From '80s throwback thrash to molten-hot death metal and beyond, Jackson's stunning Soloist SL3 delivers the goods. This high-performance, no-frills machine comes with a bevy of upgrades discerning guitarists commonly reach for when outfitting their gigging instruments, accented with top-quality tonewoods and custom-shop sensibility to form an axe worthy of studios and stages everywhere. Its alder body delivers the sonic qualities that have made the wood a mainstay for decades, delivering a firm, full-bodied sound with some extra heft in the low end. Wrap your fretting hand around the 3-piece maple neck, and you'll experience comfort and quickness in any position courtesy of Jackson's Speed profile and a glasslike ebony fingerboard with rolled edges. A trio of Seymour Duncan pickups prepares this 6-string for any situation, with a JB TB-4 dishing out distorted tones in complete clarity and Flat Strat SSL-6 single-coils for that coveted twang with some extra "oomph." Expressive playing is a cinch with a Floyd Rose tremolo on hand, facilitating everything from subtle warbles to insane squeals and everything in between. And with Gotoh MG-T locking tuners up top, tuning instability and slippage issues are a thing of the past. Add the Jackson American Series Soloist SL3 to your arsenal for incredible tone, unparalleled feel, and ultimate playability.

Excellent

Jackson's new American Series Soloist SL3. I purchased this guitar from Sweetwater (Hi Forrest) as soon as heard about it. I have been a Jackson fan for years. I have owned this guitar now for almost two weeks and have been playing it non stop. First the tag line "Fast as F***" YES the neck is FAST! this is the " speed neck" shape and it lives up to that title. The play ability of this guitar is just fantastic! The sound was a surprise. I expected the Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge to sound great but I was not expecting to like the single coils as much as I do. The combinations with the 5 way selector are surprising . There is WIDE range of tones from this guitar. It is not just for metal or rock.

The Floyd 1500 series bridges does all the dive bombing tricks I can do and returned to perfect tune every time. I REALLY like the Gotoh locking tuners when I changed the strings. I thought that was overkill but now I am glad Jackson included them.

I chose the Platinum Pearl color which looks great, but it is the best in bright light and sunlight. There is a finish blemish under the clear coat between the humbucker and middle pickup. This is only seen at certain angle. If you look directly at the area it is not visible.I thought of returning it because this is not a cheap guitar but I haven't because I seriously can't stop playing it. I play it before a go to work and when I get home. It really is that much fun to play. I own 5 other guitars including a USA series Soloist that are getting ignored because of this guitar.

I do have another issue and that is with the case, its a nice case but at this price point I think a hard shell case is the way to go. Sweetwater uses a form fitting packing material when shipping and they include some inside the case to keep it from moving around, I kept that inside the case for the same reason.

Overall this really is an excellent guitar and if I had to I would buy it again the issues I noted notwithstanding.

subpar trem no binding, no pearl logo. choice of colors

By Sweetwater Customer on June 28, 2023

concept models have better trem and cost less. too me a Soloist needs binding and a real floyd. These are like the preproduction student soloists which were cheaper because of no binding and they had dots. Shark fins are awesome, just would be better with a better trem and not being so basic. needs decet colors like wine red, dark blue, silver etc, the only colors i like are the black and white. that light blue is alright but doesnt really fit in a metal band.
