Snark ST-8 Really Great Tuner
I've used pretty much every Snark product that has come out and I gotta say that I love this new release of the Super Tight Tuner. I've used it on acoustics and electrics and the tuner tracked great and is VERY precise. I play my acoustic guitar tuned down a step and half to c# which can easily give a tuner problems but the Super Tight Snark tracked great, same thing on my Baritone Electric, as well as my bass. Highly recommend!!
Great Product and Price
You can't go wrong with this tuner.
Snark ST-8 Super Tight Chromatic Tuner
This is a great tuner incredibly accurate and very easy to use. This tuner works great on my bass and guitars. Added features such as Tap Tempo Metronome and Pitch Calibration is fantastic. I highly recommend this tuner and for the price this is a "must have" tuner! Thank you Sweetwater and Snark. Sweetwater customer service is second to none.
Works perfectly!
Simply put, it's the best clip on tuner out there in my opinion.
The little guy gets the job done.
Nice little tuner, and very accurate. I have compared it to some more costly tuners and it is always correct. Construction seems sturdy enough, but it won't last forever. The screen is very bright and easy to see. For the price it's great.
Great tuner!
These tuners are very accurate and easy to use. And, the price is great! Because the price is so good, I've got one for each guitar.
Snark tuner
It's just easy to use and easy to see. If you think about it. That's all we ever asked for
Fantastic Tuner For The Price
I have one of these tuners and I like it better than the new Snark Silver because I like the read out on it. The newer one does have some extra features but none that I would use. The Super Tight Snark does all I need in a tuner. I do primarily have guitars electric and accoustic.
Awesome little tuner!
Don't let the size fool you this little tuner is awesome. It is brightly lit, works great even when there is background noise that you can't control. You don't have to find a quiet place to tune up. It's the best tuner I have found and I love it. Thanks!
Snark supet tight 8
Ive had snark and korg clip on tuners on each acoustic guitar i own.
This snark st- 8 is the best. There maybe better clip on tuners out there, but i havent seen or used them yet.im currently replacing all previous model snark, and korg tuners, with the st 8 from snark.its much easier to read. But the main reason i tried it,is because of my 12 string guitars.they are a job to restring and keep tuned. This tuner has the capability of automatically deciphering the octave difference between the thicker and thinner first 8 strings.amazing ,to be able to tune the 12 strings without having to hold strings down on the 11th fret to doule check..Im sold on it fir just that reason, let alone the other functions it possess.
My first chromatic tuner
Well after some 30 plus years with my Seiko analog Tune Master I decieded to upgrade to a Chromatic super tight headstock tuner. I was really happy when it got here and went to try it out immediatly. First thing I noticed was how small it is. I was kind of disappointed at first wondering if my crummy eyes could even read it. Surprise it is large and bright enough to read easily. It does have a bunch of features, most I dont think I will ever use but who knows and I would rather have. Them than not. So basically a really good tuner at a great price, guess it's time to get rid of the old analog tuner and join the 2020,s. Thanks Sweetwater great product!
Snark super8
Have one on the headstock of each guitar i own.no need for any other tuning tools.
Snark st-8 clip on tuner
This thing works great quick response, very accurate love it
Fantastic
Great product at a great price.
Awesome
I've always been a snark fan and this tuner hasn't changed my mine I'm still a fan. It fits tightly on my bass head stock and on my other guitars as well. It's small, tough, accurate and well made. you should get one you'll be pleased!
Snark tuner
I bought snark tuner when they first came can't live without it the perfect part of your guitar gear
Great tuner
I've used snark for a while now and no reason to switch from them... super accurate, small and excellent visability in any lighting.... what's NOT to like????
great little tuner
Hey whats not to love about this tuner. It's small, easy to use, and works off vibration which was a biggie for me since a lot of times I play my electrics unplugged. Great tuner and great customer service provided by Sweetwater who wrote the book on happy customers. After about a dozen dealings with Sweetwater I can't imagine even wanting to deal with another company.
Just what I needed
As a new guitar player, I was having a hard time keeping my guitar in tune. I don't have perfect pitch down, so having something to guide me to the correct notes to tune my guitar to was incredibly helpful. It's very accurate, gives me great tone, and is super easy to read, even in a well lit environment. And, as always, Sweetwater delivered quickly, and with the little bag of candy that my daughter loves when I order new gear from them. Thanks again, Sweetwater. I will always recommend both your products and excellent customer service.
Snark ST-8 Clip-on Super Tight Chromatic Tuner
Great Item that I purchased to go along with my Guild F-250CE.
Works exactly as described and its low-profile and adjustability is perfect.
Snark tuner
I've been playing Bass for over50 years best tuner I've found.
Amzingly durable
I can get any tuning I wish for all my guitars.
Tuner
Very satisfied!! Works really well for beginners.
SNARK ST-8 tuner
A fine tuner, the Snark clips on firmly, and tunes very well. A mention included says it could dent certain finishes. I tune and remove it with no problems. Very clear to the eye, it's accurate and readable on stage.
Snark ST 8
This is my second Snark. I liked the first one so much I got another one , so now I can keep one in both my cases. If for some reason I get another bass , I'll get another Snark. Easy to use , accurate , a little more robust than the older ones and because it's a clip on , I don't have to make any noise to tune. When it's not on my bass , it clips on nicely to the handle of my amp. Whats not to like?
Cool tuner
Works great! No more having to plug in to tune. Easier than using my iPhone tuner app.
Cheapest thrill in a long while.
I know it is usually the big ticket purchases, I "Worship" but this rocked my world! Great if you have a lot guitars. It beats a pedal there also, in some ways. Although, you still want a decent tuner pedal or two, this will get some serious mileage.
Snark tuner
Excellent product
Simple
Does what it should
Durable.
Super Tight
I got my first SN 8 free when I bought Gibson guitar from Sweetwater. I was very impressed and surprised with the ease, accuracy and easy reading display. I have since purchased several more for each guitar I use.
Little clip on tuner
Snark clip on tuner, accurate and convenient to use, nice and bright in the dark!
Great lil tuner

Was time to replace my headstock tuners so ordered a pair of these Snarke ST-8's from Sweetwater - excellent pricing, fast processing & shipping - and the ST-8s work very well, easy to read in daylight conditions, accurate & fast.
Great tuner
It's fast, accurate and easy to read. Can't beat it.
Nice
Simple to use and its fast in giving you a reading. I'm glad I asked my sales representative Tyler about which one to get. Super happy with this easy to use tuner! For the price everyone wins!
Snark ST-8
Accurate, easy to read and the response is fast on acoustic or solid body and semi hollow electric.
It looks cool. Best tuner I've owned so far.
Take it off if you plan on slinging your guitar around
I played a little too hard on our last song of the set and i have no clue where this thing went so here i am ordering another one. Otherwise a great tuner, highly recommended.
My go to tuner!
Tuners are numerous, and for clip-on style, this one has the goods. I tried many over time, including rack, pedal, and pocket types. I found the convenience of clip-on tuners when borrowing one from a friend during practice. It was one of the other Snark models. I looked into clip-on tuners and quickly purchased my trusted brand of tuner (brand name withheld) and was not satisfied.
As a bassist playing 5 and 6 string, the low B string was a challenge for my first clip-on. After that, I looked at all the Snark offerings, I purchased this one due to the display. Being different than the one I had borrowed, I figured it just had a different display. To my satisfaction, not only was the display easier to look at, the tuner seems to respond more quickly and that is a big deal for spot tweaks while playing bass, and I mean "while playing". The only issue I have periodically is the rubber cover on one of the clamp sides can pop off. A dab of adhesive paste from a glue stick and that problem was all but eliminated.
This tuner was all I needed to become a fan of Snark. So much so, I just purchased a second one to put in another gig bag.
Give it a chance and I think you'll be impressed.
Great Tuner
Great Digital tuner that helps me keep my guitar in tune. This invaluable little device is critical for a beginner like me as I practice hitting chords and notes correctly.
Snark to the rescue
This product is the ticket for what I needed. I have tried a few styles of tuners and clip-ons seem to be the way to go. What I like best about this the fast response and easy to read display. Most importantly, the ability to accurately sense the low B string on a bass, even when drop tuned. I won't mention other brands, but this ability alone was spotty at best on another brand's tuner.
I have not used it long enough to assess durability (say over years of use), but for now it appears well built and performs as, if not better than expected.
Snark ST-8
Great tuner. Accurate and simple. Perfect for acoustic instruments. Buy several and keep them in each case. (If the batteries lasted longer, this review would get 5 stars) What more can you ask for?
1st Ever
I bought this in April (2017); It was recommended by My Sweetwater Sound Engineer - Shawn Easterling.
THANK YOU SHAWN!
It's a nice little unit - easy learning curve.
Past that, I'm not much good for pros/cons because it's my first ever tuner thingee...
IMO, it is a bit of a battery hog.
Figure minor use for the last 7 months - meh... Maybe that's good - I have no idea.
I might try an ST-2 for *****-n-giggles just because it's RED and has pointy thingees for bars.
Tuned in
I love Snark tuners, I have at least 3, they stay put on the headstock and they're simple to use and they're accurate. The face is easy to read which saves eye strain. My only complaint is that the rubber pads on the clip come off too easily, the could be fixed by using an adhesive to keep the pad attached.
Tuner
I needed a tuner for my new guitar so I don't need to switch one out with another guitar. This one is just fine.
Works great
Fast & accurate. Only complaint is that it's hard to read outside on a sunny day.
Money wisely spent!
A few months ago I purchased the Snark guitar tuner. I thought, "Ok, a tuner for x amount of dollars... not a lot to spend for a tuner." However, when it arrived and I tested it out, I was so stoked by the Snarks precision, light weight and ease of use for the amount I spent... for any amount for a tuner this good. It's rugged, stores away in my guitar case, and is super sensitive. Now, I'm not suggesting you tune your guitar this way, but I was so amazed by how sensitive the Snark is that I wanted to press the issue a bit further. I own a super shallow S series Ibanez 6 string. We all know that you clip the Snark onto the head stock, but I wanted to test it's sensitivity so I clipped it to the treble horn of my guitar and it tuned perfectly! So, I took it a step further just for fun. I then clipped it to my strap... and the little Snark worked perfectly again! I have only one little complaint and that is with the rubber foot that is connected to the Snark to allow for a solid and safe grip to your guitar. After removing it and replacing it about 12 times throughout the month, the rubber peeled off. I just hot glued it back on, but I really wished that had been more securely adhered. Overall, the Snark is a clear winner at price point, size, and ease of use as well as sensitivity. Spend the money, you won't regret it.
Good but very sensitive
I like this tuner but, it's very twitchy. works great on my two Yamaha's FG800, F325. Although my Ibanez RG421, doesn't seem too like it, also my old {21 years} Rogue strat copy seems to resonate more, so better tuning i suppose. overall seems to be a well built product.
snark: very good, but some (slight) reservations.
Easy to use. Will get you near the note, enough so fine tuning by ear is much easier. I've owned about 5 or 6 snarks and still have one clipped to most of my instruments. With a fresh battery, the display is fairly clear. Went to a workshop recently - almost every student had one (someone made a fortune).
They are battery hogs. Plan on always having a backup battery.
The rubber boots sometimes fall off and are hard to glue back on.
Sometimes the tuner will not pick up a signal from the head stock. A slight twist of the tuner corrects this (sometimes). Sometimes they just stop working, but they are cheap enough to throw away.
Excellent Tuner
Bought this to go with my Epiphone Les Paul 100th Anniversary guitar. It works excellently and is super easy to use.
Good tuner
Good tuner...just a bit slow, but the best Snark model I have owned (out of 3). I took a star away due to the slowness. But it is great quality and accuracy for the price. Right now I have one for each of my guitars.
great
Small, accurite, low cost, great tuner.
Nice features
I have had and still have a number of electronic tuners I use with guitars and fiddle. This is the one I like the best. It reads very quickly, it turns itself off if I forget to do it and means it still has a live battery when I use it next, It has the usual feature of counting rhythm across a wide range of meters. its controls are better thought out than other tuners I've had and function buttons work easily and logically.
Tight is Right
This Snark is much brighter and readable than a previous Snark (for Ukulele) tuner. It tends to lag sometimes, and will "lock up" now and then.
Very particular, and you have to be right on pitch. That's a good thing.
For Viola, I clip it on the music stand and that seems to work well, but a few off-pitch notes, and it locks me out and has to be reset. That's annoying.
Also have a Hartke, which I like better, but it does not have a backlight, so is difficult to read. The display of the Snark is plenty bright and easy to read.
This is not a bad tuner, and the price is right.
Important limitation!
Great tuner, however, beware that it's not for use on guitars with nitrocellulose finishes. In other words, for use on cheap guitars only.
Avoiding broken neck tabs
Some have mentioned the tabs that hold the head arm on can break off. My solution was to install very small zip ties around the tabs on each end, then cut off the zips excess length. So far the added strength seems to prevent breaking, even when I try to bend the arm too far. Mine (3 of them) are years old and still work fine with only a battery change along the way.
It's decent.
This is a good tuner for the price. I have three. They are not very bright. You can't seem them if your playing outside. The red is very hard to see. You have to get it almost exactly straight on. Some have complained of inaccuracy and short battery life but I have not experienced that. The TC Unitune is much better. You can see it very well from all angles. Even outside. It's also twice the price. The Snark is great as a living room tuner. It's also well suited for a dark stage. Just get a Unitune for outdoor gigs.
Good, but isnt very stable
It is better at tuning than my Korg tuner which is at double the price as it is more responsive and more accurate but the screen and neck snapped off the clamp and the socket chipped a little.
Good tuner but don't leave it on.
The Snark ST-8 works pretty well on different stringed instruments. Tried it on Ukelele, guitar, and bass guitar and it showed the tuning on all three of those instruments. You also don't have to plug in your guitar to tune. It's not the most accurate tuner but it was close enough that I didn't have any problems with it. Some good things about this tuner are that it's small enough to carry in your guitar case easily, has a bright light so you can see the notes, works on several instruments instead of only working for guitar, the clip feels like it's made of relatively good parts and that it'll last for a while, and the Snark is inexpensive so you can buy it or buy several.
Now the reason I probably wouldn't suggest this tuner to any touring/performing or studio musician is because the battery didn't last very long. It was left on for a few days and the battery was dead and I'd feel safer using a tuner with a power supply. Maybe someone who's more careful and is able to always make sure that it's always turned off would have better luck with it.
All in all, this tuner is alright and a good option for some, but it isn't something I'd buy again.
Supertight vs. Super Snark
First, I have the Super Snark, which I don't believe is any different in its componentry than the Supertight, sort of like a car with options you probably don't need, it's still the same car underneath it all.
Depending on your ability to compare various tuners on the same instruments, it is difficult at best to determine if one is more accurate than another. I own several, including a couple of old, reliable, but rather inaccurate (a subjective judgment in my opinion) Korg GT3s. However, I recently purchased a Takamine P5DC from Sweetwater with its somewhat sophisticated electronics which includes a tuner. I won't bore you with the details of the guitar's flawlessness, but suffice it to say, if the onboard tuner is of the same quality, then I trust its accuracy. In a head to head comparison, the Super Snark and the Takamine tuner were almost exact to the point of being too fine to argue over. Then I tested it against the Korg GT3. While the old Korg is a little jumpy, it wasn't too far off either the Takamine or the Super Snark. Therefore, if the electronics are the same in the ST-8 and the Super Snark (which cost $30), I would say, unless you are blessed with perfect pitch, the ST-8 is a bargain at $12.59, a real bargain.
Great, but not long lasting
I am on my third Snark because of their great accuracy and good frequency tracking. However, I think this is the last. Their weak link is the goose-neck between the clamp and the actual tuner. It passes the vibrations on to the tuner. Eventually these 2 parts start losing contact and tuning becomes a frustrating hassle.
Broke in less than a year
I bought one of these to replace another one I had for several years. I like the way it works, but the clip broke in less than a year.
good enough
lasted for 3-1/2 years....it's accurate for 3-1/2 years.
Confused Buyer
I bought a 2nd Snark ST-8 Super-Tight tuner because I liked my first one so much. However, when my 2nd one came, it had less features on it. There is no Tap Tempo button and you can't press the 'down arrow' button to get the sweetened E-Flat display. It's a bit of a disappointment and I don't understand why the differences. I Googled around but still couldn't find a good explanation. Anyway I'm not going to waste any more time on it or bother with return hassles but next time, I'll just spend the extra money to get a Peterson StroboClip instead.
Great little tuner, but....
They need to just get rid of the metronome function. It is not useful, and when the battery gets low, mine switches to that function on its own. Quite frustrating. I would rather that function just not exist on this tuner.
battery
came with dead battery. took 30 min. to get battery hooked up, hassle. not sure if peterson is worth the high price,

Pretty good, except...
I like this tuner, basically, except the lower rubber pad will not stay attached. I have tried several different adhesives, but nothing works. This leaves the possibility for marring the guitar without that pad. Also the pinch points are too slick. The tuner is prone to slip out of the fingers and fly across the room when trying to mount it. Bad juju. This is not a patch on Sweetwater. It's a good company with great people. But this tuner is not a good product up to their standards. Sweetwater: tell Snark to fix this.
Not bad but not enough "visible" scale
Don't get me wrong I have and like Snark tuners. That's why I couldn't give it less than 3 stars. This one however may be a little too accurate for me. Meaning I like the other Snarks better with finer more "visible" scale. This one seems to have less "visible" scale so it's either dead nuts on or not. I play with a lot of open tunings so more visible scale helps me know better where I am without busting strings. Likely buy more Snarks in the future, just not this one.
Okay for the price but not very precise or accurate
First the good news: I've owned the old SN-1 Snarks. The ST-8 is in some ways a notable improvement. The display is much brighter and easier to read. I actually bought this to replace an old Snark that was having very bad tracking issues making it unusable on gigs. For acoustic shows, they are so much more convenient than a pedal tuner though far less accurate. I always wished my SN-1 would track pitch faster and more accurately though. Based on these claims for the ST-8, I decided to give the update a shot. It gets the faster portion, but I'm disappointed by the rest.
The bad news: The new display shows less precision in the readout than the older SN-1 making it harder to dial in fine adjustments. This is probably to cover up the poor accuracy. In practice +/-3 cents is probably the best you can hope for based on my comparison with a strobe tuner and that is about the same as the SN-1. Snark doesn't publish accuracy specifications and I can see why. They just aren't very impressive. It's good enough to get close enough, but slight intonation drift up and down the neck will show where it is lacking. Play anything with a capo and you'll wish it was just a little better.
I ended up putting this in my case as a spare and purchased a TC Polytune Clip which specs a +/ 0.02 cent accuracy in strobe mode. The Polytune is significantly more expensive but I guess you get what you pay for.
Got sticky after a while.
I don't remember how long ago I bought it, but for some reason it got very sticky. And nothing will fix that.
I Googled the problem and it looks like I'm not the only one.
I did buy it a few years ago. Some of the comments I've seen have said there's got sticky after a few months.
Hopefully, Snark is making them out of better materials now.
Had to trash it. But other than that, I liked it. Too bad. :(
It’s great while it works.
I've purchased three of these prior to writing a review. They've long been said to be some of the best clip on tuners you can buy, so I gave it multiple chances before throwing in the towel. They do a great job as far as tuning goes, but the quality is ridiculously bad. They literally fall apart. I'm not hard on my gear either, but these fall apart on you after not even a year of use whether that be the part that clips onto the headstock, the part that swivels, and the actual tuner itself. The part that holds the screen started separating from the rest of the tuner, then the display went very dim, and now it's not even sensitive as far as reading the vibrations of the strings. Not buying another one. I'll just stick to my amp tuner.
Not What I Expected from Tuner
Purchased several of these Tuners to teach my students how to tune Ukuleles & Guitars at school. First problem was protective foot cover coming off. Sweetwater sent a few extra in case not found to put back on. Only use these once a year at school & Jr. College class for beginner players and now the head of tuner began separating from tuner. This year two have broken from where tuner swivels on clip-on. Do not recommend now. Not sure now what clip-on tuner to recommend to my students.
mr
I bought a Super Snark about a month ago.
I find that it is not very accurate. The increments in the flat/sharp lights are too general. It is best when tuning just one string, for example, the e string. Then tuning the rest of the strings to that E.
Didn't seem to work for my mandolin.
Unfortunately, this didn't seem to get the notes right on the mandolin. Maybe there is a trick to using it, but not happy with it and will probably gift it to someone else since it doesn't pay to return it. I would pluck the D string and it would say G.
Sorry I Bought It
seems like a lot of $$ for a clip-on tuner, but I thought "Oh, what the hell" and ordered it. But I do not like it. Why? I wish I could tell you. It's just weird, I know. Maybe I've just gotten used to using my old friend, the Peterson Strobe Tuner on my iPhone. I have several tuners, but this one doesn't "do it" for me.
Not impressed......
I had a SN-2 for YEARS that I loved. It worked great, was always accurate, and held up well (provided I wasn't overly rough on it). It got dropped, and the head finally broke off. I replaced it with the ST-8, and I've been....less than impressed.
For starters, it doesn't tune accurately, and ambient noise (like other players) affects it. It's almost like it's tuning with a mic, rather than the vibration pads. The ST-2 had a mic option on it at one point -- the ST-8 says it doesn't, but there's a small hole on the front face that I can't imagine being for anything else... Either way, not the most accurate tuner by any stretch of the imagination.
Second, I was so fed up with it today, that I started trying to find the product manual online to see if I had missed anything, or if I was just an idiot that couldn't work a tuner. Turns out, mine is missing half of the "features" Snark boasts on the ST-8. Mine is missing the tap-tempo metronome -- like the button isn't even there -- and the transpose feature is not working. Personally I wouldn't really use either, but still frustrating that it's advertised, but for some reason not included...
Either way, I'm not impressed. In fact, I'm so unimpressed, that I'm going to have to buy another tuner just to have one that I can trust.
easy to break.
i threw this once on a table just causally and it snapped.
Not Precise
This thing gets your close, but not what you would call in tune. You have to finish by ear, which is fine if you're just playing in your living room, but if you have an audience? Forget it, these are trash.
You can tune any string to what the Snark says is "in tune", and then wiggle your tuning knob so you can hear the note waver - but the tuner needle stays steady. You are not in tune to any precision at all, and the resulting chords sound terrible.
I use a free app on my phone, for comparison, and the app can tell if you are a couple of seconds out of tune. This tuner cannot. Pedal tuners are the way to go if you're plugged in. If you're playing acoustic? Better to use an app.
Should Have Waited, Disappointed
I had a different tuner in my cart and Sweetwater reached out to say it was on back order. They offered the Snark instead. I was hesitant because of some less than stellar reviews on the Snark and I should've waited. This will not tune my guitar correctly. I have watched videos and researched to make sure I'm doing it right and I always end up going back and tuning with my old tuner or getting it decent by ear. If it worked like it should it would save me some time and efficiency but as it is I don't like it at all.
Warning: Do NOT Use on Headstocks with Nitrocellulose Finishes
The Snark ST-8 tuner seems to work fine, but do not buy it for use on any guitar with Nitro finish on the headstock. This includes many well-known guitar brands such as most Gibson Les Pauls and others. My complaint is that it's way too easy to miss this fact before you buy. As of the date I bought this (and still as of the date I'm writing this review), this fact is only mentioned in one very small note at the end of the description section of the product listing. It will mar a portion of the nitro finish with only one use! Hopefully, by the time you read this review, someone at Sweetwater will make this note into a warning and more prominently display it in the listing.
Trash
These are garbage, quite frankly. They work well as long as the clip holds up, but it snaps in half sooner than later. I've ordered two, assuming the first one was a lemon. The second one did the same thing. The design's really cool and they function as advertised while they last. They just aren't durable at all. There are better options in the same price range.
Does not hear the low E on Bass
The description clearly says "the Snark ST-8 is the last clip-on tuner you'll ever need, no matter what instrument you play". I bought it for bass guitar. Right out of the box it does not "hear" the low E string. Spoke to some friends who own it and they all agreed. Does not matter where it is clipped on.
Snark ST-8 Clip-on Tuner
Can not use this on all my instruments. There is a warning of finish damage to my Gibson, I should have researched further before ordering.
Not very durable
Overall, the tuner did an OK job. But, I've had several of these and eventually the head breaks off. One of the little tabs on the back that holds the head will snap off. It's happen to me and to several of my students.
Poor quality materials and construction
My Snark tuner just broke, it's the second one in two years that got thrown in the garbage pail. The first one after 9 months just stopped working electronically. The second one just know broke ar the hinge. The rubber - plastic holes just broke open, rendering the tuner useless. Buy another more reputable brand clip on tuner.
Horrible
Always displays the notes more flat than they are. I cannot even use this tuner. I emailed Snark to the contact on their website twice and got no response. Do not buy. I bought a Fender tuner which was less costly and it works perfectly. Picture below is a perfectly tuned D#.
Self-Destructs
Initially loved these tuners. Had 3 on 3 different guitars. When batteries are very fresh, you can read the screen ok but a small decrease in voltage equals dim screen that is very hard to read playing in outdoor shade. All the bodies eventually pulled apart as described in other reviews. The other issue is the ball and socket setup that allows you to turn the face toward you. Every one broke at the body and just from gentle adjusting - not from rough use. Started out with a 5, ended up with a 1. Much better options.
Exterior turns gooey and sticky.
I thought the Snark worked fine as a tuner but the exterior turns into something nasty and sticky over time. I will not buy another one.
BEWARE! Sticky surface
I have about 10 of these little buggers which I've collected over the past few years. Today I went to retrieve one and found it felt like it had been dipped in glue. The entire thing, all the plastic, was sticky, gummy-- it felt terrible. I grabbed another one, same thing. My guess is the cheap plastic has a lifespan, after which it self-destructs, rendering your tuner unusable. Unless, of course, you like handling sticky, disgusting things, and if that's what you're into, who am I to judge?
Other than that, it's a good tuner. The pitch accuracy is usably accurate. The display is nice and bright and easy to read. The only caveat is that it really doesn't know what to do with the low E of a bass guitar (and to a lesser extend the A). On my guitars, though, it works quite well.
But that sticky crap means I won't ever be buying another Snark. The Age of Snark is over.
Works for a little while
This tuner lasted a couple months and lost accuracy and LCD flickers. Tried a couple new batteries to see if it would fix, and it did not. Would not recommend.
why I just smashed my snark to pieces
they are great for all your tuning needs and I have been using them for years,, recently I was using a tight fit on a brand new, just delivered ,,ES 335 , and the thing being so tight , when removing it, it snapped off at the same time leaving marks on the head stock!!! no joke this really happened , I was so upset I threw that snark on the ground and stomped it to pieces
Failed within two months
Disappointed. You get what you pay for.
Snark tuner
Tuner seems accurate and easy to use. The mounts suck. The three prongs break off. Not worth the money.
Too Slow and Don't leave it clipped to your Guitar.
This clip-on tuner is painfully slow to respond and will test your patience with inaccuracies. I get that it's a bargain but next time I'll pay more for less aggravation. And BTW, read the enclosed operation notes and you'll discover that the rubber clip pad is bad for just about every guitar surface outside of an old cigar box. Pass.
IT STINKS (DO NOT BUY)
the SNARK tuner is horrible. I says mt guitars in tune when I 100% know its not. Do not buy this!
You get what you pay for...or don’t pay for
I hate these tuners. I've had a number of them and have the same complaint about all of them:
1) the battery drains fast
2) If the room is not whisper quiet, you won't be able to tune
3) Even of the room is quiet, it doesn't tune well.
This may be fine for the casual player. If you are a working musician, take a pass.
You buy alot of batteries
It does not have an auto shut off. The on / off button (in front) is easily pressed and will turn on in your guitar case etc. I have had to replace my battery 4 times in the past 6 months because it turned on and died..
God, I hate this thing.
I"ve had two or three of these and the same problems with all of them:
1) They eat batteries voraciously. I should take stock in #2032s and maybe it would be worth it. Of course it always dies right before a show.
2) any ambient sound affects tuning. So be sure to tell you audience and other band members to be completely silent while you tune.
3) it"s a crap shoot as to whether it will pick up the vibrations in the first place. For a simple device, it is exceedingly persnickety.
My Sweetwater guy steered me to the TC Electronic Initine clip which I absolutely *love*.
Lame
It tunes fine, but is difficult to clip onto a bass headstock because the handles you squeeze are too slick. Also, the rubber insert came apart after a few uses, so I'm going back to a different tuner.
Not working
Ate up my battery, then I replaced the battery with a new one, then all functions work but the runner. Does not pick up!
How to get my money back?
Hard hit
Okay people!! So this thing SUPPOSEDLY can be used no matter what instrument you play....as long as it has strings. Snare wires don't count. So it is good no matter what instrument you play except to tune a drum. Not useful. The price should have been the givaway.
Not accurate enough if you have a good ear
Like other reviewers, I've found that there's a fairly wide range of inaccuracy even when the green is lit. I've tried to work around this by tuning up from flat and then stopping immediately when the green comes on. Sometimes I can get all six strings comparable, but almost always I have to manually adjust all strings. Not a good product unless you're a rank beginner who can't tell if the instrument is in tune. I'll check out the TC Polytune Clip everyone recommends.
Not accurate enough
At first, I thought these were really cool tuners. But, after months of use, I've gotten very aggravated by the lack of accuracy. I end up having to manually tune my guitars because these tuner's only get you close, but not close enough for octaves across strings to be in tune. That results in out of tune chords, triads, double stops, and octaves.
On a very accurate Plek'd neck guitar, my ear is more accurate than Snark tuners!
I'm replacing both of my Snarks with Polytune 2 tuners by TC Electronic.
