me on the Peterson StroboStomp HD™ Tuner Pedal: The absolutely stunning and dazzling clarity of the high definition and massive multi-colour display, the amazingly accurate stability of the turning strobe, the 100% pop-less true-bypass operation, the solid build quality, the über-sexy design, and the overall ease of use. I own the previous version, the (Stomp Classic), and whilst both of these units share the same 0.1 cent accuracy specification; the newer StroboStomp HD's display resolution is phenomenally better and is absolutely essential for adjusting and precisely setting a guitar's intonation. This stunningly superior stroboscopic tuner — buy it! Highly recommended!

Peterson StroboStomp

By Kenneth W. from Fort Worth, TX

Not much else to say with the hundreds of reviews of the StroboStomp. Works great, very easy to read. It is pretty much the size of a full size pedal so you can't squeeze it in on some random corner of your board as easily as some smaller tuners, but even turned sideways in a corner, it still would be very easy to read. Well worth the cost and space.

Bought one for my son as he has a few guitars in alternative tunings and this tuner even deals with 1/4 step down etc - yet to see how the display is In sunlight but I can already tell it'll be very visible - it's that cool I'm buying my self one for my board -
When you price this against the competition it wins for me personally - no brainer

Fantastic Tuner-Minor Mod for best dual lock adhesion

By Chris from Philadelphia

This is a great tuner. I run mine first in my chain, primarily in Buffered Monitor Mode, and use it as a mute. I have it set up with a sweetened Tuning for my electrics and a different tuning for my acoustics. Love having the ability to customize the color of the display to help identify which tuning I am using.
One suggestion for when mounting to a pedal board, (I suggest this as someone who has no intention of reselling this). On the back of the pedal, along the top, lay a piece of dual lock (just to measure, don't stick it on yet), over the width of the pedal and score the foam backing with an exacto blade. Then peel off the strip of foam backing and then stick your dual lock on there. Then peel off the piece of foam on the battery lid. Cut a piece of dual lock to fit only over the battery lid, (leaving room to access the latch, if you need to change between TB/BB/MM.)

Great unit!

I've been using strobe tuners since the Conn strobe tuner in the olden days. Love this, more features than I need, but that's not bad. Much more accurate than clip ons or other pedals.

Peterson StrobeostompHD

By Scott P. from Knoxville TN.

Four stars. Not that easy to navigate the buttons to get to all 130 tunings, as most of those are "hidden". Once set up choosing the ones you want to use, it's great. This pedal is well made though. Bypass, so it's no clicking on off. Sweetened tunings are great. I thought single notes would sound better, but what sounds better are chords. Can't get a guitar in tune any better. Price wasn't much more than my Boss TU3 that I replaced.

In Perfect Tune

By WCW from Texas

Great tuner. The menu took me a moment to figure out, but not difficult. This unit is very accurate I believe. The sweetened tubings do help bring out the best in sound, and are great for on the fly changes. Of the sweetened tunings, I primarily use the sweetened guitar for standard tuning, the Jimi for playing in Eb and a couple open tunings(E, G, D). The ability to have each tuning set to a different screen color also helps to identify/remember what tuning your on when you can't see the text clearly on the screen. Appears built well and Peterson's site has tons of helpful info including a full video how to series. I like it enough I ordered the clip on style for my acoustic.

Tuner

By Lonnie T. from Gulkana Village Alaska
Music Background: guitar player since 1970.

So far I am happy with this tuner, I can say that I'm still getting familiarized with this tuner. I like that I can down tune or tune to just as if I was using a capo with accuracy. And the different colors for each settings, I'm sure that there's more to discover with this device.

Yeah, it's pretty awesome

By Mike from St Petersburg, FL
Music Background: Long time amateur guitarist

When evaluating a new piece of gear, the bottom line for me is 'does it make my playing sound better?' Yes, it does. A lot better. Am I happy I spent ten times the price of a typical headstock tuner? Yes, I am. No doubt. It makes that much of a difference. It's easy to use, and it's built like an armored car.

Absolutely The Best Stomp Box Tuner Available!

By Ed from Peoria, Illinois
Music Background: 40 year guitar player

Ever since I was a kid, I have been impressed with the accuracy of the Peterson strobe tuners. I would occasionally bring my guitar to the band room at school in order to get it tuned with the music department's Peterson strobe. Years later, my guitar tech would keep my guitars perfectly set up and in tune using a Peterson strobe; and all the while, I wished that there was such a thing as a strobe tuner foot pedal for my rig when I was playing gigs. Now there is one and it's even by Peterson! Absolutely the best tuner pedal I have ever owned. Thank you Nick and Sweetwater!

Hands down the best tuner I have ever used

By Thomas S. from Virginia

Accuracy is what tuning is all about... and this device delivers. I consider it to be one of the best products I have ever purchased. It's that good. And it's also well made; projecting quality from the moment one opens the box. If you are ready to graduate up and away from inexpensive tuners and less than stellar accuracy... this is your ticket.

By Eric O. from VA, USA
Music Background: Over 40 years of chasing tone

Just buy one and be done with it. Considering the cost of a Peterson ten years ago this thing is literally a steal. You will never need another tuner unless you have multiple boards then buy more. Best tuner I have ever used like everyone else has said.

Another Great Peterson Product

By Thomas B. from Baton Rouge, LA
Music Background: Avid Picker for Personal enjoyment for 40 years

After using my Peterson StroboClip headstock style tuner on my acoustic for the last year I was eyeing this StroboStompHD tuner for my pedalboard. I placed it on my board and hooked it up. Voila! This strobe tuner is even better than my little clip-on. It does everything it's designed to do and a bunch more. I like the way it can be preset with capo, drop tuning and "sweetened" options, which will prove handy when I'm on stage and switching between my acoustic and electrics. The big (bigger than it looks in the photo) display is bright, easy-to-read and you can change the color for each preset. This tuner's range is plenty enough to do a great job intonating your guitars and it's sensitivity and accuracy is even better than my standard machine heads can dial in. If I found anything at all that was a drawback it's that the big rubber pad on the back doesn't stick well to Velcro® strips, so I'll need to cut a couple a bit longer and wrap them up the sides so they'll stay on, a minor matter considering how this tuner is so well made. Another great feature is the electability between: on/off-true bypass; on/buffered bypass; and on/real-time monitoring & buffered bypass settings. So far I've had it set on the on/real-time monitoring& buffered bypass setting and can't tell it's even in my pedal chain. This is a great tuner especially if you like to tune accurately.

My 4th Strobe Tuner!

By John from Midwest
Music Background: 50 Years of Playing (and tuning) Guitars

I bought my first Strobe Tuner back in 1974 and I'm still using it to this day. I've set the intonation on many, many guitars using that tuner. Over the years they've made them in different sizes and configurations and this StroboStomp HD Pedal Tuner is my favorite. With over 130 different presets and a big, beautiful display it just doesn't get any better than this. A must have when gigging on a dark stage. Thank you Sales Engineer Bart Good for letting me know about this great tuner!

Don’t Put Off Buying This Tuner Any Longer

By Jeremy B. from Florida
Music Background: Gigging Musician

First a quick anecdote:

This tuner is so accurate that anyone not using it may sound out of tune; I will explain how you can overcome this problem. I was playing a gig and used the tuner for the first time with the GTR sweetener setting enabled. I used my Suhr Classic T Antique and Fender Blues Jr. amp; both high quality gear that I have been using for sometime. The band tuned a 1/2 down to Eb as normal but the mix sounded off. I found myself checking my tuning constantly through the set because this tuner was new and I thought there may be a problem. At the break we had a quick meeting to discuss the sound mix. I learned the rest of the group were using various chromatic tuners and headstock tuners, which vary by (+/- ) 2 cents. After a quick comparison it was quickly recognized the (+/-) 2 cent variation in the different tuners diminished the sound. The acoustic guitar and the electric rhythm tuned with their respective tuners to check their tuning and they were different from each other. I checked my tuning and I was different from them but was undeniably in tune. The band used my tuner the rest of the night and there were no more problems.

Second: I used a Korg Pitch Black tuner which worked very well for years; I couldn’t justify spending big money on a new tuner even though I was casually in the market looking for one just because I was bored with it after all years of use. I came across a price drop on Sweetwater and it got me thinking. Let me tell you folks, tuner research is as fun as watching paint dry. I watched some English chaps on YouTube (TPS) do a comprehensive tuner review of tuners, which pointed me in the direction of strobe tuning over chromatic. After considering the strobe options available on the market, I became interested in purchasing the Sonic Research ST-300 or the Peterson Strobostomp HD. I decided on the Strobostomp HD over the ST-300 because Peterson tuners have a reputation for accuracy and have been tested over time. Additionally, the Strobostomp HD has a customizable interface, which will enable you to change screen colors and target specific instruments as well.

You will not have any buyers remorse for spending the money on this tuner, especially if you’re a gigging musician. I didn’t think I needed something this capable but now I know better.

This Pedal Is Awesome !

By Ross from Texas
Music Background: Electric guitar since 1985..Violin for 2 years prior to switching to electric guitar.

I have had several guitar tuner effects pedals now and this Peterson Strobostomp HD is my all time favorite for now and probably for many years to come..
After only having this pedal here at home now for 10-12 days,I have only used it for standard E-440 tuning on my 6 guitars and WOW I have never played my or other peoples guitars that are so in tune,it's definitely noticeable in any position on the fretboard..just plug the guitars cord to be used into the Strobo Stomp HD and pluck the string and watch the display, and tune to whatever strings tuning that you have prior selected, the displays inner and outer rotating bands rotate counter -clockwise for flat or clockwise for sharp,so tune each string until the two bands pretty much slow down to where the movement slowly moves counter and clockwise and depending how precise you like your guitar to be in tune,it only takes minimal effort and time to get tuned up and ready to plug up and jam.

People who like lots of different "Sweetened" tunings it's what little time I have spent with any tune other than E-440 just push the + or - button on the right side of pedal up or down until you see what you want and tune accordingly..it's that simple.

Even though I have and have used many other tuners whether in a pedal or headstock, hand held type I am totally impressed with this Peterson Strobostomp HD tuner,my other tuners have gotten me so close to perfect tuning that once my guitars are tuned with the Strobo Stomp HD pedal I have plugged into or used the headstock tuner, they are all so slightly off but it makes a HUGE difference when playing, the main strings that go out of tune the G & B are now in perfect tune and stay that way,and checking intonation they are all perfect and as said before it makes a HUGE difference and now I never want to stop playing.
.
Ok enough about my quality time spent with the Strobo Stomp HD pedal I just want to say Thank You to Sweetwater and my rep Shaka Dhladhla..I make the call to him,and if he's on another line or away from his desk for a short time he will always call me back fast and we talk about what I may need or what I can afford at the time and he makes it happen, and Sweetwaters payment plan options help me get the gear to my residence within mostly 2-3 days or I have even had an item arrive in less than 24 hours!!!
I am not that great on doing reviews properly but to sum it up this Peterson Strobostomp HD pedal is up there with my top purchases over the last few years,it's an incredible tuner that I believe will stay with me for as long as I have a need for any type tuner..it's that good.
so check one or more of these bad boys out, they should sell for much more $$$ and,so hurry and give Sweetwater and or your rep a call and purchase the Peterson tuner pedal and hear what you have been missing out on,perfect tune!
Thanks again to my sales rep Shaka Dhladhla and Sweetwater.

Amazingly comprehensive

By Tim

I got this mainly to use with a pedal steel. The good news is that once you have this working, the strobe tuning is easy to use. The hard part is finding the "sweeteners" you want. It took me a while to decode the one-page instruction sheet to figure how which of the 130 sweeteners to show. I did figure that out, and I'll attribute that to my klutziness. However, the challenge was to figure out what three character codes correspond to which instruments. No one-page list is provided. I was able to find one after some Googling, but that should not have been necessary.

I also wouldn't mind knowing with of the three power options will cause the 9V battery to drain when the instrument is plugged in but the tuner is not on. I guess I'll find out the hard way ...

Those thinking about which Peterson tuner to buy might want to keep in mind that this does not have a microphone, so the sweeteners for acoustic instruments may not be all the useful.

Easy to see tuner

By Spence from Michigan

This is a big, not too bright, easy to see display. It works like a charm , I had been using a clip on tuner but if finally failed so got another but the second one was not as good as the origonal, jittery and had trouble deciding if I was at pitch, sharp or flat. This is 3 times the money but it's built like a tank, feels rock solid, and works well wiyh neverything that I've jacked into it so far. Great feel of quality, a little on the heavy side but it stays put and does a great job.

I ordered the polytune 3 two separate times from another vendor’s sale, both had to be returned due to issues straight out of the box. Just because it’s a lower price, doesn’t mean it’s a better deal trust me! I have never had a problem with a Sweetwater item and have learned my bargain hunting lesson. Stick with the one you know you can trust, Sweetwater! The tuner is awesome. Dead on accuracies, easy to use, fast to dial in.

Remarkable!

By Mike from Nashville, TN

I have never been so in tune! Also, I was unaware of the number of alternate tunings available until buying this pedal. My original thought was to purchase a tuner for intonation setups (which this works flawlessly by the way), but the creative possibilities bring a new dimension to songwriting. I wish it were available years ago. Definitely a grand slam in my opinion. Way to go Peterson!!

By John G. from Milwaukee Wi
Music Background: Serious amateur and sometime semi-pro for 60 years

I thought it would be hard to get excited over a tuner, but ****, this one did it for me! After tuning for the first time with the Pertson Strobostomp, I think I heard a guitar perfectly in tune with itself for the first time in my life; and I’m 67 years old. I’ve tuned to pianos, pitch pipes, tuning forks, and a variety of electronic tuners over my years, and never before have I heard the sweetness of a perfectly tuned chord. I’m highly pleased to say the least!

The One You Want

By Paul B. from Clifton, VA

This is the nicest pedal tuner Ive ever owned. I have the Korg Pitchblack, TC Electronics Polytune 2, and Boss.. All good but none really compare to this new Peterson. Some have complained about the size. Quite frankly this pedal does not take up any more room than the pedals mentioned above and having that big display with strobe accuracy is really nice. I had no problem velcroing the pedal to my board, not sure what the reviewer who complained about that was talking about. Anyway this is pedal you want. Easy, fun, accurate, huge display, looks cool too!

my fourth peterson tuner

By Karlis from Seattle

This is my fourth peterson tuner. The StroboStomp HD fills my needs for an in-line tuner. The circuit is completely silent in true bypass mode but is available at the click of the button. I have it for my piezo-equipped plucked psaltery. When I first set it up, I put it between my piezo pickup and my preamp. With the amount of amplification in my preamp, I got what I considered to be too much noise and was initially disappointed. When I moved it after the preamp and before the amp, no noise and much steadier display. Peterson continues to innovate and to offer excellent products.

The Peterson StroboStomp HD tuner is the best tuner I have ever had. It has a sweetener for tuning for slight imperfections. It's nice. Before I bought this tuner I checked it out at sweetwater.com I checked out other tuners and nothing compared. I also checked out the boss DM-2w delay pedal at sweetwater before I bought it from sweetwater. Awesome pedal! I bought some other gear and I had all my gear before the delivery date. If and when I order some more guitar gear it will be from Sweetwater.

It makes a difference

By Steve H. from Connecticut

I"ve never used a strobe tuner before but I do use a very popular pedal tuner. I bought this just to try it out and I have to say it takes a little to get use to. But only took about 5 minutes and it does make a difference. Comparing it to my other tuner this one some notes were a little sharp one or two were flat. I guess the important thing is I could hear the difference. One of my friends was over the other day and picked up my guitar and started playing. Stopped about 1/4 of the way through a song and asked what I did different to the guitar because it sounds awesome. He asked new strings I said no I just tuned it with the strobe pedal. A few days later he came over with his guitar and turned it to see for himself and he now owns this tuner. So I love this tuner and can"t recommend this enough.

Peterson Perfect

By RMB from Central IL
Music Background: Is painfully mediocre

One of the best tuners I"ve ever used. Incomparable display. Customization to the 9s and the buffer sounds very clean and natural.

That being said.......

I have to agree with the mounting issues others are having. You remove the foam backing, which nothing adheres well to, and the battery door protrudes just enough to not get a perfect flat mount on a board. I have mine with the battery door hanging over the edge of my board for more secure mount.

No matter. This piece is 5+ stars. Take away half for that design flaw and you still have a 5 star tuner.

Sometimes Bigger is Better

By David F. from Chicago

I've been using Peterson digital strobe tuners for years now. Nothing is more accurate, and there's no lag, they're real-time. When I was building my new pedalboard, this tuner had been announced but not yet shipped. I saved a space for it, and I'm glad I did.

It's larger than some other tuners, but that's a small price to pay for something this accurate. It's bright colorful display is easy to read in any light, and the thing is a lot more sturdy than I expected: it's built like a tank! The sweetened tunings are nice, and it supports the guitars and basses I have had retrofitted with Buzz Feiten Tuning System. Very happy with this tuner.

Though I've only had it for a few weeks now, I was immediately impressed when I opened the box and felt how well this unit is made. Large display with 10 colors to select from and very easy to read under any light condition. Pin point accuracy and more features than I'll use. Was initially looking at the TC Poly-tune but it wasn't in stock, which may have been a blessing in disguise. I would never use the poly function anyway, so that didn't matter. This unit is $... more but I think it is money well spent for the cream of the crop.

Everything I Wanted

By Roscoe from Big D
Music Background: too many $50 bar gigs to mention

I like the look and performance. I mainly use bFE (Buzz Feiten electric) Using the instructions I quickly dialed that in and the cool green color I dug. Then the manual says I can hide presets I will never use so I don't have to scroll through all of them (130) every time I go in the menu. Thinking there are really only 4 presets on this thing I will ever actually use, I set out to hide the other 126 presets. I followed the instructions to the letter numerous times and always found myself lost somewhere in menu land achieving nothing. The instructions don't work and the device is less than intuitive to navigate beyond the basics. I'll try again later and hope for a better outcome. Also there is a slight delay from the time you step on the switch until the display becomes active. Several times I thought I hadn't engaged the switch all the way and stepped on it again just as the display lighted up which turned it off. But you can get used to that and it's not a problem for long.

Really Good

By Scott W. from Highlands Ranch, CO
Music Background: Acoustic Guitar

I love these type of tuners and this replaces my Peterson strobe clip-on. Solid build, big display and great options for sweetened turnings. The screw heads stick out on the bottom but the Temple mounting plate is about the same depth, so it worked out OK.

Studio Grade Tuning At A Fraction Of The Price

By Sweetwater Customer

A little hype on the title; this won't replace a high dollar desk-top Peterson strobe tuner...BUT, it IS the next best thing. Seriously, it is. Totally at a loss on previous review saying this pedal is huge, it is not. Works great on my pedal board, replacing another brand name pedal tuner with about the same amount of real estate. The StroboStomp is a better tuner though. Peterson did a sweet job with the visibility factor regarding the screen. Hallajuah, a screen you can see onstage, in the day or the night. If you are considering a tuner, be sure and call a Sweetwater tech, let 'em set you straight about these new pedals. Well worth the $$.

It’s the new high bar

By Coolbreeze from Houston
Music Background: Blues based music of all genres.

I"ve been on the waiting list to get one of these for months and it finally arrived and is as great as I expected. I did a comparison to several tuners I have on hand and the one thing it consistently showed was that, while my other tuners will show in tune after tuning with the Peterson, what they won"t do is show out of tune to the same degree. In other words there"s a deadband that the Strobo Stomp reveals in the others. The display is big and bright and you can even choose the color you want it to display. The sweetened tunings are just icing on the cake. I"ve used some other tuners with a Strobe mode but those were nowhere near as nice nor as easy to read and nowhere near as fast of a response. This thing is definitely the new high bar.

A Must Guitar Tool!!!

By Dave from Seminole, Florida
Music Background: 52 Year Guitarist

Back in the day, I used a pitch pipe or my keys players board to tune up. In my 52 years of playing, this tuner is superior to all others I have owned and I have owned a bunch!!! I just received it today and have limited time using it, but in my opinion it is a must have for your pedal board!!! Well worth the cost!!!

Quality Tuner With Nitpick Level Design Flaws

By Matt from IN

Got my Peterson Strobostomp HD in today.

Good first impressions: Super-fast tracking like I expect from Peterson, a massive screen that is easy to read even from a distance (like, 10+ feet easy to read), accurate as I again expect from Peterson, very light compared to other tuner pedals I've owned.

Bad first impressions: I really don't feel like they engineered this tuner 'pedal' to go on a pedalboard. The thing is massive. It hangs off one side of my board a good eight-ish inch because it's just such a large form factor. I would be ok losing a quarter inch of the screen to have this fit on my board. For reference, I'm using a single-row board similar to a Nano. Unless that is slightly deeper than my board, I don't think this would even fit on those, and I know they are probably the #1 most popular pedalboard style at the moment.
The battery box is on the bottom, directly under the edge closest to my 'foot edge' of the pedal. I had to put velcro over the battery lid to get a good connection on that side of the pedal. I'm worried that whenever I need to take the pedal off to change the battery, the box lid may come off with it. I would rather have had a side-door so that I didn't have to worry about breaking my pedal to change the battery.
The bottom of the pedal has two other major 'flaws' in my book for a pedal format. It had an adhesive-attached rubber base that covered the bottom with the SN and all that jazz on it. The adhesive on the rubber was so weak I had to remove it to keep the pedal on the board. Along with this, the screws on the bottom are not recessed into the casing due to the rubber padding on the bottom. As easy as the padding came off, I would think they were expecting it to be removed, but then why have case screws that aren't recessed?

Overall, I'm happy with it and don't see it leaving, but for a pedal that costs a premium, I expect better design thought and execution.

Fawesome tuner!

By John from Wisconsin
Music Background: Bass guitarist

At long last, I just received it and so far, this thing is awesome! The display is fantastic! Not only is it large and bright, but the ability to change colors is also a very cool touch! I am a big fan of strobe tuners. My tech has an old Conn that he uses for tuning and setting intonation. This has all of that with a much nicer display, and packaged in a convenient pedal. It is just as quick and smooth as the older analog Conn. The sensitivity is amazing, letting you tune with extreme precision. The "sweetened" tunings really make a significant improvement over other, inferior tuners.

Props to Josh at Sweetwater for seeing this order through, and shipping it just as soon as it arrived. Thanks!!!
