tasteful ring
This is a great snare, it's my new favorite. Fit and finish are excellent. I swapped the Ambassador resonant head for an Emperor Hazy, which is a little thicker, and swapped the Pearl snare wires for some DW Truetones I had. Nothing wrong with the Pearl wires, I just wanted to try the DW's. My main snare for years has been a 10-lug 14 x 5 inch Pearl with the floating maple shell. I also have an older 8-lug 14 x 5 1/2 inch Pearl Sensitone steel. These all have a similar setup and tuning, with Ambassador batter and Emperor resonant heads, allowing for a fair comparison
The Sensitone steel is a well-known sound. With the heads and tuning I have, mine does a flangy sounding pitch bend as it tails off. The maple floater is more neutral and still fairly sensitive, with a moderate well-behaved ring. The Sensitone brass falls somewhere between these. I love the way it rings off, it has some of the metallic tone of the steel, but darker and more musical.
