Epiphone 150th Anniversary Sheraton Semi-hollowbody Electric Guitar - Cherry Reviews

Semi-hollowbody Electric Guitar with Maple Top, Back, and Sides, Mahogany Neck, Laurel Fingerboard, 2 Mini Humbucking Pickups, and Tremotone Tailpiece - Cherry

Celebrate a century and a half of Epiphone excellence with the 150th Anniversary Sheraton! This guitar is a full-featured tribute to the early days of Epiphone’s acquisition by Gibson — a time when Gibson and Epiphone instruments were crafted side-by-side in Gibson’s historic Kalamazoo, Michigan factory. So, it’s only fitting that this Sheraton’s exceptionally resonant semi-hollow layered maple body is loaded with a pair of Gibson-made mini humbucking pickups that represent a tonal crossroads between single-coil shimmer and all-out humbucker might. Next, the 1-piece mahogany neck comes complete with a sleek slab of Indian laurel, all carved into a speedy ’60s SlimTaper profile for an effortless feel from the first fret all the way up to the 22nd. It’s all finished off with an elegant assortment of aesthetic appointments, including 7-ply body binding, glittering gold hardware, distinctive abalone/mother-of-pearl fingerboard inlays, and a period-correct Tremotone tailpiece for smooth and subtle tremolo tonalities.

Quickly Became My Favorite

By Mark from Indiana on January 22, 2024 Music Background: For fun

I picked one of these up a couple weeks ago in person. It surpassed every expectation I had, and it quickly became my favorite guitar. I opted to take the demo because I loved how it felt. I played it and I said,"I want this one."
It sounds GREAT through my Fender SuperSonic 22. It can take a surprising amount of distortion, too - the basic Boss DS1 sounds good with it. I haven't run it through the Wampler Velvet Fuzz yet. I'm not expecting any less favorable of a result. If you are looking, you won't be disappointed with this one.

Another Great Epiphone

By Eric Oswood from Woodstock, GA on October 3, 2023 Music Background: Former professional musician.

Epiphone has been making some nice guitars lately so when they announced the 150th anniversary collection I checked them out and picked two I really liked. The Sheraton Semi-hollowbody was one of those. The Sheraton is a fancier version of the 335 and is an Epiphone original model introduced in 1958. This reissue features Gibson USA mini humbuckers, CTS pots, Swithcraft pickup selector switch and output jack, and Mallory capacitors. Basically, it's all Gibson under the hood. It also features an Epiphone vibrato tailpiece like the ones used on the originals. Workmanship on this guitar is excellent with no visible finish flaws and great fret work. The mini humbuckers sound fuller than I was expecting and the playability is top shelf thanks to Sweetwater's 55 point inspection. My guitar was well packed by Sweetwater which was a good thing since the outer box showed quite a bit of damage thanks to FedEx. This has quickly become on of my favorite guitars and I have a large collection including many Gibsons. I have been playing since 1963 and this guitar holds its own against many more expensive guitars. I highly recommend this guitar for someone looking for a great guitar that offers something a little different. Thanks to Brian Campbell and his team.

Epiphone's 150th Anniversary Sheraton

By Doc Richards from Boulder, CO on August 23, 2023 Music Background: Professional player and instructor

The description of this guitar on the website is dead on. I received my Sheraton yesterday and was pleasantly surprised to find the 'red' finish was actually more of a transparent light wine color. The included case was gray with the 150th anniversary seal silk screened on the face. It was plush lined and quite sturdy. The guitar itself was set-up and ready to play. I tested it on my VOX VT-100 amp and played through all the settings neck and bridge and up and down the neck. The voicings were perfect. The balance of the tone was excellent, and I played several tunes to put it through it's paces, including a couple Beatles tunes and was pleased with the sound and feel. I ordered the lightest weight one that was listen, and it's still pretty chunky, but the resonance of the instrument makes the weight worth it. This is my third Sheraton. I had a Korean made Sheraton II Epi in 1992, and bought a Chinese made model around 2013. This one has the feel and sound of the original 60s model made famous by John Lee Hooker. The mini-humbuckers give it an era correct sound and vibe. If you can't cough up $9,000 for an original, this certainly will fill the bill in your arsenal nicely. My only criticism is, though this is not a limited-edition model, it is an anniversary edition and should have included a certificate of authenticity, even if just on a slip of paper to keep in the case, but they didn't. It wouldn't keep me from buying the instrument, but with special models, even those made in China having that might be important down the road.
