Back in the sixties, I learned guitar on a $25 flattop that made my fingers bleed. I wouldn't stop so my mother, feeling sorry for me I guess, figured I was serious about this guitar thing and bought me an electric guitar. It was a '65 Mustang, blue (wish I still had that guitar) Anyway I got good fast and was asked to teach. I had a student with flaming red hair, showed up for his first lesson with a Danelectro and a Silvertone amp. I felt sorry for him having to settle for such cheap equipment. Boy was I stupid. He quickly outpaced me, dropped his lessons, and later developed into a fine guitarist, much better than I ever was. I received my red Stock '59 Danelectro today. What a magnificent instrument. Perfect intonation, setup was correct when it arrived. All I had to do was stretch the strings and tune it up. Incredible. My songs came alive with this instrument. Inspiring. Now I know how right my red-haired guitar savant was. A Danelectro was no impediment to his playing. It was a godsend.
