Great platform

By Lawrence B. from Ridgefield, WA
Music Background: song writer and guitar nerd

I got the SYN1 and the new Z Wreck module and have the Soldano II module ordered. I could not afford either of those real amps... but these modules I can, and they sound fantastic, and the SYN1 Dock has great connectivity options and a nice effects loop. I'd recommend this platform to anyone serious about their sound and the feeling of real tube's under the hood.

Very good entry level to the world of preamp and power amp pairing.

By John from NAPERVILLE, IL
Music Background: Unskilled hobbiest trending in the right direction

Started playing last year with an off-brand strat and an AC15C1.

The only "negative" I see with the SYN1 is, while it's portable in the sense that it'll fit in an airline carry-on, it's much heavier than I expected. I didn't visualize the weight and dimensions well.

Not only would it be unwieldy if you wanted to mount it to a pedalboard ... with its weight and height (give the SYN1 at least 2U of space if it's going to sit on a rack shelf), I probably should have spent the extra $200 on the SYN2 and looked into a quality 4U travel rack/case if travel with the equipment were a priority.

With the SYN1, a preamp module, an XLR cable, and a couple TS cables I can ...

1) Toggle the FX volume to high and patch the FX Send to the AC15 Normal channel with the channel volume low.
This feeds the Soldano SLO module into my AC15.
2) Patch the bypass out to the AC15 Top Boost channel with the channel volume to taste.

AC15 master volume can be set to taste when I want to use the 1x12 combo cabinet.

3) Toggle the XLR volume to high and patch the XLR out to my Focusrite Scarlett set to microphone input and the mic pre volume low.

SYN1 cabsim can be toggled on or off depending on if I'm using the Scarlett for direct monitoring and headphone use for practice or if I'm using something like Neural Amp Modeler on the PC with a power amp .nam and cabinet IR.

The SYN1 sits on the corner of my home office desk with all 3 connections described above in place and pedalboard and guitar into the input jack.

Should have gotten this when it first came out

By James from Indiana
Music Background: Metal, folk, punk, hardcore

I love the sound of boutique high gain amps. My wallet does not.
When these came out I was kind of skeptical, seeing how the Randall module preamps didn't stick around for very long, but as time went on and more reviews came out I decided to give it a try.
I got the Bogner uberschall and ENGL Savage modules, and holy ****.
This stuff is incredible. I haven't even 4 cabled into my amp yet, I merely ran the XLR out to my board. From opening up to plugging in to getting the perfect tone took a total of 10 minutes. It's an incredible system and the modules are so awesome. The possibilities are truly endless with this system. I've only had it for 1 days and it will forever be in my rig.

Great preamp

By David P. from Chicago, IL

This is a great unit to add an additional channel or 2 to your existing amp.

100% worth it

By Russ

This amp is amazing. Setting it up with the 4-cable method through my Orange amp adds 2 additional channels that can be swapped out. You get real tube sound and response with this unlike digital modeling amps. The Synergy modules have worked with great brands to create the same tone for a fraction of the cost. My only complaint I have with this is that I didn't buy it sooner.

SYN-1 - Friedman BE and the Vai Module

By XristogG from Florida

What can I say that hasn't already been said. This thing is amazing. I have it hooked up as a recording rig right now, but am using it at my first practice with the band on Saturday. Cant wait to hear how it interfaces with my setup with the boys. I will say the quality of sound is so good, that it made me dump my crappy effects multi pedal and break out my tried and true stomp boxes and rewire my effects rig. I could hear every difference every pedal in the chain made. Both modules are amazing and server their own purpose. I can't wait to try a few more.

Absolutely Amazing

By justin from Graham

I never write reviews but I feel like this thing warrants my time. The SYN1 paired with the uberschall module is simply outstanding and I feel it probably the best low level music investment I have made to date! I'm running it into my 101b effects loop and sounds fantastic. No regrets here other than I should have bought it sooner. I think this thing has ended

Synergy SYN1 single module dock

By Paul from N of Dallas
Music Background: heavy fusion

Impressive design and build, weighs over 11lbs, heavy, nice construction, once hooked up the Synergy modules have literally reinvented the "wheel". This line of amplification is genius, best sounding, well made, expansive, best rig ever! I got two SYN1's waiting on dual dock shipment. Glad I did, I am not hauling my rig around these days and my two SYN's Velcro on my rack just no problem using them. I have one slaved to the other which is pretty confusing with the utter lack of detailed information Synergy seems to love. I figured it out with a little experimenting. One unit keeps the other one from coming on as to not have two massive amp tones coming down to the power amp line. You footswitch one on and bypass the other switch your channels or switch modules as you like. Works fantastic, utterly dead quiet. You can get a slight hiss from intense gain if you really crank something but I have no issue as I seldom run a gain past 1:00, don't need to. Modules are all amazing guys, and they all do sound different. I got the Fryette Pitbull and Bogner Ecstasy and I would be hard pressed to say which I like more. Just incredible. Accolades to SYNERGY! Just a couple requests, out side of more modules and gear; please update manuals with much more detail and insight into use and seriously chaps how about some stickers with the gear, hats and T-shirts, good for you, good for us. Big fan of my new Synergy gear!!!

Synergy SYN1 Tabletop Preamp

By Sweetwater Customer

very easy to hook up to power amp .plug in module and rock out . Bought the Engl Savage and it sounds great running through a Marshall 9000 power amp. I also like the direct out to my interface . Can't wait to try out the different modules

Very Happy

By Steve from Ohio ... Land of Small Dreamers
Music Background: Way too old. Still cranking.

If you want my full enthusiasm, check out my review on the DS module.

In short ... wanted to upgrade from my direct to board digital model world. I enjoyed the ease of that sphere, but ... I missed a clean tube sound! I have only recently discovered this system. It works so very, very well as a replacement for my current digital setup. I have nothing but good things to report. I am sold on this concept ... and, of course The Friedman DS is awesome. Clean to Cream.

It feels quality, it sounds quality and it is a chameleon.

Totally worth it!

By DarinBoyd from Pensacola, FL
Music Background: professional

I really like this system. It is yet another gateway drug for the tone addict. I've owned other modular rigs in the past and this setup seems more mature. This is a nice addition to my collection of amps and my Kemper.

I purchased the TDLX, Bman, Dirty Shirley, Metropolous Plexi and the Morgan modules. I like them all, but my favorites so far are the Morgan and Dirty Shirley.

The sag control is very useful and the effects loop is very high quality.

Thus far, I have only used it plugged directly into a tube power amp and a 4x12 cabinet. I look forward to trying different cabinet and module combinations.

The REAL deal

By Ken from Bend, OR

So I received the Syn1 on Thursday, so I"ve had a few hours to work with integrating into my Ax8. This post may be a bit premature from the standpoint of setup, in that I haven"t tried a true 4CM (I"m shy one cable-donated a lot of gear when I went Kemper then Ax8). So, I have been using the Ax8 in the Syn1 loop therefore using the cab ir"s and delays/verbs from the Ax8.

I have been playing for almost 30 years, primarily for large church and home use (I have kids so, mostly headphones). I was early on the Line6 stuff which was a constant struggle, then Kemper which was mind-blowing, then recently Ax8. I have also owned numerous tube amps with Two-Notes Torpedo. While it could be argued this is most definitely my "honeymoon phase" with the Syn1, this is the best headphone/direct setup I have ever used! I got the Friedman Dirty Shirley and Morgan AC modules. I have owned an actual DS amp, and it was my go-to profile on my Kemper, as well as the Ax8. The Ax8 DS sim is excellent, but the Syn1 reminds me exactly of the sound, and more importantly the FEEL of my DS/Torpedo setup. I would have to say IMHO/YMMV that the Ax8 is 85%, Kemper was 90%, Syn1 is 95% realistic. The only difference the Syn1 has from the real amp was the volume roll-off wasn"t quite there (but very good), and there seems to be a bit of low end missing. Obviously this can be added through eq, cab tweaking etc, but I just wanted to hear the module as it was, not overly manipulated.

FOR ME, the Syn1 is a definite keeper. I could happily use the AX8 sim"s but the Syn1 is just outstanding with virtually no tweaking (with the slight eq exception already mentioned). I would HIGHLY recommend the Synergy amps modules. They are not cheap, but the the Ax8/Syn1 is still cheaper than my Kemper+Remote, and FAR less than my Friedman/Two Notes setup with equal tones to the latter.

Honestly, the Syn1 just sounds more 3 dimensional is about the only way I can describe it. Try for yourself! Cheers!

Great!

By Ed T. from Boston
Music Background: 20+ years playing and recording

The first one delivered had a washer and gasket fall out. Sweetwater is awesome and already has a replacement on the way. The syn-1 I have still functions. All I can say about the tones is wow. I"m using it with a Torpedo Live and enjoying the sounds more than models of the amps with Kemper and Axe FX2. I bought the plexi and bman and will buy more.
