Will not disappoint. True EVH

By Chris A from South Florida on May 25, 2023 Music Background: Experienced

My bumblebee arrived two weeks ago. Packaged perfect, 55 point inspection was spot on. Frets were super nice and smooth. Needed to do a few minor tweaks for the set up as you need to with all guitars. Changed out the trem springs for the Floyd noiseless ones. This guitar will not disappoint. The neck is fast and so comfortable. Once you plug in well you just can play for hours on end. So happy with this guitar. Have all three stripes from the series and this one is so special to have added to the collection. Sweetwater is the best

The only other tweaks you could do is add a brass block and a 78 Seymour Duncan pick up which I have on my white striped. But for right now going to enjoy this one as it arrived . Perfect!!!!!!!

Bumblebee

It's cool! I love the way it plays and it looks better in real life! The pickup is good! I might change it someday but will play it for now! It took about an hour and a half to set it up correctly and now it is like butter!

Awesome Guitar!

Guitar came set up perfectly. Pictures do not do the finish and paint on the guitar justice. One of the best feeling necks on any guitar I have ever felt. Stays in tune well, and no imperfections.

Better than expected

By Sweetwater Customer on December 22, 2021

Of course this plays great. Nice feel to the neck and low action. I expected that and was not disappointed. But the sound is just amazing! That one pickup delivers such a powerful tone which is very similar to the early VH sound, especially when paired with 5150 amp. I wish I would have bought years ago!!!

Happily Surprised

Was a little weary of purchasing a made in Mexico guitar from past strats ive bought but this one was not like the others . The workmanship is much better on this stripped guitar. Not only does it look great it plays great and there are no issues with the neck or the frets. As far as the Dtuna i am not going to comment on that because i removed it due to i don't drop tune. I have a Fender Pro 2 strat and a Ibanez RG Prestige but seem to grab this guitar first. For looks, sound, and playability you cant go wrong with this.

EVH Black and yellow

This guitar rocks hard..unfinished neck rules all. Mike D hooked me up and they switched out the pick up with an SD DiMarzio. Now it is exactly like Ed's. I love the Sweetwater staff. Very on it and caring for your order. Mike and Peter are great people at a great company! Getting the next EVH soon! Here is a picture of my two babies.

Love the Bumblebee!

Life long obsession with this guitar and with King Edward VH since I was a teen. Easy choice, but I will need to get the 5150 as well someday.
Unbelievable tone and sound, neck is very natural and smooth and the D-tuna is cool from quick drop D. Yes I did relic it a little but kept the body clean. Swapped to Dimarzio SD, screw eyes. Looks amazing on my wall. Cranks "Somebody get me a Doctor" Love it!. Thanks you to Chris and to Sweetwater for offering this masterpiece. RIPEVH

2nd EVH Striped series

By AKL from Minnesota on February 8, 2019 Music Background: Hobbyist

Originally I had a tough time deciding between the white and black and the yellow and black. Opted for the white/black and just love it. Bought it used and it needed a fret level and setup. So now I thought, what the heck.... I'll get the black/yellow one too. Bought it new from Sweetwater. It arrived already setup and plays great. Thanks for the attention to detail Sweetwater. It was a pleasure doing business with you.

Awesome guitar!

This guitar was a Christmas gift for my husband. He absolutely loves it. He says it's the easiest playing guitar he's ever owned. And it's color is beautiful.

Great buy for the money

By David on December 2, 2016

It is always a little scary purchasing a guitar over the internet; however, with Norb at Sweetwater I have had a very good experiences. This guitar really surprised me. It plays better and sounds significantly better that I was expecting for a guitar at this price point.

Great Instrument

By grdahl777 from Scottsdale, AZ on July 24, 2014 Music Background: Hobbyist, playing for 40+ years.

Tone and looks, sounds fantastic through my 5150III combo. I especially love the feel and speed of the neck and fretboard. As a huge VH fan I was already predisposed to love this guitar, I wasn't disappointed. Delivered in perfect condition from Sweetwater.

The Perfect Superstrat

By JM on November 19, 2013

Just about perfect, right out of the box....The (charvel style) unfinished neck, along with a very light bass wood body gives this guitar an amazing feel and sound your just not going to find in this price range...The Wolfgang pickup has quite a dynamic tonal range, even with just a single volume knob...The fret work was near perfect - not a single rough edge or string buzz anywhere on the guitar...Very satisfying guitar to play....If your looking for the essence of the early 80s chavel style superstrat, this is it..graphics and all...

Bumble Bee

By John Prather from CLINTON, UT on March 3, 2024

The guitar looks amazing, but my only complaint is for the money, I'm disappointed in the extremely cheap made Tone knob. It has the feel of a cheap toddler toy and not like the quality knob on the 5150. From watching the many EVH videos of Eddie talking about the quality and self inspections of his brand, he would approve before production, he would not approve of this! I guess since Eddie is not with us, they can cut corners.

Kick Axe!!

Always a solid product from EVH series.

Floyd EVH model is the only down fall. It is made to not pull up at all (blocked too) so if you're lucky you can get a small amount of lift (after you remove the EVH d-tuna) If you like having the d-tuna then great all is well! I just really enjoy a floating bridge.

Neck is nice. And the pick up is pretty solid.

Nice guitar.

EVH Striped Guitar! WOW!

By mattc in pa from Harrisburg, PA on November 11, 2013 Music Background: Hobbyist Guitar Player

I first want to say I didn't just buy this because I'm a EVH fan. I had owned one of the Peavey Wolfgang Specials and really liked it but, sold it for some dumb reason. I always liked the different striped guitars that he used over the years so I thought I would give this on a try. I am glad I did. The guitar had to be set-up to my liking but, this thing rips! EVH can design a great guitar. The fit & finish was excellent and the neck is very comfortable. The pickup is one of the only ones I have gotten in a long time that I didn't change out. The Floyd stays in tune very well (even though it is the one made in Korea). The fretwork was very nice and the rest of the hardware seems very well built. It work great for the 80's style rock up to the new stuff on the radio today. I gave it 4 stars due to the fact that for this price it should include a gigbag & have a real Floyd Rose. If you want a great playing guitar then look no further then this! I think you will be very glad you quit looking!!

It shreds, but sick of prices

By Ted K from Montana on August 8, 2023

The basic concept is perfect for my tastes. In many ways it's better than the other superstrats, which tend to be heavy as hell. It's under 7 lbs and has one pickup, which I like because there's less string pull there, and it's a top mounted Floyd so it's much easier to deal with, and I don't find anything is lost there.

The neck shape is excellent. It's like a Charvel but wtih more depth to it. The San Dimas neck is sort of like a U and a D at the same time. I find it to be in a weird spot of being not thin enough but also too thick. This one is a bigger C shape that takes wrapping very well. But the edges are not rolled as much as a Charvel so I added some of that myself.

I guess whenever FMIC adds a cheap feature like a D-tuna, something else like a hard rolled fretboard edge is removed. The D-tuna is garbage. The tiny seater screw which is somehow supposed to fine-tune the E won't thread properly so the E tuning is always flat, so I threw it out. The spring cavity is always atrocious on Charvel and EVH guitars. Totally unacceptable. I always have to sand off the glossy paint and dye the whole interior black. I buy these brands because the industry is coasting, uninspired and overpriced, and there are just too many ugly guitars (and I'm clearly willing to compromise there). Charvel and EVH act as if anyone is gonna leave that cover on, so they think it acceptable to leave the cavity looking like that on a $1149 guitar. The cover is useless to leave on anyway because it's not slotted to allow for claw adjustments — you'd have to take the whole thing off. Cheap little corner-cutting is expected with these brands, while the prices faithfully climb.

In many ways this guitar is very true to what Eddie played, including the volume knob that says 'tone.' That's very thoughtful, but I'd really like the stainless steel frets that he played with. Those are hard to find despite all the clamor for them. The industry seems to want to keep that in its back pocket for a sort of 'premium' feature. I had to polish the frets. They are quite level, which is appreciated. The guitar is very easy to set up, much better than average at taking low action without buzzing. No buzzing with all strings at 3/64 and drop D. I had to get a tribute guitar that looks like this in order to get: light basswood, top-mount Floyd, one pickup. So I have to take off 2 stars for all the work I had to do. These are superficial problems which I expected, but in the end it's a great guitar to play. Again, the neck is an awesome shape and it sets up well and shreds well, which is all that truly matters.

Where's the beef?

By J D Foster from Boston, Ma on July 11, 2013 Music Background: 30 Year Guitar Player

Got the striped series, plugged into my ring started with opening to Romeo Delight and was disappointed. Went and got my other guitars and tried different channels. The humbucker pickup is weak, doesn't capture tapped harmonics and has a flat tone. I like the guitar otherwise and will try putting a higher end. Pick up in the guitar
