PRS Silver Sky Electric Guitar - Midnight Rose with Maple Fingerboard Reviews
The PRS Silver Sky was designed by Paul Reed Smith and built to John Mayer's specifications. This vintage-inspired guitar boasts a familiar shape with an eye-catching contrasting tone in its cutaway scoop. Its neck carve, scale length, and fingerboard radius were modeled after John's early-'60s instruments; however, a modified PRS-style headstock and locking tuners propel it firmly into the twenty-first century. Park this axe in front of any tube amp, and its sweet-sounding single-coil pickups will churn out glassy, musical tones with excellent note definition. Beyond that, the Silver Sky includes a bone nut, molded metal jack plate, retooled knobs, custom fret-wire, and PRS's double-action truss rod.

Possibly The Best Guitar I've Every Played
I'd been on my "perfect S-Style" search for a few years, and had bought and sold a few Fender Strats and non-Fender S-Style guitars along the way. And then one day I stumbled upon a SS at a local guitar shop and realized my search was over. I couldn't afford it at the time, but I couldn't stop thinking about that Silver Sky. I waited about a year to see if that feeling would vanish, and it didn't, so I pulled the trigger. And boy am I glad I did.
The cleans are so articulate on each string without being too glassy. Each of the five pickup selections are extremely usable, which isn't always the case on S-style guitars. The satin maple neck is extremely comfortable and smooth; I wouldn't shy away from the 7.25" radius if that is something that is holding you back from purchasing. I could go on and on about this instrument, and if anyone is out there looking for a great S-style guitar, the Silver Sky would be my first recommendation.
I also want to give a shout out to Larry Reed, who was extremely helpful throughout the process, and always is when I purchase new gear. I had him on the phone a few times, as the finish I originally wanted wasn't in stock. When I decided to make the change to a different finish that was in stock, he took care of everything within the hour and had the guitar shipped out the same day. If you end up with Larry as your Sales Engineer, you are definitely in good hands.
Love it so much I bought 2
I got a gen 1 in Tungsten and immediately fell in love. Neck profile is one of my favorites and the pickups are killer. Then earlier this year I decided to get a midnight rose with maple fingerboard. It has the same neck carve as my rosewood, just with a satin back. love them both. you can't go wrong
Old School Strat turned into a space ship!
PRS has done it again! This collab with Mayer is perfect! You've got to get your hands on one and try it for yourself.
STRAT with PRS Quality
Playability is incredible - probably the best of the many strats I own, including makes by Tom Anderson and Lentz. No fret buzz anywhere, despite low action. Stays in tune, too. Sound is big, clear and complex, rivalling that of my Lentz. No dips in output or treble in positions 2 and 4. Light weight is a welcome bonus. I would wholeheartedly recommend this guitar to strat-lovers. Service from Sweetwater excellent as usual - thank you, Ryan.
