DSM Humboldt Electronics Simplifier DLX Zero Watt Dual Channel & Reverb Stereo Amplifier
DSM Humboldt Electronics Simplifier DLX Zero Watt Dual Channel & Reverb Stereo Amplifier Reviews
The DSM & Humboldt Simplifier DLX is the natural progression of the original Simplifier — many weekend and worship guitarists’ favorite “zero-watt” analog amplifier. This pedalboard-sized stereo analog preamp and cab sim is every bit as versatile as having two fully independent amps at your feet. Dual independent signal paths allow you to meticulously dial in clean and dirt channels or, alternatively, run two wildly different tones in parallel to create elaborate wet/dry direct rigs. As with the original, each channel of the Simplifier DLX is driven by a triad of essential amp British and American amp tones. Only now, a 3-way Mode switch (Clean/Crunch/Lead) allows you to really slather on the saturation or dial up the dynamics in a hurry. Cab simulation and a new 3-way reverb can be dialed in per amp path, as can the Simplifier DLX’s simulated power tube emulation and critical feedback-based Resonance and Presence controls. Just like the original Simplifier, the Simplifier DLX makes a supreme pedal platform — its balanced TRS mono/stereo input stage and stereo FX return bring your boutique overdrives, stereo delays, and reverbs to life. Factor in a dedicated headphone out and aux in for live monitoring, an FX pass-through for handing off stereo effects to a pair of stage amps, low-noise stereo balanced XLR outs for sending signal to FOH, and a Spread switch that lets you achieve wide faux-stereo effects from mono guitar signals, and the DSM & Humboldt Simplifier DLX pedalboard preamplifier is a top-tier option for traditional players as well as those seeking to leave the amp at home.
Nicing sounding pedal
Not without problems - Simplifier DLX issue confirmed, the post return signal is bleeding back into the start of the simplifier causing it to feedback if you have a sufficiently long reverb or delay in "using Stereo effect loop". This happens frequently, Helix Stomp into Stereo loop on DLX, with cab sim on of off or either XLR and 1/4 outs. Sweetwater could recreate it from the Reddits researched. Tried to setup 7CM, and even the non dual block patch is affected sometimes. It's a nice little pedal, running mono might work. DSM support resolution was " change for a mono cable in the send and that will solve your problem".. It's a nice little sounding pedal.....?..
Quit working
Just a couple of months after the warrenty expired, one channel of the deluxe quit working. While I was playing through it, B channel has no sound and A channel sounds like it is just going through the reverb. It sounded great at first, and has worked great in the past. I have tested it several times with same results. I have sent a message to DSM Humboldt and am waiting for a reply. Giving it a 2 half rating cause it did sound great plugged directly into my pa system.
A Massively Overlooked ‘Amp-In-A-Box’ Option
Great sound for live sound silent stage use
I'm speechless about the Simplifier DLX
I got the Simplifier DLX about two months ago and, I've been using it as my toy to go during my last 2 shows.
The sound quality, features and FX-loop capability in a tiny box are out of the world.
A quick shout to my Sweetwater rep. Jordan G. He is amazing and helped me out to get the Simplifier DLX on a timely manner.
Amazing
I feel like I am constantly chasing the best guitar tone while saving my back.
In the Simplifier DLX, I think I have found it. I am having so much fun just playing.. no menu diving or button tweaking.. turn a couple knobs and go.
Dsm humboldt is awesome
I've had my simplifier dlx for two weeks now. There simply isn't a bad sound in this thing. Only complaint is the writing is super tiny, but the layout is super easy to memorize.and my sweetwater rep, Braden, is the best!
This thing is the best!
Just got my simplifier dlx. Wow, is this thing versatile! The real gem of this unit on the dirty channel is the resonance knob.but there are tons of things to explore on here. And as usual, Braden my rep is the man! Painless transaction, super fast shipping. I'm definitely hooked on sweetwater!
Great sound, and output options
I love the sounds you can get from this, the cab sim is pretty convincing too, and the reverb sounds good. Only gripe is how small it is, and the knobs are crammed but that might be a positive to others. I can reproduce some very solid cleans and distorted rock sounds from this, and it keeps a quiet noise floor from guitar to pedals in front to the Humboldt and out to a uad interface.
So, SO good.
This thing...
Best innovation for gigging musicians since beer. All sounds are fire. No noise, no problems with good power, which is YOUR responsibility as a gigging musician.
I just have it set up like this:
Tuner=> Keeley Tone Workstation=> into Simplifier =>FX Send=> Dunlop Mini Crybaby => Keeley Supermod Workstation => EHX 720 looper=>FX return. So good. Just get it. The single-channel one is pretty amazing, too, I just prefer the "amp" distortion. This is really an amazing marvel of engineering. Whoever had noise issues probably just had bad cables or bad power, because this thing is actually super simple and only has top-notch components.
DSM Humbolt simplifier deluxe hum problem
The first one I received had a loud hum. Ty and the tech team sent me a replacement unit. It also had a hum but Ty figured it out that it was most likely my power supply. Ty suggested and sent me a power supply and it works great, no hum. If dsm humbolt would include the power supply this could have been avoided, and they should for this price. Thanks to the great team at sweetwater for saving the day. My advice is to get the suggested power supply to use.
Simplifier DLX
This is fantastic being the size of it and all analog. I really think the sounds it has totally amazing. I ALSO RECOMMEND it very much. Thank you Sweetwaters.
Eventually I will get one that works right...
I have had: Strymon Iridium, Walrus ACS1 and now this... sorta. The DSM is the best IMHO, even with issues. The first one had volume balance issues (well except for number 2... it sounded like poo). The second barely worked. The third one; the top two rows of knobs and switches do nothing... Luckily Sweetwaters customer service is awesome... I am confident I will get a good unit eventually.
Amazing
I love this amp.
It sounds real. Even the clean fender settings. I play in a duo with a piano/vocalist and it reduces the stage volume exponentially. It takes a little getting used to, but it's worth it.
Haven't tried it with drums so I can't say what that is like. But I have recorded with it and like it.
