I love 'this thing'

By Wesley S. from LAKE ELMO, MN
Music Background: alto sax, tenor sax, piano

I read a lot of reviews on a lot of sites before I bought 'this thing' for my tenor sax. What struck me was how many times purchasers referred to this sax holder as 'this thing' - and I can't agree more; it looks a little odd. The first time I saw one was outside a favorite lunch spot where a street tenor player was playing for tips and he had one. We talked and convinced me I should try one. It is as great as all the reviews make it out to be.
I'm 5'9" and (unfortunately) 205 lbs. and this thing in medium fit me well right out of the box. There is an XL version if you happen to be well over 6 feet or exceptionallly stout.
The box says developed in Switzerland, manufactured in the European Union and patented worldwide - although I see a lot of similar looking knock-offs out there. I would recommend sticking with the real thing - the JazzLab version.

Wish this was on the market long ago.

By Sweetwater Customer from NY

I recently purchased the Saxholder for gigs that require me to stand for long periods of time. It really alleviate the pressure on your neck. I also like the "lock" on the hook string which keeps the horn exactly in place. The only reason I haven't given it five stars yet as I have not had the opportunity to try the holder in a pit orchestra situation.I am curious how it will work when having to switch horns in the middle of tunes.

This was a Christmas gift for my granddaughter. She has decided to learn how to play the sax and we all bought her accessories. She was very pleased with this... it's exactly what she needed! Thank you for good products and great customer service.

Sturdy and handles variety

By Blaine C. from PLANO, TX

I recently was using a lesser (i.e. non-Jazzlab) version of this shoulder strap. While it worked fine enough for my Alto sax, I started playing a Bari and moved my bari onto that. After a few hours, the pin that held the arm just popped right out under the weight - fortunately I was playing a D so my hands were able to grab my instrument so no damage happened. Enter Jazzlab - I really like the style and it works well for distributing weight. This shoulder strap is very sturdy and well made - the slipping pin I experienced on the non-Jazzlab strap could not happen with this Jazzlab design. I've been playing my bari quite a bit and have experienced NO problems with it. The only 1/2 star take-off I have is really about comfort - the bari is heavy. For my alto, this is wonderful and 0 issues - 5 stars! For my bari the 3 pressure points (each shoulder plus diaphragm) can get noticeable after ~3 hours of constant play. I've yet to try another strap but I'm not in a rush as this solution does work very well for me. I did get the XL version - I'm 6'1".

jazzlab sax h.older

By Storm B. from Denver
Music Background: retired musician

I like this light weight sax holder. the weight is no longer on my neck and that's a great comfort. It stays in place and distributes the weight in such a way that the sax is weightless.
Great deal!

No brainer, Love it!

By Nelson J. from Los Angeles, CA
Music Background: Vocalist, Sax Player, Guitarist, Audio Engineer, 20+ years making music

As a dedicated saxophonist who frequently rehearses for several hours at a stretch, I've long struggled with the discomfort and strain that conventional neck straps impose. Over the years I tested four or five different designs—leather, neoprene, padded—but none delivered the relief I needed.

When I finally fitted the Jazzlab SaxHolder Pro (Medium), the transformation was immediate: the familiar ache around my neck simply vanished. It was, quite frankly, a tear‑in‑my‑eye moment. The harness redistributes the instrument's weight to my shoulders and torso, allowing my neck muscles to relax completely. Whether I'm running through technical exercises at home or preparing for a live performance, I can now focus entirely on my tone, articulation, and musical expression—without distraction.

My professional take: If you're serious about extending your practice sessions—or simply want to play without pain—this is one of the smartest investments you can make. It's not just a comfort accessory; it's a performance tool that preserves your posture and longevity as a player.

Jazz Lab saxholder medium

By David B. from Redding, CA
Music Background: beginner tenor/bari saxophone

I love this thing!! I ordered this and was a little worried about the size (medium). I am 5'11" and fit at 195lbs. I have a fairly broad neck and shoulders and wear XL T shirts. This has plenty of adjustment and fits just fine. I managed to hit an Oak tree this summer on my Mountain bike and broke my neck. It hasn't bothered me until I picked my tenor back up. The old neckstrap was very uncomfortable - shooting nerve pain from my neck down my left arm. The Jazzlab sax holder is very nice, the saxophone almost feels like it's floating in air with no neck pressure at all. I can't wait to get my Bari back from the shop! I was kinda dreading the thought of the Bari's weight but I'm not worried about it with this new strap. I would give this 6 stars if I could!! Hope this helps someone. Cheers!

Solved neck pain issues.

By Rick W. from NEWBURGH, IN
Music Background: Advanced Amatuer

After many years of playing the clarinet and alto sax, I decided to add a tenor sax and quickly began having neck pain. The Jazzlab Saxholder Pro solved the issue 100%. Highly recomended.

Awesome saxholder

By Sweetwater Customer from CO

This strange looking mechanism is really a game changer. It distributes virtually all of the weight that would hanging from your neck strap to more central points. For standing gigs or marching band this is a must and it's still a vast improvement when sitting.

Love this!

By Sweetwater Customer

This thing is awesome! I suffered from a really bad muscle spasm and pinched nerve in my neck and arm a few months ago and was looking for something that would take the pressure off my neck/arm when I played. I have a Neotech harness that I use for bari, but I couldn't get it to adjust properly to use with my alto. This works perfectly for my alto. The sax feels light as a feather and I can adjust it to the perfect playing position. Plus, there is no pressure on my neck at all. Would highly recommend—definitely worth the price.

Just what I needed!

By Dennis L. from Tennessee
Music Background: Professional singer, songwriter & musician

After an hour of playing my tenor sax I had to stop due to neck and shoulder tightness. Now it feels like the sax is floating in front of me, and I can focus on my playing. I love this thing!

Game changer

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Bass. Guitar. Slide. Some piano. 15 yrs. A couple different bands.

I never write reviews but this thing deserves a nod. Went from significant neck pain from modest practice hours to being able to play as much as I want. I really love this thing. It should have a nickname, like the SaxMo or something.

Kid tested and approved

By Neal from The desert southwest
Music Background: A knowledgable listener and mediocre musician

My daughter plays the alto sax in the high school marching band and the tenor sax in their jazz band. This brace works for both. Although the knowledgeable staff at Sweetwater suggested an alternate model, this is the one she wanted and loves it. (Great return policy.)

I was concerned about the pads that rest on the stomach, but she says the pressure there is balanced nicely with the over the shoulder portion of the harness. According to her, the harness encourages good posture, and good technique follows. (The mild contact pressure on the stomach helps remind her of proper breathing techniques.)

May need adjustment to fit well

By Sweetwater Customer

This product does a good job of distributing the load onto your back and shoulders, but you may need to adjust it to fit your body shape. For me in its default shape, it's not terribly comfortable to put on and take off, especially when wearing my glasses. And the oval pads are a stiffer material than expected, and can dig into the side of your neck. The arms are adjustable, but very stiff and will require some muscle to bend to your liking. This review makes it sound worse than it is, but it's really not bad, and only knocking a star due to the stiffer oval pads material.

An absolute game changer!

By Heath A. from Austin, TX

This thing is more amazing that I had ever expected. So much more comfortable than even the best neck strap. The way it distributes the weight is like magic. Well-designed, thought out, sturdy, and I don't feel fatigued at all, even after long playing sessions. Highly recommended!
