Behringer Studio 50USB 5 inch Powered Studio Monitors with USB Reviews

150W Powered 2-way Studio Monitors with 5" Woofer, 1" Tweeter, XLR, TRS, and USB Connections (pair)

Sweetwater knows your studio monitors are the windows into your music. The clearer the "glass," the more you hear. For maximum clarity, Behringer's Studio 50USB Monitor Speakers are bi-amped with 150 watts, with the long-throw, Kevlar-cone 5" woofer and a 1" silk dome tweeter each driven by its own amplifier. A pair of 50USB monitors gives you a broad sweet spot and room-filling sound, thanks to Behringer's advanced waveguide technology. These monitors feature XLR and TRS inputs, plus a USB input that lets you directly connect with digital audio sources. And they're magnetically shielded for placement near CRT monitors. Equip your studio with value-packed Behringer Studio 50USB Monitor Speakers, and hear what you've been missing.

Impressive

By Joe Anderson from Many, Louisiana on February 22, 2023

These I purchased from Sweetwater months ago. The sound quality shocked me I wasn't expecting for the price I paid for. It's a very great pair of studio monitors which you can plug direct into your pc without the microphone cables. Excellent!

They work.

By Rusty James on December 21, 2022

I got these on sale for 69 dollars. For that price, they are excellent. They seem a little bass heavy, but that's better than no bass. I just EQ the low end. They sound like a nice boom box. I use them for my guitar and listening to music. I would not use them for mixing/mastering music.

It is worth it

By Yehanan from New Port Richey, Fl on December 19, 2022 Music Background: Composer, Producer

I purchased these and I must say it is worth it. 150 watts is a lot for the bucks. For what I use it for is enough for me. You don't have to crank it so loud at all,(even though you could) but I just loud enough for you to be able to do what you need. And that is monitoring.
Overall it is worth the Price.

Awesome speakers when coupled with a ROLLS rca to xlr converter

By Mike from South Jersey on October 21, 2022

I setup these speakers using my PC sound card output, which I sent to a ROLLS rca in(unbalanced signal) to XLR out (balanced signal). I could not believe the sound these speakers put out when I set them up this way. Far better than I ever expected. Bought them on sale and now they are back to full price. If you see them go on sale again, I recommend buying them and using a ROLLS converter for the xlr input - if you are feeding them from your pc sound card. No disappointments here. Despite all the equipment I have, these speakers are not overwhelmed by my other speakers, amplifiers, and subwoofers.

AMAZING Difference!

Replaced my old mackie CR3 and definitely i can tell a big difference. Tested some shotgun mic + zoom H6 for more accurate comparison check it out.

Best sound system purchase I've made

By J. Sterling from Oak Point, TX on October 5, 2022 Music Background: I don't know what I'm doing

I'm a complete newbie to all of this, but I know Behringer is a fairly reputable brand (based on their RD-8, RD-9, TD-3-MO, etc), plus these were on sale, so I figured why not and get them, I needed to replace my old Altec Lansing VS4121 speakers anyways.

I thought people were exaggerating when they said studio monitors were a whole new experience. Now I haven't dabbled too much in music production, DAWs are a bit too complicated for my taste, especially being thrown into FLS 20 without any help or tutorials, but listening to some .mp3 files on my computer I know are different bitrate qualities, and now hearing the differences themselves, and hearing stuff I've never heard before, just wow.

I would absolutely recommend these.

Unbelievable!

I had a pair of Rockit5 speakers(which I also purchased from Sweetwater) for around 5 years. they gave me excellent service.

But for some unknown reason, they did not work with my laptop.

So I went back and found these remarkable Behringer Studio 50USB powered Monitors, with the USB connection.

First, they were exceptionally easy to install and setup with my laptop. And the sound is amazing!

They are a great buy and will be over and above your expectations. JL

NOT EXPECTING THAT

By Dan Keeton from Branson, Mo on April 1, 2021

I ordered a pair of these Behringer 50Usb after finding a used set of Mackie HR824s. I got the Mackies set up and heard things I've never heard in my music, little nuances that studio monitors should expose. Then I got these Behringer monitors and set them up and thought the the Mackies were still on instead of the Behringers. I am beginning to hear differences in the two, but I am greatly impressed with these affordable Behringer monitors. It's amazing to me how BIG These sound. If your trying to make a frugal decision between 5" monitors, there is no other choice... Behringer and Sweetwater!

By Joseph B from Austin, TX on February 7, 2021

Bought these on a whim and just plugged them in today. These monitors sound really clean, great bass response, no muddiness in the mids, well defined highs. I'm really impressed considering how low the price is.

Application: intermediate level home studio recording, mostly electronic based music

Awesome power and clarity

By Wayne Brandt from Jacksonville fl on September 21, 2020 Music Background: love music!

I bought the behringer studio monitors for the studio but because they would be easy to take out to do some side dj jobs if I wanted. They have 150 watts of power and have great clarity. And a great price for a pair of speakers! Mike calls me every time I make a purchase and if I have any questions at all I can always reach him for advice!

By Thomas Kotkowski from Taunton Ma on March 22, 2020

I bought these for playback in my home studio. I have been using headphones for playback, recording, and mixing. The sound is amazing. The affordable price is attractive, but the bang for the buck is unbelievable. They have an amazing sound, plenty of power for my small studio, and fit my situation perfectly.

Just what I needed!!

By Neal Williams from Oil City, PA on February 10, 2018 Music Background: Old man - you kids get off my lawn... go play your guitars!

I have had a cluttered studio for years. I've been using a nice set of mini Bose and always had plenty of power, but had more wires run than I could imagine. It was always a pain cleaning the studio (as I am sure all you folks do). I decided first off to clear back some of that mess, so I started researching 5" powered speakers. I generally spend a great deal of time at YouTube watching and comparing before I buy any gear. Then I talk to my Sweetwater tech Andy Miller. I did my research, and it came down to these or the KRK Rokit or JBL speakers. For half the money of the other speakers, I really couldn't tell enough difference to warrant spending more. I am extremely happy with these. They seem very accurate and have PLENTY of volume for mixing or just listening to music in my space. I have approx. 15 X 20 and these are perfect for my needs. The ONLY 2 problems I have (and simple things) are that the off on switch is on the back of one of the speakers, and that there is no volume control. I have to adjust at my PC programs to keep up with the volume. So, as always, I appreciate Andy Miller and all the great service from Sweetwater! These do the job for a very fair price.

Great buy

Behringer Studio 50USB Monitors

By John Fudrow from Reamstown PA on January 12, 2018 Music Background: Guitar and bass player since 1966

Have been using these monitors for the past week and they are working great! In the past I have been using a set of head phones to monitor my recordings and finally made the move to buy a set of monitors. I am using them with a Yamaha AW16G, ok old tech but that's what I have and it works great for my personal recording. The Behringer 50USB monitors give a more realistic sound than the head phones so I now have a better understanding of how the recording will sound before I download to the CD. Great Job Behringers!

Hard To Criticize Studio 50USB's

By Rodney Paul from Austin Texas USA on June 29, 2017

These are not Focal quality, let's get that out of the way; a buyer shouldn't expect that at this price-point. What you WILL get for a measly 150 spending gitas cannot be duplicated by any other powered monitor in this price range. We have used these as a secondary set of mix monitors in conjunction with a pair of 5" Focal's and they more than carry the day. We've used these daily for over 14 months and have had zero problems. If they fail,we will purchase another set, they are that good. Yes, you can hear the difference between these and the Focal's, and that's exactly what we bought them for...to A/B, compare our mixes before we head outside for the car speaker set-up. These are one helluva bargain, and every time we listen to them we wonder how Behringer got these so close to perfect. I mean...Behringer?! Who knew! The frequency response is THERE, not absent or vague. High's, Mid's, Low's...all there. They also get LOUD!... the low end is solid(max 'em out and they will flutter,of course), mid-range doesn't wimp out, and the highs ring out true, not piercing or sharp. Maybe we just got the opposite of a pair of lemons, cuz these baby's are astounding for the money. Very useful tools. Plus, they sound good playing synths through them, very smooth and analog-ish. If you need a second set of mix-down monitors or on a budget, be smart and buy a pair. Our only gripe is the native, short cable that connects the two, but luckily they are exactly correct for the space we use them in. Cheers to Sweetwater

Wow!

These speakers are amazing i don't need the volume bar all the up to hear everything. My iMac volume bar is at one bar and that is even loud it's worth the money if you are looking for studio speakers.

Unbelievable!

By Stanman from Indiana on March 21, 2017 Music Background: Guitarist-Uneasy Peace

I was truly impressed with the power, clarity and flat response of these monitors. I have tested them using multiple sources in my daw such as synths, drums and vocals. I am primarily a guitarist and I've used these with a Zoom G5 and a POD HD 500X with great results. These really floored me when I tested them listening to some concerts. All of the nuances and punch of the bands were faithfully translated. I have used these for extended periods at high volume levels without ear fatigue. They are really powerful for their size. You can crank them and hear them throughout your entire living space.

These rock

By George Nichols from Walland, TN on February 9, 2017

Best choice i could have made without busting the bank. They F-N jam !!!!!!!! Bass is perfect and the mids and highs are spot on. Sounds as good if not better as any set of speakers i have ever owned. You will not be sorry for buying these for yourself. And many thanks to Paul E and Sweetwater for all the help!!!!

Very, very happy with these

By Jim Edgar from San Rafael, CA on December 19, 2016 Music Background: Voiceover / VO Production

Yes, you can spend a ton on the "perfect" monitors for your personal studio. But, these are really tough to beat - especially at this end of the price range. I've listened to a bunch of the other 4-5" monitors in various setups and really like the clarity and flat response of these. Good bass/low end response - especially for a smaller speaker - but not overpowering. Plenty...no seriously..._PLENTY_ of output.
There's a single cable connecting the Left to the Right speaker, and everything gets plugged into the Right (both inputs, as well as the Aux input for USB, and the power cord. So, I ended up having to flip the placement in my space (and then just swapped Right for Left coming out of my A/D) in order to reach my power conditioner.

Great!

Being on a tight budget, I shopped around extensively for studio monitors that were inexpensive but also had a quality sound. I got both covered with these. I absolutely love them! The sound is incredible. I recommend these to anyone. Sweetwater was amazing as well and answered all my questions before purchasing. Thank you!

Great Pair !

By J.Buddy Vantreese from Alabama on June 11, 2016 Music Background: working vocalist and keyboard player for 50 years

This is a great set up...all the power you could ever need and a rich quality sound....by far one of the best pairs of speakers I've heard. A great price for such a quality sound. My only negative to them is the power button is in the back of the speaker. If you have them in a bookcase..as I do it's a pain to turn them on and off...but certainly worth it ! On top of the Behringer Brand making big strides in the industry is Sweetwater's unbelievable Customer Service...the best in the business !....and the candy is good too !

QUALITY BEYOND THE PRICE

By David R. Brown from El Paso, Texas on December 28, 2015 Music Background: Amateur(ish) Dabbler in Piano, Guitars (pl), Ukulele, and Lap Dulcimer

For professional recording engineers and for extremely wealthy amateurs, there are the high-end studio monitors, such as Event, Focal, and Adam Labs. For the rest of us, such lower-cost brands as Behringer may suit our needs just fine. This pair of powered speakers is quite remarkable, producing clear, accurate sounds at a level not always available at this price point. The "Studio 50USB's" reproduce the extreme highs and lows of music strongly and faithfully, a welcome surprise among small speakers. However, the polar opposites of high treble and low bass are intended primarily to support the melodic instruments, those which reside mostly in the midrange. Thankfully, the 5 represent this area well, much like JBL's, assuring that both instrumentals and vocals are clean and prominent. In brief, the "Behringer 50USB's" are outstanding for a variety of purposes, including near-field recording monitoring, musical instrument amplification, and pleasure listening. Please note that they are boxed and sold by the pair, not individually. I love these!

Never buying cheap computer speakers EVER again

By Tim from Naperville, IL on September 23, 2015 Music Background: Audio Dabbler

After going through a few crap computer speakers, I decided to up my speaker game. My sales engineer, Rob Kramer, did a great job putting together a list of monitors in different price ranges for me to choose from based on how i'm using them. I do a lot of video editing/watching movies/gaming, so I needed something versatile that would sound great. I chose these 50USB's paired with a Lexicon Alpha and couldn't be more pleased. These sound great. The highs are nice and clear, mids are punchy, and has a very decent lower frequency range. Never ever buying crappy computer speakers EVER again.

Better than expected

By Lasher from southern Missouri on August 5, 2015 Music Background: N00b

I thought these would be little tiny speakers in tiny boxes with no weight and a tinny sound. Boy, I was very wrong.
Im still breaking them in so far Ive used them with my computer system. Played some 1080p movies and it was pretty good. Then I hooked them up to my R3 and then to my midi system. Yes, this is what these speakers are made for. The synths I used sounded absolutely amazing.
So, will probably put my old speakers (pair of JBL's) back on the computer and use these for my synths.

There is only one thing I do not like. No front on/off switch. bit of a pain to get behind the speaker to turn it off. That is so minor its hardly worth stating.

I Love These

By Marty Dunayer from New York, NY on July 23, 2015 Music Background: Professional composer, musician, producer

I ordered these figuring how bad can they be. They have a 5" woofer and 150 watts, and at $129, much more than what you get from the $99 speakers. Well I just got mine today and I have to say, I am blown away by these. Plenty of bottom end, highs are clear and defined and power for days, all the volume you will ever need in a near field monitor. If there is any con in these, and I don't consider it one, the speakers connect to each other with a proprietary cable so one speaker is the main and L & R connect to the main. The JBL's for example are designed so you can buy must one monitor where with these you need to buy the pair. BUT, you do get the pair for the same price as one JBL. and I would definitely compare these favorably to the JBL's. For the price, these are a no brainer. I bought mine for my computer and they sound awesome! Hooked them up via USB with the ITunes equalizer I was able to fine tune mine to exactly how I wanted them to sound! Brilliant~

Review update - Good speaker

By Sweetwater Customer on December 19, 2022

UPDATE from the review I gave on October 19, 2022 (Title: 'Behringer Studio 50usb review'

I finally bought a Behringer UMC-204HD audio interface and connected it to these speakers using TRS cables. These speaker give much better sound when using audio interface. I am very impressed with the quality of the sound.

TIP - Use TRS cables instead of TR cables. It makes a huge difference.

BTW. I like Behringer, it gives you good products with a very competitive price. I am also very impressed by the quality of the UMC-204HD audio interface.

Thank Sweetwater.com for their great service too.

Best Budget 5" Monitor

By Ken O from Texas on January 21, 2017

We have used these daily for over 12 months, have had no problems. Took a couple weeks for them to get warmed up, have been rockin' every day since. We use these when tracking and during basic mix-down,then switch to a set of 8" Presonus Eris and Avantone cans for final mixing. These Behringers are steady enough in their response to get a pro 80% there; for a home studio they are worthy tools, especially if you use alongside pro grade cans. Well worth the $. Grab a pair to use while saving up for some real monitors, or even as a set of computer/gaming monitors. Only con is the length of cable that connects the two together, small thing. NICE to have so many options...XLR balanced, 1/4" jack plug or USB. Also nice, the db volume control and a high fequency/cut switch that really helps get tuned into a room. We had to use these in proximity to a wall during a mobile recording project and the cut switch eliminated a false bass response that was eating away at our brains. A useful feature to have if your monitors are good enough to even hear the difference in that situation.Best bang for the $$$

Loud and Precise with REAPER on MacOS

By Bill Nickless from Tri Cities, WA on July 7, 2016 Music Background: Amateur musician, professional computer geek

Just what the doctor ordered for mixing with REAPER on MacOS in a home studio. Once I made my tracks sound good on these speakers, they also sound good in my car and other sound systems at home and elsewhere.

They're so precise and transparent that using them to watch variety shows like Top Gear exposes the subtle differences and audio effect variances between the slickly produced videotape segments and the semi-live studio interstitial segments.

I also heard things in the DVD sound track of Ender's Game that I only ever heard before in theatres. (Not sure what they were; still training my ears to hear and work on those things.)

Only complaint is that they are LOUD when plugged into a Mac via USB. You'll end up setting the Mac volume down less than 10% to keep the volume down in the 70-80 dBA peak range. I haven't tested how loud they can get in my little home studio, but there is plenty of headroom to compensate for any imaginable room sound absorption treatment! A level setting switch to pad the output by (say) -10, -20 or even -30 dB would be quite useful in small home studios like mine.

Great Speakers

These are awesome speakers, I think the best for $150. I have tried others (M-Audio and Hercules) in that price range which do not come close to these. Clear, crisp, nice range, and loud! The six foot cable connecting the speakers is a custom job but fortunately for me plenty long.

more than worth the price

thanks aaron , the monitors are here and all set up .. and just so you know the cord to connect the two speakers is actually closer to 7 feet long than it is to 3 .. so thats some good news .. and i'm not sure if its because they go thru the usb port or if its just the way the speakers themselves are designed but these speakers actually have a lot more snot than my m audios or my krk rokits .. and while they all have 5 inch woofers and are about the same size the behringers are definitely the runt of the litter .. so its not because they have a bit more mass , cause they don't .. and when i say they have a lot more snot i mean quite a bit more volume .. with my m audios or krk's i'd set the volume at around 50% or so give or take .. i can't do that with these behringers ..i can't even get close to that figure .. i have em set at about 5% and thats more than enough .. there's no way that anybody could say these ain't loud enough if loud is all you want .. to be honest tho i think the krk's and the m audios sound a bit smoother to my ears and their bass response is a little bit better .. in fact the m audios and krk's might actually be made that way on purpose and these behringers are closer to flat which if you're gonna mix is more what you'd want .. but i'm really no expert .. but my ears are better than most guys i know . and i'm 62 years old .. a lot of guys half my age can't hear as well .. if i had anything bad to say about these speakers it would be they sound just a wee bit more harsh when compared to the m audios or the krk's , but then these are less than half the price , pump out more than twice the volume ( if its just volume you're lookin for ?) and they hookup to my usb port ( and thats a real blessing if your little green stereo in jack is all goobered up on your computer .. i have about 10 usb's to goober up before i need to get another computer .. ) so all in all while i wouldn't rate these higher than the krk's or the m audios , i wouldn't rate them lower either .. and the price has a bit to do with that .. ehh ..a lot to do with it actually.. if anyone is in the market for a set of monitors , even if its just to listen to music on their computer i can't see how you can get a better deal than these behringer usb50's .. you won't find anything better for twice the price .. where do i go to leave a review for these bad bears .. thanks a bunch aaron ..

Perfect for solo mixing and tracking

By Colin from Michigan on January 4, 2020 Music Background: Hip-hop producer and Guitarist

I bought these about 6 months ago and I don't have any complaints with them at all. That being said, these are great for mixing and recording at low to moderate volumes, but they shouldn't be used at higher volumes. At lower volumes they give an excellent flat and accurate reading, but at higher volumes they start to clip, the lows drop out, and the mids get really muddy. I would encourage anyone who produces at home or as a hobby to buy these- there is nothing out there at this price range that will give you such a great and flat reading of your tone. If you can drop around $400, maybe buy something else, but these have served me well for the price.

Very Nice Studio Monitors

By Michael D Scherer from Whitewater, WI on September 16, 2018

I was pleasantly surprised with these, they also crank! In fact my daughter complains of how loud they are, she is two bedrooms away! I do however wish they had a front volume control. But otherwise I love them! Tried using USB, while nice, and even louder I had a hard time controlling levels! So back to analog sound sources for now! Very tight bass and mid range! Clear highs! They rock! Great computer speakers! Don't need a sub!

Excellent for bedroom studio

By Sweetwater Customer on September 12, 2018

These Speakers are perfect for my small bedroom studio!
I'm picking up a lil hum. But, I'm sure I just need to chase down a ground loop which would be my problem, not the speakers.
Perfect for starting out!!

GOOD DEAL

By WILD BILL 212 from NE USA/SE ASIA on June 5, 2018 Music Background: Life Long GIBSON Player

I bought a pair of these just to do some light recording, and they ROCK, oh yes they do! With the price of where it is for a pair of monitors to go along with my Scarlet 18i8 , I have everything I need to record multitrack, multi-instrument tracks with the ability to get an ACCURATE measure of what was recorded coming out of these BAD-BOYS....I"ve had em for a year now and they still sound as good the day I took em out of the box.....these are not high-end monitors and should not be confused about that , BUT if you have some good gear at home and want to hear an accurate measure of what you sound like recorded, these will do the job well ! I can even use it as a stereo system in my basement with my I-Pad belting out what ever I"m listening too! and they sound real good, dont miss anything and do not miss any of the tones in the mix ! I had a feeling these would work well for me, and they do !

Good Value

By Frank G from Louisville on May 11, 2018

Needed something that delivered and was budget conscious for a small demo set up. Easy, unpack, set up, and use. No problem dialing in the high frequency choice and tone of the monitors. Between the phones and the monitors, I have no issues with real world hearing of the tones I want and am getting. Great value ad I'm happy with my choice. Are these top of the heap? Maybe not. But at the price point, it's a no brainer.

Great Entry Level Studio Monitors

By Tom from Nowhere, Oklahoma on January 10, 2018 Music Background: All over the place.

Behringer is known for for having great quality at value pricing, the 50USB monitors are no different, No frills no gimmicks, just clear audio at an affordable price. I"ve owned higher end KRK and Mackie monitors over the years, but these work perfectly well for my home studio needs. A big bonus for me with my ipad based studio, was the fact that these set up quickly and hassle-free in my workflow. An elegant looking and functional entry level tool I highly recommend!

Behringer Studio Monitors 50USB

These are Great for the price. We use them in a sound booth that does not get the same sound as the main room so we mic the room and it helps a lot.

Good Monitors

By DoctorMikeJ from Fort Wayne on October 24, 2016 Music Background: Studio recording for years

I've owned these monitors for almost a year now, and I really like the quality. The "only" issue I have with them is that the audio plugs in the back produce a slight humming noise. The usb hook-up is flawless, but when hooking these monitors up to my audio interface I hear the hum. I tried different cables, but still get the hum. Not a deal breaker, but annoying that I can't double-up on the input options.

Nice home studio monitors

By Jason Dufair from West Lafayette, IN on April 13, 2016 Music Background: Amateur musician

Just picked up a pair of these for my project studio at home. For the price, these have great sound. Have them connected to my FocusRite 6i6 and they sound quite accurate. As a non-professional, I've picked up several pieces of Behringer gear for me and for my band and I end up quite pleased every time.

Decent Monitors

By Bob from Southern Illinois on January 30, 2016 Music Background: Playing guitar and vocals since 1978

Good solid sounding monitors for a great price but the connecting cable isn't long enough to get good sepparation when placing them on pedestals more than 6' apart. Would be better if they offered a longer cable or just used 1/4" jacks between left and right.

Loud N Proud

By HaveMercyMissPercy from Tejas on December 18, 2015

LOUD studio monitors with surprising clarity. Turn them up,drive the power to check out your mix's punch and low end, then back them down to hear how it all sounds at low volume...translates amazingly well. Again, these are LOUD when you need it. Only bummer is no on/off switch, so a quality plug strip dedicated to just the monitors is recommended.

Behringer Studio 50usb review

By Sweetwater Customer on October 19, 2022

I purchased this pair of speaker for 1/2 price from Sweetwater. This pair of speakers are pretty good. However, they are not perfect.
These are the limitation I found on this Behringer studio 50usb speaker.

1. USB connection is way too loud, I have to lower my PC volume to 2/100 for normal listening. It would be much better if they can add a volume control knob. I have to use a equalizer software to lower the pre-amp input signal.
2. Bass is weak, I have to activate Bass Boost in Windows 10 and use equalizer software to add more bass response to the speaker.
3. Sound becomes muddy and boxy when in high volume (This may not be a limitation consider the size limit of these speakers).
4. Cable for connecting the speakers together is too short and it will limit the speakers placement option. You won't be able to get a longer one because it is a proprietary made cable. Not sure if I can find a replacement on their website if it is broken.

In conclusion, I can live with the above limitations because I paid 1/2 price for these speakers. If for those that are looking for high-end sound and features, there are other options elsewhere. Hope my review will help your decision.

Producer/DJ looking for multi-purpose speakers

By Eric from NJ on August 26, 2021 Music Background: EDM Producer, DJ

I'm a DJ and producer who was looking for possible booth monitors on the road and for studio monitors at home. Got them and the size filled me with expectation. I had been using these REALLY crappy 3.5" speakers with a 5" sub (package, I didn't buy a separate sub). So having these big speakers to position felt great. No RCA, no problem. Grabbed some 1/4" to 1/4", went to my SSL2+ (from Sweetwater lol), and felt like I forgot something. The highs and mids are so clear. Like, so crystal clear. Mixing vocals and highs on these gives me a high lol. The bass feels like I took it with me to the store and forgot it there. I've been scratching my head the last couple of days wondering how such big speakers can put out so little bass. Honestly, my phone probably has more thump to it. THEN AGAIN, I use a dual 12" KICKER sub in my car, so I might be used at this point to really nice, present bass. But for someone who again and again has to run to a car to listen to a master and then run back to my studio area to tweak it, I'm really disappointed in the fact that I'm going to keep having to do that. Gotta look at sub options now, something I thought I'd be circumventing buying larger studio monitors. That all being said, the price is really great for the highs and mids, but if I have to spend more to get a sub, should I have just bought some Yamahas/KRKs? S/o Sweetwater as always, shipping was lighting and customer service is always awesome. They are really awesome sounding speakers, just kinda sucks that the bass isn't there, cause I'd be all over these if it were otherwise.

Decent Sound, USB on MAC is poorly implemented

By Sweetwater Customer on September 3, 2019

Decent sounding speakers, a little light in the bass dept. On a Mac system, the USB implementation is pretty awful. I didn't buy them for that, but it was super easy to start there as I had to fish new balanced 1/4 inch cords out of my audio interface. So, plugging in a single USB seemed like an easy lift. Sound was uncontrollably loud. Had to dial everything down to 1 bar on the mac sound control panel. No wiggle room at all. Then had to pile through youtube and every single use of audio in the system to minimum. Using these on a mac via USB is asking for hearing damage. Tried the trim controls on the back of the speakers as well. Nope. So, took the time do hook them up the way I intended and they are good.

Pretty good

By Jaytee from Atlanta on May 4, 2019 Music Background: Keyboard player

I never have considered Behringer but the price was too good. So these make really great PC speakers. As far as studio monitors, well you get what you pay for. These speakers lack bottom end punch. Lots of connection options so that is nice.

GOOD MONITORS

By WILD BILL from N E USA/S E ASIA on September 5, 2017 Music Background: LIFE-LONG GIBSON PLAYER

These monitors capture the elements of the sounds my instruments make well enough to not make spending twice as much on JBL's necessary. Of course, JBL's are a better monitor BUT twice the price. For what I am doing these Behringers serve a very useful purpose. To my astonishment, they do not breakup @ HIGH GAIN/DISTORTED SETTINGS.It is the lower-end lack of PUNCH in the BASS segment of the sound that comes across as being a bit on the thin-side, BUT what can I possibly expect from a 5 inch bass speaker?

For what they are these BEHRINGER monitors are worth every dollar I spent on them.

Not Bad as Reference Monitors

By JEASongs from SoCal, CA on June 3, 2017

Has a bit of noise, but not bad as reference monitors and actually good for a mix to get a different POV. Great price point!

Nice sounding speakers.

By Sweetwater Customer on November 23, 2015

I use these monitor speakers as a part of my small home studio for listening to recordings that I do with friends and for mixing home recordings. I also use them as part of my entertainment system by routing my TV through my mixer and into the speakers. They sound great for both. I would say that the main draw back to them if any is that they are tethered together by a wire with a special plug that does not allow you to separate them more than a few feet. I had other Monitors that allowed you to use standard 1/4 in or XLR cords of whatever length you choose to place the speakers wherever you wanted. For the money these do a good job of reproducing a realistic proximity of the original recording. I feel like I am back in the room where we did our original recording. And as a side they can get loud if you need them to.

Meh!

By Will from Denton, TX on September 12, 2015 Music Background: Multi-instrumentalist, producer

A pair of monitors for $130? Definitely caught my eye, and Behringer makes solid cheaper products. They sound great, the only drawback is the lowend is almost non-existent. Luckily I had a subwoofer from another set of speakers to balance it out. Great for the price! But beware the lack of bass.

Behringer Monitors

I"m very happy with the monitors. They are crisp and clear,& have great bass tone. Not the loudest in the world, but I wasn"t look for high volume when I bought them. They are well worth the price...

Loud. So. Loud.

By Aaron Hochhalter from Visalia, CA on October 19, 2016

They sound great, and to the semi-trained ear they've got pretty good frequency response, but man are they loud... Almost unusable in my office when anyone else is in the building.

Still struggling with the muddiness...

By Timothy Grant from CHAPEL HILL, NC on July 9, 2021

These speakers are LOUD! My goodness, and the volume knob on the rear only brings the volume down slightly, not all the way down. I just could not get these placed in my studio. Too muddy. My other monitors were so very different in range, and when these were initiated in the mix, the difference was too stark. I moved these in every place in the house, use it with the TV, the stereo, other computers, and got the same result. Very heavy middle, muffled sound. So now I use them as computer monitors so they are being productive, but the volume on the computer has to be set at 3-4 only!! They look to be of quality, well made. But I was personally disappointed in the overall sound, just not enough highs to play with. The Presonus, Alesis and Mackie monitors had a crispiness and bottom end, but then I switch to these and well, a lot of thick middle. I could ruin a mix trying to make it sound good in these. But this was my personal experience and others seem to be enjoying these in their studios.

notso hot

By Richard from CA on August 24, 2019 Music Background: From Family of Musicians

These speakers came with a hang tag proclaiming this was Keith Klawitter's best work. He must have sold you a bunch of mediocre garbage. They are very BOOMy. lots of bass and a hole where the high end should be. Not sure why they made a subwoofer. They should have made outboard tweeters. Don't master anything your not going to debut in a '67 VW micro-bus with the AM-FM Package.

sending these back

By Vishal P Doddanna from MD on March 23, 2021

i really wanted to like these because i'm a behringer fan for their price/performance, but when connected to my computer via USB, it is too LOUD! 7 out of 100 on the volume is really loud, which means you don't have fidelity of volume control. I purchased a Y cable, and 25-30 out of 100 starts to get loud, but there is a constant hum.

Just stopped

By Mark Smith from Berkeley, MO on August 15, 2019

Speakers just stopped working, very light loads!

Good enough, but...

By Benjamin Lebofsky on June 16, 2017 Music Background: Amateur, Hobbyist

They are very okay and did well enough for one year and about 6 months until the power unit failed. They were on a protected circuit and never abused, so user error is unlikely. Sound wise, I was never blown away, but they worked fine, got muddy at higher volumes. I am not sure if it is worth sending them back under the 2 year warranty being that I have to pay for shipping. Or, just put the money toward something higher end.

Okay for a While

By Chris from Baltimore on December 25, 2015

These were good for about 2 months until they just stopped working, as in they started turning off and on, and then wouldn't turn on at all. Definitely going with a more reputable set next time.

Low use. Dead after a year

By Sweetwater Customer on August 24, 2019

You get what you pay for. Don't waste your money on these monitors. They will give out in less then a year. Used them very little. When they sat for a few months and I needed them, they would not power on. I don't like wasting money like this. Do your research first. You will see similar complaints.

Horrible constant buzzing noise

By Sweetwater Customer on December 1, 2018

I regret buying these monitors. They produce good sound but also produces a constant buzzing noise. When no sound is playing it will drive you crazy. Sweetwater support suggested cutting off the high frequency but that did not help.

Less than a year later, fried

By David from New York on January 2, 2017

These were great speakers, sounded awesome, great volume for my small home studio.
But, less than a year later, not even when using them, something fried. Pull off the back, looks like a heat sink or something fried on the board
