Solidbody Electric Guitar with Alder Body, Maple Neck and Fingerboard, and 3 Single-coil Pickups - Mystic Surf Green

Fender's American Professional II Stratocaster offers multiple upgrades from its inaugural configuration. The lightweight, contoured body delivers a nicely balanced tonal foundation with a highly-resonant quality. This solidbody electric guitar's first major upgrade lies in the pickup selection. The American Professional II Stratocaster is loaded with a trio of V-Mod II single-coil pickups that pump out a vintage tone with modern refinements. An upgraded 2-point tremolo bridge and cold-rolled steel block combine to give you plenty of sustain and brightness. Further performance upgrades include a contoured heel joint, "Super-Natural" satin neck finish, and upgraded electronics. If you're looking for a guitar with a vintage voice and modern feel, the American Professional II Stratocaster is worth your consideration.

Better Than Expected

By Michael T. from Sarasota, FL

I've had this guitar for a couple of months. The build quality is very good and the fact it comes with a hard case is a bonus at this price point for an American built guitar. I was hesitant buying it at first because of the tall narrow frets. I've only played medium jumbos up to this point. If that's holding you back don't let it. It is the easiest playing Strat I've ever owned and I've had plenty. My first being a 69 Strat.
The set up wasn't to my liking when I first played it but that's a subjective thing based on playing style and genre you're trying to play. My primary music style is jazz. Yes I know a Strat is not considered a jazz guitar but I think it's silly to confine yourself to a specific type of guitar for a particular genre. After all Steve Howe played a ES-175 for prog rock and sounded great to me. After all my tweaking I'm very satisfied.

Excellent Strat

By Kenneth B. from New Rochelle, NY

I bought mine about three years ago from Sweetwater, so it has been around the block quite a few times. Far and away the best Strat I've had since the early 1970s. The sound is vintage Strat all the way. I love the push/push neck pickup as it gets a little bit close to a humbucker sound. The trem is incredible. I have mine floating and the guitar stays in near perfect tune even with extreme whammy abuse. It is nearly as accurate as my Floyd Rose Jackson. Though I am more of a Les Paul guy, I'll keep this Strat forever, because, you know, you gotta have a great Strat in your arsenal. I have two others, but this blows them away.

Am Pro 2 Mystic Surf Green SSS

By Jersey J. from Jersey

I think the Am Pro series is outstanding. I have a Pro 1 Strat HSS (Ash in Sienna) & a Tele (Ash in Natural). They have blonde Maple fingerboards.
So based on experience I got this guy. Arrived nicely, factory setup. Paint is nicer than a Cadillac. Playability & workmanship all in common.
Had it a year now. They're all keepers. Except for the tinted neck I'd buy it again. They turn color all by themselves.

Best Strat I’ve ever owned period!

By Robbie M. from Cleveland
Music Background: Pro musician

I have maybe too many guitars but I play out and run a studio. I have had American Strats for many years and never really loved any of them.
This is the first one that I said this is a keeper.
The neck feel is a big improvement over the Pro 1 I had.
The pickups are so much better than the Pro 1 with great clarity and balance.
The sparkle mystic surf green is absolutely beautiful and has sparkles in the paint….really stunning
The heal of the neck makes higher neck playing much easier.
The fretwork is flawless.
The push switch adds the neck pick up to bridge for extra roundness.
Just their best Strat to date…..just love playing it 5 stars for sure

Perfect Strat!

By Richard W. from OAK FOREST, IL
Music Background: Eclectic taste

I picked up this beauty a few months ago. It arrived in perfect condition and professionally setup by the good folks at Sweetwater. A lot of people will tell you that the differences in sound / tone are unnoticeable between this model and the lower end strats. It's a matter of opinion at best. However, the overall quality and feel of this model is incredible. When you hold a higher end strat you can see tell the craftsmanship is second to none. It's an absolute stunner to look at and sounds fantastic.

Looks and plays great. Stays in tune! The push-push selector gives it that much more range for the sound you are looking for.

This beats my Custom Shop Strat. It's my #1 of several.

By Shontsy from Michigan
Music Background: Professional Hobbyist

I picked mine out in person at Sweetwater after comparing to a few others that were available at the same time and this one is an absolute cannon. The pickups are excellent, no thoughts of ever changing them. I think the guy that "can't get definition on the high strings" just needs to adjust pickup heights because I DO love bright guitars and I'm not having any issues even remotely similar to his experience. The pickups use a blend of AlNiCo 2 and 5 in the various pole positions and are just great Strat pickups rivaling any Strat set out there. Of all the guitars I own many being more expensive, this is my number one, beating out even a really great Custom Shop Strat from Wildwood. I'll never sell it. The only mods I've made to it are the Freeway 10 position switch (and deleted the push/push tone pot because it was no longer needed) and swapped the saddles to Highwood brand for better comfort. Other than those two personal preferences it was perfect out of the box. That neck shape and the satin finish on it is just THE BEST. The only other thing I'd consider is medium jumbo frets but these narrow tall frets are probably the same height and the narrow frets makes it look "more Fender". My Am Pro 1 Tele is my number 2 guitar. Another absolutely brilliant model. The Fender Am Pros are just killer, especially for the price. I prefer them to the Ultra series which are cool but meh. Maybe someday I'll change my mind.

Great Guitar!

By Jeff L. from Cape Cod
Music Background: Multi-instrumentalist

I bought this Strat from Sweetwater, same color, same model. It does not need any upgrades as far as I'm concerned, some say the pickups are bright, yes they are when the tone is cranked! I play through an Engl and I get a great Strat tone and I have no issue getting the tone I want. The Strat is a very versatile guitar and it's going to take a while to master the controls, but I will say the push-push tone control is a great feature, I love combining the bridge and neck pickups, which you can't do on a standard Strat. You can also use all three at once!

Best Strat Ever

By Doug from Billerica Ma
Music Background: Played out when younger now a hobby

I have played for over 40 years. I have had vintage strats and reissues. My fave was my 1957 reissue from the 90's. I bought this as I loved the color and thought I'd hang it on the wall in my music room. WOW! This guitar is pretty much perfect. It kind of plays like a '57 but with a better feel, which I did not think was possible. Very smooth and sultry sound but distorts great also. It's the clean sound that is best rings like a bell! The neck is great and the color outstanding. Sweetwater did a great job hit my target price and the guitar arrived in two days in perfect condition. If you want a great Strat this may be the one!

Hesitant

By Scott C. from Texas
Music Background: 40 years playing experience, home studio recording

I own a Les Paul, a couple SGs, a few Schecters, a Jackson, an Ibanez and a couple others. I play hard rock/metal, and I consider all these guitars on that end of things, humbuckers on all, rosewood or ebony fretboards. When thinking of a strat I compare it to being a GM guy and thinking about a Ford, not really sure I'm gonna like it. When I saw a Strat was available in the Mystic Surf Green I went for it. It's great! I love this thing. It feels good, it plays great, and that "Strat sound" you've always heard about? It's true, coil tapping a humbucker in the neck position is not even close. That sound is everything you've heard about, it changes the way I play when I pick it up. Channel your inner Jimi Gilmour!
If you've been hesitant, take the leap, you won't regret it

Nicely updated Stratocaster with some nice additions

By Richard G. from Tacoma, Washington

When you get yours, make sure to get a pro-caliber setup. Makes a huge difference. The edges of the satin maple fretboard are rolled, making a smooth and playable maple neck even better. Incredible feel with the right setup. Check your tremolo cavity, because your guitar will have copper foil in its cavities, helping to drastically reduce any possible single-coil hum. I doubt those Shaw-designed pickups have any noise anyway, but this is a nice touch that I've never seen before. My 2021 example is dead quiet. I have mine paired with an '89 Stevie Ray Vaughan pre-production Strat with uniquely voiced Texas pickups and the AP2 stands up to it very well with a different character. Between these two I doubt I'll ever need another single-coil. Hard to pick a number 1 between those two. The neck on this is INCREDIBLE. Non-screwing trem bar which stays put where you want it after you pop it in. Love the sound, feel and look. The mystic green is special. An absolute keeper. Looking to get a matching bass in awhile.

Love this Stratocaster...

By Carp from Ohio

I already had another Strat with a rosewood board and thought I would try this one in maple. It is a great player, pickups sound wonderful and the switching adding the neck pickup in position 4 and 5 gives two more very usable tones. This guitar is light weight and the finish is unique. This guitar plays and sounds the way I expect a Strat to play and sound. I made a good choice here. I did put locking tuners on it for ease of string changing.. Thanks to Greg Baum for the help in recommending this guitar.

Good strat but we'll need some modifications.

By Wild H. from Colorado
Music Background: Hobbyist. Been playing for about 30 years.

I wanted to wait a couple of weeks after receiving this to leave my review. First I'm going to start with the appearance of the guitar. It's beautiful. The paint, color combination, the tinting on the neck, all perfect. As far as the feel goes, that's a personal preference, but I love the satin neck. My first complaint has to do with the pickups. They seemed unbalanced to me. This is my fourth American Strat. I'm not a guy who likes extremely bright sounding guitars, and I have to turn the treble all the way up on my amp and the bass almost all the way down to get the higher strings to register and get the same sustain as the lower strings. Any song I play where the cord change is accentuated on the higher strings is almost inaudible. This is the first Strat that I've owned where I have not been happy with the pickups. My other complaint has to do with the tone switch knob. It seems like it's a low-friction pot. It rolls too easy, where the slightest bump will change the tone.

As far as Sweetwater goes, they're perfect. Kept me up to date with everything going on, called and made a couple of recommendations before shipping the guitar, and even put Tootsie Rolls in the guitar case.

Perfect Fender Stratocaster Sounds

By Ed
Music Background: Guitar player for (coughing) years.

My beautiful wife surprised me with this visually stunning and gorgeous sounding American Professional II Stratocaster for my birthday. We have never purchased a guitar online before and she was a little nervous, not knowing if it would be the right fit for me. The sales engineer, Nick Graham, worked with my wife through the whole process and even got the guitar to our house in time for my birthday! I love the Mystic Surf Green with the maple fretboard. The beveled neck joint makes playing up top very smooth and easy. Haven't been able to put it down for hours. Thanks to my beautiful wife and thank you Nick Graham for helping to make this happen!

Immediately became my favorite guitar

By Ethan

I've always been more of a Les Paul guy, but the single coil sound had been growing more and more desirable to me. I had been shifting back and forth between a Fender American Ultra and a PRS Silver Sky, both of which had things I loved and hated. Then when this was announced it was exactly what I was looking for so I jumped on it, especially given how much cheaper it is than those. The moment I picked it up it felt perfect for me. The neck shape feels custom built for my hand, the recess on the neck joint doesn't look like much but it does just enough to allow easy access up top. This color, good god. No picture or video I've seen does it justice. It's beautiful. I'm going to have this one for a long, long time.
