Fender Tom DeLonge Starcaster Semi-hollowbody Electric Guitar - Satin Shell Pink Reviews

6-string Semi-hollowbody Electric Guitar with Laminate Maple Body, Roasted Maple Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, and 1 Humbucking Pickup - Satin Shell Pink

Blink-182 and Angels & Airwaves front man Tom DeLonge is an unconventional player, a point exemplified when he defied contemporary wisdom (and his past) by strutting onstage with Fender’s semi-hollowbody Starcaster. Players can now tread a similar path with the Tom DeLonge Starcaster semi-hollowbody electric. A thin, lightweight laminate maple construction makes this the ideal semi-hollowbody for contemporary rock and a welcoming choice for solidbody players who are eager to explore new sonic ground. A roasted maple neck provides quintessential Fender playability and comfort, while a medium-output ceramic humbucker from Seymour Duncan USA makes for seamless transitions between cleans and crunch tones. Fire up those tractor beams and get ready to reel in Fender’s latest signature invader: the Tom DeLonge Starcaster semi-hollowbody electric guitar.

damned Surprising

By Christopher L. from Wausau, WI

Against my expectations, this actually is very well made for the cost. Feels like a 2k instrument honestly!

Playability and sound is astounding. It's actually well worth the price.

Amazingly great

By Sweetwater Customer

I played this guitar a few times in a store and was interested. Finally pulled the trigger yesterday because I wanted one fresh out of the box and I'm very pleasantly surprised with QC on mine. No sharp fret ends, finish job is immaculate, F holes are carved perfectly and it even came setup very well (needed some intonation on the treble strings, but that was it--action is low with no buzzing). The shell pink color is flat, not metallic, and I think it's the best color on offer but the gold is nice, if that's your kind of thing. It has a gloss Strat neck so you have to be ok with that--I think it feels really good. The SD pickup is quality and sounds great with distortion. If you turn the volume knob down, it cleans up, but that's definitely not the main event here. This guitar feels super light, which I appreciate.

You may be wondering why Fender made an artist signature guitar in Indonesia, as I was. Turns out Fender (as a company not known for making semi-hollows) does not have the machinery or the know-how to make such guitars in the USA or Mexico. After doing some "research" (watching YouTube), I think it is pretty safe to say these are made in the same factory as the Squier Starcasters, but they are not the same. At all. Starting with the pickup. The Squier Starcasters also weigh as much a a pound more, use lesser tuners and hardware and just generally are of lesser quality. Can you buy a Squier and upgrade it? I guess, but I'd much rather have this one without the aggravation.

This guitar ships without a case and while it can *kinda* fit in most 335 cases, I don't think that's ideal. There is a more premium Fender case that can be had for a reasonable price and I'm ok with that.

You probably have to be a fan to fully appreciate this guitar because it does one thing really well, but it's a thing that I really wanted.

Feels great, perfectly simplistic. Good rock tone and good playing feel. Lightweight and now my #1 guitar.

Great Guitar

By Juan B. from San Juan, PR
Music Background: Bedroom musician

Great guitar! The humbucker is dynamic, roll off the volume and it's mellow enough for cleans. The paint job was spot on, mine was shell pink. It feels solidly made and it's a great guitar for all rock genre's, so don't worry if it's a signature guitar cause it lends itself for music beyond what Tom would use it.
