Fender American Professional II Stratocaster - Mystic Surf Green with Rosewood Fingerboard Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar with Alder Body, Maple Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, and 3 Single-coil Pickups - Mystic Surf Green

Fender's American Professional II Stratocaster offers multiple upgrades from its inaugural configuration. The lightweight, contoured body delivers a nicely balanced tonal foundation with a highly-resonant quality. This solidbody electric guitar's first major upgrade lies in the pickup selection. The American Professional II Stratocaster is loaded with a trio of V-Mod II single-coil pickups that pump out a vintage tone with modern refinements. An upgraded 2-point tremolo bridge and cold-rolled steel block combine to give you plenty of sustain and brightness. Further performance upgrades include a contoured heel joint, "Super-Natural" satin neck finish, and upgraded electronics. If you're looking for a guitar with a vintage voice and modern feel, the American Professional II Stratocaster is worth your consideration.

Dreamy

By Malachi from Bay Area on January 6, 2023

Chris McCown always hooks me up. Been a customer for several years. This is my perfect guitar. Fit and finish is perfect, pick ups dynamic, bell like, and even screams through my marshall dsl40c. The color is stunning in person and I love the metallic. Neck flys. I can't put the thing down! You'll be happy just do it.

A pleasure to drive!!

What can I say, it's Fender at it's best. The fingerboard is so smooth and fast, the pickup options are really fun. Thanks Sweetwater for your great sales help and price. I'm loving my new Stratocaster.

Loved my pro 2 tele so much I bought the strat

By Alex from Nevada on February 23, 2022

Bought my first Fender last year after years of Gibson. What a model to choose. So many nice features and feels great in hand. Loved Sweetwater's setup on my guitar! Going to take some learning to figure out all the strat setups but I love this guitar already! Wish they had fiesta red with maple fingerboard!

Great Guitar, Looks sick

Got mine a year or two ago and It's been my main guitar ever since, the only complaint I got is that the finish on the fretboard easily chips off.

Killer Guitar... But with some issues worth addressing

By Isaac Ross from Australia on March 27, 2023

I bought my American Pro ii Strat nearly 2 years ago in August. It was my first "real" guitar and It has been my go-to ever since I got it. I didn't purchase this guitar from Sweetwater, seeing they don't ship to where I'm at. But I just wanted to document my experiences I've had with this instrument over the last couple years that I've owned it.

Neck & playablity: The guitar has the best neck you'll ever come across on a guitar. With a lovely, deep C profile with some fantastic maple wood grain on the back. However, the finish on the side of the fretboard has chipped in some areas from the first string slipping off the fretboard - which doesn't happen often. I really like the playablity of the guitar. It's a breeze to play, with only two noticeable spots of fret-buzz. Although, the guitar is sometimes hard to tune because the B-string's intonation being a bit out, which is disappointing seeing I payed $2600AUD for it.

Sound: The guitar perfectly emulates that classic Strat sound and vibe with it's V-Mod II pickups. The neck pickup has that vintage, SRV/Hendrix style sound, which I personally love. I don't use the middle position often, but I find it to be the best pickup for high-gain tones. And when you add the neck puckup, It sounds beautiful. Although I personally find the bridge pickup to be to low-output with not enough low-end, but that's the only complaint I have on the sound. But when you turn on the push-push circuit, I like how it transforms the guitar's sound into something akinned to a Telecaster, making this guitar truly versatile. The guitar is also very resonant with pretty good sustain.

Parts: The guitar features the standard Fender-stamped tuners that I personally think should've been upgraded to locking, but they get the job done fairly well. The strap-buttons were good, but I decided to replace them with Fender strap-locks, which turned out to be a horrible decision. The pickguard looks really nice with the mystic surf green finish and I have no complaints. The guitar also came to me with a slightly shipped tone knob, but I don't really care. A weird and fustraiting issue with the guitar is when the whammy bar tip falls off occasionally when I grab it, which can be annoying on stage, but I think I can fix it.

Build quality: The instrement is built pretty solid, however, the finish isn't perfect - with 4 or so defects around the sides of the body, but that dosn't matter much to me. The guitar is light, weighing in at around 3kg (6 - 7lbs), making it my ideal choice for gigging.
