Before you buy a Charvel...
I've had hundreds of guitars pass through my hands, expensive guitars I wouldn't give 2 cents for and $500 dollar guitars I'll never part with. These have one of the best necks I've ever played it might be "perfect". Frets are taller smooth and people always mention other brands necks but this neck was rolled and smooth like a broken in neck. The Floyd is good but to me there is no sub for a real Made in Germany Floyd and I found a cheap used one and slapped it on you don't have to but for me I did. Pickups are hot vintage and can scream. I don't like actives because batteries in guitars are a nuisance to me but these I would live with. It just feels right as soon as you pick it up
Surprisingly impressed!
I was looking for a decent quality/value shred guitar to mess around with and MOD. I never imagined I'd like it as much as I have. I own a handful of high quality/expensive guitars that I use on a regular basis and love to play. And though this is not my favorite, I always find time to rip on it a few hours a week! Super fun to play!!! Having modified it with high end components helps.
Here are some of my thoughts!
1. Playability is excellent! Super comfortable and fast! I have big hands, so feels smaller than normal but nice. Super fun to play!
2. Frets and edges were level and rounded nicely... no work needed.
3. Pickups sound really good! (surprisingly) vintage like... does everything pretty well!
4. FRT Special Tremolo works and sounds fine, but... (have never been a fan... they won't last that long if you use it a lot) I installed the Original FRT w/brass block... better tone, sustain, and will last a long time! Left in the pop-in bar... love that!
5. Tunners are ok (I changed them out to Chrome Gotoh)
6. Really easy access to the higher frets (love that)
7. The neck is sturdy... spoked truss wheel and 14' radius are good
8. Satin Mahogany body resonates nicely
9. Good built guitar for value... so you can modify into a complete BEAST for $200-$300 if desired.
10. Can't go wrong with this one! Sweetwater is the best! Especially if you're considering a cheaper priced guitar. They have really good quality control... lemons go back to factory and they sell us only the good ones!
Niiiiice Guitar!
This is the first guitar I've got since I came here in the US and it just feels so great that I can't even put it down! Also, Sweetwater has wonderful customer service. It is definitely the place I am looking for!
This Guitar Just Rocks !!
I just bought one of these and it just Rocks !
Out of the box and go.. period...
I had to tweak a couple strings for intonation, But it's ready to go !
Action is spot on... Floyd rose is always in tune !
And as always Ben Robertson is my guy !
Only one issue
This guitar was everything I wanted. Plain maple neck, no slant to the head stock, super strat body with a floyd and active pickups.
The pickups are my favorite I have tried... yet they are also the issue!
My bridge pickup has a severe feedback problem. Amp turned down, standing 5 feet away with my back facing it... the split second I stop strumming "RIIIIIIIINNNNNG!!!!"
It is become so bad I am trying to get EMG to do warranty service on the pickup... otherwise this guitar is absolutely perfect for a dad rock, stay at home jammer like me.
If I could change one thing, it would be giving the neck joint Fender spacing so I could buy a different neck in the future.
