Focal Solo6 6.5-inch Powered Studio Monitor Reviews

2-way Powered Studio Monitor with 6.5" Woofer, 1" Tweeter, and Focus Mode (each)

Ultra-precise monitoring is a crucial part of pro-level audio production. Focal's Solo6 offers exactly that. This 2-way powered studio monitor delivers unprecedented transparency, unrivaled definition, precise dynamics, and a true-to-life soundstage — everything you need to get inside your mix. Solo6 is loaded with Focal's vaunted beryllium inverted-dome tweeter and composite sandwich "W" cone, plus a large laminar port for distortion-free low-frequency reproduction. You also get a convenient Focus mode, which transforms Solo6 into a 1-way, frequency-limited speaker to ensure that your mixes translate to smaller playback systems. Solo6 features an automatic, defeatable standby mode, low and high shelving, a 160Hz lowpass filter, and inserts for easy wall mounting. If you demand top-of-the-line monitoring for your smaller mix room, then Focal's Solo6 is an excellent, high-quality solution.

Best two way monitors I've ever used.

By Matt from Atlanta GA on November 13, 2023 Music Background: Recording and Mixing Engineer

For a two way monitor, I highly doubt that you will find much better than this. They sound better in my room than my Neumann kh310's that cost 2,000 more per pair. The beryllium tweeter is phenomenal, and the stereo imaging is elite. They are a fun and inspiring speaker to listen to but the translation doesn't suffer from that, they translate great. I mostly work on Rap and R&B and the definitely are the best tool I have used for hearing vocal top end. I always reference to these when mixing the high end of vocals. Being a two way near field they can only get so loud but they are plenty loud enough for mixing. If you want a quality two way near field I can't recommend these enough, I have used plenty of two way near fields in my career and these top all of them.

Major upgrade- Three Dimensional and defined!

By Joseph May from Charlotte, NC on May 23, 2023 Music Background: Musician, Owner "Alta Mira Recordings"

These have been a major upgrade to my mixing room. I am hearing songs in an entirely new way, especially with the clarity of low and and the three dimensional nature of mid range and high end. I completed the 20 hour run in period and have been trying to re-mix tracks that I have previously worked on, and am getting more clear and concise mixes than I got on my previous monitoring set up (Yamaha HS5's).

Namely I am able to clearly make out 40-80hz like never before, and it's not boomy and resonant in my room, like I have experienced with some subs, it's very tight and staccato. Also I am able to monitor very clearly while listening around 70db-75db, I have no need to go any louder than that to make out details.

I am excited to make more killer mixes for clients using these, but in the meantime I'm just enjoying listening to Steely Dan in my mixing room.

Translation is all

By Brian from Wisconsin on April 9, 2023 Music Background: Mo Skeets and the BZ Rockets, guitar, piano, percussion

You will still need to learn your room for bass frequency mixing, no panacea exists for that. But God's honest truth, exactly how it sounds when you mix is how it sounds wherever you play it back. It's a hard reality to face when you realize your car stereo is actually terrible. These monitors have taught me more about the sound of my favorite albums than anything I have ever had before.

BEAUTIFUL HIGH QUALITY MONITORS. MY THIRD SET OF FOCAL MONITORS.

Don't Buy

By Garland Taylor on December 9, 2022 Music Background: Retired hobbyist and Musician

I bought a pair of these speakers a few years ago. One of the
speakers quit powering up. I took the back off to see if I could
repair it. The power receptacle and switch are both jacketed in
molded plastic that was done by Focal. There is no reason for
that. It makes it very hard to test for power.
I finally determined that the receptacle switch was bad. I
tried to e-mail Focal customer service to inquire about that part.
I received no reply. I contacted Sweetwater by phone and the
representative stated that I should contact Focal about parts for
service work and had no other alternatives.
