Fender Player Stratocaster HSS - 3-Tone Sunburst with Maple Fingerboard Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar with Alder Body, Maple Neck, Maple Fingerboard, and HSS Pickup Configuration - 3-tone Sunburst

The Fender Stratocaster is considered by many guitarists, including many of us at Sweetwater, to be the classic solidbody electric guitar. Introduced in 1954, the Strat has flaunted its svelte body curves, tonal dexterity, and expressive vibrato in the capable hands of guitarists cross-genre. At once a working musician's axe and cultural icon, the Fender Player Series Stratocaster HSS takes the grand tradition into the future with a fast-action 22-fret maple neck, vibrant vintage-inspired finishes, and a versatile trio of humbucker and single-coil Alnico pickups to cover wide swaths of contemporary and classic music.

Lovin' it!

By Tim Thomas from Yukon, OK on September 18, 2020 Music Background: Hobbyist

Great all around guitar! Awesome sounding tones all the way from the single-coils to the humbucker. Never want to put it down. Big thanks to my sales engineer Alden Debee for going the extra mile to make sure I got the exact guitar I wanted. His expertise also led me to the perfect amp for this guitar (Boss Katana 50 MKII), man do they sound good together. Great customer service from Sweetwater getting me the guitar, the amp, and the other 12 items I ordered. Everything arrived fast and in perfect condition. This guitar looks and sounds fantastic, would definitely recommend to anyone.

Player Stratocaster

By Paul J from Northeast Ohio on March 14, 2019

I wanted to get a Stratocaster because I had one in my teen years. This one has the same sunburst finish that my old one had and sounds great. I've had this guitar for about a week now and I love the way it sounds and plays. I'm really glad I got this.

Great Guitar

By Andrew Bricker from Simsbury, CT on November 26, 2018

I bought this because I thought the color was cool, and because my other Strats are all single coils. I figured for the money I could try the HSS combination and If I didn't like it, no big loss. Well guess what ... Never would I ever have expected this guitar to be as excellent as it is! It easily stands up to my American Elite and Pro! The Humbucker screams! The single coils are all you expect them to be! I was skeptical of the gloss finish on the fret board, but changed my mind as I was sliding up and down with minimal friction. This guitar surpassed my every expectation! My Sweetwater Sales Engineer Anthony Longano, as usual, made this a great overall experience. Even though I asked for locking tuners to be installed, I still got the guitar in two days! It was ready to play right out of the box! Yeah, no gig bag - but I prefer hardshell cases anyway. Picked up a Fender Tweed case...

Player series is a HIT!!

By Doug from Ohio on August 27, 2018 Music Background: 30 year player

I took a chance on the player series because of the great price . Wow what a guitar for that price! The action is Awesome!! And the neck feels just right. I went with the HSS pickup series , couldn't be happier I did. The humbucker really cuts through. If you're on the fence about one of these , go for it you can't miss!!

Wonderful Instrument With a Few Caveats

By Matthew McGrath from Seattle, WA on August 2, 2019 Music Background: Pro Drummer & Amateur Guitarist

This is my first "proper" electric after years of plinking away on a cheap old Epiphone. I'm really pleased with the build quality and tone of this guitar. The single coils have that great Strat chime, and I chose the HSS version so I could rock some AC/DC with the humbucker. I especially like that the humbucker taps in position two so you still get that classic tone from a mix of bridge and middle single coils. Nice touch! Also I love that Sweetwater lets you review photos of each instrument, so I got to choose the best looking wood grain on the sunburst finish.

I do have a small gripe, though. It seems exceedingly cheap for Fender to not include a tremolo arm spring on this series of Strat. Without a spring, the trem arm is very wobbly and swings all over. Kind of an annoyance that I have to do that myself. And while this goes for any guitar you buy online, this guitar was in dire need of a set up when I got it; the stock intonation was off by 20+ cents and the neck was slightly misaligned. But after an expert set up (shout out to Thunder Road Guitars in Seattle!), this things absolutely rocks and I'm super pleased with it.
