Excellent sound & Quality
This Studio5 has Excellent tone across a wide range of musical styles. Build quality is classy. Looks are attention getting. I mainly play smooth jazz, funk, county, and latin funk. I play thru a Fender rumble 500 with a GK 15 ext cab and I have no issues. She so sweet I had to name her!
Beautiful
This bass is made in heaven!! love Everything about it.
Everything I need
I've had this Bass for 10 years and never had any problems, just basic stuff you need to do to keep it up. I can get whatever tone I need for any style of music. For the money I can't recommend this Bass enough . I'll never let her go.
First Schecter Bass guitar
My son bought one. Great smooth mellow sound. Beautiful satin finish.
I've owned the 6 string version for almost 10 years
As of this writing (early 2019) it doesn't look like Sweetwater currently lists the six string version of this bass anymore, so I don't know if this will be posted or not, but I can't recommend this line of basses enough. The feel, the tone, the look (even with some typical wear-and-tear from gigging) the finish (neck and body) of this bass is by far the best I've ever owned. I've played many basses since getting this one, but I've never found one that came close.
I haven't gigged professionally in a long time, but recently started getting back into playing. I say this because this Bass was left in its case since around 2012, and when I finally did pull it out of its case in 2018 to play it rather than confirm that it was unharmed by various moves to a part of the country with a radically different average humidity -- it was still in tune. So I don't see a need to change the tuners.
My only complaint regarding playability (aside from my neglect in taking care of the finish on the knobs and bridge -- which have oxidized slightly, but not NEARLY as much as it should have in almost ten years) is that it is neck heavy. So it tends to dive a bit without a counterweight or the "strap tied to the belt" trick. Again this is for the 6 string version, so I can't vouch for the four or five strings.
The six string has two active EMG pickups, each powered by their own 9v, and share the equalization set by the on-board preamp. The volume controls allow for amazing blending, but I've almost always played with both pickups dimed and minimal EQ adjustment.
Regardless of whether you play a 4, 5, or 6 string, if you're looking for an amazing instrument that you will never part with, buy this one.
I'd buy another if they released a fanned fret version of the 6 string. Otherwise, both as a former semi-professional gigging musician and now as an enthusiast. I can honestly say I will never *need* another bass, and have had no bass-guitar GAS since owning this one.
Just Awesome
This bass is top notch. I have been playing since I was 8. I have had Fenders, Warwicks, and Ibanez and the tonality is just awesome with the active pickups not to mention it arrived and it was still fully in tune and compared to other basses I have had it stays perfectly in tune (No hertz off).
The only thing that I have changed is the strings but that's a personal preference as I play flatwounds.
Definitely worth the investment and I have already recommended several friends.
By Far the Best Bass for the Money!!
I had a $1500 budget.
I played everything out there.
With it's thru-neck construction, you can make
this Bass sound like an Alembic; but you don't have to
take out a 2nd mortgage on your home to buy it.
It's a beautiful bass; but for $ ...You Can't Beat It!!
Amazing bass!
I got the 6 string version of this bass (special order) and it is awesome!!!
First of all, customer service is always on point here at Sweetwater. Tomir is always super helpful, this order was no different. He had my back every step of the way through the special order, and made it a breeze!!
So I’ve had the bass for about 10 months now, and my only complaint is that it’s heavy. Not too bad, but it does start to wear you down in those hr+ jam sessions. Obviously I knew what I was getting into though, buying a 6 string. So I won’t knock it because of that. I did try this 5 string out before I bought the 6, and the 5 is notably lighter.
Weight aside, the bass is incredible! Playability was on point right out of the box, and still is to this day! Tone is phenomenal as well! The emg pups and active eq leave you with all kinds of tonal options, and she sounds smooth all across the board! The low B is nice and tight, and doesn’t sound floppy like some other 5 strings I’ve used. And she looks gorgeous!! I seriously pick this bass up almost every day just because of how beautiful it is. These pictures, I think, are a little misleading. But she is that visually appealing that I’ll pick her up so often solely off of aesthetics.
In short, for what it cost me, I feel like I got a h*** of a deal. I’ve picked up a few custom 6 stings with much bigger price tags, this one is still my favorite!
I'm in love
The first thing I have to say is that this bass played perfectly right out of the box, I didn't need to adjust a thing (so A+ to Sweetwater). As soon as I picked it up, it took me hours to put down! The 5th string, even in heavier styles, has tons of clarity/punch and the neck through design really lets notes ring out. Not to mention that the finish is absolutely stunning!! Moving up and down the fretboard couldn't be more of a breeze. For the price, I think this is one of the best basses that you could own
BEST BASS GUITAR ALIVE!
I HAVE BEEN PLAYING THIS BASS FOR 10 YEARS AND COMPARED TO THE $4000.00 RICK AND THE FENDER P BASS THAT I HAD... WELL THERE IS NO COMPARISON! I HAVE BEEN PLAYING FOR 40 YEARS AND THIS IS THE BEST BASS I HAVE EVER HAD BOTH FOR PLAYING LIVE AND RECORDING! IT NEVER GOES OUT OF TUNE AND THE NECK HAS NEVER BUDGED IN 10 YEARS NO MATTER HOW DRY OR DAMP THE WEATHER! IF ANYTHING EVER HAPPENED TO MINE TODAY I WOULD ORDER ANOTHER ONE TOMORROW!
Excellent Bass
I have been playing for over 30 years and this is my first 5-String. the part that surpirsed me is that this is as easy to play as my Fender Jazz Bass. Even with the extra string the neck is thin and the action is great. The tone is terrific with the active pickups and the sustain is awesome.
The only one thing that threw me off a little was the length of the fretboard. This is a 24-fret neck and as a result I find myself reaching for the lower frets a little. The extra frets are completely unnecessary and mostly take-away from the playability of the instrument. If you can find one of these with a shorter neck, I advise you to buy it.
I am already getting use to it!
Becasue I am a lefty, I add to order the universal case separately. That case weight is excessive! The bass is not particularly heavy, but put it in the case and it is quite a load.
Bottom-Line: I am really glad I bought it. I love the extra low notes and I love having a close-note E on the B string.
Great Bass
I get lots of compliments on the look, and sound of this Bass. I have had mine about 8 years. For the money its right up there wuth Basses that have bigger price tags.
I had played Ibanez for years, and this neck is marginally thicker, almost not noticable. I do not care for the gold hardware. But love the finish and neck through design.
Schector 5 sudio
If your looking for the growl with great playability this is the bass for you!!
I LOVE it!
This bass replaced my Ibanez soundgear as my main bass. It has a rich sound for the style of music I play. I want to get a 4 string just like it.
Great Mid range bass
You should know what you are buying before you buy it. This bass is not top of the line but it is a great mid market bass, I play at home and at gigs, althought you will most likely have to re EQ your amp. Great purchase for the money though, sounds great once you dial it in and it looks like a work of art
Great bass for the money!
I got this bass as an upgrade from a Peavy five string, which wasn't living up to my needs. I am an older bassist with some joint issues, so I needed something that fingered more lightly. After I did a setup, and adjusted the string height, It plays like a dream! I would have given it a five star rating if it hadn't been for the battery box. It's a plate, with two screws, over two nine volt clip style connectors. There is a piece of foam that wraps around the batterys to keep them from rattling. I might have my guitar tech add a good snap in box later. All in all, you would be hard pressed to find a better sounding and playing bass for the money.
Needs better electronics
I've had this bass for 6-7 years now. Never needed to replace any part except the strings. This bass is SOLID. I like the feel, the playability and reliability. but for my taste the tone sucks big time. Totally lacks punch and clarity. Sounds like my amp is covered with blankets (all good with my other basses). Tried different strings, different pickup heights and different settings with my amp and pedals. If the music you play requires clear, aggressive tone and punch be prepared to replace the pickups and preamp. With better electronics i'd give it five stars.
