Ampeg Scrambler Bass Overdrive Pedal Reviews
Add the iconic growl and grind of a driven Ampeg bass amplifier to your pedalboard, with the Ampeg Scrambler Bass Overdrive pedal. The sound ranges from extremely subtle harmonic enhancement to screaming overdrive. Dial in some treble to help your tone cut through, then adjust the Blend control for the perfect balance of your dry fundamental tone and the overdrive effect. Beyond using it as a special effect, bass players at Sweetwater know that subtle overdrive is a great way to bring bass forward in a mix. Give your bass the tone and edge it needs, with the Ampeg Scrambler Bass Overdrive pedal.

Classic Ampeg Drive for Bass & Guitar
The Scrambler is one of the most amp-like Bass ODs I've used. Probably too much for some as it relies on your bass and pickups, unlike other drives which make every bass sound the same. Combining the drive with the treble knob takes you from Rudy (9 o'clock) to Cliff (High Noon) to full on Lemmy (3 o'clock), and the blend knob gives you as much or as little you want. Inside the pedal is another very helpful feature; a 15dB pad jumper preventing undesirable clipping from occurring.
But another great, unintended use is a low gain drive for electric guitar. With low output or single coil pickups you will find a familiar tonal territory which many a klone try to centaur in on.
In short for the low price you get a pedal with a lot of use.
Great for Guitar Too
Purchased it to use with a new Fender J-Bass. Just for kicks tried it with my Strat and , WOW, great guitar pedal. No unwanted sounds either with 9V battery or A/C Adapter. It is sensitive but has a wide range of tones/settings. We play Clubs, and Casinos in the South; older R & B, Booker T, Bill Black, Willie Mitchel, Ace Cannon, Pre-Beatles Rock 'n' Roll, Twangy Country and Classic Rock
Amazing!
I love this pedal! Gives you that svt overdriven sound just around the edges or in your face. This pedal has a wide range of sounds, from clean boost to wide open overdrive....Combined with other effects like chorus and octave this accentuates the harmonics and overtones of each note. I recommend this pedal with complete confidence.
Ampeg Scrambler
I received Scrambler with in 1 day Sweetwater and my sales engineer Paul Eckert were great. The Scrambler works just like the Ampeg at Sweetwater video shows. The control knobs are sensitive does not take much movement for change in sound. It sounds great threw my PF 500 FX loop. Thank You
simply amazing!!
Was in the market for a overdrive bass pedal, tried this out..like i said..amazing!
This thing needs juice just like an SVT
With my Tony Franklin Fender (fantastic bass), it's a very stiff, transparent, clean boost. With my Spector NS5 XL, EMG Bucker, 18v Haz, it can get very nasty. It needs juice to OD. Great OD for hot basses.
Nice Drive
I've been through quite a few overdrive pedals. I'm really liking what this pedal gives. Just a touch to cut through all the way to Dusty in ZZ Top drive if you like. Highly recommended.
Great overdrive.
Excellent for the cost. Great sound, but, it's a bit milder with passive pickups. With active pickups, there's plenty OD. Highly recommended.
Not all that
Seems well made but a big disappointment. Not nearly as much grit as in the promo video
This thing is a waste of money
My wife ordered this from Sweetwater as a Christmas present because I wanted one for my bass. This was a big mistake as the thing barely does anything to the signal. I had to turn the tone, drive and blend pots to nearly 100% to hear a slight change in the signal. Ampeg made a big blunder on this pedal.
