EarthQuaker Devices Special Cranker Overdrive Pedal Reviews
In contrast to the EarthQuaker Devices stripped-down Speaker Cranker, the Special Cranker boasts an expanded control set for improved command over the pedal's sound and response. The More knob makes its triumphant return in the Special Cranker, adjusting the bias of the transistor to dial in varying levels of saturation. Standard Level and Tone controls let you dial in the perfect volume while adjusting treble frequencies, respectively. Where the Special Cranker truly shines is through its diode selector switch, offering the original silicon diode voicing as well as a distinct germanium option — with versatility and tonal possibilities like this, it's no surprise that more than a few Sweetwater shredders turn to EQD for all their pedal needs.

Very Solid
Purchased this pedal yesterday, and so far I am loving it! It's a unique overdrive (in a good way). I have yet to try it out with other pedals, but it has a very satisfying breakup and feel. It feels just gritty enough to be fun but not too much so where it gets muddy and inarticulate. Also, loving the Sweetwater exclusive color.
Great pedal
I have over 400 guitar pedals (yes. I have a problem, lol) with a good third of them being overdrives, distortions and fuzzes. EQD is among my favorite brands and the Special Cranker is among my favorite models. It just give produces the sound I have in my head, especially when playing my Strat I to a PRRI. Love it.
Not a bad sound in it
Every setting is usable, from a light overdrive to medium distortion. The soft switch is a huge plus as well.
5 Stars
Pedal stacks well of course. Very usable, very affordable.
Loud and proud
I was presently surprised on how well this pedal performed. It was booked up to a 25 watt Fender practice amp and it shook the house. The wife was not happy about that.
Terrific Overdrive
Absolutely phenomenal pedal, I previously used an OCD which is good in its own way, but sterile. This has tons of character, and with Earthquaker Devices' lifetime warranty, I think this is the last overdrive I'll ever need.
Great amp like overdrive distortion
Sounds like a cranked amp! Doesn't sound like a pedal trying to mimic the sound. Really cool!
I love it!
Great sound in no time. Germanium setting right after my Greer lightspeed. They sound great together and separately. I'm done looking for od's for now.
Earthquaker special cranker
My first drive pedal& it's very versatile& makes both my amps sing & scream.my Marshal class 5 has no effects , the special cranker is not only a drive pedal , but also subs as a fuzz. I love it& for the price you can't go wrong, I bought the plumes as well & there both great. Thank you Sweetwater.
Overdrive / Fuzz
Awesome tones from slight crackling to gritty. Sounds great after the Plume.
I can't stop playing this pedal
I just got this pedal and it sounds awesome. They call it transparent, but to my ears, it sounds more like a fuzz with a blend knob. You can really hear the clean coming through with the affected sound. I put it at the end of my dirt pedals, and it makes them all sound good. I like the option of switching from the germanium transistor to the silicone one. Both sound good. This is a great price, too. Buy one.
Not bad, not too good either
Good EQ on the pedal, retains bass and treble well. Good power out put. Gain structure / texture is a bit weird.
