Waves Silk Vocal Plug-in Reviews
Vocals are, without a doubt, one of the most challenging elements of music to mix. Not only are the nuances of every voice different, but how you might address the issues you encounter in the studio will depend on many additional variables. This is where the Waves Silk Vocal plug-in enters the frame. Silk Vocal is a smart EQ and dynamics processor engineered to minimize disruptions to visual clutter and overall workflow while providing a diverse array of sonic sculpting tools to help eliminate guesswork and intuitive access to various detailed solutions. Waves’s groundbreaking smart vocal engine technology is deployed with Silk by automatically scanning for resonances across roughly 2,000 distinct analysis bands, giving you a swath of options and approaches for addressing potential issues without eroding the human touch (or, ear, as it were). Harshness, boominess, and sibilance can be painlessly removed, while liner phase-processing curves, dedicated male and female voice modes, and an instantly adjustable midrange tuning control ensure ample power in finalizing your vocals without sacrificing character or musicality. Recording engineers at Sweetwater were delighted to learn that Silk Vocal features a built-in highpass filter, coupled with deep controls for gating, mixing, band soloing, band bypassing, Delta, Speed, and Precision. It all equates to a one-stop shop for full-spectrum vocal excellence.

Time saver, solid starting point presets when you just want to create.
If you just want to create and not engineer this is for you. I had studied many vocal chains and had a solid 3-5 plugins to get close to a "pro sound" I was fortunate to get this free during Waves holiday special and finally gave it some time today. Replaced my go to 2A-LA emulation however I still use the Pro Q3 and Fab Filter desser. Now the vocal sounds less muddy and more upfront. Every vocal is unique so this many not be for every mix but it is a great for a starting point. I still love the 2A-LA for the warm vintage sound. Each plugin has their pros and cons. Trust your ears and what you like. Check out the "RAW to PRO" presets and A-B them, sounds really nice to my ears in a full mix with guitars, drums, keys. Cheers! Have fun creating!
easy to use, good results
I have only used it on one song so far, but it was very easy to use and delivered great results. I didn't do any other EQ on the vocal, it sounded pure and natural just using the Silk Vocal plugin. I am not saying I won't be adding additional EQ in other songs, because I probably will depending on what I am looking for, but in this song there was no need to add anything.
Great for remixes
Great vocal plugin with a ton of different presets and an easy to use AI. I use it on a cappellas for remixes all the time.
